I had the Woon-Sen Pat Thai with Chicken or Tofu (Gluten-Free) which was a large portion cooked perfectly. I am not sure what my husband had but he enjoyed his as well. For apps we had a bunch of grilled meats! They were very good. I would go back and just order the grilled meats and drinks! Yum! Also if there are just two of you I would recommend sitting at the bar you will get fast and good service! While the dessert was good I would not recommend sharing it is far to small. And for the price I would just hold out and get something somewhere else. read more

This place is incredible. It has been a week since I visited Portland and I am craving the Pad Thai. It was the best I have ever had. Absolutely incredible staff. This place is a great experience all around. I particularly like the ambiance and the food. We had the pad tai and some Thai tea. The Thai tea they sell is from a former waiter which was pretty dope. My only negative thought was that it smells like wet dog when you walk in. However knowing Portland and the dogs, it very well could of been a dog who shook himself off after a rain storm in the entry way. The atmosphere was very loud and busy, but we still found our seating to be pleasant. I'd recommend having the smaller meal portions here as I felt the larger menu items didn't have the same amount of attention to detail. I love this place! I've been to many Thai restaurants, but never one like this. Everything on the menu is an explosion of flavor, aroma, and texture. Exotic and delicious, every entree is unique. The waiter asked if we wanted him to bring the food out all at once, or as it was prepared. We said as it was prepared, which turned out to be a good call because we all shared everything. He just kept coming and we just kept sharing, smiles on our faces the whole time. It was quite a culinary adventure! Our kids loved it, even though they can be picky at times. I always include a note about gluten-free options, since I and so many other people these days have serious issues with gluten. The good news here is that there are PLENTY of gluten free options at Boda! Asian food in general doesn't use much wheat to begin with, so most Thai restaurants are good choices for the GF crowd, and Boda is no exception. I have yet to try their day time menu, but I find their late night menu to be superb for quick bites. My two friends and I were in search of a late night meal in Portland on the night of February 4th, 2017, and many of the other restaurants we were recommended were closed or were exclusively sushi (a dish two of us love but one of my friends won't eat). Luckily, Boda was still open and seated us quickly! I thought the restaurant's atmosphere was lovely, with low lighting, intimate seating, and a large window to look outside. Our host and server, both gentlemen, were kind, quick, and helpful. We each ordered the pad thai, one of their only full size dishes on the late night menu. One friend and I ordered with both chicken and shrimp, and my other friend ordered chicken only. We also split a skewer of bacon wrapped asparagus, and got a tasty Collins style drink by a name that escapes me. I am not a fan of bacon, but the asparagus was perfectly cooked. My pad thai was actually the first I have ever tasted, and it is a dish that I will certainly get again. However, Boda has set a high standard with me! The server was careful to denote the level of spiciness we each preferred, and was very knowledgeable about the dishes and drinks we ordered. I was worried I wouldn't care for the peanuts, but I thought they added a very nice complexity to the texture, where the rest of the dish was comprised of softer foods. The pad thai was around $10, the skewer around $6-7, and the drinks, if I remember correctly, were also around $7-10. Very reasonable for a quick late night meal in Portland, where many restaurants might tack on another $3-5 on each of those items. Great service, large portions and flavorful dishes. We got the crab and shrimp fried rice and the drunken noodle dish which were both yummy. I also ordered the Thai Basil Tom Collins which is a gin drink, it was refreshing and interesting with the addition of the Thai Basil in the drink. This is our favorite place to eat in Portland. They don't take reservations and every time we've been they've been packed - 20-60 minute wait at times! - but SO WORTH IT. We've sampled a variety of things on their menu at this point. All the reviewers' raves of the quail eggs, crispy squid, and sticky rice balls are right on the money. They've also revolutionized how I look at brussels sprouts - theirs are crispy, flavorful and just out of this world. I'll also put in a plug for the Thai Basil Tom Collins which has become my very favorite