This is a trendy spot for drinks and fresh pizza in cape may. The place in the basement of the Congress hall hotel dining area but decorated super speakeasy like and full of awesome energy with the ovens and bar serving as the focal pieces in the dark lit room with TVs surrounding the bar area for sports. The menu was small but an obvious choice to go with pizza since that's what they're known for here anyway! We got the pepperoni which was crisped up just right.. it was a pie on the saucier side, but that's what I like so no complaints! I also had the burrata salad which was clearly made with fresh ingredients- tomatoes were so juicy and sweet! The burrata itself wasn't too creamy, but still a good choice read more

If there was such a thing as a "speak easy pizza bar", this place would be it! We got two pizzas, the Berkshire (bottom) and the Soppressata (top). Both were good, but the Soppressata with the white truffle oil was the winner. The larger pies are perfect to split with another person without feeling overly full. The boiler room is a cool ambiance and a relaxed spot within the high end luxury of Congress Hall. The servings are huge and splitting a pizza and salad were perfect if not too much food. Salad was great, pizza was average. One of my favorite things to do there is to watch sports and was disappointed that there were 10 or so TVs and they told us they all had to stay on the same game all night. The wait was 45 minutes after be told it would be 20; not the biggest deal however there were open, set tables we were the told the manager was holding. We went there to listen to the live band. The atmosphere is electric and the band was fun and lively! We danced and sang and had a blast! We came in for dinner around 8. The hostess said the kitchen was closing in 10 mins so we had to sit at the bar and order immediately. My friend and I ordered a margarita pizza to split. This place holds such promise for a good time in this quaint little beach town but greed sours the experience. The set up is fun, going downstairs, thumping dance club, nice bar situation, (DJ could have been better, not a fan of of just any song mixed with a techno beat , just play some dance music otherwise it all sounds the same) but the bartenders are thieves, maybe not all but at least one and where is a manager to oversee the place? Drinks are ridiculously expensive but worse, prices vary according to bartender. For us, on the same night, same drink order, 2 gin (well) and tonics ( in a plastic cup no less) done by 2 different bartenders a male and a female on Thursday 8/3, one cost $26 and the other $37. How??? Or rather WHY??? We had the same person in our group place both orders . Then the female bartender who charged the higher price later wanted to charge $22 for 2 beers on tap!! We had been dancing, having a good time but when we realized we were being gouged we left. We really like the setting of Boiler Room but we won't be hanging there again and we certainly will not drinking there, not with being so blatantly ripped off. So many great times at the boiler room! Awesome atmosphere. The crowd is usually pretty mixed. Seems like a locals spot as well as a tourist hang out, all looking to have a good time. There's always a DJ or live band on the weekends and they've been quality almost every time I go. This is one of very few places I'll actually dance voluntarily with my wife and friends. Sometimes they have acts that cater to an older crowd, but if the music isn't for you there's plenty of other options nearby, but I would try back asap. Drinks are a little pricey, but that's Congress Hall for you and Cape May in general. The star here though really is the pizza. To get to snack