I'm extremely disappointed with this shop and would not recommend them. After hearing a rattling noise coming from my truck, I called them about the issue with the catalytic converter, and they installed one that turned out to be defective. It initially passed smog, but shortly after, the rattling continued and now I have a check engine light on. When I brought it back to have it addressed, they refused to take responsibility and instead blamed it on my vehicle "running lean." This makes no sense, especially after another mechanic looked at it and confirmed the catalytic converter itself is the problem. I was also told that several other customers have had similar issues with parts installed by this same shop. Instead of standing behind their work or even attempting to resolve the issue, they dismissed it completely. Poor workmanship, no accountability, and terrible customer service. Save yourself the time and money and go somewhere else. read more

Called Bob's this morning to see if they could take a look at my car because I suspected that I had an exhaust leak. The friendly woman on the phone told me to come on over and they'd take a look at my car. No appointment necessary and same day! I arrived about a half hour after they opened for the day and there was already a few customers ahead of me, but the nice woman in the office told me not to worry that I'd be next soon. In less than 15 minutes my car was on one of the racks and a technician got to it trying to find the leak. Within a minute, the technician identified the source of the leak (passenger side exhaust manifold). The technician quickly fixed the leak and inspected my car again to double check for any other leaks or issues and found none. First class job done right the first time! I went to the counter inside the office to pay and was told "no charge." I should note that Bob's installed a complete custom exhaust system for this same car a few years ago. They did a great job then, so obviously I came back. And most definitely, I'll be back again. Top notch work and customer service. Best in town! read more

I was referred here by a mechanic in Gorman after my exhaust pipe cracked on a roadtrip. I didn't do any comparison shopping or read any other reviews. I went on trust. I was one hour into a six hour drive at the time. They raised up my car, showed me what was wrong, gave me a 1-2 hour estimate at $150/hour. I hung around while they fixed my car. Clean restroom. When the repair was done (I didn't keep track of time), they only charged me $100! I swear my car and the air circulation in my car is better than it has been since I got it! I went to Bob's for a simple repair ( my tail pipe had broken away from my Muffler) they jumped on it right away with out a lot of discussion or BS. Took My 2021 RAM hemi in for a muffler delete. the wait was over an hour. Price was good but my exhaust tips were left crooked. The driver side tip was sticking out the rear bumper more than the passenger which noticeable. The bad part is I didn't notice until I got home. End up getting it fixed at another shop when I went in for my resonators delete. Overall everything was good other than the rear exhaust being welded back on at an angle. My truck sounds better now Since I got the resonators deleted as well. read more

Stopped in early Saturday morning to buy an aftermarket Magna Flow muffler. They opened at 8am, my truck was on the lift at 8:20am and I was leaving at 8:40am....blown away at the the speed and service at Bob's Muffler. I would recommend them to ANYONE. Full disclosure....I arrived a little before 7am and I was #2 in line....By 8am there were at least 20 people waiting. GET THERE EARLY! First come, first served. Our check engine light popped on and after taking it to get diagnosed at ORiely auto parts we found out it was our catalytic converter.. We first strated buying the additive " cata-clean" and it turned our check engine light off for about a month, but we could tell the car still lacked in acceleration. And then it popped back on... After calling a few places, we where given quotes ranging from 800-1000$.... So my husband and I prayed on it, we gave it a couple days so we knew which move to make next. Which way God was directing us in. One day i sat staring at my PC and randomly just started searching for more mechanics. And One place out of the many many options just happened to stick out. I called and the nice gentleman refered me to Bob's muffler. And the rest is history. Over the phone we were quoted 428$ and in person was quoted 375$ , which is the price we paid! Everyone we encountered there gave off good vibes, was friendly and very attentive. I was pulling my RV out of storage for vacation and quickly discovered my catalytic converter had been stolen. I was frantic because it was afternoon on Friday and my trip started Sunday. I was convinced my two-week camping trip at the beach was going to have to be cancelled or at least delayed. The catalytic converter was stolen off my car in March 2020 and I took it to Bob's Muffler to be replaced. Fast forward three years - my car is rattling and smells like it's running rich. I took it to my mechanic who has been our family's mechanic for 20+ years, he tells me, "Your catalytic converter is bad, you need to go back to where you got it. They don't go bad." So, I return to Bob's Muffler. I have a copy of my original estimate, but not the HANDWRITTEN paperwork/warranty they gave me after actually replacing it. After burning through a quarter tank of my gas sitting on the "reader." They are refusing to fix their faulty parts and job because I don't have a copy of the actual receipt/warranty because "they don't keep record of those." Anyone else buying that a business that has been around for decades doesn't keep records of warranties they sell with their catalytic converter or is it just me? Anyone else think it's a quick way to force a customer to purchase another one? Anyone? No? Just me? Several people have made comments they wouldn't be surprised if Bob's Muffler was working with those stealing catalytic converters to increase their business, make a buck and honestly, after dealing with them today (most specifically the RUDE woman in the office) I don't think I'd be surprised either. Local Bakersfield businesses used to take pride in their work and customer relationships, not this one. Response to owner: I find it interesting you don't keep records of work you've done - suspect even. "Libel" and "defamation" don't apply to someone's OPINION, which is clearly what I provided. Are you insinuating it's illegal for me to ask questions on a suspect interaction? What type of "reputable" business doesn't keep records of their work? Of any kind? I love this Shop! Second time I've had my catalytic converter attempted to be cut out. Bob's took me right in. A few welds, and I was good to go. An the cost was very low, as I didn't have to replace a converter. This is an old shop... a little bit grimy and cluttered... in the oldest part of town. But don't let that put you off. They take great care of you here! Catalytic converter theft is at a frenzy right now. While I was there, there were at least six vehicles that pulled in with that familiar "open exhaust" rumble. read more

