I was a solo diner on a business trip, and was warmly greeted and offered a seat at the bar in between a number of other couples, who were deep in their own conversations. The weight staff was very worn and friendly and very knowledgeable and professional too I never ended up chatting with anyone else at the bar even though it's a bar which is OK Yeah, I still had a good time. There's plenty to look at as far as the decor on the walls and watching the staff do their work and seeing other dishes go out. I had a couple glasses of wine, a salad, and a steak, which was more interesting than it sounds like because of the way they do their food there. I've told a few friends about it and I hope to go back even though I don't live anywhere nearby Kudos to this establishment. read more

Malbec is great since it caters to our family members who are pescatarians-vegetarians and meat eaters. The egg Fettuccines Gulfo Nuevo aka seafood fettuccine was delicious but not as described on their paper menu in the restaurant. It was suppose to include baby octopus and langoustine but had squid tentacles and shrimp instead. Please correct the paper menu to match your website menu. Also felt rushed by waitress even though the place was half packed during lunch. We could barely order appetizers since she kept walking away. Understaffed? Love it: Egg fettuccine with seafood Ceviche Classico The dining area is intimate and cozy but plenty of space in the semi open outdoor sitting great for large parties of 20 or more. The restaurant has such a great look inside out. We were able to be sat immediately provided great service. Staff were great in providing descriptions of the item of food, swift in brining drinks, and quick in placing our order. I ordered the 16oz steak with chimichurri and garlic fries. Ordered the steak Medium and it came out exactly how I ordered it. However, I think it was the particular of meat and not the manner it was cooked but the meat was super chewy. Overall; delicious food, meh service. Back patio is gorgeous, little to no wind, and the warm heat lamps. It was great for a dinner out. The busser was awesome, quick, and friendly. The servers were a bit awkward and service from them was strange. Malbec is a chain; I'm happy to report this Toluca Lake location is just as delicious as Santa Monica, and Pasadena. Service was lacking, but food was just right. Ribeye is priced right for size and quality. This place isn't crazy expensive but is a nice splurge out compared to staying home. We had the white sangria, carpaccio, skirt steak, ribeye, cebiche, and chocolate mousse. The carpaccio was on the salty side with the briny capers and salt they sprinkled on top. The pickled onions help cut the salt but I think you should ask for less salt on it. Skirt and ribeye were great. My gal pal got medium well and I, rare. We both got we wanted. The potatoes weren't my favorite side. I prefer large Yukon gold potatoes that are roasted. They used fingerling and it was just ok. Chocolate mouse was good. Overall I'd give my experience a solid B- (83%) Parking can easily be found in the neighborhood if you look around. Overall I'm annoyed because I like to drink water if having salty foods and I never got a refill on water. Not even once! The servers came by and asked how everything was, but it was super generic and rushed. Overall, the ambiance of the restaurant is nice for dinner with a friend or a date. Service is strange. Steak Napolitana (parmigiana) was flavorful and served with vegetables and mashed potatoes. Portions were large - enough for 2 meals. Veggies treated as importantly as the meat. We got the skirt steak w chimichurri sauce which was cooked to perfection we also got the potato dumpling pasta with a truffle fondue sauce, so creamy and soooo rich . For our side we got the crispy Brussels sprouts which you guys know is my favvvvorite thing to see on a menu. My babe and I had our dinner here tonight. Sat outside with the sidewalk. The interior looks nice. We tried their dine La menu. It was $55 per person. Each person get their choice with appetizer. One entree and dessert. Prix fixed. My bf had the salmon tartar and duck. He said he like it. I had the scallops and filet mignon. Both of our Portions were decent and tasted good. They served complimentary small bread slices with this balsamic olive oil with herbs in the beginning--which I really like the sauce. We both got the panacotta cream as desserts which was just ok. I really enjoyed this restaurant. Super solid. My boyfriend and I came for date night. We chose this place because I wanted steak without breaking the bank. We opted to share everything because we tend to over