We were so impressed with just the inspection on our home that we had them also start the process at our daughter's home which she rents from us. Both 1950s homes within a few hundred yards of the Rogers Creek Fault. The inspection photos both before and after are plentiful and of high quality. I would recommend this to anyone who has an older than 1980 home regardless of whether you have Earthquake Insurance or not. The cost was around $5,000 for each home, the total time from initial inspection to work done was 2 months (scheduled for 3 but they had openings) and the actual work took 3 hours or so as they have very efficient crews, (different crew at each house). The office staff and field staff are first rate and I've dealt with tons of contractors over the decades as we built restaurants and have rental homes. The CEA dashboard for those with insurance was a bit difficult to navigate at first but they helped me through it. They are out of Sebastopol and have done many of these unlike some of the other fly by night "contractors" on the website; one of which never contacted us again (thankfully) after a sloppy inspection by a poorly trained person. Bolt Down the Bay Area (BDtBA) did a fine job two years ago to replace a damaged section of perimeter foundation, and did a seismic blocking with holddowns retrofit to strengthen the north wall. We recently noticed a 1/4 inch hump in a bedroom floor. Sean of BDtBA brought in Luis, who trimmed several floor joists so the floor would level out. I'm impressed BDtBA stands behind their work, even after time has passed. The plan is for BDtBA blocking and holddowns for the south wall, and sheathing to complete the seismic retrofit. I could not be happier with a company than I am with BDTBA. We worked with Bolt Down the Bay Area to secure our foundation in case of an earthquake. After receiving a FEMA grant to do so, BDTHA, quickly made an initial appointment with us. The inspector was timely and thorough and informative. After being on the waiting list for over a year, Earthquake Brace and Bolt (a CA program) finally approved our $3,000 grant from the state of California. We initially had heard about this state program from a friend, and I'm so glad we pursued it. Once the state approved us, it was time to find a contractor. I contacted about 10 contractors and heard back from a few. One of them was Bolt Down The Bay Area (BDBA), the same contractor our friend used in his retrofit. Not only was BDBA the first contractor to follow-up with our inquiry, but they also were the easiest to reach on the phone. Because our friend was so happy with their work, it was an easy choice to go with them. They gave us an estimate to bolt our home to the foundation around the perimeter of the structure. Their estimate was $5,500. With the state's grant of $3,000, it only meant $2,500 to us. We wanted to take advantage of the state's generous offer, so we hired BDBA to do the job.
