Bar Boheme is responsible for popping my drag brunch cherry. I come for the queens but stay for the food...well the food & the queens...the queens are great! This eclectic gem is my go to spot for Drag Bingo, Drag Brunch, Latin Nights, and Boheme Bazaar. They always have amazing happy hour specials to be enjoyed inside or out on their giant pup friendly patio & offer the PERFECT setting m to safely enjoy yourself with a date or friends in this "new normal". The service varies, but the staff is generally attentive. Parking can be tricky. I typically find a spot in the neighborhood and walk, but occasionally they have valet. Went to Drag Bingo on Saturday! It was definitely a fun time. Wish there was more options to the buffet tho. But hands down best beef empanadas. The patio is fully tented with tons of air flow, fans, misters. It didn't feel like 100 degrees outside with all that going on. The bingo and show was fun. This Montrose gem is the perfect date spot or hangout spot with friends. I love the vibe and decor (not to mention the tasty food and drinks). I stopped in with a friend recently for some cocktails and food before a flight out and it was the perfect choice. We stopped in around happy hour. There was no wait staff at the time so we had to order drinks and food at the bar. Wasn't too crowded so we were able to put our orders in pretty quickly. I went with a classic Old Fashioned for my cocktail and food we opted to try the Wild Mushroom & Cheese Empanadas, the Cuban Sliders, and the Vietnamese Fries. To be honest - I had low expectations for the food (bar food can be hit or miss) but everything was so good when it came out! Im not hugely a huge mushroom fan but the empanadas were amazing and the real showstopper were the french fries. When I first ordered, I thought $13 was too much for fries - but when these bad boys came out I totally understood. Went here for a middle of the week happy hour and it was great. Walking by there's a cute little patio in the front and sides, plenty of parking on the street around it during the week. When you walk in we were treated by the bartender, ordered some drinks and food and sat outside. The service was really amazing to be honest. Brought our food out quickly and brought waters that we didn't ask for. The ambiance is really chill. Happy hour prices are pretty nice. Had the porter, fries, and a $7 cocktail. I would rather pay a higher price to watch an actual show than to pay a lower price and the show was just the performers walking around the tables and asking for money. *BEWARE* They charge every tab 20% tip and then process your payment on an electronic machine that only shows you the total! This is so shameful and sneaky & bad business! The last time we went there we double tipped, so that's 40% on 2 drinks.. total was ~$40. The fact that they sneakily hide this is why I came back and rereviewed. Please change this.. your bartenders are not honest enough to let guests know they are DOUBLE tipping. It says it on the menu but who is going to read every thing including fine print on a menu?! Really fun for drag brunch! It keeps getting better and better over the years! A great event for people visiting Houston!

I recently experienced the drag brunch show this sunday and it was really awesome. I had seen Sin City at the hamburger Mary's drag show awhile back so I was super excited that she would perform here at Boheme. When we arrived there was already a line that had formed so, if you are thinking to purchase tickets to this event, make sure to get there earlier so that you aren't waiting forever in the buffet line. The buffet was not bad, there was a wide variety of food to choose from but I did not like that when I asked for brisket, I was only given one small slice so I had to ask for more. It was only my friend and I and there aren't very many smaller tables for parties of two so we had a really small table that was sort of in the way so people kept bumping into us while in the line for the buffet, I think it was table 30 if I'm not mistaken. The plus about the location of our table was that we were in a good spot for the performers. The mimosa glasses and the wine bucket that our carafe was in were dirty and I realize that it's hard to keep things pristine but for dirt to be on there is not ok. The show was absolutely amazing and it was a really fun crowd, so my overall experience was really good but next time I go I will make sure to book a table for 4 people and get there early. read more

