Very good lobster rolls. They are a little on the expensive side at $32 each, but they do come with fries! This is not made very explicit on their menu, so I ordered a large side of sweet potato fries for the table. We also got a basket of clams which too came with fries. The bread on the lobster rolls was soft and buttery. Too order up front and then grab a table. The dining space is a nice size. We were in the area and thankfully it wasn't too packed with tourists. There was plenty of parking to the side of the building and behind. We arrived right as they were opening, around 11am and we were already 5th in line. By the time they actually opened, there were 10 people behind us. There seemed to be a combination of locals and tourists. The only time the line stalled was when there was a language barrier with a customer, luckily they had someone there with a picture menu that could help people navigate through the menu. We ordered a fishwich, and pick two combo plate and an clam strip app. There was a good portions with each item were ordered and we definitely had leftovers to bring home. The food tasted so fresh and was hot. The scallops that were part of the pick two - juicy and amazing! LOVED THEM! I wished they had better tarter sauce to accompany them. The dining area was very clean. The staff, was very young, however they were very attentive and friendly when the elderly customers would talk to them. We don't live close to this location, however, if we were ever back in the area and not just driving through, I would definitely come here again for lunch. read more

If you want the best fried clams around then this is the place to come to. They've been serving up clams in New England area since 1956. There's a decent sized parking lot next to them which does get busy and yes there's usually a line but it goes by fast and luckily for us today on a Saturday afternoon there was no line. Also, they have indoor and outdoor seating and the ambiance out side is always relaxing since most tables have an umbrella to block the sun. I always like to eat outside when the weather is great and today it as perfect.. Okay let's talk about the food... So I always get the clams 2 ways which is Bobs-lightly dredged in their house blend flour and fried and the other way is Lillian's style which is egg & milked washed then dredged in their house blend and fried. To me it's the best of both world and I don't have a favorite and that's why I get both lol. The clams are always moist with tons of flavor and the seasoning is always on point. This is a must if you're going to visit them, trust me on that. We order the kids chicken tenders for my daughter and they were really good. Very tender and not over cooked and still juicy. My daughter couldn't finish them so of course I'm going to be an amazing Dad and help her finish her food lol. Let's start off with the portions - huge! We definitely over ordered, but the prices weren't bad. There was a mix up with our order - I asked if I could substitute onions rings for fries and the cashier said the only thing I could substitute is for sweet potato fries so I said that was fine. I didn't look at the receipt so didn't realize he added on the onion rings as a separate side, which we definitely did not need. We ended up throwing out most of them as well as the fries that came with the fried clams just because it was too much. No big deal, just a miscommunication I should've checked on. Highlight of the meal was the clam chowder - soo flavorful and probably one of the best chowders I've ever eaten. Hot lobster roll was solid. Fried clam strips were tasty, but feel like they could've used some salt or seasoning. The tartar sauce was delicious and helped to make them more tasty. Talk about a legendary comfort food spot in Maine that's 60 years and counting. The crowd alone that's patronizing this spot at 3 pm on a Sunday afternoon is pretty impressive - every indoor and outdoor seating filled, lines waiting for their to-go orders, and more lining up just to place their orders - easily any restaurant owners dream scenario. And it's obvious why, best bang for the buck in this area - at least everyone I've encountered swears so. Waited about 30 minutes after ordering before finally getting a chance to dig in and find out for myself. Lobster roll was amazing. Bun toasted well, lobster flavorful and cooked just right. Fries were nice and crispy. Fishwich was lovely - haddock crispy but moist and flavorful in the middle (and definitely not PF). Clam chowder was the only total fail that is an immediate unforgivable ding. I've never had a chowder this loose/watery unless it's an improper reheat, which doesn't really make sense with this level of turnover. Oh well, just stick to their true mainstays that all the other tables were dining on: lobster rolls and legendary fried seafood. read more