order. We parked with valet in the back, but I'm pretty sure you can easily find street parking on one of the side streets. We got: Steak carpaccio - Amazing! It was perfectly seasoned Beet and pear salad - Good, but since we had a little dressed salad on the carpaccio, I felt like we could have skipped this and ordered something else. Ribeye steak - My favorite cut of steak. It's simple and flavorful and super fatty. I'm probably going to skip this next time and try for the New York. Nicely grilled, perfect temperature. The 3 side sauces were delicious. Creamed spinach - Also very good. Good texture and taste. It came out super hot. I could probably just grab a loaf of baguette and finish the crock by myself. I don't like that they wouldn't allow us to split the bill in two. Nor did they make substitutions for meals, which is terrible if you suffer from allergies to specific ingredients in the food. I can honestly say that I was impressed...when my Argentinian friend Rodrigo wanted to meet for lunch, I suggested Malbec and made the Open Table reservation. We arrived in time for the lunch special menu. First off, the space is beautiful. It's done in dark woods with splashes of seasonal flowers for color along with sparkling glassware everywhere for all that Argentinian wine, of course! Our waitress Heather was friendly and efficient. She gave us space and time to decide on our order and answered questions about the various types of wine offered. We ordered two lunch specials, which came with a choice of (vegan) soup or salad and either a fountain drink or coffee. Lenguado a la Mediterranea, $21.95, was a delicious and tender sautéed pacific sole with white wine sauce, capers, lemon, kalamata olives and cherry tomatoes. Mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables accompanied. Mezzelune, $19.95, was colorful red and green hued pasta stuffed with leeks, mushrooms, cacicavallo cheese and topped with plentiful heaps of an amazing tomato basil sauce. I would return for either of these dishes again! I was too full to seriously contemplate the tempting dessert menu...I'll have to come back for the Budin de Pan- an Argentinian-style custard bread pudding. Anyone want to join me? My wife found this gem recently. We attended a wedding in Burbank and needed a restaurant to eat prior with friends. This is a very popular place on Friday nights and is just the right size for small parties of 4 or so. The atmosphere is a bit dark, but not too loud. They offer outside seating for those who feel more comfortable. The selection of Malbec wines and others is great, and the menu is limited but is good not to get lost. We ordered two bottles of wine and shared two apps to share, for the four of us. One a cheesy fondue dip and an other a crispy calamari, served with shrimp and two kinds of sauces a romesco and a chimichuri. For entrees the other couple ordered a skirt steak and a Argentine salad. We ordered a beets salad and hanger steak served with spinach and potatoes. The entrees sides, are are a bit on the salty side, but I rather it be too salty then not enough. Overall, it was a great experience and we all had a fun time. Upon arrival you are seated by extremely kind hosts and they give you time to order and understand the menu, while you wait for food you get the BEST bread and dressing, of my goodness it is honestly insane, it is just a simple bread and oil that they give but it beats ALL breads at restaurants. Cheesecake factory has nothing on their bread! So so good. We got empanadas that we're easily the best empanadas i've had and i've tried empanadas from all over the world. So amazing. Then my Rib eye steak came and just as expected it was AMAZING. Just melts in your mouth and has so much juice and flavor, not a single bite goes dry and had the most AMAZING creamed corn on the side with INSANE garlic fries. What a great spot in Toluca Lake area of Los Angeles. We were in town for tourism and seeing the sights with family and did a search to find a nice restaurant in the area. After reading some very positive reviews we seemlessly called in a reservation. We had two small boys and weren't sure how that would work with the restaurant, but everything was great. The staff was friendly, attentive, caring and helpful, which helped make our dining experience terrific. I'm not very familiar with Argentinian food and had a great meal, learning and trying some of the various sauces. The restaurant space itself feels comfortable and the white napkins help to make your meal feel special and pampered. Monday I called the restaurant and talked with the owner, Javier. Table for 5 that night? No problem. We were welcomed and taken to