cocktail. Service has been great every time. We've had a couple of their entrees as well as small plates and are always really pleased. If you live in Portland haven't been you're really missing out. Another great spot in Portland!! We walked in and saw some people waiting in a pretty small area, and figured we would have to wait a good bit. After checking in with the hostess, she told us it would be 30 minutes or so, and that was fine with us. About 2 minutes later she grabbed a couple menus and let us know our table was ready. Sweet! We sat down, and weren't helped/noticed for a good 5 minutes. Which kinda was weird, but whatever! When our waitress came to the table, we were ready to order. We got the app Ma-Hor- a fresh chunk of pineapple with ground pork, cilantro and a sliver of pepper- and it was soooo good. My husband is pretty picky, but he even liked it!! He ordered two types of meat skewers with a street corn on the cob as a side. I got a stewed beef with jasmine rice, and it was excellent. A little heavy on the coconut cream, but still great nonetheless. Besides the weird wait of no one acknowledging us, this was a stellar dinner! read more

Ate here on a weekend trip to Portland. We got there right as the dinner service changed over to the late bar menu service. For some reason, the waitress we had was in a foul mood and I picked up on her super-snotty attitude and I was ready to walk out of this place. We sat there and put in our first round of food order as we were going to do small plates and while we sat there and looked over menus, the waitress kept snatching our menus up. At one point, we figured out what our first round of small plates were and then I was ready to order my wine to pair with what I was eating. The waitress went to snatch the wine list menu and at this point, I asked her if we were "allowed" to keep a menu since we would be ordering more throughout the night. Luckily, she switched our table and the Wicked Witch of the North went away and our new server was excellent. Attentive, polite, helpful and not pushy like the first. This place has great ambiance though...I don't know why the stools at the front of the restaurant are so darn high. I'm short (5'4") so I felt like I was climbing in and out of a monster truck. The standouts on the menu were the bacon-wrapped anything, the quails and everything else was so good I just can't remember anything other than a nice food/wine haze. We left this place with a full stomach, two drinks each a piece, tax & 20% tip for $50 per person. So this place is good.....Really good! I let yelp completely guide me on this on and chose the place with the best reviews closest to my parking spot and this place lived up to the hype. I was travelling alone so I was seated very quickly and that staff were very prompt and helpful. I went with their recommendations for the curry mussels and the beef panyeang, and since every second picture on this yelp profile had the quail eggs, I had to try them as well. These choices were all wildly successful :) When the server bringing out my plates from the kitchen dropped the last one off at the table he informed me that I was doing it right and picked all of the best things off the menu. The quail eggs were cooked perfectly, served on a hot skillet with the perfect amount of seasoning. I will definitely be adding soy sauce to eggs in the future! And since I was alone, I got to savor all 7 of them :):):):) The Mussels were some of the best that I have ever had. Most of the time mussels are served in sauces that are too buttery and garlicky, so the red curry flavor was a very nice change. And then the fact that they brought out sticky rice to eat the broth with made me even more happy. Once again, this dish was wildly successful :) The beef panyeang was very good as well. The presentation is on point, and the flavors are all there. If there is one complaint that I have with this dish it is that the two that I had before this one were soooooo good, that this one seemed to be a step back, If I could have started with this one, I feel like I would have enjoyed it even more :) Because this place was so good I wanted to have a completely rounded meal, so I ordered a dessert. I got the Black Rice Pudding with coconut cream and it was absolutely delicious; served hot and with the cream on the side to stir in. First time in Portland, ME and probably passed by this place so many times when visiting downtown Portland. Went on yelp and saw really good reviews so my friend and I decided to try this place out. Ordered the apple salad, the crab and shrimp fried rice, braised beef with rice, and thai ice tea. The apple salad was soooooo refreshing and yummy; I gobbled it down like no tomorrow. The crab and shrimp fried rice was