Went back here for a charity bowling event to support the Brunswick Downtown Association. We made dinner reservations prior to our scheduled time to bowl. The place was absolutely mobbed with people and I was not quite sure how we were going to have time to eat prior to bowling. Our waitress (and it kills me that I can't remember her name) was fantastic. She recognized the urgency of our situation and worked at lightning speed to get us our meal and then followed up with us numerous times as we moved to the bowling event. She was absolutely perfect! The food was excellent. Bowling was a blast..... candle pin bowling is so much more difficult than it looks, though! About half way through our game, our lane experienced a fatal mechanical problem. This bowling alley is an historic gem and the machinery that runs the lanes is definitely "old school". Ownership was very accommodating and gave us a gift certificate to come back and bowl again another time. Was super excited to try this place out as the Mrs. had hyped the coolness of candlestick bowling lanes inside a restaurant and the local flare of a Brunswick hot spot. The coolness was there but the food was just okay. I order the Jalapeño Poppers as an appetizer and the Haddock Tacos with the Mrs ordering a salad that has a tacos bowl shell. The poppers came out and this was when I learned what BOLOS stood for. Be On the Look Out for Seasoning as it was clearly missing. The molten cream cheese inside had no flavoring in it what so every and the jalapeños didn't have any hint of spice that a spicy jalapeño should have. The BOLOS continued when the Haddock tacos came out as the juicy that came out of these two flavorless tortilla must have washed away the Seasoning. The Haddock was bland and not even distinguishable in tastes from the slaw or the read sauce on it. The whole entire plate was soaked in run off from the tacos. As if the fish was frozen. The corn side must have been marinating all day in water as it too was missing it's flavor and tasted like day old corn re heated in a microwave. Finally found the Seasoning on the Waffle Fries with their secret seasoning (Old Bay) oops did I do that??? I wouldn't go here for food but I would go here to try out the bowling and some drinks sometime. read more

I've been to eager to try out Bolos for quite some time now and I finally had the chance to order food for takeout a few weeks ago. I checked out their website (which is set up very easy for people to find what they're looking for), and browsed their menu. I knew I wanted to try their tacos and was ready to add jalapeño poppers to this list when I noticed lobster poppers. I ordered three tacos (one beef, one chorizo, and one steak) along with the lobster poppers and an order of churros. The food was more than satisfactory and I can't wait to go back to Bolos to dine in. The tacos remind me a bit of western tacos and I'm thrilled that Brunswick now has a place who truly know how to make tacos! Try them out, you won't be disappointed. read more

Queso was watery. Asked the server and she said it's always like this... been here before and it wasn't. Service was pretty terrible, well non-existent really. Really surprised they let their bartender/server wear flip-flops. Got the carne asada tacos. Heat was good but steak was cooked terribly. Guacamole was atleast good, brown, but good. Nice that it had bowling for the kids... kept getting stuck on us though and that non-existant server wasn't much help. Kinda wish we didn't pay for it. read more

I've been wanting to try this spot for a while now and I finally got my chance to last night. Super cool atmosphere with a retro bowling scene which I've never experienced before it was very cool had a great time with that. (PS it didn't appear that they have guard rails so mediocre bowlers beware lol). The food was okay we got the tacos and some queso, I wouldn't personally come here for the food but it does the trick if you're hungry and the kitchen is open until 11 which is awesome. The drink selection was probably the highlight of this bar I highly recommend the downeast cider we all were drinking that by the end of the night! Service was okay not great but all in all I gotta give it a 4 because I would definitely come back again and again! read more

This place is so dang cool. A cross of modern and antique. You can tell it is brand new but refurbished. They have a great selection of beer and the menu is fab. Bowling is difficult but so so fun! Also. It is one of two things in Brunswick that is open late. Bowling aside, it is a great place to just watch a game: a great full bar. Not to mention some great 70s rock/blue that I loved but didn't recognize. So fabulous. Please at least try it out. I love it so much. read more