There were so many people that I've worked with (and patients I've worked with) who've constantly recommended me to come here for my catalytic converter needs. I'm glad I came here and wished I came here from the minute I was having cat issues with my 2006 Honda Accord Sedan. After having my cat replaced by a crooked out business in Earlimart, Ca, to find out by James that the cat I had on currently in my car was smaller than what my car needed. I was devasted knowing that I had the wrong cat all along running for a whole year but on top of that not having the original cat oweing more money (CORE CHARGE). Our older car kept getting the engine light, with the catalytic converter code on the OBD tester. But the generic converter code can be a multitude of issues, O2 sensors, poor running engine, etc. The Manager Kimberley, at Bobs Muffler had her mechanic do a full diagnostic looking at all engine parameters. They were confident after the diagnostics test that a replacement of the catalytic converter would do the trick. They were absolutely correct ! They replaced the converter in 45 minutes and at half the cost of other shops. Outstanding service and price, and no more check engine light !! read more

I can't say anything but great stuff about Bob's muffler my family has been going to to them for years, it's kind of that place that your dad goes to and then you go as an adult and you'll keep the tradition going. they've worked on almost all of my cars and all my dad's pick ups. We have had mufflers put in, custom catback exhaust, installed a manufactured catback, catalytic converter's, they even scan check engine lights! most recently they went out of their way and took care of me when a catalytic converter prematurely failed and I had to get a smog done so they replaced it no questions asked as long as I had the receipt, got the car smoged and were good to go! It's not the fanciest place in the world but it's a muffler shop what do you expect.. you know at least they have a soda machine and places to sit down in the shade. Even though I live in Tehachapi I will always take the trip down to Bob's muffler because I know there I'll get excellent customer service and they back their work. if you break a hanger they fix it, if it leaks, they fix it, if something fails they fix it! They warrantee their work and as long as you have that receipt you are good to go! read more

Had my catalytic converter stolen called Bob's Muffler the next morning. The lady said it was first come first serve I was there by 10:10, my car was ready by 11: 30! I think the gentleman's name that did my car was Luis he took his time to show me the damage that was done and what he was going to do. He was fast and efficient and waved me over to show me when he had finished, beautiful work! Everyone there was very nice and polite. The customer service here is almost too good to be true. James comes off as honest as any mechanic I have ever dealt with. The shop is older and that part of town is just as dated. Regardless, once you go here, I cannot imagine you would choose to go anywhere else. Today, I had them put on a cat-back. It sounds great now. The mandrel bend on the pipe is awesome, too. Pls update your website as it states u still work on radiators. My son had his car towed there during the night based on your service repair information and come to find out out during business hours u no longer do radiator servicing. I'm not sure how to directly reach out to Yelp to let them know as well bc when u search radiator repair, bobs muffler is listed as number 1. Will not give less than 3 stars based on this but pls update ASAP so this unfortunate expense does not happen again. In response to to your review James, my son was calling and kept getting a busy signal time after time then only to get thru and keep ringing. No one picked up. He walked in and was told by a female there that the radiator shop was closed and they no longer service them. No further offer or direction was provided.
