John & Vinny's Studio City is officially my favorite location. It's always packed, and for good reason. The only downside is the reservation system. Even with a reservation, expect a short wait. They hold tables for late arrivals, which often leaves empty tables sitting while people are waiting. A little tighter management would go a long way. Once you're seated, though, everything runs like clockwork. This location has a full liquor license, so unlike some of the others, you can enjoy proper cocktails in addition to beer and wine. The bar is spacious and perfect for dinner. The food comes out incredibly fast without sacrificing quality. If you're not planning a long evening, you can easily be in and out in 45 minutes. I only snapped photos of the Alla Vodka and tiramisu, but I've worked my way through a good part of the menu. The Gem Lettuce Salad, Beef Bolognese, meatballs, and pizzas are all consistently excellent. Honestly, it's hard to order wrong here. The staff is friendly, efficient, and the restaurant is always clean. The hosts? Let's just say they're very... LA, you already know the vibe.... thankkkkk uuuuuu Great food, great drinks, fast service, and remarkable consistency. This is an easy five stars and my go-to John & Vinny's location. read more

Great date night!! It was one of those weeks...takeout, cook something at home, or??? My partner surprised me with reservations at Jon & Vinny's instead and it was lovely. When we walked in we were greeted and sat instantly. Travis was a great server! Very attentive and recommended my partner get the old Fashioned, I went with the Coke Zero! The mozzarella sticks very well might be the best mozzarella sticks I've ever had. Holy Cheese! So good. I will be back for those no doubt. I ordered the gladiator pizza. Delish! I've heard great things about Jon & Vinny's for a long time, and this was my first visit. It definitely lived up to the hype. We went around 11 AM, which worked out perfectly because they were still serving breakfast (the menu switches at 11:30). Based on Yelp, I thought breakfast might be limited to just their breakfast pizza, but I was pleasantly surprised by how many options they actually have. The breakfast menu includes avocado toast, a variety of egg dishes, a la carte items, breakfast pizzas, and a solid drink menu with lots of coffee and non-coffee options. We ordered the avocado toast, pancakes, and a breakfast pizza, and everything was spot on... super satisfying. For drinks, we had espresso, a vanilla latte, matcha drinks, and their strawberry lemonade, and all of them were great. You can't go wrong with the beverage selection here. We sat inside, which has a cool, modern vibe, and I loved that the placemats double as coloring sheets and they give you crayons... it's a fun touch. There's also a really cute outdoor patio, and with the perfect weather, either option would've been great. The location is another plus. It's walking distance to Tujunga Avenue, which has lots of boutiques and other restaurants, making it a great spot to eat before or after a stroll. I went here last week with a group of 6. 3 of us got terrible food poisoning. It was the worst thing I have ever experienced. I couldn't keep water down for over 24 hours. I spent $300 on medical bills so I didn't die from dehydration. Mozzarella sticks ($17.95): Good, the marinara sauce was great -- it came with 6 (enough for each of us to have 1) Chicken wings ($28.75): Buffalo. Ridiculously expensive, but good (but probably not what you're here for we were just craving wings). Pesto Radiatori ($18.75): The sauce perfectly coated every inch of that pasta, a must order. It was really yummy in flavor but only serves about 2 people. We also got the spaghetti limone, it was delicious. Very citrusy and creamy with a crunchy bread crumb topping. Had an excellent meal here. Came on a Tuesday night and all the tables were full, but we were lucky enough to get a seat at the bar. Make a res in advance if you can! Service was great, vibe was hip, and the food was delicious. Plates can actually be shared, the portions are better than I remembered. I love their spicy fusilli pasta so much! The pizzas are delightfully cheesy and the crust is perfectly crisp on the edges. I really have no complaints. Also, probably had the best dirty martini here I've had in a while. Kudos to the bartenders! Lemon pasta didn't have an overwhelmingly strong lemon flavor, but the sauce was good. Little gem salad was refreshing and I loved the little spicy crunchy bits on it. I finally got to try this place after hearing about it for years and I came for my birthday dinner on a Monday night. From the moment my parents and I walked in, the place was packed. We had a 5:45PM reservation and it was already full. People just kept coming in the whole time we were there. Clearly a popular spot and now I get why. My family and I ordered a few things to share so we could try more of the menu: *Wood-grilled broccolini, which had golden raisins, almonds, and this lemon chili vinaigrette that gave it a really nice balance of sweet, tangy, and a little heat. *The Sarah & Shiri's Super Shroom, which had mushrooms, tomato, garlic, fontina, parmesan, oregano. *Radiatori pasta with pesto and pecorino For dessert, we tried two: *The warm strawberry bread pudding *The double chocolate cake with vanilla custard -Both were delicious! My friend and I had been wanting to try Jon & Vinny's for so long but the reviews always concerned us but after finally visiting it absolutely makes sense. I have to start with the fact that this place is way overhyped and that the food does not make up for the price. The food was neither bad nor good. I ordered the pesto pasta and my friend ordered the bucatini aglio e olio in which both really lacked in flavor and were overtaken by the amount of oil it had. The pasta itself was not as soft as I was hoping for either. The mozzarella sticks seemed like something that was probably originally frozen and the sauce was extremely sweet which is something I personally dislike the most (when a tomato based sauce is sweet.) The service itself was okay - the staff were nice but that's probably the best thing I have to say. As for the ambiance - honestly not really existent for what you expect when you think of an Italian restaurant. In regards to parking, it can be difficult to find depending on when you come if you're looking for street parking like I was, otherwise your option is to valet. Made a spur of the moment decision to try this out while we were in studio city. Had seen it on social media