Okay everyone rants about Bob's, right? It's an institution. I have tried several of their subs over the years- and honestly all were pretty meh and blasé except for the Italian sub. The Italian sub was fantastic don't get me wrong. I tried a few of their pasta dishes for the first time this week and, mio Dio! First let's start with the fact that I called the order in and the girl who answered clearly had no idea about Italian dishes. I asked for the frutti di mare fra diavolo with fusilli. I kid you not I repeated it four times and then finally she got it and said oh you want the tomato sauce one with seafood! ::facepalm:: yes, please. I should have just cancelled it then. I ordered it and while the portion was great- tell me why when I opened the lid the fusilli was wildly over cooked and clumped together like Mac n cheese?? I have never in my life seen fra diavolo sauce on pasta clump together like Mac n cheese. I tried it- it had no flavor, certainly wasn't spicy and the seafood tasted like it was frozen. Unless you're going there for an Italian sub, save your money. read more

Wow. I was craving a good sandwich for lunch today (thank god I ran out of groceries so I could try this place). I walked down the street to earn the calories--only like a 10 minute walk one way. The o line ordering process is really easy. You can add it to the cart and pay and they're ready and waiting for you when you arrive to pick up the food. After the short walk home I was ready to dig in. My boyfriend got the Italian sub with the works. It was so delicious. The cheese is what stuck out to me. The "hots" also give a great spice and taste. I got the prosciutto caprese sub. It was to die for. The fresh mozzarella really stole the show but the fresh basil is not to be forgotten. It has been 10 years since my son's graduation from Tufts University. Upon returning to campus, we had to stop by Bob's for lunch! He makes great sandwiches and salads. His deli stocks up the kitchens of all the Tufts students. We even ordered catering from him on graduation day! The only problem upIn our return was limited parking, but that doesn't effect the students who walk there. It was fun to return and to reminisce. This place is an absolute gem! I used to visit at least once a week when I lived in Medford, and now I make a point to stop in anytime I'm in the Greater Boston area. The chicken Milanese sandwich is my go-to.. chicken cutlets, prosciutto di Parma, buffalo mozzarella, tomato, basil and EVOO. The small (served on a braided sesame seed roll) is usually enough to last two meals for me, unless I'm particularly hungry. I'll admit I haven't strayed from that sandwich to try any others because it's just that good! I have also enjoyed many of their prepared salads and desserts. The staff is quick and always friendly! I definitely recommend this place if you haven't been, and I will be back anytime I'm in the area. Covid-19: they were monitoring capacity at the door and only allowing a few people in at a time. All employees were wearing masks and gloves. If you had placed an order online or over the phone, they would bring your order out to you. We went in to order at the counter. Solid Italian sandwich joint - it's very popular so I recommend calling ahead to pick up your order. With COVID they're only allowing a handful of people in at once so the lines can get pretty long outside and if the weather isn't great it makes for a less fun experience. In the area looking for a quick takeout spot, similar to a deli. This was the closest comparison; amazing looking sandwiches at a reasonable rate. Through an online order, got the Roast Beef & Cheddar Melt ($8.50). Lots of add on options, so also got pickles, tomatoes, onions, and hot cherry peppers at no extra cost. Food was ready within 20 minutes (go to the back in order to pickup). Definitely get your money's worth here; a huge portion of meat stuffed into a soggy roll (should toast it), and plenty of extras to get a good bite. A big sandwich that didn't need an extra side to make you full. Service is quick despite lots of orders for pickup being placed. Stick with the sandwiches as the pastas were only okay. read more

Have been looking for places to Foodler that have good subs at work & we tried Bobs, because if you are remotely from the Medford, Malden, Somerville, Everett area YOU KNOW OF BOBS!!! So when I saw that they Foodler'd to work we instantly knew we had to order... So we got the Italian (Deluxe of course - Yes Please Prosciutto) and Steak & Cheese... the Prego one wanted Potato Skins.. Came within an hour & was a little put off by the size, either the portions have changed or just being smaller things always seemed bigger then... I ordered a Jumbo Steak just because I wanted a braided roll and was like Ooh I will have more than enough to take home for later... But NO... it was smaller than the Large Italian... (must be the Braided) The italian was dry, It needed SOMETHING... Maybe more oil or more "Something" But the meats were good & fresh, just needed something. My parents and I threw party for my brother and he requested food from Bob's. Never having tried Bob's food, but trusting my brother's judgement, we ordered two large catering trays. We had one large tray of meatballs and one large tray of chicken tortellini alfredo. I must say...WOW. The service picking up the food was excellent. I arrived early and they brought my food out to my car for me. The quality of the food was 10/10. The meatballs were outstanding and the alfredo was unbelievable. UPDATE: Bob's called me after my review to confirm the comments did not come through grub hub. That is unfortunate so fair warning to others ordering food this way on grub hub. I would recommend this place as obviously they have high integrity of their food and as I mentioned, the bread, meat and cheese are obviously high quality. I have no doubts that the food here is great. I ordered delivery today and the bread, meat and cheese are obviously all great quality. I was a little disappointed that the sandwich came dry. I ordered the corned beef and cheese sandwich but in the comments asked for Kraut if possible and Thousand Island. Could be they didn't have these items or could be they missed my comments. Either way. The sandwich was good but dry with no condiments on it. I'll try this place again but will probably call or order in person. read more

I recently stopped by and tried their giant braided Italian sub. Very good and plenty of cold cuts. My only issue was that the sliced cold cuts were actually thick and the person who put the sub together slapped the cheese on in one location, so it was like a chunk of cheese and not spread out. Imagine having a great butcher shop, good take out, and a lot of unique products of Italy origin and that is Bob's. It's not big and can get cramped, but this the charm of this icon of Medford. My only gripe with Bob's is I don't live close enough to go more frequently, my problem not theirs so when we go we go big. Steak tips and sausages from their butcher shop are hands down the best you will find in Eastern Massachusetts. I dare you to find a better steak tip and you will fail. I've never had the pleasure of having an easier to handle steak tip, tender, juicy and that marinade is liquid gold. The Italian sandwiches are stuffed with "5 Star Man" meat, dressed just right and that bread, oh that seeded bread. It really sets it apart from every other sub shop. Personally I let it sit for about 30 mins and let that EVOO really seep into the meat but I will let you make that decision. Grab sausages and throw it in the freezer because once you have it, all other sausages will be deemed inferior. The stuffed peppers with the ricotta cheese are my true weakness though. Sitting in a really salty vinegar mix, these pack a nice punch and are my favourite football snack. Staff are all great, embrace the experience when you are here. it's a real treasure. read more
