The egg rolls were salty and had too much going on. Tasted like it was dipped in soy sauce then fried. The shrimp and scallop wontons and sticky wings were the o my two I really enjoyed. First of all, the Grinch pop up going on right now is awesome. The lights and decorations and festive drinks make for a great atmosphere. It was pretty busy for a Wednesday night, for a table of three we waited about 30 min to be seated and the food took another 30 minutes once we ordered. The staff are friendly and our waitress was nice. I got the pho and really enjoyed it, it was flavorful and was a pretty big portion. The prices here are also very reasonable. I also got one of the Christmas drinks that has marshmallow infused vodka with coffee and Kahlua which was delicious. I used yelp reviews to find this place and I am so happy I went! there for dinner. I sat at the bar and ordered an old fashion made with walnut bitters. I am absolutely switching my orange to walnut for the future. It was a nice smooth blend and took some of the bite away. It was a Monday so I tried the special $5 Maki rolls. I ordered a Tuna, a Spicy Tuna and a Salmon donut. I really enjoyed the maki roll. They are filling and have a nice flavor and crunch to them. The salmon donut is a fun concept, tasted great but was physically difficult to eat. I also ordered a bowl of miso soup because it has so many healthy benefits. It was good but I prefer a lighter broth. The decor is really fun inside the establishment is clean and busy! The hostess and bartender were very friendly and I would suggest checking this place out. I came here for Mother's Day and it turned out to be excellent. We went right in to be seated because of the reservation. I am happy to not having to wait. I like the graffiti's and the fortune cat decoration. I grew up in Asia so I cannot say the food was authentic but definitely flavorful. We ordered sticky wings, veggie egg rolls, cucumber and seaweed salad, edamame, and the most impressive is actually the Thai noodles with scallops. The scallops were small but there were a lot of it. I am so happy Boku Kitchen and Saloon came across my feed through Restaurant Week Columbia. Located on Gervais St. There is parking on the side, shared by other places. The first thing I noticed, was the bright green paint, that grabbed my attention. Then coming inside, wow! The vibe, the music, the decor, the energy, captivated me. I was promptly seated. Kudos to Lauren, who carded me, when I ordered the Tiki Smash. Such an honor and right thing to do. The cocktail, coconut rum, mint, strawberry. Just delicious. I wanted to order the Hong Kong short ribs, they were out. The Szechuan green beans, were. AWESOME. My friend and I had these comments: Szechuan Green Beans - Awesome. Yes, both of us, spot on. The cucumber tomato salad - No. She didn't care for it. According to her, there wasn't ruffage. She couldn't taste the vinaigrette. The Bao buns, while presented beautiful, to both of us, where bland. They would have been better with rock salt to bring out the flavors. The Wonton Soup - Umami at its best. The garlic noodles, good. I added chili sauce to them, that for my palate made the garlic more pronounced. The Black Tea marinated fish was flaky. I added chili sauce. The flavors were delicate. Ok..so I have only been here for Haopy Hour but lemme just say...it's a really good Happy Hour with daily drink specials. Tuesdays are Tito's Tuesdays with $5.00 Tito's vodka drinks along with $5.00 appetizers. Wednesdays are whiskey Wednesdays (my favorite day for whiskey!), and I can attest to the fabulous Manhattans that these nice ladies at the bar mix up for the crowd. The crowd has a good Happy Hour vibe. The Statehouse crowd slides in during legislative session so there's that. Suggestions for apps include the Potstickers which were excellent, the Vietnamese Spring Rolls, (although theirs are served cold instead of warm which threw me for bit), but the Crab Rangoons which were the bomb...they had spicy sauce, were nicely fried and had ample filling. I would also suggest the Tempura Green Beans! These are really addictive! Also..the calamari was nice & the tempura light with a nice dipping sauce. We will definitely be putting this on the "Hit Often" list especially for Happy Hour but will update once I experience lunch or dinner! read more