I was extremely excited to be eating at this place. Although it was a bar, the decent reviews and great menu led me to believe it would be a fun and casual experience. However, this excitement soon turned into sudden fear. Once we were seated, it was not until we walked up to the bar when someone came to ask for our drink order. A simple diet coke and Pinot noir (in a can) took nearly 10 minutes to show up. However, this was a terrible sign, the diet coke tasted awful, like the coke itself had become stale. In fact, when we asked for a replacement of sprite, we realized every drink was watered down, all sodas tasted like seltzer. We hedged our bets and decided to order some food. The jalapeno poppers were cold in the center and uncooked with a solid ice core and the salsa for the chips was extremely watery. The food itself was very greasy which was alright, but the waitress could not take any requests like "no meat" or "without jalapenos" properly. When we told the waitress we did not ask for this food, she sighed and stormed off with our plate. It wasn't until a half hour later we got our food and it still wasn't our correct order! If this wasn't enough, a bar fight almost broke out when someone named Pete began to raise his fists and threatened to beat up someone at the bar. He pushed over a chair and nearly hit my wife. As of that wasn't enough, while we were waiting for the check, a woman at the other table pulled her breasts out and made me and my wife extremely uncomfortable. So sad and disappointed my experience was not a good one here. I made reservations for my birthday for a party of 15 to bowl then have dinner. The bowling part was great, our waitress was fast with our drinks and everyone had a good time. While bowling we got some apps, the guacamole was as bland as a paper towel, the queso was as thick as gel and the chips were stale. At this point we were contemplating about going somewhere else for dinner, we decided to stay since we were a large party. Once we sat for dinner, our waitress disappeared and did not come back for 20 minutes. We put some apps in and ordered more drinks. The apps took 45 minutes to arrive, and another 45 for food. We sat for dinner at 6:30, didn't get our food until 7:45, then our entrees at 8:30. The service slowed down to a snail's pace, and the food was not enjoyable. At this point everyone was ravenous and cranky since not everyone ordered appetizers. They messed numerous orders up, gave the wrong food and over cooked steak, chicken, and shrimp. Bolos Kitchen, Cantina, and Candlepin is a great new Tex-Mex place and bar where the old Bowling Bowl was. They took out a couple of the lanes to make room for a very long bar and dining tables. They also really spruced the whole place up. read more

Love the look and feel - would have been a 5 star if the music wasn't SO LOUD AT THE BAR! (Yes, that shouting was intentional, since that's what we had to do to have a conversation). Note - it is the MUSIC that is loud - not the bowling - the bowling has charm and was expected. Our server, Jeanne, was awesome. She did her best to be heard over the music and told us all about the amazing sauces! Her recommendation of roasted habanero sauce was spot on! Great drink selection. A group of friends and I decided to check this place out on a Wednesday night. As soon as you walk in you get a vintage feel for the business, and we all loved it. It's not a typical bowling alley, very old fashioned but it was a lot of fun. It's a bit pricey to bowl there ($60 for an hour). We also tried their tacos, burritos and chips & queso. The burrito was the best one, but still not the greatest burrito I've ever had. Most of the meat was very salty and a bit tough to chew. The queso was also very salty and thick. Their bar was awesome- plenty of choices for everyone. I'd definitely check this place out again, it's in a great location but I wouldn't come here with the intentions of getting a fantastic meal. read more

Candlepin bowling is great...food was just OK. We ordered the Nachos. The plate was reasonably sized for the price but the toppings were meager and limited. No black olives, no fresh tomatoes, not much meat and cheese was incompletely distributed. I know this is not fine food but maybe that is the point. Stumbled on this cute little place for lunch recently! The concept is great, with half the space used for bowling and the other half used for a very long bar and high top tables serving Mexican food. One of my issues here, which I hope will get fixed soon, is that there was no drink menu whatsoever. I asked for a margarita and the waitress was kind enough to also suggest a grapefruit margarita, which is what I ordered. It would have been nice to see a list of the available drinks and especially margaritas, if they are going to offer different flavors. I'm sad to report though, that I'm pretty positive I was still brought a regular house margarita instead if the grapefruit one I ordered. It tasted fine, but was disappointing since the waitress was the one who had suggested the flavored one to begin with. We ordered chips and guacamole to start, and while the chips were good, the guacamole was extremely bland. We needed to add salt, pepper and the lime from my margarita to give it some flavor. I ordered two shrimp tacos and a pulled pork taco, which came with a side of salsa, beans, rice and corn. We also ordered a shrimp burrito with blueberry habanero salsa. Both of the dishes were alright, but on the bland side. The tacos especially- it would have been nice if the shrimp was more flavorful or the pulled pork served with some sort of sauce. All in all, this may be a fun place to come bowling and grab a drink, but the food leaves a lot to be desired. read more