our table. The burrata, carpaccio and empanada appetizers were fantastic. The bottle of wine suggested by the waiter was delicious. We ordered two steaks, two pasta dishes and the truffle risotto. It's a steak place so I got the ribeye. One of the best I've had in LA. Been back several times, and tried many things there, but the ribeye is my favorite. The Paella is also amazing. Huge and good for sharing. We actually share the ribeye as well because I like to order an appetizer (pulpy and empanadas are both excellent) and dessert (I like the flan but the mousse is also delicious). The service is usually top notch. I think once I've had bad service but I've never seen that server again so looks like they solved that problem. I like to sit at the bar at most places anyway because I think you get the best service that way. The ambiance on the patio is really great as are some of the booths but you loose that a bit sitting at the bar. Parking can be hit or miss. The street parking is often full but there is a lot in back as well or worst case we park at the bank if it's closed. Overall I highly recommend this place. read more

I am not sure if the Malbec in Pasadena is the same as Bodega Malbec but I prefer the Pasadena location. I am disappointed with the tonight's service. Our waiter just wasn't tentative to us. Waited to order, waited for dessert menu, waited for the bill, etc The back waiter visited our table more than our own waiter. Food was ok and somewhat on the saltier side for me. I loved the roasted yucca! Chorizos were tasty, Tomahawk was delicious and loved how they provide some sea salt and chimichurry on the side. Squid ink pasta was ok but on the salty end for me. Desserts were good especially the affogato. Service is a 1 star which is a very important factor for me when dining. 20% tip automatically added to the check since there were 7 of us. I am not going to lie, it felt really good being able to dine in at a restaurant given the COVID circumstances here in Los Angeles. Malbec proved to be a wonderful choice for my entire party on that night. We were in search for a last minute dinner option as our original choice fell through, so after doing some research we ended up making a reservation to Malbec in Toluca Lake. First off, you can't beat the location of Toluca Lake. There are absolutely wonderful options to choose from and it is a tightly knit neighborhood with great options to choose from. You really cant go wrong with choosing anything within the area. I don't want to keep boring all of my Instagram friends, so let's get down to business! Here is the "Mihr Report". COVID Precautions: Upon entry, all staff were wearing masks throughout and were in great spirits throughout our experience. I know first hand how annoying it can be to wear a mask the entire day, but they did it with style. Kudos to the wonderful staff for their attitudes. Once seated, we were allowed to remove our masks and proceeded to look at the digital menu via QR code. Ambiance: We were seated in their back outdoor seating area, which really was a mixture of being indoor and outdoor. All I can say is wow..it was a mixture of quaint, cozy, and romantic all mixed together. It was such a perfect balance that I was having a hard time leaving when we were finished. The restaurant itself was beautiful and constructed perfectly. I truly was immersed in an Argentinian experience! Maybe its because I have been home so much throughout this year...but who cares! It's great to be out! WOOO!! Drinks: I ended up ordering one of the Argentinian beers (Quilmes) and I have to say that I was a fan. It is an incredibly light beer packed with some solid flavor. For sides, we ordered the Brussel sprouts and garlic fries, which were great side dishes that paired with our main dishes. For a table appetizer, we ordered the Calamari which was excellent. Properly done and just delicious. What a way to start off our dining experience. On to the main goodies. I ordered a paste dish, which looked like a new menu item, and all i can say is WOW. It included gnocchi, chorizo, sweet red peppers, and a marinara sauce. I was a bit hesitant, but I am so glad I ordered this dish. Packed with amazing flavor and left me feeling good about my choice. Another party member ordered the 16 oz New York steak which looked amazing and tasted amazing. The rest of the party ordered the skirt steak main course which was also excellent. Parking: Slight drawback was the parking situation. It can be a challenge finding suitable parking, but it was a Friday night in Toluca Lake so totally understandable. If you want to make your reservation, I recommend leaving a few minutes earlier to give