Why this place came to our radar only lately is a shame. Surely this is a kingdom come for teriyaki lovers, and the seventh heaven for the kookoo wrap and the amazing kookoo balls. Pros: Good food, good service Cons: Best food selections are spicy I admit it. I get bored with my food, so I'm always on the lookout for new food choices. So when I was planning a trip out to the Bellflower area, where I normally don't go, I took the opportunity to try different food. I had the Asian fusion tacos and Kookoo chicken balls and did not regret my decision to try new food! The tacos had a nice tang, and you can add different sauces including sriracha at the table. The Kookoo balls are chicken in a sauce surrounded by rice and coating and then deep fried. They were hot and nice and crispy with a savory seasoning. They were even still good and crispy a few hours later. The only bad thing about the food is that most of it is seasoned and my friend does not like spicy food, so she was mainly stuck with teriyaki. Most of the population will not have a problem, though. My friend admits that she does not even use common table ground black pepper on any of her food. The service was really good. The cashier/server pointed out different ordering options and even helped us move to a different table when we found ourselves cramped. I regret I don't live closer to a KooKoo Grill and will likely remember to stop by should I be in the area again. read more

I usually get the Chicken & Beef Combo. I must say that the chicken is cooked perfectly! The outside is crunchy but tender inside. I don't think I've ever had chicken cooked like that from other teriyaki places. I couldn't ask for more! (And the portions are huuge). I also like their teriyaki sauce! When I eat teriyaki, I usually look for that punch of flavor. I don't know what it is, but this sauce on top of the Chicken & Beef combo always hit the mark! I also like their KooKoo Fries! Great ideas but poor execution. The menu is filled some tasty, interesting sounding food combinations which excited me like no other. I mean, just reading and seeing pictures of the KooKoo fries had me pumped. However, I did not find the food to be as mind blowing as it looked and built up to be. The KooKoo fries were drenched in sauce, don't get me wrong I love sauce as much as the next guy, but to the point where it over powered all other flavors. It was not good but even the other flavors on it were just ok. I tried the deluxe burrito which sounded amazing! At first it was incredible but upon eating more of it, the facade wore off and it wasn't too appealing any more. We ordered our food to go and the owner gave us free drinks and free KooKoo rolls to try while we waited for our food. OMG! The KooKoo rolls were to dye for! I really enjoy the KooKoo Balls which are rice balls stuffed with special season chicken. And I must talk about the KooKoo fries. Imagine Carne Asada fries but with teriyaki chicken fixings and hot sauce. It is a meal all by itself, so if you order a teriyaki plate then get this to share with someone. The staff are really friendly and welcoming. The photos on yelp make this place look better than it is, their food is pretty mediocre. Popcorn chicken looks/taste like frozen chicken nuggets, it was also really plain and bland. The BomBom fries were a huge disappointment, tastes like fries with ketchup and thousand island sauce was hoping for something more since this place should be Japanese Mexican fusion. I did my Yelp research so I went with the KooKoo fries...AWESOME!! My sister had a burrito that was also delicious... it was so big she only had half. we took the other half home and I had it for dinner the next day and it was still delicious! Great teriyaki fusion spot near Cerritos College unfortunately it is not in walking distance or I would be there every day between classes. I have been here twice once with my sister and the second time with my wife and both ladies loved the food. The first time I ate inside before class and the food was really good and the location was pretty clean. It was kind of empty but we did come at an off time. The second visit was through the drive through and they got my order right and served me in less than 2 minutes. But again I came on an off time and there was only one car ahead of me. I hope this place has more business on other times because I really enjoyed this place but I really want to try the rest of the menu but I only get to visit during school. If you love fries, go order the steak fries! It's soooooo amazing. It's very flavorful. They have the sauce they put on top that tastes like in-n-out's spread. It's an Asian version of carne asada fries. The sandwich is also good. But I gotta say everything almost tastes the same, just different textures, but it is their signature flavor. I'm really torn about giving kookoo grill 3 stars. They've been consistently crave worthy the past 5 times I've been here, and the service was always great. It's been such a staple in my diet I thought for sure the next time I update my review it would be a 5-starer. Sadly my last visit did not live up to my expectations. Kookoo grill has a drive thru, but it's not a true fast food restaurant. So I've always happily waited an extra 15 min for my food. Last night, however, I sat in the drive thru for 40 minutes. During this 40 minutes, no one bothered to poke their head out and let me know what's going on. I had to knock on the window. Even then, the girl packaging up the food looked at me and just turned back to her work. I think she was new because I've never seen her there before. Usually I see the owner herself at the drive thru window. Anyways, when she finally gave me my food, I asked her why it took so long. She responded "we ran out of beef." Me "but I didn't order any beef?" Her "yea you didn't order any beef, so there was a mix up with.." waives her hand, "we were cooking your food." She acted like giving my an explanation was too much trouble. I wasn't trying to give her a hard time. I just wanted to know why it took so long, and I don't think that's too much to ask when I'm sitting in my car for 40 mins at a drive thru. While that situation was annoying, I tried to shrug it off and just enjoy my tacos, but it was hard to because the chicken was uber dry. At closer look I could see a lot of burnt sides on almost every piece of chicken. Usually I don't mind a slight char, but this was burnt AND dry. So I peeled off the black and ate the tacos anyways because I was way too hungry by then. Sigh. I don't want to judge kookoo grill solely on my most recent visit, but it's hard to not to change my opinion about them. Consistency was the reason I've become a regular.