good, but it was way too salty for my palate. The braised beef was good. My friend and I cleared everything on our plates because we were both really hungry. This is not your typical Thai-as-fast-food Thai place. the menu has variety and a few surprises. More creative than 'authentic' but this is a good thing. The muscles were seasoned perfectly, although I always want fresher muscles- they had been on ice for a day or two, still quite good. Beef Panaeng was the best I ever had. We were trying to eat before a concert at the State and managed to grab a table (with some issues, but it happened) Only negative part of the night, I know Boda is fairly new but for some reason 3 4-tops were seated in front of us with no reservations that came in after. When the wait got to be about 25-30 minutes and looking at open table space we were getting a little antsy but shortly thereafter we were seated, had excellent drinks, and excellent food and service. Coming from NYC I am used to great restaurants and getting what I want. Since October, I stopped eating meat. When I went to BODA I was really crazing the Penang dish -- however they will ONLY make it with meat. I begged them to substitute it with Shrimp, but they would not do it. I KNOW you can make it with Shrimp if you want to. Why? bc I learned how to cook Thai food in THAILAND! Then I asked if I could have something with peanut sauce instead of the other sauce. Once again a resounding: NO!! So I ended up ordering the only thing I saw that I could eat: The Pad Thai. It was yummy -- but the price?? $17 for a Pad Thai??? WOW. This was more than in NYC!! So deadly, unfortunately, that I cannot remember specifics to warn you fellow Yelp users. But they were all delicious, and intensely creative - a very, very refreshing take on cocktails for the currently growing-boring Portland scene. And their Thai-herb infused bourbon is seriously a MUST try. Now, their food. I've only ever eaten their apps, but really, it's enough. Their tapas menu is the perfect place to go with a bunch of friends, hunker down in their swanky-Thai atmosphere, and chow down with some great drinks. Prices are, well, fairly typical for good, local food in the Portland area. most definitely worth a visit... or four. I have never been to Portland , ME so I "Yelped" for a nearby restaurant and was lead to this gem. The menu had unique offerings and the the atmosphere was really relaxing. The Ginger Beer was excellent [non-alchol] I had the Kee Mao Noodles and that was some of the best noodles I have ever tasted. The staff was really great too. read more

Found this on Yelp and so I am posting a review to return the favor. Went on a Saturday night with some not-so-adventurous eaters. Had to do some arm-twisting to get us there but we all enjoyed the meal. We did lots of chicken, pork satay, beef, and tofu skewers, rice ball, fried peanuts, a beef main dish, and the quail eggs. Lobster chips were a special but I was the only one up for trying them so we didn't go for those. We got excellent guidance from our waiter about quantities and types of food. He steered us toward some things and away from others. Very friendly and helpful - excellent service! The only thing that didn't bowl me over was the fried peanuts. Maybe with the right pungent drink they would be more lively but they weren't too exciting on their own. I appreciated the fact that there was parking right next door in spaces saved for Boda. So went to boda for my 3 year anniversary the other night not what I expected it was good bit not amazing. Service was fine.we had Brussel sprouts, quail eggs (best dish we had) teriyaki mushroom skewers, go hed salad and sticky rice ball. The rice ball and Brussel sprouts were burnt sadly. I had a chef Bob sour really good she had the mango mania which she enjoyed bit said was a little strong. Is really give it 2.5 stars. This is one of my favorite restaurants. It's a cute small restaurant with bricks and wood interior design. My main reason for coming back is the FOOD! It is DeeeeLicious! Ive tried the Brussels sprouts, Thai sticky rice ball, and Kee Mao noodles (combo with chicken + shrimp). I've had wines and the Thai iced tea which I enjoyed very much and they go well together with the dishes. The Kee Mao noodles is my favorite. I love trying out different plates but I'm so hooked on that noodle dish that I haven't tried more of their menu haha. Definitely worth trying! If you love Thai food, come here! Service is good. Bartenders and waiters are nice and funny. I always come here after a stressful day and leave feeling so much better. read more

Oh my! This place is sooooooo good. I'm really a sucker for a nice interior i have to say. Especially when its contemporary mixed with a little rustic.
