I patiently waited for my appointment (it wasn't available for me and her til 1!! month later). Prior to seeing her, I Instagram messaged her and she was very friendly with her response. Her name is Arisa and she welcomed me warmly during my appointment. Since it was early, it was just me and another customer so the vibe was quite chill. Arisa did everything including washing my hair, choosing the perfect minimalistic brown to coloring and cutting my hair. I loved how she listened to what I liked and gave me the perfect wintry balayage brown. I actually cannot wait to go again (although my wallet definitely can). If you wanted to color your hair and try to have a low maintenance no bleach, I'd highly recommend redge, specifically Arisa!

They've de-densified the seating at any time and extended some hours, so that you're a recommended distance from any other client. The stylist seemed to understand what I wanted right away--I even showed her a photo for reference. What I left with was half-blown-out, frizzy hair. It was obvious more time and passes with the brush and dryer were needed to smooth my hair. It's either that she is not trained or she didn't want to put in the extra effort needed with thick hair. The latter seems likely because my hair was visibly frizzy when she was done. When I asked her to go over it again, she did, but it made little difference. I ended up having to redo my hair myself at home. A complete waste of both time and money. Do not come here for a blowout. I even reached out to share my feedback and never received a response. I've been a Spoke & Weal client in LA, SF, and NYC, but after this experience I will not be returning.

A friend recommended this place but I was skeptical because I didn't think Astor Hair stylists were familiar with long hair. But wow was I mistaken! I met Regina, a beautiful kind and super experienced and unbelievably talented stylist. She asked me how short I wanted to go, what my objectives were (endure the summer heat) and maintain the line my former stylist had going on. Here's the result. Can I say I love it- yes! But my personal journey has been to maintain the full thickness of my hair, which is unrealistic when I compare with my goals to reduce the impact of heat on my neck and head. It will take some time to get used to managing a much smaller amount of hair. But my friends love it, my spouse loves it, and most importantly I have been able to replicate the same style on my own. 3X less expensive than my former stylist with better results. That's also something i love. Obviously, the vibe in this iconic place is fantastic. Gave me CBGB and late 70-early 80's nostalgia for my beloved NY.