for awhile and wanted to give it a taste ourselves. After seeing some reviews, I will agree that the serving sizes aren't necessarily "family portions" like they advertise. The pasta is about one heaping spoonful. However, I loved everything we tried! The flavors were great and different from a lot of other Italian places in the area. We started with the garlic bread which was very buttery and garlicky, which I enjoyed. The gem lettuce was really good, highly recommend. Sort of like a spicy Caesar salad with bread crumbs. The Brooklyn dodger was great with texture, spice, great mix of cheeses. A little more on the crispy end but I like my pizza like that. The spicy fusilli was super hyped and it was delicious. The serving size was quite small, but the flavor made up for it. 7.2/10 not bad but not great -overpriced for small portions John & Vinny's is one of those places that always gets hyped as the spot for pasta in LA. The kind of place people insist you have to try at least once. And after three visits, I've got to be honest... I just don't get it. I've tried the Rigatoni Bolognese (my most recent order), the Spicy Fusilli, and another pasta dish on a previous visit. Each time I've walked away thinking: good, not great. The rigatoni was decent, but nothing I'd crave or come back for -- something I could honestly recreate at home with store-bought pasta and some ground beef. The portions are small, the price tag is high (almost $30 for a plate of noodles), and for me the flavor doesn't justify the hype. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. It's just one of those "not for me" spots. The atmosphere is buzzing, the crowd is constant, and clearly people adore it -- but if I'm paying $28-$30 for pasta, I'd rather head to a local Italian spot (or heck, even Cheesecake Factory) and walk out more satisfied. TLDR: 4/5 Maybe it was my open mind because Jon and Vinny's may have been redeemed after my affair on FairFax. But everything does taste better when you're not paying for it. I'm not going to lie after my first time here I was not planning on going again, similar to other reviews. But we ordered way more food so it was nice to get a taste of the rainbow and have a better assessment. Ordered: Gem Lettuce (Ceasar Salad): 3/5 I am just not a fan of a whole lettuce wedge being my salad. I just like my salad chopped. Its also not a shareable item, so if that's what they want to market, then just chop it. Also the heat on the sauce was not personally doing any favors for me. +1 for creativity but -1 for flavor profile. Overall its not worth reinventing the wheel for. Shaved Zucchini (Arugula Salad): 5/5 This was a big day for Elmo. I am so anti-arugula right now that I was about to have a contrarian disposition. But this blew me away. My issue with arugula is that restaurants think that it can be the main base of a salad but its such a strong and bitter flavor that its just way too overpowering. But not here. This was zuzzhini forward but the based was arugula still but the overall flavor of this was immaculate. The lemon vinagrette? Lovely to make your acquaintance. This was a perfect addition to leveling out the bold flavor without disrupting it. And the crunch overall of the other nuts was good. Now I will be honest it is a pretty wet salad but it didn't matter to me. It was light and really refreshing. Cacio O Pepe: 4.4/5 Thought this was solid! I don't really understand what makes much different than a Alfredo (shoot me) besides some cracked pepper but I thought it was pretty tasty! Bolongese: 3.8/5 Usually not a bolongese person or much of a red sauce person but I actually did enjoy this as well. Sarah's Mushroom Pizza: 4/5 The smell of this was whafting as soon as it came to the table. It might not be everyones cup of tea but it was mine. I love mushrooms which were a good balance with the garlic. The crust was perfect, we love a sturdy pizza. Canoli: 3/5 Pretty standard Bread pudding: 4.3/5 Good! The bread was fluffly and I like whatever fruit they mixed in with it. Service: 5/5 Maybe perhaps because we were quite a big group with a big order things were coming out and leaving the table like it was "Be our Guest" so much so that only had one slice of one of the pizzas before it left the table (hence why I didn't even mention the pepperoni). But everything came at a great time overall, drinks served swiftly as well. Parking: 3.5/5 I've had worse parking. The residential street is fine enough truthfully but you can valet. Note they do only have 2 hour parking on the residential up until 8? Now is it worth it? I might already have a predisposition to say no because I don't like spending $20 on pasta usually. Love the layout. But when you decide to play hip hop all the time (classic top notch cuts) you end up just listening to constant censorship. Like, what's the point in listening to rap when every tenth word is scrambled because they won't play the real uncensored tracks? Either play the real music, or switch up the genre. Don't play these mainstream stations that block the words. Also, they were playing "Trade it All Pt. 2 featuring P DIDDY. We really still playing DIDDY? Just doesn't match the vibe of an Italian spot, try playing some Sinatra. Other than that, the food is just okay, I had the shaved zucchini salad, which was good 9/10. Had the Brooklyn Dodger Pizza 6/10, too crispy and completely forgettable even while I was mid bite. Joe's on Ventura is way better, and so is Abbott's Pizza on Abbott Kinney in Venice. Overall bill was $120 for two salads, two pizzas, and one glass of Red. Staff is hit or miss. The Bartender is this really cool actor dude. But then what seemed like the manager was reading somebody out about something right next to the bar for like 10 minutes while we were eating. Terrible vibe to absorb into your stomach chakra. Can't we do that sort of thing in the back room, or outside? Whoever created this particular location crushed it though, because every business that attempted to succeed at this spot before, had failed. You can really tell that whoever designed it put top money into it, and it shows, well done on design and quality of materials. I just don't think the staff knows what vibe they are going for (which matters a lot, especially with the sophisticated and culturally adept people of Studio City). Is this a hip younger persons spot that plays rap constantly, or is it trying to compete with Vitello's for authentic Italian? Jon and Vinny's overall is a welcomed addition to the Studio City neighborhood, i just don't know what they're going for. read more
