WOOT WOOT THATS THE SOUND OF SOME GOOD FOOD!!!!! Roots is such a loving place. We came here for a little date night before realizing we really wanted to watch love island (lol). We started off with their Panner Masala Fries and was YUMMM soo good. Before it even entered your mouth you could inhale its mighty goodness. At this point we realized we wanted some more to go and it was SOOOOO YUMMYY!!!! Masana was our server and we thank her for such a wonderful experience. She was so kind, so down to earth, and so funny! If you have her as your server you are in top ten care!

Went here after wanting to try it for ages. The place is small and cozy and I love the way it's decorated, colorful with an LA vibe. The manager and I think maybe the owner? Greeted us immediately and acknowledged our reservation. The place was slammed but they seated us within about 10 minutes. It took a while to get service once seated but we ending up having the manager wait on us and he was so kind and friendly, all the staff were! We ordered a bunch of food and everything was truly delicious. I would order every single thing again. My favorite was the Chana chalupa because it was so unique and the mixture of the sauces on top was superb. I love mint chutney and theirs was excellent. The dosa quesadilla was also a standout because it was something I've never had before. But honestly everything was good. They also gave us a little parting gift which I think is a dessert, and wrote a little note which is so cute. And free little donuts which were also amazing. If you've seen this place on instagram it definitely lives up to the hype. I will go back but with more people so we can order even more!

    Curry Fun

My partner and I got the Curry Fun entreés which offered really tasty variety of the curries and came with raita (yogurt), basmati rice, and naan. It was really delicious and actually had a spicy spice level. I was disappointed that the portions weren't consistent--my partner had much more of the chicken curry while my portion was much less despite ordering the same thing. Also, their naan was really disappointing. It was super thick and doughy. I'd avoid getting their naan again in the future if possible, which is a bummer because I love ordering naan usually. Overall, their Curry Fun is great to order for the price, but the consistency and naan could use some improvements.

This might be one of the funnest and most lively Indian joints I've stepped foot in. The energy is electric and super endearing thanks for the funny personalities of everyone who works there. Both the owner and waitress joked with us at our table as they made the rounds to make sure our food was incredible. Talk about being seen and made to feel like you're a special guest. The food is absolutely incredible which explains the line that can pop up out of nowhere. The complimentary dessert that our server gave us was a nice touch to an already fun and tasty evening. What was my favorite? I think it's a tie between the butter chicken and lamb. Try both.

every single item we ordered was delicious, service was 11/10. We had high expectations and that didn't keep them from being blown us outta the water. Thank you, we will be back!

We ended up here becoz we were in the area and were starving. There was bit of a wait to get a table so my son wanted to leave but we figured if we go somewhere else it would be same amount of time. Well...good thing we waited becoz starting from our host Anmol and ending with Mansa who gave us our check, the whole experience was wonderful. The service was excellent. The food was delicious and arrived hot!! That's how I like my Indian food- yummy and hot off the stove! We liked the variety of fusion style food they offer. We had masala fries, gol gappa, onion pakora, dhosa quesadilla, nirvana curry and cheese naan. All of it was good. The ambiance is pleasant, simple and clean. I will def. Go back to try other foods on the menu. They even gave a to go Kheer box with our names on it. How sweet!!

Fantastic and unique Indian fusion cuisine! Roots is a must-visit! We stopped by Roots for dinner on a Thursday and had an incredible experience! The interior is very modern and artsy. Our server Veer was very friendly, welcoming, and attentive! Apps: Mac & Cheese Pakoras and Paneer Masala Fries - WOW! Both were packed with flavor and beyond delicious. The pakoras were perfectly crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. 10/10 Mains: Dosa Quesadilla, Butter Paneer, Verde Enchiladas - the dosa and enchiladas were incredibly unique! I loved how thin and crispy the dosa was and the enchiladas were so saucy with the perfect hint of spice! The paneer was also fantastic! Veer brought us some gulab jamun on the house to end our meal which was so nice! Can't wait to come back!

I visited this restaurant to see if these 5 star reviews were up to my standards. Indian cuisine is definitely on my top 10. I really thought I was in for a treat. Unlike the next door yellow restaurant, this was quieter, you can hear yourself talking without yelling. They have a nice little outdoor sitting area. Unfortunately, that's where everything good ends. I ordered several dishes and for an Indian restaurant the dishes were either on the sweet side or had an inexplicable taste. Customer service: The gentleman behind the register came and explained the dishes to me, we had a great exchange. He suggested that I was ordering a lot of foods for one person. However, the lady was a bit rough. She snatched the bank card out of hand before I can place it on table. Then came around and shoved it right back at me. Anyhow, the food is mainly my focal point, customer service is an added bonus, not a deal breaker for me. Samosas: Boy bye I had had way better in the frozen section at Trader's Joe. Both chicken dishes were lackluster, the green sauce is not spicy nor add any flavor to the dishes. The Chana Chalupa is decent. The fun dish is good and recommended. Overall this is a place to go if you wanna sit outside and eat Chana Chalupa. If you want good chicken Marsala, Trader's Joe got a really good one that is 20,000,000 times better. This restaurant is all bitter Roots no Indian and no Bistro. Maybe I tried the wrong dishes.

