We stopped at the Clam Hut on our way home from Sabego Lake with the family. It was the perfect seafood spot for us. We were immediately welcomed by the staff and asked if we would like a bowl of water for our golden retriever. This was great for us and helpful where we were in the car driving for about an hour. We were helped quickly even with the busy dinner time frame. We ordered clams, clam strips, chowder (thin style), hot dog with fries. It was all delicious. We also were asked by another team member if we needed anything and if the food was good while we were eating. It was great to have such attentive service even out on the picnic tables. We all enjoyed and I was so happy they were dog friendly for us. We will be back to this location for sure. read more

Location was very convenient when shopping at the Kittery premium outlet. It took around 10 minutes for the food to be ready after ordering. I got the calamari basket with a side of clam cake. I'd say the portion was generous, The batter was on the thin side compared to other seafood places. I would have prefer it to be a bit thicker and more flavorful. The only constant is change. Been stopping at Bob's Clam Hut en route up and down the coast of Maine for decades. New ownership is apparent and the changes do not resonate with us. Whole belly clams are relatively small, with more bits & pieces than in the past. Also, they taste bland for some reason. Unable to substitute onion rings for an up charge, unlike in years past. We miss the home brewed iced tea a whole lot. Used to love the goat cheese blackberry Roccoco ice cream, but that has been replaced by a bar. We get that a beer would go great with most food offerings, but getting on & off the highway for a quick and savory meal was always what we loved about this place. When driving, etoh is not what we want, but that is personal preference. We decided not to go for a bit after our first taste of the changes awhile back and landed back recently to try again. Bottom line is that we will wait until we get further north for our clam & lobster roll fix in future and we will ensure that we are well sated with such before we migrate south. The price has always been fairly high at Bob's, but it used to be great to have a satisfying meal during a long distance drive. The food has certainly changed for the worse. Also, the staff used to be quite upbeat and helpful. The other day we received rather sullen service. Not faulting the staff. We sense a trickle down effect, alas. We will not be back. read more

Been going to Bob's since 1987. Always for the great clam strips. We had not visited for a long time due to Covid. I was aware that the place had been sold. There were changes due to Covid, like the ketchup pump and fresh lemonade and iced tea. But of course, one goes there for the clams! I was very disappointed. They looked about right but tasted quite bland. Something was surely missing in the coating recipe. My desire to go to Bob's again has been quashed for the first time in 34 years. So sad. We ordered the lobster roll, crab cakes and calamari. All were excellent. Crab cakes were full of meat and sweet fresh tasting. The lobster roll was simple perfection. We have been going to Bobs for years. My wife doe not eat fish and she ordered a grilled cheese while I ordered the fish for $18.95. While waiting I noticed I was charged 21.95, when I pointed it out to a person working the tables they looked at my slip and said I ordered the dinner and it had more fish on it. So I accepted it. My wife was eating her grilled cheese and asked me to taste a bite of it. It smelled and tasted like it was grilled on a dirty greasy grill and was so bitter I had to spit it out. We called a worker over and he apologized and said he was not allowed to taste the untouched other half. He offered a new sandwich but my wife said she lost her appetite now. This has always been a favorite restaurant for my family year round. The past few times service has been lacking. Wait times for a small 3 person meal was almost an hour on a quiet week night when weather was cold and rainy. Several other customers were frustrated thinking there order had been forgotten as it was extremely out of order with some people getting orders very fast and others waiting an hour. Hopefully with the new ownership they will get this corrected and make it an enjoyable experience again. Will not be going back any time too soon. read more

Well my boyfriend and I were up in kittery last month for a weekend trip and he has been harassing me ever since to write this review. Lol He hated the food sooo much. He felt it was very greasy and lacked flavor. I was hungry after all the shopping at the outlets so my opinion may be skewed. I thought the food was okay. Not the best seafood i ever tasted but it was good. We ordered a basket that had fried shrimp and scallops. It was a generous portion for 2 people. Especially since my boyfriend is large in stature as a football player he wanted to make sure it was enough when we ordered. It came with fries, dinner rolls and coleslaw. I did feel that it lacked flavor and I would have preferred to have jumbo shrimp over the jumbo scallops. (they give you the lil baby shrimps) However, we did enjoy the decor of the restaurant and the employees were very friendly. There is indoor and outdoor seating which I liked. We definitely preferred 3 buoys seafood shanty grill which is on the same road about a mile away! read more

We got here on an early Saturday afternoon. It was busy but we were able to place our orders quickly and it didn't take us long to get our food. The woman at the counter seemed to be tired of constantly being asked the differences between the clam batter--Bob vs. Lillians. Maybe it'd help to have that on the menu. Anyway, the food was decent. Ordered the Lillian whole clams. More food than I expected! Included fries and dipping sauces were good. Market rate was $30 that day. Friendly service and clean business. Wait was about 30m but they told everyone in line in advance so no surprises. Only giving 3 as it is a was expensive for a clam shack next to the highway. We ate at Roberts grill the next night and paid about the same for a seafood dinner and was higher quality food and atmosphere. Recommend and will go again. read more

