    Best tacos in the area!
    Lindsay G.

I've been to eager to try out Bolos for quite some time now and I finally had the chance to order food for takeout a few weeks ago. I checked out their website (which is set up very easy for people to find what they're looking for), and browsed their menu. I knew I wanted to try their tacos and was ready to add jalapeño poppers to this list when I noticed lobster poppers. I ordered three tacos (one beef, one chorizo, and one steak) along with the lobster poppers and an order of churros. The food was more than satisfactory and I can't wait to go back to Bolos to dine in. The tacos remind me a bit of western tacos and I'm thrilled that Brunswick now has a place who truly know how to make tacos! Try them out, you won't be disappointed.

Queso was watery. Asked the server and she said it's always like this... been here before and it wasn't. Service was pretty terrible, well non-existent really. Really surprised they let their bartender/server wear flip-flops. Got the carne asada tacos. Heat was good but steak was cooked terribly. Guacamole was atleast good, brown, but good. Nice that it had bowling for the kids... kept getting stuck on us though and that non-existant server wasn't much help. Kinda wish we didn't pay for it.

I've been wanting to try this spot for a while now and I finally got my chance to last night. Super cool atmosphere with a retro bowling scene which I've never experienced before it was very cool had a great time with that. (PS it didn't appear that they have guard rails so mediocre bowlers beware lol). The food was okay we got the tacos and some queso, I wouldn't personally come here for the food but it does the trick if you're hungry and the kitchen is open until 11 which is awesome. The drink selection was probably the highlight of this bar I highly recommend the downeast cider we all were drinking that by the end of the night! Service was okay not great but all in all I gotta give it a 4 because I would definitely come back again and again!

very yummy food!!! We were looking for somewhere out of the box and this place is perfect for that! Also super cute inside. Fries are awesome, I got a wrap and it was a tad bit bland but it was still yummy!

Bolos Kitchen, Cantina, and Candlepin is a great new Tex-Mex place and bar where the old Bowling Bowl was. They took out a couple of the lanes to make room for a very long bar and dining tables. They also really spruced the whole place up.

Stumbled on this cute little place for lunch recently! The concept is great, with half the space used for bowling and the other half used for a very long bar and high top tables serving Mexican food. One of my issues here, which I hope will get fixed soon, is that there was no drink menu whatsoever. I asked for a margarita and the waitress was kind enough to also suggest a grapefruit margarita, which is what I ordered. It would have been nice to see a list of the available drinks and especially margaritas, if they are going to offer different flavors. I'm sad to report though, that I'm pretty positive I was still brought a regular house margarita instead if the grapefruit one I ordered. It tasted fine, but was disappointing since the waitress was the one who had suggested the flavored one to begin with. We ordered chips and guacamole to start, and while the chips were good, the guacamole was extremely bland. We needed to add salt, pepper and the lime from my margarita to give it some flavor. I ordered two shrimp tacos and a pulled pork taco, which came with a side of salsa, beans, rice and corn. We also ordered a shrimp burrito with blueberry habanero salsa. Both of the dishes were alright, but on the bland side. The tacos especially- it would have been nice if the shrimp was more flavorful or the pulled pork served with some sort of sauce. All in all, this may be a fun place to come bowling and grab a drink, but the food leaves a lot to be desired.

They can't manage a fucking popper to save their life chef: "sorry, we put the filling on the other side...."
    Nick B.

I strongly dislike the poppers and the owner confronting me at the bar about a bad review. However the atmosphere and the bar staff are very good. I vouch that 90% of the food on the menu is quite good and you'll enjoy it as the best late Mexican in town.

The bartender said we could order food even though it was really slow and the band had stopped playing. We ordered cheese steaks sandwiches. We asked what came with the sandwiches and we were told tater tots. It took almost 40 minutes to get our food. We had to wait about 5 minutes for the ketchup and there were no tater tots. We got a bag of chips and were told they were out of the tater tots and French fries. No respectable Irish bar would not be able to serve fries or some form of potato with a meal. The bar had about 10 people in the bar and they were all pretty drunk. It is not a fun pub but a place with some sad drunks.

Looking to have a nibble and a mocktail or cocktail with friends? The Abbey has it (and more). The vibe: relaxed, warm, mid-modern meets minimalism, gorgeous stained glass windows, lots of natural light pouring in, the most comfortable seats you've ever sat in at a high top, lots of wood and greenery, a playlist that makes you stop and lean in. It's a cozy place that makes you want to stay a while. The drinks: I tried an iced cardamom latte with oat milk and it was fantastic (if you've ever had the vanilla cardamom cold brew coffee from Trader Joe's, it was an elevated version of that). I've also had a couple cocktails - since they make their syrups in house when they run out, they run out and your drink might be unavailable... BUT the staff is exceptional at making alternate recommendations and even making totally off menu drinks entirely! The food: Several (clearly labeled) vegan options! We tried the muhammara (a housemade dip topped with spiced walnuts, chickpeas, and three half slices of toasted sourdough) and the hummus plate (housemade and topped with marinated chickpeas and a drizzle of olive oil, accompanied by six naan wedges). LOVE the quantity of both dips, but wish there was some other dipping vessel outside of (the sometimes stodgy) bread. A little heap of rainbow veggies would be amazing! While the muhammara was a bit more liquidy than I've had elsewhere, the hummus was thicker than I was expecting. Solid shareable options regardless! (Grab a seat, order at the counter, and they'll call your name when your drinks are ready so you can go grab them; if you've ordered food, they'll bring that to your table. It was confusing what the clean-up situation was, several of us just sort of walking back to the bar with our plates and cups.) Excited to return again!

