One was the turkey dinner which came with mashed potato's and coleslaw. Both the turkey and stuffing was extremely dry with the dark turkey being crunchy. My haddock nugget basket with sweet potato fries were cooked to perfection. The nuggets were light and moist and the sweet potato fries were perfectly crisp too. We had an appetizer of zucchini sticks, which were extremely good but the "sticks" could have been sliced a little thinner. Very disappointing experience. After a day at the beach, I was so looking forward to some steamers. Mike's apparently has a fish market next door and reviews seemed mainly favorable, so we gave it a try. My husband ordered potato skins, that he said were fine, but nothing to brag about. I ordered New England clam chowder to go along with my steamers. The chowder wasn't bad but should have been hotter. The major issue was the steamers. I don't think they were even rinsed before they were prepared. We are not talking sand. They were loaded with mud. When I mentioned it to the waiter he said "oh, they must have forgot to wash them today" and that if I had let him know sooner he could have brought me another cup of broth to rinse them in. We went around 6pm on a Tuesday- it was very busy but only waited 10 minutes for a party of seven! Our server was very friendly and the food and drinks came out exceptionally fast which was great because we had little kids in our party! The Twin Lobster Dinner which I ordered seemed like a deal for the price but some of the other items were more expensive than they probably should have been. Been coming to Wells-Ogunquit area for a few years and keep trying new places to eat and always saw Mikes Clam Shack parking lot full of cars so decided to try it. Wife and I will do one fried clam dinner a year and so we both went for the clam/scallops dish. Both were the best we have had in a long time. Not overfried, clean batter, and very fresh tasting. The clams tasted like steamers freshly battered, and the scallops had no chemichal flavors, slightly opaque in the center. Onion rings were also good in place of fries at no extra cost. We love this place! It gets very busy in the summertime so as locals we tend to visit just in spring, fall, winter. They do close for 6 weeks starting in February. The medium onion rings is easily enough for 4 people. The chicken tenders are some of the best I've ever had- definitely made in-house and not frozen. Baked haddock and scallops were delicious and cooked perfect. Not pictured but I've had before- fantastic potato skins and fried shrimp. I'm not huge on shrimp but I LOVE their shrimp. Honestly, a let down. A huge let down. Now, let me start by saying my server, Moriah (according to the receipt), was nothing short of ideal. Extremely polite, the perfect blend of friendly and accommodating, and an invaluable asset to a southerner like myself trying to navigate the menu. However, when I arrived I was told the wait time was expected to be 5-10 minutes. This surprised me because the parking lot was so full I had to park a half block away. Whatever, 5-10 minutes gave me a chance to browse the gift shop. I took my time and after deciding upon a black "Mike's" shirt I sat down expecting my buzzer to go off at any time. It didn't. Thirty minutes after sat down and roughly 45 minutes after I arrived I was finally seated...in an almost empty dining area. All this time waiting and for what??? At this point in the night I'm starving and would've already had time to drive somewhere else and finish a meal before returning to my hotel. But, I was hyped up! This place was the talk of the town (as far as Google goes) and I was already invested. After careful deliberation over a fresh, steaming, hot cup of coffee, I decided (with the help of Moriah) on the Broiled Seafood Sampler and a cup of Seafood Chowder. The sampler consisted of haddock, two stuffed shrimp, and scallops all broiled, supposedly, to perfection. For the sides I chose the daily vegetable which turned out to be squash and zucchini and an order of the loaded mashed potatoes. But, before I feasted on the Maine course, I needed an appetizer to quiet my rumbling stomach. For that I chose the Seafood Stuffed Mushrooms. Order complete. The stuffed mushrooms arrived very quickly and were honestly one of the most delectable looking appetizers I'd ever laid eyes on. Stuffed tall and full, crispy and baked to golden perfection. Let me tell ya, they tasted as good as they looked. If I had know how my main entree was going to turn out I'd have just ordered a fed servings of these instead. They were exceptionally tasty and for once in my life I waited until my food was good and chewed up before swallowing, savoring every bite. Next up, the seafood chowda. The menu advertised a blend of lobstah, fish, and shrimp and it didn't lie. Immediately I was turned off. You could see the grease bubbles floating all over the top and in the saucer beneath the bowl. It appeared to be almost as thin and transparent as the Atlantic Ocean from which it's ingredients were caught. Still, I rowed on. It tasted about the way it looked; sure you could taste the fish and even the shrimp, but other than that