    chopped cheese

I've been wanting to come here for the longest and have finally made my way to try Bodega PDX. Trying to find a chopped cheese replica that I had in New York has been very tough in the city. The bodega vibe was definitely there. The people making our food and taking our orders were pretty dope. They were pretty fast with the food and even cracked a few jokes along the way. The chopped cheese was great, but a little too salty for my liking. It's probably the closest thing I've had in Portland to a chopped cheese. I'm excited to try their other sandwiches soon.

Really tasty sandwiches. Menu is well-curated and service was friendly enough. Cool store and concept. Will probably not spend $15+ for such a small amount of meat again though. But tasty!

Slathered mayo and mustard on all of the lettuce that was put on my sandwich after I had asked for LIGHT mayo and mustard..

I usually love coming here for a sandwich, there was a new person in there today. His energy was ALOT, I asked for light mayo and mustard. It was not light at all. It was slathered all in the lettuce.. it was so much I took all the lettuce out of my sandwich. What's the point of customizing a sandwich to my liking if it's not made the way I ordered it?

I came here for lunch one day and had one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Located on Foster, this shop has been one that I've driven by hundreds of times but never stopped in, and after trying it, I wish I came by sooner. Bodega is both a sandwich shop as well as a small convenience store/deli, where you can buy other packaged goods and drinks. I got two sandwiches and both were HUGE. You're definitely getting your moneys worth. I got the Johnny Sacks with sourdough bread while my friend got the Chopped Cheese with parmesan bread. I've tried both and while the Johnny Sacks was delicious, next time I would love to get the Chopped Cheese (WITH the parmesan bread!). In the end, both of us could only eat half as the portions were huge (but it was even more delicious toasted in an airfryer as leftovers!). This is definitely a favorite in Portland.

Fun little stop for some quick yummy food or any convenience items. I of course had to come here for the famous pickle sandwich and it did not disappoint. Love the fast and friendly service. Great spot to sit outside in the summer but this is a store and not suited for large groups and tight indoor seating.

Finally had a chance to stop in to try since I pass by here often. Your able to order online or call it in ahead of time. Staff was super friendly over the phone and in person w pickup. Ordered a chop cheese which had mad flavor flav but next time I think I'll get the bread not toasted. The place is stacked w snacks and drinks galore...even cake or tiramisu if ya so desire. Seating is a few picnic style benches out front. I'll def think of this place next time I'm hankering for hearty sammy.

It is a convenience store, or small grocery store which is what Bodega means. The workers are always very friendly. They sell really good sandwiches. They have a New York favorite called the chopped cheese which is delicious! You must have a sandwich from here!

+ lots of unique chips and drinks which I appreciate it. got chinese lays and marrionberry soda. sandwiches and cannoli were good. all they would need for 5 stars is a bodega cat

    The Carmela

I made it back to try another sandwich on the menu. The Carmela was my 2nd choice on my first visit. It was beautiful upon opening! For bread, I went with the Parmesan, but I wish I hadn't. The sandwich was pretty salty, like a muffuletta in a way, but the Parmesan added more saltiness in my opinion. The flavors were almost overwhelming like good salt & vinegar chips, leaving my mouth a little raw or dehydrated. I still enjoyed it! The peppers are delicious on any sandwich it seems. I'll try another sandwich. I did notice on this visit that many items in the aisles don't have prices and that was bothersome. I didn't want to grab a candy bar and hear some ridiculous price.

Adriana with barely any meat. Is that one slice?
    Chelsea M.

I've been going to Bodega for years and love it. I usually get the Adriana. And love to walk around to grab a drink and chips. However, the amount of meat on the sandwiches has gotten somewhat nonexistent. I still go, but then I remember when I get my sandwich. It's tough because I do love them but $18 for a sandwich with two slices of meat and lots of bread is a bummer. I guess go and see because the sandwich combos are great.

Entering the shop, you will be greeted by loud music. Be ready for that. You will have the option to dine outside, if the weather provides it and the seats are empty. The hosts are wonderful and very accepting with a positive attitude. Smiles and all. I ordered the Jim because it was the only sandwich I could eat. The majority of the sandwiches contain meat, so I would not recommend this for vegans or pescatarians. Jim was delicious and I consumed both halves of Jim flawlessly. Either hunger overruled me, or the sandwich was that satisfying. I do recommend the shop, but with limited options for non-meat eaters, I truthfully would rate Lottie and Zulas, 4.5. Yet, I don't believe the spot was "good."

We also had the Vinny which was fine, a bit spicier than I thought it would be, but I'm a wimp. The service was fine, not overly friendly but adequate. The food is 4 stars, the service 3 starts, but the real bummer was all the plastic. Plastic container, plastic cups and we were eating in. They asked if it was to go and we said no, but everything came in plastic anyway. The ambiance is quintessential Portland, right up until they bring all your food in plastic with plastic silverware to boot.

On rainy or cooler days, I could see seating being issue during peak hours. Parking is also very limited. We walked up, the cashier was nice. She warned us that they were out of a few things as we came later the day. The menu is extremely limited - three items on the menu for actual lunch. We ordered a Loxsmith - sub cream cheese for avocado (crazy I know!) & a Chicken sandwich. We also got two hot jasmine green teas. There was an auto gratuity / service fee that applied. Our total came out to about $50. The food took a little longer than I'd think it would but the food was absolutely delicious. I wasn't too thrilled with the amount of dressing that drenched my salad but the dressing itself was good. I'd opt for it to be on the side next time. We were very satisfied with our food, but this was a much pricer lunch than we expected from a bakery. Nonetheless, the sandwich was a treat. Their pastries/bread look great too. I'd come again. note: despite how good the food is, the challenge to find parking, prices and very limited menu made me hesitant to give it a 5/5.

Tender, melt in your mouth with yummy BBQ sauce + it's in a Banh mi so you get the crispy texture of the fresh baked bread and pickled veggies = perfection! I appreciate fusion food when it's done right! The BBQ pork was also yummy. This one was a more traditional Banh mi flavor and we brought our own hoisin sauce to complement the flavors. What I really like about this place is they have more than just Banh mi. They have momo!! These are Nepali dumplings which are either steamed or pan fried and you can get them loaded with spicy chili sauce and peppers and onions or with other sauces. We got the spicy ones as an add on to the Banh mi. They gave me a small container of spicier sauce that was delicious when used sparingly. Hubby got spring rolls and a soda for a small ad on combo price. Those were freshly fried to perfection and tasty as well. We thought we'd have leftovers but everything was so tasty we ate most of it while talking with the owner who is a really nice guy. Writing this has me craving a return trip!