This place is worth the hype and then some. Very flavorful. Great service! Our waitress was so attentive. Look at her sweet note :) The ambiance is a fusion of urban culture and Indian culture. That feeling you get as a LA native when you know someone has fused their culture with LA, and you aren't sure of the exact blend because it's a bit of everything, yet it varies uniquely to the soul of the owners and those who work here? We got the Chicken tiki marsala because of course with did so fresh so creamy and vibebratz Aloo Goobi is so earthy and full of spices Lamb Korma Alfredo is off the menu, but it's creamy and full of spices. Yummy!!! Garlic naan and rice are yummy The gulab jamun and the rice pudding are a must-get. Syrupy and texturally great, clean Platte finisher

I love a small business! And when you're at Roots, you feel like family! The ambiance in this restaurant is so cute. The designs on the walls are eye catching and the delicious smells waft through the air. The menu has a lot to choose from and even has meal deals to get a bit of everything. It's so great being in a restaurant that is accommodating for all allergen and dietary issues. The menu is clearly labeled and there's even vegan options. Manasa is the sweetest waitress and we felt well taken care of all the time. We are absolutely coming back!

From the moment you walk in, the ambience stands out--warm lighting, lanterns on the tables, marigold garlands, and vibrant wall art create an inviting, festive atmosphere that feels perfect for both date nights and group dinners. The food truly delivers. The appetizers were amazing and full of flavors !! The curries were rich, well-spiced, and comforting, with deep flavors that felt homemade rather than overly heavy. The tandoori chicken was perfectly charred and juicy, paired with a fresh, flavorful green chutney. The naan was soft, warm. A special shoutout to the dessert presentation--beautifully plated and celebratory, adding a thoughtful finishing touch to the meal. Service was friendly and attentive, and the overall experience felt relaxed yet elevated. Roots Indian Bistro is absolutely worth a visit. Highly recommend!

What a wonderful restaurant on Melrose! Our lovely waitress Manasa made us feel so welcome for our first visit. The chef stopped by as well to welcome us. We had the Masala fries and Mac & cheese pakora apps. Both delicious. For entrees the Chalupa (incredible!!!) and Nirvana Curry (so rich and exquisite). We can't wait to return!

Not sure why, but since there have been other locations around the LA area over the past several years, maybe they're just moving again. I wish them all the best! To Anwar and staff, thank you for the delicious and healthy food over the years, and for running a tight ship. I hope I see that Wolverine mural pop up somewhere else, soon!

Not…read more"pretty good for takeout," not "good on a lucky day," just genuinely solid every single time. This time, I went with the Anwar Style Chicken Shawarma to try something new. The portion size alone is impressive. The container is packed and feels substantial the moment you pick it up. The base is a bed of fries, and these are not just filler. They are thick, well seasoned, and sturdy enough to handle all the toppings without turning into a soggy mess. On top of the fries is a generous amount of chicken. The chicken tastes freshly cooked, with that warm, savory flavor you expect from good shawarma, never dry and never overly salty. There are pita chips mixed in, which add a great crunch and texture against the fries and chicken. Multiple sauces are drizzled throughout the dish. I chose a side of their spicy sauce. The creamy white sauce balances things out, while the orange sauce brings a mild heat and a little extra depth. None of the sauces overpower the dish, they work together to coat everything evenly and keep every bite flavorful. Diced tomatoes and corn adds a touch of sweetness that surprisingly works really well here. A sprinkle of herbs throughout helps brighten everything up and keeps the dish from feeling too heavy, even though it is definitely filling. This is comfort food done right. It is messy in the best way, packed with flavor, at least to me it was. If you are looking for something hearty, satisfying, and consistently well made, I will always recommend Anwar's Kitchen. Anwar's Kitchen delivers quality food, and I will keep ordering from them.

It was also annoying for the waitress (not the gal that served us btw - a host perhaps) to give the vibe like they were doing us a favor by applying the $50 Birthday promo that THEY send via email (note, I verbally this flagged when we arrived just in case - but they didn't initially have it on our bill). My head is thinking "calm down--we ate minimally and got drinks. Don't offer it if you're going to have an attitude about adjusting the bill". It was just weird. They also didn't offer any bday dessert treat but we weren't super pressed bc we were so full. The meat was a bit overdone and all kind of tasted the same this visit. Didn't get to try the lamb chops and a few other meats, but still has a nice variety. Salad bar is top notch and consistent, although wish their black beans were plain due to all the meat. Drinks were ok--heavy pours but lower quality wine. The $29 "Wine Experience" package was worth it for my husband who likes variety of wines with his dinner depending on what he's eating. I'm sure I'll come again but it's been bumped a few notches on my Go To list.

I chose naan. It was really good but it was a little too spicy for me. The cashier told me they could add yogurt the next time around. However, what really stood out is how the fish was cooked. I feel in American restaurants, fish is just cooked in a way that makes it just taste ok.