We unfortunately made the decision to patronize Boku on 02/05 for lunch with an expectation of ordering Dim Sum as their website and even menu suggested. I will start with the positive. We had ample time for conversation as it took over 30 minutes to receive beverages and 1+ hours to receive food in an uncrowded restaurant. We did not have to worry about choosing what Dim Sum to order because it is not offered. They have appetizers / tapas that they refer to as Dim Sum, but none of the offerings are traditional Dim Sum. We did have a mutual topic to discuss, which was the rude service - manager and server. We didn't have to debate the quality of the food, as we all agreed that our orders (most of the 'dim sum' menu) was absolutely tasteless or worse. We did not realize the impressiveness of their chief accomplishment displayed proudly on their window for all to see. THEY HAVE A FOOD GRADE OF "B" NEEDS IMPROVEMENT. That is quite difficult to achieve. In summary, do not set foot in this establishment. Save your taste buds, mental stamina and possible health. read more

It's was so bad they didn't even want to take it home. Beware and stay away. For the prices they charge the food is not worth it. Came in the day after thanksgiving to celebrate an anniversary and we were refused service because of our IDs looked fake yet we asked them to do a scan test or light test and they refused and wouldn't give us any reason as why. So I've been here three times and figured it was a fair amount of experiences to write a review. My friends told me to give this place a try and my first experience was okay, so I gave it two more tries. Needless to say I never went back. So why do I think this place is a 2 star? Granted my ratings are a bit picky, but the biggest common denominator to why I didn't want to go back was the wait time on food. Of all my trips there, we were seated right away. The staff were friendly and we were able to order our food at a decent time. The biggest confusion was how our orders took so long; long meaning I've up to 40 minutes without the restaurant looking too crowded. Then on top of my order being late and we had to pack up and to go it because we didn't have enough time to eat, the waitress messed up our check which took management to fix. So how was the food? For Asian fusion in South Carolina, it was simply okay. Okay and over priced isn't a good combination. There's other places I think was worth the buck more such as 929kitchen (they over priced too) or craving Asian food for a fair price with taste? There is JJ tea house or Menkoi ramen. The ambiance was the same as any restaurant. Packed with families, friends, people on dates chatting away at their seats or at the bar. Parking is street only and those that have traveled around Gervais street know that can be a hassle. This is all my personal experience; I'd encourage you all to try this place out and share your thoughts if craving Asian fusion. Good luck! read more

Starting with the service, I had to go to the wait staff's station to ask the waiter to bring us menus and take our order. Ditto for my beverage, meaning i had to get up, go to the waiter and ask, "Where is it?" The food was mediocre, a cut above blah. I had the Pad Thai noodles: tasteless and lush, as in overflowing, with so-called garlic oil. My wife had veggies: ditto, again, on the oil and flavor. The best i can do is two stars... and that, IMHO, is generous. read more

Disclaimer: was takeout. No idea what the inside is or service or how clean their bathrooms are, lol. My husband got the honey chicken, and OOH! It was so good. Tad on the salty side, but I could have managed if they gave a little more rice. And by a little, I mean a lot. I'm also very rice-biased (I'm filipino. We love rice). The honey chicken was crispy with this amazing, umami, sweet and salty glaze. And I'm normally not a fan of bell pepper but they complemented the meat surprisingly well. And my husband's portion was like half a chicken, it was awesome. He got me the char sui noodles. I mean, it was good. But the flavor paled in comparison to the honey chicken. I want to go back, order the honey chicken, and order extra rice so I can eat all that delicious umami-ness up....hoping to go to Columbia again soon! read more

We have gone twice and gotten the garlic noodles, char siu noodles, Hong Kong ribs, crab Rangoon, spring rolls, tempura green beans and cobia. The tempura green beans and ribs were great. Everything else ranged from mediocre to downright weird. The garlic noodles were way too sour. The cobia is underwhelming. The spring rolls were small and bland. The Char Siu noodles came in watery broth and the pork tasted more like a pork chop than char siu pork.
