Came for a friends birthday in a group of 3. We were plenty full and tipsy off of sangria and spent about $60 each. Not bad for DC, especially for the quality of food! What a delightful way to spend the first dinner of the first day of Springtime? My sister and a close friend decided to venture down to DC for the afternoon. It was a beautifully mild day and people were out, enjoying what Georgetown had to offer. As day turned to night, we were hungry and were trying to figure out where to go. We first went to a restaurant up the street from Bodega, but there was a long wait and we just decided to keep going. That's when our friend pointed out Bodega. None of us had been before and it was quite the experience! Surprisingly, there was no wait time-on a Saturday evening in Georgetown?! I can now say that it is indeed possible for that to happen, lol. Anyhoo, we had the option of sitting outside, in the tent area, inside the actual restaurant, OR out on the back terrace. We all chose the terrace, which I highly recommend- especially if you're on an intimate date with that special someone. The waiter was very nice and patient with us, as we were all first timers. We had to Google a few of the dishes, and after a little while, we all made our final choices. My sister settled on the lamb chops with mashed potatoes, and our friend chose the Pimientos del Piquillo Rellenos de Costilla de Beuy (braised beef stuffed inside piquillo peppers) & the Gambas al Ajillo (shrimp sautéed with garlic, piri -piri peppers and olive oil. I also had the Gambas, along with the Albóndigas Estofadas (cocktail meatballs stewed in a red wine sauce). Absolutely NO ONE in my party had reservations on what they ordered! EVERYTHING was absolutely delicious! We all tried each other's dishes (because that's what tapas is for, right?!) The garlic shrimp came to the table sizzling! The smells of roasted garlic and peppers were intoxicating. The shrimp were a good size and were very fresh. The braised beef was soooo flavorful and tasty! The lamb was grilled to perfection and seasoned perfectly. The meatballs were filling and so, so good! The wine sauce was so delicious that I drank the rest straight from the bowl! The atmosphere was perfect. The retractable awning slightly opened to reveal a beautiful spring night sky. My sister laughed at me grinning from ear to ear. On a how summer day my wife and I made reservations for an early dinner at 7 pm. Our go to place for tapas has always been La Tasca so we decided to try some place different. located in Georgetown with parking close by unless you arrive after restrictions. If you have time plenty of shopping but it was so hot we went in. Shown to a table which was nice but not set up to sit across from each other so we shifted but waiters kept bumping into the back of my chair. We had noted a special occasion so surprised they didn't place us better. Quite spacious inside and working an hour quite packed . Jose Antonio was our server and was kind to explain the menu as well as fake a few pictures. We ordered tanka charcuterie can aceitunas which had a nice variety of cheeses and meats. We asked for some bread with oil (I notice you almost always have to ask everywhere given it's no additional charge). For main course pollo paella which of course comes one size only and when you add in shrimps it's $42. My wife had the steak Taos which was good but did not come with potatoes. We opted to order a-La-carte because the paella that comes with the dinner for 2 option is only the individual size. We got the large size of the marinera con bogavante paella, which came with generous amounts of lobster, shrimp, mussels, clams, and squid. Even though it says for 2-3 people, I think it's a good portion size for 2 people only. The camarones a la plancha was fairly bland, and my least favorite dish. We wore masks while ordering just for our own comfort and the staff wore masks and gloves the whole time. I came here for a weekend lunch with a friend, and it was shockingly busy for a Sunday at 1:30 PM! I'm really grateful that we had made a reservation because every table was full...and the food certainly lived up to the hype. The prices were decent, but honestly a little bit on the higher end; we tried the two tapas: the ensalada de peras y nueces (field green salad with pears, walnuts, goat cheese, and a honey vinaigrette), pulpo a la plancha (seared octopus with potatoes and smoked paprika). I really enjoyed the salad, although they were a bit heavy-handed with the dressing, so I'll definitely ask for them to place it on the side the next time I stop by. The octopus was wonderful, with a perfect texture and level of flavor, but I found the potatoes a bit bland. My friend and I then split a paella marinera con bogavante, which was quite extravagant; it contained a variety of seafood, including monkfish, clams, mussels, scallops, squid, shrimp, and a whole lobster! We got the individual portion and split it betwen the two of us, but we were honestly only able to eat about half of it, so you can definitely split a single one between three or four people, or maybe more if you order a few extra tapas. It was incredibly flavorful and absolutely delicious, although, honestly, I think that there was almost too much going on. Next time, I might try the arroz abana or paella vegetariana instead, since I was a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of things in the paella marinera con bogavante (as wonderful and exciting as it was). The service was generally phenomenal, although it did take a bit of time for them to get our check out to us (I think we were waiting for about 20 minutes after our table was cleared, and then an additional 15 minutes after we gave them our card?), but that's 100% understandable considering how busy they were. Overall, I think that Bodega is a really solid spot for a slightly classier evening dinner or weekend lunch, considering their wide selection of tasty dishes, variety of drinks, and upbeat energy. read more