I love seafood, fried clams and been to many restaurants that serve this kind of food but Bob's Clam Hut seems to be the best. Fried Clams are good here. Prices are a bit high but then so is seafood anywhere else. I've eaten at other places where the clams made me sick but not here. So this is a regular for me. Restaurant is clean. Service is good. Used to love coming here but unfortunately am very disappointed with our last visit. We came around 4:45pm to barely a line. Still waited an hour for food. We've come at much busier times and haven't had to wait an hour. Got my usual; fish and scallops. Fish was ok. Scallops were gritty- every single one. Couldn't even finish them. Very disappointing since the scallops are the expensive part of the meal. Pickles were also somehow gritty. Someone is not washing things properly. Best part was the tartar sauce and the fries. Both were great. My friend was also disappointed with her lobster roll and coleslaw. The roll was soaking wet with butter but no butter on the lobster and there were no big pieces of lobster meat. Coleslaw was tasteless. We have enjoyed our many visits here but will unfortunately be looking elsewhere for seafood on our next trip on route 1. A good place to stop if you are passing by on 95 or in Kittery for shopping. It's a classic clam hut whose best days are likely behind them. Selection is good. Seafood is good but does not have a lot of flavor. I keep wandering around the menu looking for a favorite and have concluded the food is good but I will never be absolutely craving Bobs Clam Hut food. We go several times a year and I get either the lobster roll, scallops or fish sandwich with onion rings or French fries. Coleslaw is excellent. This is a good place to go to if you are visiting during the off season or eating on the early side during the busy season as it gets busy and the parking lot is tight. I have driven past this spot for years and there's always a line -- which was part of what turned me off from going initially-- but always made me want to try it because it MUST be good. I usually hit Roberts Maine Grill because it never disappoints, but I wasn't into a sit down dining experience and was in the kittery area before heading back home. Waited close to thirty minutes for my to-go order (single lobster roll, nothing else on order). The presentation was plentiful and seemed fair for the high cost of the meal (cheaper in Scarborough/other parts of Maine for same meal). Was so, so disappointed that after such a long wait the lobster roll had absolutely no flavor. None. All you could taste was the buttered bun. I even ate a few hunks of lobster by its self and ZERO flavor. The only other time this has happened was when served previously frozen lobster. Highly recommended by friends so we had to stop by. First time in Maine! We visited on a Saturday evening and ordered the Bob and Lilian platter with belly clams and haddock. And a bowl of chowder. Also got a fountain drink. Here's the summary: 1) The food was under-seasoned, like they just floured and fried it. Didn't taste like it was prepared any other way. It didn't taste stale or old. But it wasn't bursting with any flavor either. The batter was very thin, which made it not very crispy. 2) The chowder flavor was quite good. But it was also on the thin side. The potatoes and chopped clams were good. 3) The French fries were on point. Nicely crispy and seasoned. 4) No ice for beverages except for a sketchy bucket to scoop your own ice out of. My wife and I finally had a chance to try the legendary Bob's Clam Hut on this past Monday. We are on our way to from Gettysburg, PA to Friendship, ME, were coming past Kittery right around 11:45 AM and thought we would slip off the interstate and try to eat lunch at Bob's. In past years as we have tried to stop and dine here the lines waiting for food service have been so long they discouraged us from stopping. Behold there were no lines at 11:55 AM so we stopped, ordered and shared a fried clam basket, and an order of onion rings. The fried clam basket was awesome... I think it's possibly the best fried clam meal I've ever had. The clams were delicious, nicely seasoned and tender. Also, the portion was super generous, and we could barely finish all of the clams in the basket between the two of us. The onion rings were also beautiful looking, but they were more or less tasteless because the batter that they used on them had virtually no seasoning or spices that I could tell. Service was fast and we enjoyed sitting at the picnic tables where we could also be accompanied by our Jack Russell constant traveling companion. If I had to do over, I would stop again in New York minute, but I would not order the onion rings the next time around. read more

The lobster roll should not be overlooked too. it may look small but that bun is loaded with fresh lobster meat! and despite the large crowds, the place is incredibly clean! and plus service is quick. Staff we encountered were nice and pleasant too which is always a plus for me. They offer two coatings - traditional and "Lilian" if I recall correctly. We are there two days ago. We ordered the traditional. They were served fresh and hot and had a natural clam sweetness- not from added sugar. I had been here last about 20 years ago and recalled them on this trip to Maine. Tasty seafood and friendly staff! This place is pretty good. I ordered the lobster roll and clam strips. The clam strips were excellent--crispy and full, not overloaded with breading. The lobster roll was also really good; I got it with hot butter, but my only complaint is that they may have added a bit too much butter. i have been going to Bob's for decades when it was owned by Michael L n initially Bob..,, i went yesterday for the first time this summer. i ordered fried oysters and my husband had scallops. it was close to in edible. the oysters were huge. i've been eating fried oysters for years and they should be small n sweet. these were the size of golf balls. my husband's scallops were so oily the coating fell off of most of them. they were greasy and slightly undercooked. i won't even talk about the price. i should've complained but i just didn't want to deal with it... enjoying my holiday!!! i will never go to Bobs again and will make it know on social media. so sad as i took all my visitors to Bobs n always enjoyed it read more

Skip the frozen fries and coleslaw. The oyster po' boy was full of oysters and a great value but still short on salt. To those of you used to mid-Atlantic crab cakes: Avoid the crab cakes at all costs!!!! You will be disappointed. No lumps.