Phew, had to go on their website and search before I could conclude that the food truck that came to our community was the same as this restaurant! Yes, the food truck- this can be pre- booked for a party etc., they will park at your doorway and cover your party food needs. They have vegan options too although that particular day they did not have many. Honestly, I love the idea of their truck and they delivering their frozen alcoholic drinks at your doorstep, and maybe the drinks were really good too, could not try it as I was there .... lets just say not the appropriate company to drink with.. so we stuck to the vegan/ vegetarian food options and I was not very impressed- the empanadas were oozing oil, the green salsa/ sauce whatever it was, look more like something to drink rather than eat chips with, the Vietnamese fries... oh, they were sweet, cheezy and all soggy- maybe the soggy was to be expected- ultimately not a good experience! I would give this restaurant 0 stars if I could, 1 star is far too generous for my experience. The food was TRASH & ice cold. The heaters are broken & the server couldn't have cared less, so we were freezing. The drink was overpriced & tasted like sugar juice. I can't even fathom how horrible this restaurant is. I wouldn't recommended it to my worst enemy. Do not come here, unless you want bad service & bad food. UPDATE: the manager responded, and I have no idea what they're talking about. My table didn't have fireball shots, it must have been another table they're referring to. We were not offered another heater. There was only 1 heater available & it was not working properly. It seems this manager responds to all the negative comments defensively, which makes sense because most of the reviews are negative. Sadly, when most of the comments are similar it seems as though it's the management that's the problem, not the customer. This restaurant is awful and I would never return. Avoid at all costs. The food is cold, the servers ignore you. It's an act of congress to get change to tip the queens which is unfair to them. The first thing our server asked us before even asking for an order was how we wanted to pay. There's zero leadership and organization. I feel bad for the queens because they would probably do much better if this places management acted like they gave a crap about their customers. UPDATE to mgmt deflection: I'm not sure why this management team is obsessed with deflecting on all their reviews with side stories that don't make sense and that this review wasn't involved in. Instead of guessing who wrote a review they should probably focus on executing a drag show properly. I'd invite them to prove where this review and several others on different days are from saying the same thing. I was seated on the side of the stage and could see that this team wasn't prepared. There are several reviews just like mine that say the same thing from other dates. It's rich this manager is trying to deflect from her CONTINUING issues rather than just address them. I've never been to a drag show in my life (and I've been to a lot) that blame their "cashless system" on not providing change for their queens. One of the queens had to awkwardly make change with us during her performance for us to be able to tip her. I was appalled by this and I'm sorry this has become the "norm" for them just like the norm of deflecting bad reviews with irrelevant side stories that don't even change the substance of the complaints at all. They're consistent throughout this yelp. I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time coping with your subpar leadership and inability to create a fun and effective experience for your customers. I used to really like this place but will not return after an experience I had at happy hour recently. I have came here a few times because I like one of the drinks on the happy hour menu, which I ordered this visit and was given a totally different drink. When I inquired, I was told I was wrong by the bartender. When another bartender came a few minutes later, I asked her what was in that drink I ordered and she told me the same ingredients as the one I usually get and I explained mine did not have that was just plain. She told me that was incorrect and offered to remake my drink which I had only drank 1/3 of. Once she handed me the new drink, the waiter took my old drink away, and we went about our meal. When the bill came, I was charged significantly more and when I asked about it, they told me that I was charged for two drinks instead of one. I told the bartender that the other person had remade the drink after telling me mine was incorrect. The bartender told me that since I had tried the previous one I needed to pay (even though it was incorrect and I had told her it was incorrect). She proceeded to be extremely rude and it was noticeably uncomfortable and I asked to speak with a manager. She told me I could not and she was the manager. Then she asked me to list the exact days I had been there over the last year and I said I wouldn't be doing that and would like her to stop and to pay my bill and leave. It was an awful and very awkward