on delicious pizza while listing to live music in the basement of the best hotel in Cape May is something quite special. We loved the sopressata & capicola, the berkshire, margherita, and smoked pulled bbq. Still have a few to try, but they're all delightful. If you're looking for a good time out with friends or a nice place to go during a night out with your significant other, this is a really fun option where you can drink, dance, relax, and have some good food. Continuing our stay in Cape May we rejected for dinner a somewhat pretentious place with a shitty vibe, even though good Yelp reviews. We noticed that we were practically next door to the Boiler Room. "Let's try it." Located downstairs in Congress Hall, it's part of a collection of stores and attractions, headlined by a high end resort hotel. Built 200 years ago it's housed a few dignitaries over the years including our 18th president, US Grant. The Boiler Room is located downstairs. We immediately got seats at the bar and felt welcome right away. Bob looked like he'd be better suited to be a NFL defensive lineman than our bartender, but treated us right and seems like a great guy. We ordered beers from Cape May and Bob asked if we wanted to see a pizza menu. Pizza suited us fine so I don't know if they serve anything else. I'm guessing not. We split a Capriccio salad that was so fresh tasting, with fresh mozzarella, basil, & tomatoes and drizzled with balsamic. They serve 7"-12" thin crust pizzas. Speakeasy-ish spot in CM. You need to go through Congress Hall and down the stairs in order to enter. It's dark and can get a little loud...perfectly to bring my little one! We needed to flag down a host and were seated promptly near the pizza oven. It's definitely a good spot to grab a drank as it becomes a lounge later in the evening and they have a big bar in the middle of the place. Their craft beer selection is about 6 on draft. Don't expect a big menu...pizza and salads (2). We started and split their Seasonal Farm Salad. We each ordered a 7 inch pie which is a perfect size if you expect to get dessert...which I recommend you save room for. Recommendation: Berkshire - Fontina and Ricotta cheese, sautéed seasonal greens, caramelized onions, wood fire roasted wild mushrooms, sliced smoked ham, white truffle oil Smokey Pulled BBQ - House made BBQ sauce, Beach Plum Farm hickory smoked pulled pork, shaved red onion, sliced spicy serrano peppers, cheddar cheese, fresh cilantro Both were flavorful! We decided to try put the pizza here since we both enjoy Neapolitan pizza and are big fans of all the Cape Resorts restaurants. The décor is unchanged from before, exposed brick and beams, subdued lighting and stainless pub table. We took a seat across from the bar and attempted to order beers. The first one the wife selected was out and the second one she picked was down to the last can. I went with an Allagash which they thankfully were not out of. We opted for two pizzas, the prosciutto and arugula and the garden vegetable. We were not impressed with either. The prosciutto was cooked on the pizza which causes the fat to render out leaving a salty, crunchy remnant that marred the sweetness of the tomatoes. The vegetable pizza was lacking in flavor, it could have used some salt, and the mix of vegetables, potatoes and squash, was not the seasonal toppings I would have offered. The largest disappointment was the dough which lacked the sourdough undercurrent that all good Neapolitan pizzas carry. It was also somewhat flat and lacked the toothsomeness that a well proofed, high-hydration dough offers when cooked in a wood-fired oven. There would need to be some significant improvement for us to return here for pizza. read more

