They served me actual salty rice soup. It didnt even taste like food. It was a gelatenous goopy mess, more similar to mashed potatos than rice. It wasn't even seasoned. It's supposed to be morracan basmati rice. The pork was burned and unsavory. For $12 (large bowl), this is unacceptable. You cant charge people that much money for food that is disgusting, especially a repeat customer who knows the food standards can be amazing. On another occasion, they simply ran out of rice, and told us it'd be 20 minutes for rice. We came back half hour later to find they hadn't even started cooking the rice, that it would be 45 minutes. The food is great when it matches bolay standards, but the consistency just isnt there. And I'm not willing to risk $12 for a chance to get mashed goopy poop rice. read more

I eat AIP-Paleo and there's few places in town that can truly cater to that, but this place does! The small bowl is 7.99 but is actually the same amount of food that the large has, just not as many options (1 base, 2 veggies, 1 protein, 1 sauce) they also have several healthy beverage options ranging from kombucha to Stubborn soda and several tea options (including sugar free). This place is on the fence for me. While I should love it because everything is gluten free, it's just not my favorite. I think everything is pretty good individually, but when it's all mixed together in a bowl it seems to lose its flavor profile. It's hard to make 5 different flavors mix together and I wish there was a way to separate out the individual ingredients better. Next time I will try to just pick 1 item from each category and see if I like it better. The whole bowl just gets too saucy for me when you pack all those ingredients together. I was so surprised by how much I loved this place. The food is honestly so good. Every time I come here I get the kale salad with potatoes and barbecue chicken which are all my favorites. The portions are generous but to be honest, whenever I get the kale salad I never stay full for long. Obviously if you switch that out for carbs that changes things but the salad is so delicious I never mind. It's a chipotle style restaurant so you go down the line and pick from their different options. They also have different sized bowls so you can pick how much food you want. This place is also so clean. Everything is white and the menus are on big screen TVs. It is kind of pricey overall so I can't go here as often as I like but it is a great healthy treat. I stopped in to Bolay while in town on business and was pleasantly surprised. The sweet potato noodles were a tasty base for the spicy shrimp, balsamic mushrooms, and broccoli. I didn't care so much for the minted tomatoes, but there was a nice mix of options available so I'll try something else next time. The restaurant was clean and modern. I usually order the small bowl, with half quinoa, and half cilantro noodles. For the veggies, the brussels sprouts are always good, as well as the broccoli and green beans. The miso tofu and lemon chicken are also good proteins to try. I always used to get their "Thai Bowl" but they took off the pre-made bowls from their menu; but I memorized what's in it so I can still enjoy that or customize to my liking. everything I have tried has been good; I really love their sweet potato noodles and cilantro noodles, their lemon chicken and teriyaki is good, they used to have the BEST pork, now they changed it to something different which is still yummy but not as good. Their veggies are always on point; love the broccoli, Brussel sprouts and green beans, and they switch them out depending on season. The thai sauce is spicy and sweet and so yummy and the pesto sauce also yummy. The staff are nice and quick, and the big bowl is $10 so a little on the pricier side but it can last two meals if you're not as hungry, but also its so wholesome it can fill you up. Bolay is a vibrant restaurant with beautiful teal blue throughout that serves fresh food and the food looks fantastic. It's a happening spot where the patrons are intentional about creating their delicious healthy meal bowls. Everything I selected to make my meal bowl enjoyable came with a deep up charge. Items like shrimp, avocado and ahi tuna ran my bill up to $17 dollars and change and that's without a drink. After I ate all the good stuff out of my bowl it wasn't fun anymore. I felt like I was eating cud toward the end of my bowl. I didn't select the right sauce and asked for different sauces to no avail. I should have tasted the sauces. Excellent!! Food is DELICIOUS every single time. I am amazed that all of the options go together and are so fresh. My 7 year old daughter and I both have celiac disease and struggle at times with finding places to go (especially for her) that will accommodate gluten free. Both of my kids get excited to go, which is a huge plus since they get a good amount of veggies and protein. The staff couldn't be nicer, seriously the nicest people work there! I heard about this place from my brother who is currently living in Gainesville. I was immediately impressed by how clean, upscale and modern the interior looked. My brother and I were greeted promptly by the wait staff and proceeded to the line. The menu was very simple to follow and there were a fair amount of options to choose from to customize the bowl in terms of bases, vegetables, proteins and sauces. I also liked how they had re-usable bowls to place the food in, as I feel they are mindful of the environmental impact. I also liked how they let me try any of the food items before I made my choices, which is great for first-timers like myself. I had the large bowl, which is great if you are really hungry and want to choose more bases, vegetables and proteins for your bowl. Overall, I liked how presentable the restaurant and food were and how nice and prompt the wait staff were. Not to mention the food was fresh and tasted great!
