I brought my son here hoping it could be our go-to weekend breakfast spot. It's a diner so I was hoping for some solid breakfast food in a friendly atmosphere. Pros: - The hostess was friendly and we were able to be seated quickly at 9:30 on a Sunday - Our waitress was also super-friendly - The food came out pretty quickly - The food was OK. Pancakes, sausage, eggs, etc. Standard stuff. Cons: - Coffee was very bad. Awful. Good coffee is pretty much a requirement for a Sunday morning brunch. - They forgot the blueberries in my son's pancakes * Obnoxious, condescending guy behind the counter *That last one is the reason we won't return. I didn't notice the missing blueberries until we were leaving but I saw that "blueberries" were listed on our check. So I said to the guy at the register, "I want to make sure there's no extra charge for blueberries because there weren't any in the pancakes." And obnoxious checkout guy snaps back, "No, there isn't. Thank you for your honesty". Thank you for your honesty?! Seriously? I wasn't asking him to beg forgiveness, but a little "Sorry for the mixup" would've been nice. "Thank you for your honesty", when said to a customer sounds like code for "Screw you". Then, after paying and adding 20% tip, he didn't even say "Thank you" or "Have a nice day". I wasn't sure if my transaction was even done. Note to the owner: Whoever that guy is at the bar - he's too rude to be working with people and doesn't care if your customers ever return. read more

I had one of the worst sandwiches of my life at Bob's. I ordered a simple turkey and cheese toasted sub which I couldn't finish. The main problem seemed to be an excess of some kind of cheese. Maybe "American"? It was processed cheese and very gloppy. My lunch companion had a similarly disappointing experience with a dull, utterly uninspired cold sub. Had breakfast. Veggie omelette with bacon and my boyfriend had the James with a side of sausage. Omelette was great as were the blueberry walnut pancakes and eggs with green chile. I have scored this place highly for its casual and easy going atmosphere. I liked my blackened salmon salad with diced mango and red pepper dressing. The price was right at just under $8 for the salad (a far cry from the $13 Ahi salad across the street at The Rex). However, this place is not really a salad type restaurant... its more of a burger joint or breakfast place. The quality seemed to be right on for everyone, and it was easy to have a child with us (which is great). However, it smelled like a fryer, which turned me off. Bob's is a great diner for me to eat a delicious lunch! I went there today and had the grilled cheese. The bread was perfectly crispy and the cheese was perfectly gooey. It came with a side of fries. The fries are delicious! They are very thin which makes them crispy and loose. The only thing bad about Bob's is that they close really early. I have walked in and been turned away by them saying they were closed several times which is very disappointing. Overall, I would say that this is a great family diner local in Louisville. I would recommend going here for lunch, but make sure to get a seat before 1! read more

Man, do I love this place!!! Hadn't been in for a while(not since it was still B.O.B.S. Sandwich Shop), and this place is exactly what I wanted, and almost what I remembered...but better! Like a old, warm, comfy hat. Love the remodel! Love that the menu is still, for the most part, as I remembered it. Love that they TAKE CREDIT CARDS NOW!!! Brilliant! Food is as great as I remembered. 2 words - Spicy Philly. I even went back for a second time a few days later, for breakfast, and hit the jack-pot! Breakfast Special: Crunchy French Toast!?! Seriously!? It bordered on reckless it was so good! The casual, friendly service is top notch. It felt like I had been invited over for a meal, not just stopping in to eat somewhere. Seriously some of the best pancakes I've ever had and such friendly staff!!!! My local friend brought me here while visiting and she talked them up really well and they did not disappoint! I recently had breakfast in Bob's on 21 January I ordered a jalapeno bacon mushroom omelette with cream cheese I thought it should've been prepared better my critique is the ingredients were overcooked and the potatoes were cold A suggestion Bob, I would take in cook the ingredients to order versus have a Tinpan of under heated ingredients I would also takeThe cream cheese and make sure that the ingredients were coated with the cheese so that you got an infusion of the flavors there was only one other person in there today and I don't think the food was hot enough for that kind of a traffic flow On the good note the server was very helpful extremely polite offer do replace the potatoes but by that time I was halfway through breakfast and didn't want to wait read more

The food was really good, everyone in my party enjoyed the food. However it was quite busy and thus is was quite slow because they only had one waiter staffed at the time, which is a shame because it could of been a much better experience if it was properly staffed at the time. I would definitely come back though simply because the food tasted so good, just hopefully it either has multiple waiters, or just less busy at the time. read more

I once had a strong liking for bobs diner, but my latest experience was incredibly frustrating and disappointing. Me and my friend, frequent customers of bobs, stopped by the restaurant on a busy Sunday, during the middle of a busy period in which nearly every table was taken. Upon entering, a waitress greeted us and told us that the wait would be 10-15 minutes, so we stood by the front door to wait. Moments later, a party of 4 came inside and the waitress immediately gave them a table, completely disregarding our spot on the wait list. We let that slide and kept waiting, and then a cook across from us YELLED at us to move out of the way because we were in the way of the food. I don't know where we were expected to wait, since there was no seating for waiting parties in the restaurant, so we stood awkwardly in front of a dining table. Then, two waiters got in a heated, yelling argument directly in front of us about where a customers check was, and then one of the yelling waiters looked over at us and told us with a forced smile, "it's gonna be another 15-20 minutes.". At that point, we felt so disrespected and appalled that we left the restaurant. I had always liked bobs because of their tasty food and friendly service, but none of the staff was prepared to take on the busy rush of customers that day, and it really brought out how disorganized and unprofessional the staff was. Being recognizable customers, I had hoped that we would have been treated with some respect, but that was not the case. This restaurant just lost two of its faithful customers. Food is OK, good but not something I would find to say "I've got to come back" The decor is fun and retro and really adds to experience. They have build your own burger so I did that and the burger was tasty enough but I didn't expect just a plain old hamburger bun. Shoe string fries were a surprise and came out piping hot. The onion rings seemed to be from frozen but were tasty. My wife had the special which was the cuban panini. We went in around 5:00 and after we ordered we heard a discussion going on that they had no pork for the panini, the waitress came back and asked if they could substitute philly meat instead and the wife agreed. The sandwich came and it was on a ciabatta roll but was not pressed or grilled? Not sure what their definition of a cuban panini is but it doesn't match mine. The sweet potato fries that came with the order were ok but looked frozen, again nothing special. The service was outstanding she was the only one working and kept all the tables happy. I wish the food was as exciting and retro as the decor. Prices were reasonable enough. read more

I don't like french fries very much, but Bob's is the exception! Supper skinny, nice and crispy and a generous portion. The sandwiches are good, drink selection great. Breakfast is delightful and prices reasonable. This is our inexpensive "go to" place when we can't be bothered to cook our own dinner. The slab of raw sexual american steel used to forge their mouth watering burgers is a must stop for any hungry patron. This diner has a first class taste with small time prices! I have thoroughly explored the menu here and have not found an item spanning from breakfast to lunch that I do not like.