and unnecessary experience. Unfortunate because this place has a great happy hour but I'd rather give my money to somewhere else. BEWARE. This was one of the worst brunch experiences of my life- as an actual group of gay men (and trust me, we were one of the only groups of gay men at this establishment), and from out of town, we had high expectations for Boheme on our last day in Houston which was recommended by several friends. We attended the Sunday Brunch for a birthday party. Unfortunately as the gays do, several of our group of 10 were too hungover to join, but we mustered 6 to attend. Slightly weary of the "buffet breakfast" idea, we assumed at $50 after tax and forced gratuity, the cost of a filet mignon at a nice restaurant, it would be an upscale buffet? We arrived to everyone lining up as soon as they arrived to a huge snaking buffet line, but figured we'd wait until the line dies down. Surely at $50 a pop, they'd have plenty of good food to go around? NOPE! After getting in line with our first drink, we arrived to the front of the buffet line to find empty bins full of unwanted food. They were completely out of the biscuits and gravy we'd all said we most wanted. The rest of the food was ill presented, cold, and something out of a continental breakfast at a Day's Inn. The pictures speak for themselves. I guess this explains the mad rush of the locals for the buffet line, but as out of towners with no warning, we were left to the scrapyard. Upon asking if the biscuits and other food would be restocked (sorry, they're out! Shoulda got in line sooner), they brought out a few extra unwanted dishes and made "special" appetizers just for us (fries with sriracha squirted on top and what appeared to be a sub from White Castle - see pictures). At $50 a pop we were all left feeling completely taken for, and it ruined our morning. We decided to close out early and head elsewhere as the drag brunch was not really for gay men (we felt like the only group there), it was more of a bachelorette party kind of place. Upon closing out, (and mind you we also spent about $200-300 additional in drinks and pitchers), we were informed that they would be charging us another $200 ($50 each) for the 4 people that didn't show up!!! OUTRAGEOUS. We had tried to change the reservation earlier but they wouldn't let us within 24 hours, but figured with the buffet running out of food they couldn't possibly charge us for people that didn't even attend it. The manager Saylie came over after asking to speak with her, and she was downright rude and condescending to us, refusing to not charge for the 4 people that didn't show up even after our experience and how much we'd spent on drinks. Her words? "If we do it for you, we'd have to do it for everyone" - yes Saylie! I would expect good food and if expectations aren't met for you to make up for that, for everyone. After persistence she only charged us for two additional people, but we still left feeling swindled and she glared at us menacingly until we left the brunch, we did not feel welcome. Don't forget service is not optional and brunch ended up costing close to $150 each. Sad that we have to give at least one star, but I'll say it was for the Frozen Mojito pitchers which were great, but not worth stomaching any of this food or the service. If you're a group looking for your fun delicious Sunday Brunch, AVOID! Be aware that if you book this place on a whim, you're locked into $50 a person no matter how many you show up with 24 hours before. Go patronize one of the many actual gay establishments in Montrose that isn't using drag queens as bait to take advantage of unsuspecting customers with a cheap hotel breakfast. read more

I'm adding a star because a waitress tried to make it right. I went to the bar to get a glass of sangria. I was appalled that the bartender automatically adds a 20 percent tip. I went to the bar. This wasn't a drink served at the table. He said it's a tip pool. I Boheme not paying their bartenders anything? I went to my table hoping to enjoy a glass of sangria on this very warm night. It tasted like sangria from a bottle. I couldn't drink it. I bet there are tasty bottled sangrias but this isn't it. A waitress approached our table and I told her I didn't like the sangria at all. She offered me another drink in exchange for it. I had a frozen margarita instead. I wouldn't have minded paying $10 for an excellent homemade sangria, especially with the awesome live entertainment. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED FOR OUTDOOR AND PATIO SEATING. That was the first lesson I learned coming here. Perhaps I neglected to read the Yelp reviews and tips which was a booboo on my part. It was a beautiful Sunday morning/early afternoon and when we arrived, I asked for outdoor seating. Friendly gentleman asked if I had a reservation and I said no. The only available seats were at the (outdoor) bar- first come first serve basis. Fine, bar it is. One of my pet peeves for bar seating is no hooks to hold handbags. So you guessed it, no hooks. At this point I needs a drank or five. I went with the Brunch Mojito. It would have been nice if the bartender told me it was frozen. Okay, whatever, no big deal. But it tasted awful! Yuck. Now I don't even wanna order other drinks. Next, food. We asked for food menus and they said it's limited on weekends and they are serving buffet style brunch and a very few appetizers. My friend mentioned trying this place out. I'm so glad she did!! This All you can eat Drag Queen Brunch was loads of fun. The buffet selections were great from fresh berries, melons and a salad. There was a variety of choices from churro, French toast, biscuits and gravy, eggs with and without veggies, sausage, the best bacon, fried hard just like I like it. I really wanted to like this place. It has interesting cocktails and huge outdoor seating, but the vibe was off from the moment I walked into the establishment. Maybe it's because they were understaffed. Maybe that's just how they roll. I don't know and honestly, I'm not inclined to find out. Walking into the place you immediately come upon a huge bar. No hostess stand or anything really to greet you other than a big bar, so my assumption was to walk up to it and someone would acknowledge me. That was a mistake. There was no "hey, welcome to..." or even an "I'll be with you in a second". Just silence from a bartender as she painstakingly assembled a drink and then at some point a small head nod. She was concentrating so hard on making the drink that I didn't want to interrupt her to ask about the outdoor seating. It was a good 10 minutes of awkward standing by the bar while she figured out her order before we were treated like humans. It was a real crap start to our first visit. When we did chat it wasn't much better. It felt like I was bothering her by existing. I get that people have bad days, but I was being treated like I had run over her dog. At that point we found a seat out back and debated if we even wanted to grab a drink. The frozen Piña Colada was tempting, especially at happy hour prices, and the Dizzy Espolon sounded interesting, so I went back inside to give it another chance. This time I bumped into the other bartender and he gave the kind of service I had hoped for earlier. He acknowledged my existence, answered my questions without making me feel like a burden, and quickly prepared the drinks. It was a nice interaction. I know I've spent a lot of time talking about service and not the drinks (which were nice but not amazing) because if you're going to hang out at a place to drink and relax you want to feel comfortable and welcomed. We have been here numerous times and the food was good and the drinks were strong. However today, we had a bad experience and will not return. We went for the happy hour and ordered the same drink we have the past times and were given a different drink. We explained to the bartender that we didn't get the correct drink -- we ordered the Spanish gin and tonic and she said we did -- it was only gin and tonic. After we inquired/argued she added some cranberry juice-- which wasn't nice. We asked another bartender and she said no we were not given the right drink that our drink should have had some fruit flavored bitters and would we like her to redo it, which we agreed to--as that was the drink we had gotten on our previous visits. We thought this sucks, but it's over and we can enjoy our time. Fast forward to getting the bill and we were charged $14 extra for the drink?! The happy hour drink was $6. After 10 minutes of absolutely unnecessary arguing, the 2nd bartender said she made a mistake. Note we didn't drink the first drink. We asked to speak to the manager and the woman who made our first drink, Angelica, said she was the manager, which based on her poor customer service and not making the correct drink in the first place, seems very dubious. In the end after a super hassle and argument they took the extra $14 off the bill .. but the whole experience was so bad we feel we need to warn others. We immediately after the first sip said we thought there had been a mistake and instead of trying to fix the problem, it was just an argument about how we were wrong. A few small tables inside but a lot of outdoor seating; was quite cold but had a number of heaters/fire pit tables. Drinks: ordered their house special frozen mojito. Maybe a bit watery for my taste compared to a classic mojito. Would probably order a normal mojito next time. Food: ordered empanadas and charcuterie board. Crust on the empanadas was super flaky and the chimichurri sauce was nice and tangy. Got a good amount