omg this place...what a bad experiences. I walked in here today for lunch based on the reviews here and omg i had a bad experience. I ordered sweet lassi and all they gave me was yogurt with sugar...thats not even close to lassi. Their food was not even fresh at all and that place looks lot more like a pantry in some temple.I dont know i would never go back there again. read more

I like the food but apparently they have serious issues with giving a spoonful of rice to a one year. I used to visit Bombay Express regularly until I realized how cold the lady (apparently the owner) at the counter can be. Recently, I went there with my 1 year old son, we ordered and paid for our food and just as a favor asked for just one spoon of rice in a bowl so that my son can play and maybe even eat that spoonfull rice. She wanted to charge us for that spoon of rice and make it a whole bowl which we didnt want. I have seen every other Indian place and even non Indian places like Chipotle not having a problem with that and we were never charged for that. And when I mentioned to her that I was not happy about how they treated then she started explaining the business dynamics of a spoon of rice. I asked her to cancel the order as I didnt want to sit back and eat there. She later started arguing that she has more and enough appreciated customers to even care for us. Well God bless her and her business model and hope she makes lots of money by selling a spoonful of rice. I have decided to to never go back to that place where the owner real doesnt care for customer service. I guess there are more and enough caring Indian restaurants who would treat your one year with just a spoon of rice and not fleece you. Its not about paying for the bowl of rice but how you get treated. read more

By "accident," I ended up eating at Bombay Express. I'm a huge fan of Indian food, and as such, I have high standards. I was very impressed with the food. I am also a vegetarian and it's fantastic to be able to order anything on the menu. I usually get the special curries of the day and I'm never disappointed. Decent to above average dishes and friendly/prompt service. However, I can't give above 2 stars for a restaurant that doesn't serve any form of meat. No lamb curry, tikka masala, tandoori chicken, etc. In other words, good place for side dishes. read more

One of my favorite little Indian eateries. Small, family owned, counter service, strip mall, with different daily specials. Great value. Great for take out while going down I35 since some of their food is ready to eat. I often order a Papdi Chat or another chat (about half of their menu is composed of Chats). They also have a spiced tea that I often get. I know they have Dosas but I usually go to Swad (my long standing fave but often less convenient for me) or Madras Pavilion for those. I think this place is all veggie (I never order meat at an Indian restaurant). I don't think of this as the most amazing food ever, but it is solid, very good, consistent, with a casual low-budget atmosphere. My background: I am a Caucasian American who has traveled to India (Bombay twice) several times, sometimes for weeks at a time, and cook Indian food regularly with and without my Indian friends. read more

We had the Thali and we were fully satisfied with everything. The Thali had homemade kind of rotis, two curries, rice, aamras and dhokla. A real delightful lunch.! Also had the spicy paneer roll, apt name - really spicy in a perfect way. Dabeli was also too good. And finally the masala chai. Would come for the chai again and again.! Don't be fooled by the location on a strip mall on the highway. This place has great food. I always get their thali because it has so many different foods and ingredients that I can actually take stuff home with me and eat it the next day. And I love their carrot dessert. It's the kind of place where you go, order at a counter and pay, and they give you a number so they know where to bring your food. And then the food is fresh and delicious. And the decor is surprisingly pleasant and nice for a location right there. I go there with my brother all the time. It's definitely worth the drive from Austin. read more

this is the best vegetarin indian food we have found yet. We have been here twice. The first time we had great samosas. The second time we had a crepe like thing that was filled with a spicy mixture that was fabulous. We also had the Tali (sp?) plate that was a serving of each of several different items. The food here is absolutely delicious! The ambience is fairly basic (though very clean), which is fine because you will be totally focused on your wonderful meal anyway. Since we first landed in Austin (March 2014) we have been going to Bombay Express quite often. The food is excellent and the staff is very friendly and cooperative. I like the vegetarian Thali and dosa a lot. My inlaws are visiting from India. They have tried Indian food at a lot of places but they always insists that we should take them to Bombay Express. We went to eat at Bombay express on Sunday. My experience was pretty bad. I ordered for additional food which I kept waiting. When I went to pay my bill and asked him not to include for food which wasn't delivered, the owner got really mad. He was so rude instead of apologizing. They lost me as customer forever. read more