We've been wanting to try the Boiler Room since we visited last March, but it was closed during the week. We finally went on a Sunday in December. So sad to say we were disappointed. There was no hostess in sight so we waited 15 minutes to even put our name down. Why don't they take reservations?! They were clearly understaffed and it took 10 minutes for anyone to even come give us water. We started off with a Caesar salad which had barely any dressing. It was totally dry. Had to eat it like that for 10 minutes before a server came back for us to ask for more dressing. The truffle potato wedges literally had no truffle oil. I love truffle oil and the smell and taste was missing completely. We got the margherita pizza. The sauce was good but the dough was pretty tasteless. Desperately needed salt. Ambiance is cool and the concept of the space is fun, but I expected more from food in Congress Hall. read more

This is usually a go-to place for me but Saturday 10/9 it was a zero! I thought it might be a good spot to grab some great food and watch some college football. Literally no aspect of the visit was good. Sat at the table and it was cleared but the table was dirty (figures out after my arms hit it. The drinks took about 15 minutes to get (after the salads). And the Arugula and prosciutto pizza was a disaster. Almost no arugula and it looked and tasted like it was reheated. As far as temp- it was cold. In summary- service terrible and food terrible. It has not been my past experience here but something is very wrong now! read more

This place is super Luke warm. Came here once with a party of 7 on a packed night. Service was fantastic, food and drinks came out so fast. Then we came here on a super slow night with a party of 4. Service was okay. But it took us 40 minutes to get our pizzas. It's not horrible, cause the pizzas were worth it. It's just a hit or miss kind of place. This is one of our go to spots in CM for dinner and it has been consistently great every time. The menu is very simple-mainly just salads and BOP. (BOP=brick oven pizza) The Sopresetta and Capicola (gabagool) pizza is explosive in flavor. It has goat cheese which is a type of cheese made from a goat. Can you believe? Cheese coming out of a goat! But it's real good. Listen to this though: there's a fig balsamic spread on it too. The pizzas come out fast and hot. I always burn my mouth on them because I can't help myself from gobbling it down like a gremlin. You're gonna see the truffle wedges on the menu and think to yourself: "...pfft...truffle flavor is so 2013-2015" However, these are charred up in the hot brick oven and are served in a little skillet. Wonderfully done. I would say the prices here are lower than the majority of dinner spots in CM and there is rarely much of a wait. If you're looking for a nice view of the beach I can't recommend this spot because it is in a basement. Sometimes it's nice to cut yourself off from the harsh sun and brutal reality to seclude yourself in a basement and eat BOP while slamming delicious margaritas until you forget that our planet is dying and Democracy is ripping apart at the seams right before our very eyes. read more

Just ate at The Boiler Room which is in the basement of Congress Hotel. Being in the basement may not seem like the place you'd want to be but it should be because The Boiler Room is a great spot to eat at. All walls are either exposed stone or exposed brick. And it's real stone and brick not faux. Dark but light enough to to see, enough televisions to have a sports bar vibe. At some point they have a band play but not when we were there. We started with Margaritas which were tasty. Good amount of alcohol but not too much as to get in the way of the drinks taste. From there we each got a salad, my wife's salad had blueberries and strawberries in with the greens. Mine was a Caesar salad with anchovies. Both were good, fresh, didn't seem pre made. And we shared a Margarita pie. It was tasty but I prefer a thicker pizza, my wife likes thin crust. We've known The Boiler Room was there, we've stayed at Congress Hall, we've eaten at The Blue Pig Tavern many, many times and, yes we've drank at The Brown Room. For some reason we always thought The Boiler Room was more of a late night place. It may be that too but it's an excellent place for dinner too. read more

We got the Smokey Pulled BBQ and it was delicious! Our waitress said the chef was testing out a new sauce and it was amazing! Please keep it. By far the best pizza we've had in Cape May. We also loved that there are televisions all around so no matter where you sit, you can watch the games. Santa also made an appearance. read more

My Fiancé and I went to The Boiler Room, which is in the basement of The Congress Hall Hotel, where we recently stayed. We went to this cool speakeasy bar, which was built during the prohibition era, on a Thursday night. We had a lovely waitress and had a very enjoyable time here. The menu is limited, but we enjoyed the pepperoni and the Marguerite pizzas and the salad. We had the chocolate martini and another specialty drink and really enjoyed them. There was Karaoke with a live band there that night and my Fiancé sang with them and had an awesome experience. We tried to go back on the weekend, but there were way too many people to get in. I would recommend this place, but not on a holiday weekend. read more

Stopped in to another place for dinner while on vacation where my husband & I both got a very bad vibe. We walked out & found this place. We found the Boiler Room, inside the Congress Hall Hotel (courtesy of Yelp), which we happened to be parked in front of. The Congress Hotel was quite impressive & this time of year they had a carousal on the grounds, Christmas music & Santa. The kids were having a blast! We were a little skeptical when we walked inside & saw a very nice old hotel, completely decorated, with staff dressed as elves. We asked about the Boiler Room & were told it was down stairs (yes, makes sense). Entering the bar we found a very comfortable atmosphere, fairly empty bar, & sat down. Bob, our bartender, was very personable & friendly. What a difference a block makes! Apparently the Boiler Room does primarily brick oven pizzas, not a problem considering we both LOVE pizza! We started with sharing a capriccio salad which was delicious! I ordered the Berkshire, wild mushrooms, smoked ham, greens & caramelized onions, very tasty! Hubby ordered the Sopressata & Capicola, which was even better with balsamic, red onion & goat cheese on it. The atmosphere was terrific, patrons & staff were very friendly, & we were glad we found the place! We had a great time, & great dinner & would recommend it to anyone. Spent some time here last March to watch some Irish rock, and this March, we were in town during singer-songwriter weekend. Can't think of a cooler place in Cape May to see some music...makes you feel as if you are in the basement of some NYC nightclub. Music is close and loud, crowd is 30 and up, and they just added a brick-oven pizza station to the bar. A must-visit if you are coming to CM and want to tour the nightlife! read more
