    Lobster Roll

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Looking for a place to enjoy lobster on a patio? Well, then look no further than Chauncey's.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The plethora of colorful picnic tables offers a place to enjoy your meal. Some are shaded and some are in the sun.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The calm water the pier rests on makes for a relaxing and peaceful dining experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You can pick out a lobster to take home or purchase a meal to enjoy here. You can also bring your own booze to enjoy with your meal. The lobster rolls come on a hamburger bun. Sides are also a must. The beans are really good. But the onion rings were my favorite. I think they were some of the best onion rings I've had. You might want to get here early because the parking is very limited near the lobster pier. If you don't mind walking, there is additional street parking nearby.

Amazing experience! Loved the server Hailey, she was so charming and sweet. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was so beautiful and fun.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was also equally amazing.

Maine Lobster, heck yeah! There is no shortage of lobster houses in Maine. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What sets Chauncey Creek apart from the others is the beautiful dock on Chauncey Creek (actually an inlet).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And...their BYOB policy means you can bring a nice bottle of Chardonnay to pair with your lobster (which was exactly what we did). The menu is standard lobster house - whole lobster, lobster rolls, clam chowder, etc. I ordered at the counter and paid. The clerk was friendly, helpful and efficient. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We had a picnic table by the water. The place wasn't crowded for late lunch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Some guest brought table cloths and flowers for their tables. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Classic rock played over speakers.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Clam Chowder came out quickly as I sipped my wine. The chowder was thick with lots of large chunks of clam. The soup was absolutely delicious. I had a Lobster Roll, which was served on a soft hamburger-style bun. The lobster was tender, fresh and perfectly cooked. The sandwich was served with chips that were too salty for me. My cousin had a tuna roll, which was packed with creamy tuna. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As we sat on the dock, a fisherman delivered fresh bass to the restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Tanks of live lobster are in a small building so you can select a lobster to go. The parking is really limited. But you can drive up on your boat if you want. There are some hefty stairs to climb.

Chauncey Creek is a must-try for anyone in the Kittery area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant gives top tier New England vibes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself is perched on buoys on a slow river (don't worry, you can't feel it rocking once you're on the pier) and you can actually drive your boat up to the restaurant and dock it![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu is about 90% seafood. We ordered the muscles, fried shrimp, oysters, and shrimp cocktail. Everything was very fresh and arrived very quickly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was so fun to relax on the pier and eat our seafood as boats cruised by.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Location is beautiful, absolutely beautiful. Secluded and calm, relatively quiet crowd enjoying food at the large amount of picnic tables along the river.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] BYOB is a cute option that I haven't seen for a while and speaks to the easy going attitude of everyone dining as well as those working there. They sure were friendly folk all around. The food is on the pricey side for what you can get anywhere in Maine. Live lobster, for example, was at least twice the price of almost anywhere else in the immediate area. However, there is one immediately noticeable difference with their lobsters; they were lively and aggressive in their holding tanks - unlike most of the "dormant" live lobsters I've seen at any of the other markets. I didn't order much as this was just a short pitstop. Oysters were not anything to write about. Lobster roll came in a hamburger bun with a side of crisps. While the portions were small, I really enjoyed what I received. Unlike some of the other reviews here, the lobster was fresh, cooked just right, and balanced in flavor. [[HIGHLIGHT]]While I don't recommend visiting just for the food alone, the ambiance alone is enough for me to patronize this establishment whenever I'm in the area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This was our second visit to Chauncey Creek and we had a much better experience than our first visit, which is why I waited to write a review. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As others have said, the location is very cool and scenic.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Super casual, picnic tables outside, place your order and the food is then brought to your table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]BYOB, and utensils, etc[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]... Some people go all out with table cloths, flowers, etc.... On our first visit we had lobster rolls, and they were pretty weak as compared to any other we've had. Cold, not the most generous portion and served on a plain cold hamburger bun. We were unimpressed, and have not been back till now. Some of our friends really enjoy this spot and suggest we give it another shot with them. We had a great time, and ordered some different items. The crab roll was loaded with fresh, clean tasting crab and was very good. Our friends ordered boiled lobsters which are hard to mess up. Shrimp cocktail to start was nice. I tried the fried coconut shrimp which were good, not great. No orange marmalade on the side, but hey this is Maine, not Florida. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I think it is an enjoyable venue, you can bring whatever food they don't sell, and it is a real plus to be able to bring your own beverages.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Be careful parking, spaces are tight, the road is busy and it can be a bit tricky.

What's left of my lobster "roll".... Are the lobster, left the day old hamburger "bun" for the birds!
    Shari R.

If you are hoping for a traditional lobster roll on a buttery toasted roll you will not get it here. You will get your lobster salad on a day old hamburger bun. So bummed. Scenery and service were great..... the lobster salad was bland. Boo!

Great location, friendly and attentive staff, dog friendly, fresh lobster! BYOB and chill out, there's no rush in this spot and you'll want to hang here as long as you can. Smallest lobsters are so fresh and packed full of juicy meat that two people can share. And they have covered seating if you want to stay out of the Sun but still enjoy waterfront dining. An absolute gem.

Absolutely amazing experience. Husband and I had 2 pound lobsters. We also had steamers and french fries. Everything tasted amazing. service was phenomenal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Weather was perfect.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Everything about our lunch with spot on. Can't wait to come back again.