of meat and cheese for the price of the charcuterie board. Fruit and additions could have been a little fresher. Ordering and Payment: cashless establishment. Order at the bar. Overall - would come back for the empanadas and cocktails for a late evening drink with snacks. The two stars are for my memories of visits past. The Vietnamese fries, the relaxed, friendly atmosphere, and the nice array of drinks all made me remember this place fondly. I don't work in the area any longer and haven't lived in Houston since 1997. Because we were in the big city for a show on Thursday at the Continental Club (Engine Driver, check them out if you haven't), we thought that it would be a great opportunity to have after show drinks and a light meal at Boheme. While no one was the least bit unfriendly to us, the vibe was less warm than I remembered. Told that we could sit anywhere, we opted for a table by the window and Dan went bar-ward to order drinks. Unlike some who've reviewed Boheme, we noticed the 20% service charge on all tabs right away. Not a fan of that at all, but not necessarily a deal breaker - almost though because why do that? I'd been on the website so I saw that they had wine, enough of it that it has its own tab on the site. When Dan asked about chardonnay, he was told that there was one available and it was not either of those listed on Boheme's website. But okay fine, we decided to go for it. When the question of what to order for our light meal come up, it turned out to be a moot point. The kitchen was already closed. Sigh. Really? Here's the thing -- I know that kitchens tend to close earlier than bars so I looked. I looked on the website, rather thoroughly, and found no information about when the kitchen closed so I assumed that we were good to go on food. Not the case. We left without the chardonnay and its 20% service charge and ended up at La Tapatia. Although we were told that the restaurant was closing in ten minutes, we were invited in cordially, got delicious margaritas while we waited for our to go order and were able to tip (generously) what we wanted to tip. It's obvious from what I've read on Yelp about Boheme that the 20% service charge is a sore point for a lot of folks, especially those who didn't see/notice that it was a thing. So Boheme's response has been to point out that it's listed everywhere you could possibly think to look which absolves them of any censure. I still say why do it at all. But I would ask them to follow suit by posting kitchen hours everywhere too. A final thought, it seems slippery to be cashless (COVID will never go away but the plague times are over) so that people are forced to use a card and be charged a 2.75% credit card fee for doing so. read more

If you look around, you'll notice people have ordered massive amounts of fries-- that's one order for all to share! It may be either the Vietnamese Fries or the Bangkok Style Fries. We ordered the Bangkok Style Fries solely because of the shredded pork shoulder involved. The ingredients are fairly similar. I went to Boheme this past Sunday for their Drag Brunch and it was so much fun. They have a $25 brunch buffet and several drag acts during the brunch. The buffet included salad, biscuits and sausage gravy, bacon, eggs, tortillas, beans, boneless wings, etc. There was something on the brunch menu for everyone. It was all delicious. We also ordered a bottle of sparkling rosé that I must say was pretty expensive. We were told that the bottle was $45 but our bill stated $54. The drag entertainment was fabulous. It did not disappoint at all. The Queens were all glamorous and their upbeat and feisty personality showed in their performances. It was a fun time. The staff was all friendly and nice. Another thing that was slightly disappointing was that they allowed dogs inside of the show/brunch area. And I am all for dogs being out; however, this environment seemed inappropriate for them especially when they started peeing right in front of you as you ate your brunch, steps away from the buffet. This review is solely based on their drag brunch. While on girls trip, we made a reservation a few weeks out for their drag brunch. We had SO MUCH FUN. I've seen quite a few shows, but these drag queens brought it. They were amazing. There were four of them and they each did two sets. It's also super convenient they have someone walking around to make change for you so you can tip them. The service was great. Our waitress had good drink recommendations and was very attentive. The crowd had good energy and they got the dads involved since it was Father's Day, which was hilarious. They also had shade covers on the patio, which is desperately needed in this heat so I was thankful for that. The only cons - I didn't feel like the carafe of drinks had any alcohol in it. I tend to be a lightweight and after about 4 glasses of mimosas and sangria, I hardly felt a buzz. Maybe go with something more straight up. The buffet items were hit or miss. Thankfully, they had a lot of options. The fruit, French toast, and empanadas were really good. The bacon was really soggy. Other items were just ok. Overall, worth the $25 ticket that included the brunch and drag show. We'd definitely go back! read more

