As a college student I struggled a lot with finding healthy food that was convenient and in my price range. This is by far the best place to come to on a budget and the food tastes amazing. The owner and the people working here are super friendly. The environment is nice and peaceful. I come out to lunch here everyday. I went with my daughter for lunch and had two of their bowls that already have their combo posted. It's a bit like the cafeteria line a long the idea of places like the nose or even subway in that you move along pick out selections to add to your place. Bolay is a really tasty option if you're gluten free/dairy free! I am gluten intolerant and allergic to dairy, so this restaurant is such a relief to eat at. The staff was really nice and knowledgeable about the food as well, so if you were sure if you could eat something, they'd find out for you. At first i thought that i was paying too much for this little bowl of food. $7.99 for the small size bowl, you get 1 base, 2 veggies, 1 protein, 1 add on, sauce it up. But, quality over quantity. I am addicted to the sweet potato noodles. Gluten free foods. Everything is healthy with flavor. Magically all of the foods taste great in every combination; trust me I've tried them all. It's ok. Pretty healthy eating. Be prepare for the upsalw at every station. There are 4 stops to build your bowl of food,at each station there are about 5 choices and at least two.of the are upsalw. Like shrimp,Alvacado and some of the rice selections. All on all my meal with drink was $15. Had I picked an upsale item at each station my meal could have cost $22. However, for a "kid friendly" and "good for children" place, it doesn't have changing tables in the bathrooms (at least not inside the one I walked in, there's only 2 unisex restrooms and the other one was occupied). With a two year old and a one year old is kinda hard to do diaper changes without one. I just don't understand places that don't offer that in the bathrooms. Food is a little pricey but very delicious. I come here when I feel like eating healthily. I love the cilantro noodles a lot and all their veggies are flavorful. Bolay recently opened up in Gainesville and I have heard good things so I decided to go. I went around 6:30pm on a Wednesday several weeks after it opened thinking it would have worked out the kinks. I was proved wrong when I came in and most of their pans were empty. I ordered the large Thai bowl to go and the person in front of me ordered the large Thai bowl to eat in. As they were filling his bowl it was larger than the to go bowl so they added way more veggies for him. Whereas I only got one scoop for a to go bowl, which I understand why so it wouldn't spill over but why weren't both bowls equal? They also kept running out of veggies and I had to wait. It didn't seem like it was too organized and the people on the line kept mixing up which bowl was which. I would have also preferred a bowl that didn't have as much protein or bases if that meant more veggies. I ordered my Thai bowl with the shrimp but didn't realize it also had chicken which was overwhelming. I also added avocado for $1.50 and could have just did that at home for cheaper. I paid $14 for a bowl and didn't get as much as the guy in front of me. It was clean, they were nice, but the bowl was overpriced and it was significantly smaller than eating in the restaurant. This place is similar to Vale or Grill Fresh in Gainesville and I prefer Grill Fresh. Everything tasted OK but it wasn't worth the price and at other places there are more options, especially for warm bases. I would go back if it was for a specific reason with other people but if it were any average day and I had a choice to go elsewhere, I would take it. read more

Bolay used to be one of my favorite restaurants but as of late, I'm not sure I'll be visiting very regularly anymore. The options for vegetarians/ vegans have dwindled and are now more expensive. The add-on tomatoes and carrot ginger sauce are no longer available, the spicy Thai sauce is no longer vegetarian (it now contains shellfish), and the tofu is now $1 extra. The restaurant also closes earlier and it's extremely difficult to make it there by 8pm; I've seen dozens of people turned away. All of these changes have made it less likely that I'll continue to be a regular at Bolay going forward. read more

I love everything about Bolay! I ended up getting a small bowl with cilantro noodles, brussel sprouts, sweet potato, lemon chicken, parmesan, and cilantro pesto sauce. Everything was well seasoned, had great flavor, and was cooked to perfection! Bolay also features a line of sodas at their soda fountain that has no high fructose corn syrup which I really appreciated. The pineapple cream soda was delicious and the perfect compliment to my savory cilantro noodle bowl. First time eating here and I am impressed! I like it better than Vale. I am told they don't vary their selections like Vale does and I'm fine with that. The Forbidden Black Rice is soooooo flavorful. They cook it with coconut milk and ginger and Asian spices (I asked). I got a small bowl and it was the perfect size for lunch. I got the sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts, and the miso glazed tofu. The sweet potatoes were soft and had great flavor that mixed well with the rest of my bowl. The tofu straight up tasted like chicken. I think because of the way it was cooked.