Second time getting the chimi- waffles fries were amazing. Chimi was good but - for the second time the beans in the chimi were undercooked - prob just the way they are made but I feel like the beans should be cooked through before adding to the chimi- some people are fine with it (my husband was fine with it) I think I'd just rather have mushier cooked through beans. As a bartender, I kept hearing about this new place that opened,and had to check it out. I have returned several times since! I thought the new set up was great-you can go to bowl or just enjoy dinner and drinks! The staff and owners are friendly and attentive, great service! enjoyed trying the different margaritas and have been happy with everything I've tried off the menu thus far. I had not been candle pin bowling since childhood and had a lot of fun playing again. They were even able to accommodate 10 of us when my sister decided (day of) that she wanted to go there to celebrate her birthday! my bf and I went this place. we've gone several times before and had decent time. anyways, this time that we went Wendy the bartender gave the worst customers service I've ever received. she ignored us after asking if we were ready to order. then the resr of the night we were ignored. she was flirting with the 30 year old men. and completely ignored us. another sever was great! when I asked for a check after 1 1/30 we had been there. Wendy gave me attitude and then ignored us again for 10 more minute. also there was a band there at the time. it was extremely loud. the band is not necessary in that small space read more

Atmosphere was pretty unique and was probably my favorite part! The food was okay, nothing that was particularly special. First off, no drink menu! Maybe it is in the works, but they didn't have one when we went. We got the queso with chips to start and it was decent. Our waitress offered to get us more chips as well when we ran out. I got the Bolo Bowl (burrito without tortilla over lettuce) with the seasoned ground beef. The beef was somewhat luke warm on arrival, but it tasted fine. It would have been nice to have salsa on the side, or tomatoes. I would suggest more cheese. It just seemed to be lacking some oomph, either not enough items in the dish or not enough flavor. The corn was an interesting side, and I would have appreciated a toothpick after eating it. My girlfriend got the burrito and she said that it was fairly dry and she wished it had sauce in it or something on the side (not the hot sauces, which were a nice addition to the table from our waitress). Otherwise, it tasted good. Staff was very friendly and the beer was great! Might be back for drinks and bowling, but probably won't go out of our way for the food. Had to try it out because it is such a cool concept, but was extremely disappointed. Restaurant itself is very charming, but combined with the blaring music and bowling I could barely hear the person sitting next to me. I ordered the veggie bolo's bowl. The tiny portion was underwhelming for the $12.00 I spent on it. Very bland and mushy. Could have used at the least some taco seasoning and lime. I had high hopes but was very disappointed. February 4th I am extremely unhappy with the level of service, actually the lack of professional service, we received from your establishment. I was with my children and we phoned your business to reserve the lane for bowling for my girls and a friend. I had called, on speaker phone, while my son spoke to your business. A girl answered the phone and we inquired about the availability for a lane.  We told her we were looking for a lane at 9 and she said that it was available. We asked to make the reservation, he provided his name and the phone number 207-XXX XXXX. She confirmed that she would see us at 9. I had a previous engagement so they were dropped off on my way out and I left. I got a call which required me to cancel my plan and have to turn around and pick them up. The girl there told them they didn't have a lane and that they should have been there at 7 which was incorrect. They attempted to explain the error and they were in turn laughed at and told that they had to leave. That is awful and unprofessional. I can understand errors happen but to treat people like that is wrong. They are teens but are still paying customers that should be treated with respect. Being told to leave and I wasn't even there to get them yet was inappropriate as well. I think that your staff was unprofessional and disrespectful. My children have gone and paid money to bowl there in the past but after treatment like that I will not allow it again. I will also make sure that others are fully aware of the level of disrespect they had to deal with. The young people in the area are who are going to help keep your business going and the parents of their friends will be sure to know that this is not the place that needs the business from us. The movies or the other bowling alley will be the ones that I am sure would appreciate the money. We were doing our part to support the local business in the area but that is not something that I will do for businesses that cannot provide professional service and respect to the public. I am very disappointed with this business. All though the waitstaff was very friendly and attentive to me while I was there. I was not completely satisfied with my safety during my visit on New Year's Eve. Customers were on the dance floor with drinks. Some even double fisted. Unable to control drinks while dancing and spilling them on the floor. Staff did not clean these spills or even mediate what was going on with the condition of the dance floor. My boyfriend ended up injured and unable to work because of a slip that could've been avoided had someone been interested in maintaining a safe environment for the entertainment we expected to enjoy safely . Not a great way to start the NEw Year injured and unable to work. I am hopeful this review will change the way this establishment looks out for its patrons safety in the future. I believe my boyfriend has a broken foot. He has yet to see a professional for any type of diagnosis concerning his injury. However if he isn't better soon I will see to it he does get an X-ray. I know Bolos has done a lot to bring in more dance business and hope they will work towards a safer atmosphere for their patrons in the future. I probably won't be back anytime soon. read more