Can you give less than 1 star? Where to start..... The service was a bit slow, but they were extremely busy. So I won't hold that against our waitress. And she was nice and pleasant. We had a diet sensitive person with us and we inquired if she could order something a la carte. Our waitress thought we probably could and wanted to verify with her manager first. When she came back she said she was told it was the buffet or nothing. So one person at our table didn't get to eat at all. At least we weren't charged the $25 for her. The bus lady was probably the most efficient worker in the place. I saw her clearing tables within a couple of minutes of people finishing their plate. Promote her to management. She clearly understands how to make an experience worth the cost. Beverages.....we had a reservation for 5 people. Horrible seats in the alley between the 2 houses. Ok, fine. I am guessing we might have been able to request a better table at reservation time, if available. Our table was setup and an ice cold carafe of water was ready for us. However, there was not enough water to serve our entire table. Maybe leave 2 carafes for tables of 4 or more people??? Now we are in the South. In Texas. Who doesn't serve Iced Tea?!?! So I ordered a soda, which I never drink. An ice cold coke sounded good.....it was cold-ish but no ice. So we had to ask for ice, first asking if they were out. Our waitress said they had ice and did bring us a couple of cups full. Payment.....they take your credit card when you order and return it with your check at the end of the meal. Ever hear of security? Our waitress had probably close to 20 cards in her check book. You know there are restaurant POS machines that you swipe the card as a pre-auth and immediately return the card to the customer. Completely PCI compliant. I have no reason not to trust our waitress, but if there is fraud or duplicate charges on my card I wouldn't be surprised. It is not a very efficient system in place there. What happens if someone snaps a pic of a card the staff is carrying around? That's your fault! There is an auto-gratuity regardless of table size. Best I can understand the receipt is if you are a table of 6 or more, auto 20%. Ok, somewhat standard but usually with a higher guest count. However, we were still charged for a table of 4..... The Sunday buffet is a complete joke! Actually that is a huge understatement. We went through the buffet twice and both times there was maybe a quarter of the food offered actually available. See my menu pic with the items that weren't available. The food that was available was not even close to being worth $25. All frozen or canned foods. Nothing fresh at all. The bowl of "fresh fruit" actually had a torn piece of the frozen fruit bag in the bowl. I had asked for more pico de gallo and the attendant pointed to the empty bowl. Um, ok. The Filipino gravy resembled my 11 month old niece's diaper. Needless to say I didn't try it. Maybe it was tasty but presentation is everything. I get you can't please everyone with a buffet. From what I saw and heard from other customers you didn't please anyone. The huge fries dish kept coming out to tables so I guess that is the crowd pleaser. I'll never find out as I don't see myself returning. read more

I just went last night for my birthday! I get their newsletter and they sent me a message to come in for a bottle of wine and piece of cheesecake on them! I come here occasionally for my internations group socials as well- excellent experience! I have been to the drag show brunch as well -fantastic! Words can't fully express how amazing of a time I had here during my virgin drag brunch. When my party and I finally arrived there was a line to get to the back where the show was being held but they checked everyone in quickly. Seating outside, next to fans so the weather was never an issue. Our brunch came with an inclusive buffet, to which everything I personally had was amazing. SO many food options to choose from! Show started around 3ish and i literally had an ultimate ball. All the queens, the ATTITUDE, the GAG. I even bought a cute fan!! You're able to give tips to the performers, however they don't have an ATM on site but if you do need change thats made readily available. The servers were nice as well, explaining how tabs worked and the drink menu. It is pricey, but the experience makes it well spent. DEFINITELY coming back! read more