The issues were glaring though. We arrived early for a group reservation of 10 and started at the bar. The service was very slow and we got the sense that the bartender was frustrated that we showed up early with the idea to have a cocktail before our reservation. Bar service continued to be painstakingly slow throughout the night. The restaurant was somehow out of several of their menu options (despite the restaurant not being busy on a weekend day). Not the end of the world, but it left us asking some questions. The major issues really arose when our entree courses were served. They had somehow ran out of french fries, and you could see that in the portion size of the frites in our steak frites (the picture included in our review was our plate -- we had BY FAR the most fries out of those at the table who ordered steak frites). And they ran out of steak - one of the people at our party who ordered steak frites was served a hamburger (which isn't even on the menu). Overall, I thought that we overpaid for the food and if it wasn't for the good company at our dinner - I would have been very frustrated.

Not by any means bad, but so many flaws and so far below my high expectations from other reviews…read morethat my 2 star rating is appropriate, though it gives me no pleasure to do so. I have no issues with my waitress, Brianna or any of the other staff I interacted with. And, while the food certainly sounds interesting on the menu, it doesn't translate to tasty, attractive plates and this needs attention desperately. The menu is very small, all fitting easily on one page. There were no specials. My appetizer was the best thing of the meal, Roasted Cauliflower, with fava cream, roasted almonds, fresno puree, mint oil, and duck crackling. The plating was attractive. I liked the subtly minted fava cream (think hummus), the cauliflower florets tender and sweet from the roasting. But the mint leaves were whole (should have been julienned), the almonds didn't seem particularly roasted, and as for duck cracklings? I forgot they were even there until I reread the menu this morning while writing this review. There were 5 specialty cocktails listed on a card on the table. My Water Street Ol' Fashioned was made with Knob Creek bourbon, Liqueur 43, maple, honey, burnt orange. It wasn't sufficiently chilled. But the flavor was good, it seemed strong enough, and the cherry was of high quality; perhaps Luxardo. The wine list included some unusual selections, including an ice wine from Ontario by the glass, which I had with dessert and enjoyed. My entree was - there's really no other way to put it - a disaster. Braised Lamb: charred eggplant, blistered red pepper, polenta cake, mint gremolata. First impression: what incredibly sloppy plating! Everything piled onto one side of the plate, stray crumbs on the other side. Like somebody tripped but caught themself on the way to delivering it. This was not a cohesive dish. It was a collection of ingredients. The meat lacked flavor (what was it braised in - water?) and was divided into two odd-shaped chunks. The eggplant was chewy and sour, not noticeably charred as described. The greens (pea greens?) were a tangled mass off to one side, uncut and difficult to eat. Even with these flaws it might have been saved by a flavorful sauce to bring it together but there wasn't any. I would have added salt but there was none on the table and I didn't bother to ask. I hoped maybe they could redeem themselves with a good dessert. Sadly this was not to be. Just 4 things on the menu, none of them sounding very interesting. I should have just settled on the Affogato - hard to get this wrong. Instead, and untypically for me I chose the Chocolate Pot de Creme, unimaginatively described "... strawberry jam, vanilla granola." Like chocolate pudding out of a box (or how I remember it, being over 50 years since I've had it). The granola? Literally like they opened a box of cereal and dumped some on top. The jam unmemorable but it added contrasts in sweetness. Some whipped cream and maybe chopped mint would have been welcome additions. They had the audacity to list "Bread & Butter" in their small plates section. Described as "warm bread, lemon chive butter." How unimaginative! And while it is unfortunately getting more common to charge for bread, I believe strongly that table bread should be free. Always. Some good things too. The main dining room and bar are beautiful, with an uncluttered, modern look mixed with country touches like a farm table adorned with some wine bottles and potted plants, a worn oriental rug beneath. Knick-knack shelves on the walls, painted vines on the walls. Mostly soft jazz playing for music. But the long and thin layout is a drawback because no table gets good views, especially on the porch. I could have faced the outside windows with a view of the parking lot or the open windows to the inside, where I sat, where my views were cut off by large plastic plants. Really the best place to sit is at the very attractive bar. Where, by all means if you're staying at the hotel have some drinks and a snack, but I suggest you seek other alternatives for dining.