it was a bland bowl of disappointment that even salt, pepper, and oyster crackers couldn't save. Finally, after a glass of water to wash away the taste of sadness left behind by the chowda, my entree arrived. Glistening with a slight crust around the edges, the presentation was very misleading in regard to what the actual food tasted like. Broiled haddock, scallops, and two stuffed shrimp. Should be a winning combo, right? Not in this case. With the exception of the stuffed shrimp (which were on par with the aforementioned stuffed mushrooms), the food was bland and unseasoned apart from the watery butter bath in which it sat. I tried to muscle through it, but I just couldn't. I rarely leave a plate unfinished and always use a take out box if I do, not in this case. Besides the fact that no one likes reheated seafood, this wasn't worth saving. Worth mentioning though, the loaded mashed potatoes were as good as any I'd get in the South. Pure mashed perfection with gooey cheese and fresh bacon crumbles. Paired with the stuffed mushrooms, the potatoes could have been a meal all on their own. Needless to say I asked for my ticket, paid my bill, and left quite disappointed. As I looked out upon the overly filled parking lot I could only think of a few things about my latest dining experience: why did I wait so long to be seated an empty dining area, how does this place have such rave reviews, and should I go back to order more of the stuffed mushrooms? Questions I may never know the answers to. So, if you do end up stopping in after reading this review, skip anything broiled and ask for Moriah. read more

When I get into Maine, it's nothing but fish. Stopped here for takeout and got some clam chowder and clam and scallop basket. Seafood quality was good but the cook, not so much. The chowder was full of clams but not of flavor. Mostly potato but not much else that I could discern. The dining rooms were spacious. Out waitress was really nice and had a great sense of humor. The food was outstanding. The combination seafood platter was big enough to serve two. Love this place! Don't be intimidated when you see the amount of cars parked outside - I have never had to wait in line, but I typically sit in the bar, which is full of tables. I started with a blueberry mule - I believe that was made with local Maine liquor - very tasty! For our meals, we all ordered the haddock sandwich. I got mine broiled, while my friends got theirs fried. I have noticed that at most seafood places, for some reason, broiled/baked is typically more expensive, so it was nice to have broiled as an option for the sandwich for the same price as fried. The broiled piece of fish did look a bit smaller than the fried piece, but still a generous portion nonetheless. Very high quality piece of fish - the price was $12, plus an additional $2 for a side. For my side, I got the mashed potatoes, which were good, but nothing special. My friend got the fries, which tasted very similar to Mcdonalds fries to me (not saying that's a bad thing!) Service was very good - our waitress made sure out drinks were full, despite the volume of people inside. TVs in the bar are HUGE and are great for watching a sports game. There's even a cute little gift shop on the way out. Only complaint is that it is a little pricey compared to local restaurants. My wife and I live local and eat here on special occasions. The food is usually delicious, however we went there on fathers day and I ordered the haddock and scallops off the baked dinners she got the baked stuffed haddock. The food was barely edible, it was all burnt, the scallops were so overcooked they were like eating rubber. It was no good at all. Which whatever mistakes happen no big deal I wanted an apology or atleast have them acknowledge their error, so my wife reached out and emailed their customer service a week ago and we have got no response to this day, which is why I am writing this review. Its too bad becouse they do usually do a good job but if they can't even acknowledge their customers I am all set with them. I enjoy Mike's, but I am disappointed by how much they shrunk their portions without any notice. I understand that surging food inflation is wreaking havoc on a lot of restaurants, but the lack of communication or notice regarding such a huge downsize is unacceptable. I believe that restaurants should be honest to their customers regarding these changes or just raise their prices accordingly without changing a thing to their portions. The seafood platter that I ordered had substantially less haddock and scallops than ever before. The seafood platters that I ordered just months earlier were almost double the size of this. First off, we have been going to Mike's for happily for years with our family. Tonight we had our first poor experience. First, we had a waitress that was slow to come to the table (4:30 pm...not a big crowd). Then when I simply wanted a side piece of baked haddock and a side salad, that could simply not be done. I had to order all these sides that were wasted and was charged for an additional salad. I ended up with a much larger bill than I wanted and felt pretty mad and unappreciated.
