The feta veg omelette special was delicious - the omelette loaded with veggies and feta cheese, came with a side of beans and rice, and tasty potato hash. Ask for the hot sauce, it's tasty! The meal came with either cream wheat or fruit. Tried cream wheat for the first time and it was sooo good. Warm, cozy, sweet and salty. Entrees came with a bread basket of homemade buttered bread which was delicious too. Service was excellent. Patio ambience was lovely for late morning brunch. Love that they offer breakfast all day. Only complaint is the long wait - but they offer complimentary coffee and lemonade, along with bubbles for kids to stay occupied. Parking in the area can also be hard to find on the weekends. I honestly have no words for how good the food is at Neighborhood Kitchen! Don't sleep on this hole in the wall. Just do yourself a favor and go! I ordered the creole chicken with rice and beans and a side of macaroni and cheese with a berry limeade. Everything was SO GOOD! The creole chicken was packed with flavor (only $12!) and the Mac and cheese was probably some of the best I've had! The homemade beverages are also a hit! I highly recommend the berry limeade. Did takeout here. Struggled a bit with the ordering process on Yelp. The regular menu shows items that are not on the Yelp/GrubHub menu. For example, I couldn't get a side of plantains and some of the beverages weren't on there. The food was ok. The Korean wings didn't really taste like Korean wings. The sauce was more of a jerk sauce and it was sitting at the bottom of the take out container, so the wings were dry. The lasagna with the plantains was interesting. The side of plantains were good - that was my favorite item. The portions were a bit on the small side for the prices being charged. Service was friendly. Street parking was easy to find. I have been wanting to try this place for a while! It's a small, no frills type of place where you order at the counter and pick a table. Food comes in takeout containers even if you're eating there. I came here with my husband for dinner around 6ish on a Saturday in February. I was incredibly frustrated when we were told two of the dishes we went there to try were out of stock (black rice and pupu platter). That may sound dramatic, but black rice is a haitian food staple, and the pupu platter is their appetizer sampler, so they were both high on the list if must-try to see what the restaurant is about. They did appear to be putting together a large catering order, but I don't think that should impact menu availability for restaurant customers. We ordered spring rolls (yummy), empanada (idk what these are, but they shouldn't be called an empanadas. They were ok), a side of Mac n cheese (not bad), h milly chicken sandwich (mind blowing delicious) and griot with beans and rice (also mind blowing delicious). The service wasn't super warm/welcoming, and the restaurant was literally freezing. We actually ate our meals with our winter parkas on it was so cold in there. Like they didn't have heat on in February...? But I could only take away 1 star because the food is what matters and they're killing it in that area. Everything came out piping hot, perfectly cooked and delicious. Seriously the best griot my husband or I have ever had at a restaurant (and he is Haitian, we eat that a lot). I'm a fried chicken and waffles fanatic, they have not only have it but they offer different flavored chicken and different flavored waffles. That being said, on my visit to NK I omitted the opportunity to get my chicken and waffle fix. I guess i dared to be different. I tried the fried fish sandwich, lemon pepper wings, Mac n cheese and the sweet plantains. The fish sandwich was amazing. Fried to perfection with the right amount of toppings and sauce. Definitely a must try. The plantains were good as well. The were sweet and cooked to order. The were soggy and gooey like some places. The Mac n cheese was decent. It was baked and cheesy but there was something missing. Possibly butter but definitely needed more salt. The lemon pepper wings were fried properly. The were just over dosed with lemon pepper seasoning. You have to have the right balance of seasoning because Lemon pepper wings can become overwhelming very easily. Tonight was a order in night, no one wants to cook in 90+ degree weather, so we ordered from neighborhood kitchen. We ordered: the creole chicken plate w/ djon djon rice, wing plate w/ djon djon rice, cheddar bacon scallion flex Mac n cheese, and vegetable rangoons. The good: - food was fresh and piping hot! - very generous portions! we are two adults and a 2.5 yr old, it was enough food for at least 2 meals. - everything was well packed. The just mediocre: - without the addition of the cheddar bacon scallion topping, the Mac n cheese would have been very bland and sad. There was a lot of crusty cheese goodness on top, but the macaroni underneath was not cheesy and creamy, honestly it was light on the cheese for my taste. - the djon djon rice is spicy, I have had a lot of Haitian food and a lot of the mushroom/black rice or so I thought. But I have never had it spicy. It was disappointing, I have a very low spice tolerance, but the worst part was I couldn't give any to my toddler. I wish there was a disclaimer somewhere about the spice. The sweet plantain is a nice touch to combat the spice! - creole chicken was well cooked, but bland, maybe to offset the spice of the rice? - I ordered the wings salt n pepper flavor, I liked that they came with some veg. I was way too hungry to take pics, but I'll be ordering again from here soon because it was that good! My delivery included two burgers, the fried chicken sandwich, and the steak tip plate, in total it was about $70. The food delivered well, it wasn't soggy or tasteless. Each dish was bomb.com! I do wish the steak tip plate