If this was the only lobster shack I went to, I'd give it 5 stars, but I am betting that I'll find better as I travel up the coast to Bar Harbor. The lobster roll was good; I thought the lobster tasted fresh but didn't have a strong lobster taste. It was bland and I don't know why. Shrimp cocktail had unpeeled shrimp which I wasn't expecting. First time to Bob's Clam Hut and I was very impressed. We had the clams 2 ways and I have to say the Lillian was slightly better in crunch. The clams were as fresh as could be and very tasty, with that briny goodness you only get from good clams. Being from Hawaii I don't get to have good Down East seafood often, but Bob's is legit. I have been coming here next to to the shopping outlets for years long before they remodeled and expanded. Original shack was very small, now a lot of seating both indoors and out. Through the years have tried many menu items but recently only fried clams, fried scallops and the fish. The fried clams 98% of the time are perfect but on a rare occasion they can be soft not how I like them. This is a minor complaint that becomes more of an issue do to the cost of the clams which is high priced even strips priced high, an aside I can't see why this is at all. I find the scallops among the best along the coast. The lobster roll I have not had in years. The staff is friendly and the order takers at the windows are helpful. Beer makes for a good drink with this food. Both the rolls and the baskets are the way to go. Ice cream located next door. One of the most dependable shacks or huts on the Maine coast. What is a trip to Kittery without a stop at Bobs? Bobs fryers keep pumping out delicious seafood. Clam strips and chowders were our targets while we drove through to Kennebunkport. The portions could have been a bit bigger but for the price I don't fault them. My only real complaint was that the clam chowder wasn't piping hot. "That's a rookie move in the chowder game!" Worse was that I saw it being ladled up so it wasn't sitting out and getting cool. Turn up that crock, Bob! They have delicious tart lemonade and an ice cream window that I missed but vow to return to. When I'm returning all my bad purchases, I'll make another right one bad return to Bob's. read more

Always make it a point to stop here while in the area. We came around lunch on Saturday this past weekend. It was relatively busy but not completely packed either. We got the fish and chips plate and a clam dinner plate with drinks. We waited probably about 15 minutes for our number to be called which wasn't bad at all. We found a nice table outside in the back with an umbrella and some shade, we came with our dog so this was perfect. We even got a coupon for a free ice cream! We have eaten there countless times over the years and the food has always been impeccably good. We have not been there the last year and a half because of the pandemic until yesterday when we stopped for a long overdue fix of our favorite Maine seafood. Boy were we shocked and deeply disappointed. First of all the price were astronomically high. 3 lobster rolls, 1 pint of fried whole clams and 2 bowls of clam chowder came to over $162. Worst of all the food was mediocre, not at all like we were accustomed to. The lobster meat was overcooked and dry with an unnatural red color. The fried clams were anemic, greasy and tasteless. Wow, I frequent many clam shacks back home and this place could very well be THE model clam shack. It's what other clam shacks aspire to be like. It's big, it's clean, there's plenty of seating, and it's very organized. OK so technically Bob's isn't a clam shack. It's a clam hut. They're all the same to me. Bob's however is perhaps the cleanest clam shack I've ever visited. I got a lobster roll and it was terrific. I'm a Connecticut traditionalist so I prefer my lobster roll with drawn butter instead of cold mayonnaise (ie, Bob's style). Nonetheless I love lobster meat and I'll take it anyway I can. My meat contained just a small amount of mayonnaise so my lobster roll ended up being quite enjoyable. Overall my stop at Bob's was a great way to break up a long day filled with lots of driving and shopping at the nearby outlets. read more

A must try place if you're in Kittery!! Might as well get some fried food while shopping. We ordered the crab cakes, clam chowder, and the dinner fried whole belly clams (half traditional style and half Lillian style). Crab cakes were moist, but wish there was more crab in them. The clam chowder is more like a soup, but delicious. And I saved the best for last... The clams!! The traditional style is just fried in batter, but the Lillian is first dipped in egg, and then batter and then fried. I personally LOVED the Lillian style for the clams. It's fluffier and way more delicious. Since it was our first time trying Bob's, we decided to try both style fried clams. The dinner comes with French fries, cole slaw, and a roll. What I wish there was more of was then French fries. The cole slaw was a nice break from the fried foods, but nothing special. Overall, food came out fast and there is plenty of seating whether you want to sit inside or outside. The place was surprisingly big for a little shack on the side of the road. One downfall was we think their crab cake were made of immitation crab. Other than that, we love every minutes while we were there. Grabbed lunch here on Sunday and was surprised at how busy it was. I got the lobster roll (on a hot dog bun) and clam chowder combo. The bun was grilled in butter which added an extra crunch of deliciousness. There was a lot of lobster meat on the roll as well.
