I was really excited when I saw this spot open up, and the menu sounded pretty appealing and simple which I like, but after two visits, I feel let down. I've tried - bourbon chicken with rice, mac & cheese and "veggies" which is just zucchini spears, the chicken was dark meat and very fatty, there was too much sauce getting all over the rest of the sides and the flavor was kind of bland too, the mac & cheese was kind of dry and plain, and the zucchini was fresh but probably could have been grilled a little more - jerk chicken with rice, macaroni salad, and zucchini spears, again the chicken was a bit fatty but the marinade was pretty tasty, the salad was solid, same deal with the zucchini The portions are pretty good for the prices, so you can save some leftovers for the next day if you wish. I'm all for supporting local businesses, and I'd stop by again if in the area, but it's not going to be a regular as I find the food to be so-so. read more

We just happened to stumble on Ruby Ru's after visiting a farm in the area. This place was absolutely wonderful. The staff were incredibly kind and gave helpful suggestions. The food far exceeded our expectations- we got the bahn mi sandwich (after the staff member told us we could make the bowl into a sandwich because I wanted a sandwich but was eyeing the bahn mi bowl), buffalo wings, curly fries and mac and cheese. We had the place to ourselves which is ideal with a toddler and all of the staff members were playing with him and being so sweet. Also has a fun retro vibe inside and playing dance music which is always fun (and our son loved it too). Highly recommend! We will definitely visit again when we come to Lafayette. read more

I ordered the bourbon chicken with potatoes and coleslaw as my sides. The food took about five minutes to prepare. It was heaping out of the container. The potatoes were perfectly fried and had just the right amount of seasoning. The coleslaw was OK, but could use some alternative flavor. The food and service here is beyond--they run a tight ship! The flavor/serving to price ratio is perfect and it is comfort food at its finest. The green chili philly is my favorite--it's asinine how good it is-- and that is neck and neck with the Nashville hot chicken plate. My kiddo loves the mac and cheese and there is always something new and unique to try. They have zeroed in on what they do best and it shows...(tastes?). Our overall experience was fantastic. Not only was there a huge variety of fresh and fantastic food made to order, but the atmosphere was so inviting. Meeting there (in the middle), I had driven from south of Denver, and out-of-state cousins had come down from Fort Collins. We enjoyed the bourbon chicken, veggie tacos, and several sides. We "hogged" our table for several hours of catching up, but were never encouraged to head out. We ordered the Ruby and the Jed and both sandwiches were filled with generous ingredients. The place was clean but maybe little dark for midday. There is dining inside as well as a couple of tables outside also. Our sandwiches were ready in just a couple of minutes and handed to me with a smile and a thank you. Reviews really hyped up this place and the menu is pretty interesting with all the different options. The food was fine, not my favorite. I came on a Wednesday afternoon and it was decently busy but nothing crazy. Awesome customer service, very friendly and answered all the questions I had. I love chicken strips and fries! So glad these fries weren't soggy and had the perfect amount of seasoning and crisp to it. I also love that they had great ranch and spicy aïoli sauces to dip the fries and chicken in. Small little hole in the wall spot. Just a couple of tables available inside due to size. Easy for a quick bite but nothing over the top impressive. Staff was courteous to your face, although could easily overhear vulgar conversation in the back as it is a very small shop (doesn't offend me much but I can see that being quite off putting to others and less than inviting). Bourbon chicken bowl had good flavor. Side potatoes are sliced in small rounds and some were ok but otherwise they were disappointingly soggy. The Cajun grilled zucchini were fantastic and I wish they would've offered a greater serving of this, and/ or more expansive veggie options. Also snagged the bourbon chicken tacos which were tasty but could be better with just a little less of the spicy aioli (unless you like a heavy mayo/ sauce), and if the tortillas were grilled to give it that extra upscale feel. We were up for trying something we haven't had before so we decided to try Ruby Ru's as it was one of the higher rated places that offered delivery through Yelp. We ordered the medium jerk chicken bowl with Mac salad and a large bourbon chicken bowl with Mac and cheese and veggies. Everything was a 12/10, great taste on everything. The only reason this is getting 4 instead of 5 stars is because I was partway through the jerk chicken veggies when I realized the Mac salad was completely missing from the container. Unfortunately, there's not much they can do when you order delivery through Yelp. We'll order again but we'll pick it up to double check our order before we leave the restaurant. I went here on a whim and have been back several times for the jerk chicken. My wife enjoys the banh mi bowl. The kids love the chicken strips and the amazingly large chicken sandwiches. Curly fries, potato "chips", and the Mac salad. My wife and I enjoy some of the healthier options. All in all a place we'll likely hit up once a month. Beware coming in at lunchtime during the week, this place has quite a large following at the high school down the block. The jerk chicken had a lot of sauce. Juicy chicken but that sauce was too salty. Perhaps the high vinegar content makes it seems more salty? Loved the Mac salad and grilled zucchini. The bahn mi was a bit disappointing. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, the rice al dente but the sauce a bit bland. The daikon n carrots didn't have much pickling, same with the cucumbers. Perhaps if they took some of the vinegar from the jerk sauce and added it to the pickling liquid? Both bowls cost $12 a piece. We plan to come try the sammies next. I have gotten food from Ruby Ru's before and it was one time prior. I had ordered the Banh Mi bowl last time and it was delicious. This time I ordered the street tacos and a side of french fries. The first taco I had was delicious and I love the sweetness of the pineapple inside of it. When I was diving into my second taco and started to chew, all the pieces of chicken were fatty and almost felt like pieces of a tendon. That instantly made me a little nauseous, and I'll be taking the other one home to my family, since I don't like wasting food. The French fries had lots of flavor and were a little salty which I didn't mind because I tend to like them as such. The ranch though, was extremely salty, and maybe I got an off batch of ranch but I was unable to eat the ranch with the fries. Everyone there is very nice and the service is wonderful, but I don't think I'll be returning, unless it's just for the Banh Mi bowl I had the time prior. read more

Although the vibe inside the restaurant was very fast casual to match the name, the food was way better than the name and restaurant interior suggested. This delightful brick and mortar evolution of the original food truck just opened earlier this week in Lafayette. My daughter and I dropped in for a mid-day meal today. We both especially liked the Cajun spiced potatoes. She's a vegan and I'm a vegetarian and for us there were many choices of side dishes as well as a quinoa bowl on the menu. They also said they would be happy to substitute something for the meat in other menu items. I love their attitude. As far as meat dishes go, the owner told us that the Bourbon Chicken is quite popular. Anyway, this place is close to home, with yummy food and a clean, bright environment. So we'll be back!