yourself some time to search for parking. We were here to celebrate a beautiful occasion with last minute dinner options, and Malbec in Toluca Lake provided a wonderful service while making is feel relaxed and right at home in a cozy yet elegant environment. Wow just wow! My husband and I searched through Yelp for a steakhouse and this one caught my eye the most, so this was the lucky winner! We arrived a few minutes before they were even open and they kindly allowed us to sit right away. The server went over the specials with us and immediately my husband and I ordered the bone marrow appetizer along with their empanadas special. While we looked through the menu, the server brought over some delicious bread with chimichurri sauce. Omg our mouths could not handle all of these delicious flavors. Finally, we ordered 3 different steaks along with mashed potatoes and seasonal roasted veggies. We ordered our steaks Rare because they come on a hot grill, so the meat still cooks a while longer while it's on the table! Everything was just so delicious, I don't have any favorites! My husband enjoyed the "Lomo wrapped in bacon" the most and I just loved every single item we tried. Even with our tummies so full and satisfied, we had to try a homemade dessert. I don't know what's worse: the fact that they don't know their meat temperatures, or the fact that the kitchen decided to change my order. Ordered the "Lomo" (Filet Mignon) medium rare, it gets to my table and it's so rare it's almost blue in the middle. I sent it back and the busser who took it looked at it and immediately said "woa that is raw". A few minutes pass and my server comes back and informs me that they were starting a new one, and it would take 10 minutes to get it medium. I informed her that I wanted it medium rare. She leaves, and comes back again 2 minutes later and tells me that the kitchen said they didn't make a mistake, so they were cooking it to medium instead. I have been a chef for over 15 years: I know what a rare steak looks like. Hell, the BUSSER who saw it IMMEDIATELY realized it was raw. The fact these people decided to, essentially, tell me I didn't know what I was talking about and they didn't make a mistake, killed all my good will towards them. When I proceeded to tell the server I was an experienced chef, she changed the tune and the excuse became a "miscommunication" in the kitchen. That "maybe the busser told them to cook it medium". Even my wife did a double take. I personally don't know what the full truth is. But what I do know is that I was, essentially, accused of sending back food intentionally. From chefs who can't cook to proper temperature, to them deciding they were gonna change my order: I have never witnessed that level of crass mediocrity in a restaurant in my life. Not to mention the fact that the server got defensive and kept trying to give me excuses and attitude. I still left a 15% tip. I figured, having to work in that hell hole of mediocrity is punishment enough. Avoid this place like the COVID. There's many more great places in Toluca Lake that KNOW how to cook, and how to handle mistakes. This place sucks. Sad. read more

Chef does not own up to his mistake. We ordered pulpo for appetizer, which comes with steamed potatoes. The potatoes were cold. It felt like eating ice cubes. The potatoes were at the bottom, so we got to most of the octopus before realizing that the potatoes were horrible. We complained to our server who was very apologetic. She took it to the kitchen and apparently... steamed potatoes were supposed to be that cold according to the chef. They didn't make a mistake so they just returned the pulpo to our table. We finished the octopus but left the potatoes. They were not edible. We also can't believe that steamed potatoes were supposed to be served cold... in what world? My bf works as a server at an upscale restaurant in San Diego County and asked his executive chef if they were supposed to be cold. The executive chef said no and that this restaurant's chef is just a "lazy ass." We ordered 2 New York style steak, medium rare and got 1 rib eye and 1 New York style.. how do they even mess up such an easy order? I don't know. We didn't care about this that much though. They did give us the other NY style steak. We came in for my birthday as we were in town. We just were not having a great time. Server offered free dessert as a consolation but we just wanted to get out of there. I didn't even bother finishing my food. My bf doesn't like complaining at restaurants as he works at one too. He understands the struggle, but the chef insisting that potatoes were supposed to be served iced cold was very unprofessional.