It even says on the bottom of the menu "no substitutes. Our chefs make the menu for a specific purpose." Or something like that. But if that's the case, then I'd like to think the food would be good! Maybe our chef was out or something because it was bland and cooked improperly. First of all, it took forty five minutes just to get appetizers. And then our waitress took another 30 to take our food order. And then it took another hour for our food. We were there for three hours. Which is fine, but we were starving!!! The drinks were delicious but one was a bottle of wine, so that seems like the bare minimum. Beside service being slow (our waitress nice but very busy), let's get into the food which was the most disappointing thing... the flatbread was dry. The Brussel sprouts were good but the lardons were hard as a rock (clearly they cook things too long here). The salmon was good but portions seemed small. The soup was fine. The steak was supposed to come medium rare, but as you can see, it was closer to medium well (for $48 that is upsetting and embarrassing they couldn't cook a steak properly). My aunt got the chicken dish and she said it was the blandest thing she's ever had. But the biggest issue was the burger... It was my dad's birthday. So it was extremely frustrating when the burger, the thing he ordered, came out black. And there is a picture of it if you want to take a look. BLACK. Why bring it out? That is so bad on the restaurant! Our waitress immediately came over and said "we are making a new bun right now." So why bring it out? And the fries were cold. Same with my mom's haddock (everything was cold). He also asked for the burger to be medium rare and it was quite literally gray. I think when you go to a nice restaurant, you expect good food. And it was disrespectful to my father on his birthday. Thank goodness they took it off our bill (for that we are grateful), but clearly the kitchen needs some assistance because it ruins the experience when everyone is waiting to eat because one dish is done wrong. And clearly done wrong. It's expensive to go out nowadays. I'm not spending money on food that is mediocre at best. This was frustrating. Thank goodness for the nice view otherwise I feel like this restaurant wouldn't exist. sadly we won't be coming back and waiting weeks for this dinner was not worth it. Don't waste your money here. Or go for cocktails. That was at least good.

And they have the displays to match. On this partly cloudy afternoon, I was in search of lobster tails. Upon requesting them, I discovered two things.. 1.) Unfortunately, the tails offered are not very big. Near as I can figure, they come in packs of 3 of what appear to be around 5 ounces each. 2.) Lobster really IS more affordable if you buy it in Maine. For context, a standard two pack of lobster tails at 5 ounces each (or sometimes 4oz) costs me around $25 in NH at the time of writing this review. The 3 pack of the same size tails costs the same price here at Taylor. So, naturally I bought two of those and ultimately nabbed a little under 2 pounds of lobstah for a mere $50. Sufficed to say - we will most certainly return at a future date. I have my eyes set on the fresh lobster meat next. As mentioned, everything in the glass display looked delicious. The place is easy enough to find. Just be aware their entrance is actually not in the front of the building, but on the right hand side. It's a little confusing at first, especially considering the tiny street view sign doesn't help much. If you drive into the "boat drop off" section, you're on the wrong side. Other items I wouldn't mind trying next visit are their lobster bisque and clam chowder. If you're coming across the border as I do, one pro tip I'd offer is to bring a cooler to keep your produce in for the day as you travel back. We transported the lobstah back in my car on an 85 degree day and the gel ice packs kept everything cold enough not to oxidize. Definitely check this place out for all your fresh seafood needs. The locals have spoken and I agree; Taylor Lobster Company is worth 5 fresh, buttery lobstah tails charred on the grill out of 5.

This quaint gastropub doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside, this seems like a place where locals are regulars and tourists are happy to get a table at this "no reservations" joint. It's dark inside (no photos) and a little cramped. The bartenders are serving double duty mixing and pouring drinks while also playing DJ and spinning vinyl records. And it felt like everyone inside was exactly where they wanted to be at the moment...enjoying each other's company and sharing drinks and food. The menu is about the size you would expect from a small kitchen - a fair number of appetizer dishes meant for sharing, and a handful of entrees, ranging from casual to a bit more refined. The grilled cheese and tomato soup ($19) was made with a hearty artisan bread that hit the spot on a chilly evening. Similarly, the coq au vin ($26) was classic comfort food, with perfectly cooked smashed fingerling potatoes surrounded by a rich, decadent reduction sauce smothering meaty mushrooms and soft pearl onions. Note, the coq au vin did take a long time to prepare, so not the dish to order if you're in a hurry. A couple of not-too-sweet lemon ricotta donuts (with chocolate sauce) was a great way to end the meal.

Well, I'm happy that they were because dinner here was SOOOO good! The bartender helped us choose a bottle of champagne to start. We shared everything. One of each of the deviled eggs each. The maple cranberry was interesting. The sour cream chive one was to die for! The ricotta gnocchi was elegant and fluffy. The sauce made it over the top. The ribs were good, but I'm a Midwest girl. They just don't compare to back home. The clam linguine was seasoned perfectly. It was quite filling. We ended with the Apple Olive Oil cake with maple ice cream. The cake itself was quite dense and dry. The ice cream helped. I would not order this dessert again. Service was quite SLOWWWW, and for no reason as they weren't very busy while we were there. There were long gaps between courses and then once we were finished we kind of just sat there for a while. The food was worth it but something is not running efficiently and could be improved. Still giving 5 starts because it was so good and everyone was welcoming.