with black rice (djon djon) was a bit bigger, but I will say that the steak tips were seasoned so well, the plantains fried perfectly, and the rice made with just the right amount of djon djon! And the side of pikliz (kind of like a spicy slaw without mayo) was perfect to sprinkle on the sweet plantains, steak, and rice! The sandwiches were SO good. The buns they use are toasted and buttery and added so much flavor. The bacon jam with the chicken Sandwich made for some sweet and salty and salty flavors that were perfect. This little place will surprise you. It's a tiny restaurant in a tiny strip mall that isn't big enough to be called a strip mall, and the food. Is. Excellent. It's the rare place that lives up to its name, and really has a friendly neighborhood and family feel - in part because of some of the staff being actual family. The pikliz here is AMAZING! Great pikliz and long lasting in the fridge I mean weeks! The teriyaki steak tips are a bit too sweet for my liking and undercooked, but I think if you enjoy teriyaki flavors and medium rare tips you should give these a try. The pikliz is decent and the tostones are good too but the thinner pieces that are fried crispy taste better, you kind of get a mix of textures where some are too thick and no crisp to them and I prefer consistency. The rice I was not impressed with and it was lacking flavor and salt. I felt it was a pricier meal than it needed to be. I have tried a few other local places that serve the same dishes and they usually ask the customers about their preferences so I would advise in the future to give the option to customers for well done tips and maybe slice the green plantains a little bit thinner. read more

Overall my experience with NK has always been yummy. My go to is always the Flexx Mac & Cheese Cheesy yumminess, even with delivery it always arrives warm and cheesy. This order still Mac & cheese but decided to try the lemon pepper wings. Hmm, I was thinking it would be more like a marinated lemon pepper flavor but it's a dry spice that's shaken on after the chicken is fried. Dry spice isn't a problem but man was it saltyyy.. like parched I need lots of water salty. I wiped a lot of the seasoning off, helped a little and some were edible, so not an entire waste. Pros are the portions, thought they were exceptional as I had leftovers with the wing plate. My son got chicken and waffles and although he finished it that's not surprising as yes a teenager. I got wing plate with djon djon rice. Wings are good, rice is great and plantains are ok. Overall I was happy but it wasn't the most amazing experience you've ever had, thus the four stars. I really really didn't want to write this. But here we are, imma be honest with y'all . The food tasted like absolutely nothing. We ordered lobster Mac and cheese, plantains,salmon sandwich, salt and pepper shrimp and two Thai iced teas. The best thing about the meal was the Thai iced tea and that wasn't even all that good because it was warm and the small amount of ice that was in the cup melted almost instantly. Wow, I'm not sure where to start. I am giving a 1 star for one reason only - I got a refund. To start, I'll set this up. Our building decided to have this restaurant take orders from tenants and then they would deliver. This would save on the delivery costs. We were told that the food would be here at 6 pm. My family has a tight schedule so I decided to go for it. Read until the end to hear what happened with 'Karen'. We all ordered grilled cajun shrimp. I had the bowl and my son had the taco. You would think the word cajun would mean spice. Not only did they forget the spice but they forgot the flavor. This is par for the whole experience. For my bowl, there was so much rice that it overpowered everything else. There is some type of sauce on top but it was so little that after four bites it was gone. I didn't mind the shrimp having the crunchy parts of the tail on it as it makes it easier to eat. But with so much rice and so little sauce, I was eating basically bland rice with a few bland shrimp. My kid had the tacos. Like mine, his meal was cold. There was no flavor and the shrimp had the crunchy part of the tail. Imagine biting into the taco and crunching on the tail. It grossed him out. He did like the rice but wasn't sure what the bean sauce was. The texture was weird. Lastly, we ordered their version of a Mexican donut but they were out. They didn't call and say anything. Instead, they sent over cheesecake slices, which were frozen. But here's the kicker - someone is our house is lactose intolerant and if they had called, we would have told them. Another epic fail on their part. Now let's get to 'Karen'. I'm going to not mention the person's name for multiple reasons but first and foremost to really piss her off. She calls me from the other building saying that they have the food and could we walk over there. Yes, they went to the other building first and asked us to walk over. When I talked to her, I asked if the food was hot and she assured me it was. I told her if it wasn't and the food wasn't good, I'm going to go ballistic. At that point, she took offense to what I said and called me 'Karen'. This is what you call good customer service, HA! So my kid walked over there. When he got there, the food was sitting in a bag on the counter in the lobby, she was nowhere in sight. But back to the point. When we were on the phone, she started to tell me that I was being rude and offensive to her and that she didn't even want us to get our food. So, let's summarize. The food sucks. Whoever is in charge clearly doesn't understand customer service. This 'Karen' needs to find a career where she isn't in the public eye. To be honest, I'm surprised that we had this experience with the reviews they have. Maybe this was just too much of an undertaking for them.
