First and foremost we didn't choose our items -- grabbed it through a TooGoodToGo offer on a whim. Greeted with friendly faces and fast service -- and piping hot food. We received spiced paneer dosas, chips, and a slew of dips. We don't know what everything was but it was all delicious. All for $5 from TooGoodToGo. This food truck park is difficult to get in and out of if you don't know where you're going, and it's VERY dark at night. However, after some exploring, we realized we can get in and out of this location without using the 183 frontage road -- there's access from Lake Creek Pkwy -- so that will be what we do on future visits for safety and ease. I don't know what it's like during the day, but at night it is very dark and sketchy... highly recommend coming with friends. There's a quite well lit seating area/dining area, however, and it's decorated with bright colors and positioned in the middle of the area, with about 6 food trucks all around. However, only 2 of the trucks were open/serving when we were there. 10/10 -- will come back to order full price items, most likely during the day! Absolutely delicious. read more

I did a too good to go order from here not too long ago and LOVED it! They made a fresh dosa for me which I thought I was just getting leftovers and sometimes leftover dosa can be hit or miss but the fact that it was fresh was a great surprise. The gentleman making everything was kind and funny, I really loved speaking with him while I waited for my food. The truck was outside but I went on a nice night so there was no problems. The truck is so cutely decorated and I really loved all the touches that the owner made to the space to make his customers comfortable whether they ate there or elsewhere. I was craving paneer, so when I saw pictures of the paneer skewers and the paneer spinach melt sandwich, I just needed to try them. We ordered the Paneer Tikka, Vada Pav, Fried Idli, and the Paneer Spinach Melt. Warning: The Paneer Tikka is spicy due to the jalapeños, but it's really yummy with the sauce! I would recommend it for those who enjoy spice. The Paneer Spinach Melt was indescribably delicious. It's obviously not the healthiest in terms of fat content, but the flavors were wonderful. The sandwich had a great cheese pull, and the chutney added the perfect touch to this buttery melt. This is one of my favorites now! The fried idlis are a MUST! I've had these and my family makes them, but the seasoning on the idlis with the flavor of the dipping sauce is simply perfection. Their mango lassi was not overly sweet and just right. Next time, I want to try the Doffles! I've never had those. The food was yummy, but did take a while to come out. I got the Veggie Uttapam and was disappointed that it was 90% onion and a tiny bit of raw broccoli. It wasn't cooked all the way so the broccoli was still raw. :( It came with a small lentil soup that was so hot that it worries me about the plastic chemicals melting into the soup. The Veggie Uttapam was too spicy for me and too dry - the overload of lentil powder did not help. Mango lassi was fine, nothing special. (Dosa's are savory crepes) We loved the classic dosa (potato, onion, curry leaf) and peppy paneer dosa (paneer, pickled onion, herb yogurt). The dosa itself was perfection, fresh & crispy, and both fillings were so flavorful! My favorite is the peppy paneer :) The sauces that accompany the dosas are a fantastic complement. I love the spin on the traditional dipping sauces and sambal. The red sauce (a ginger chutney) has a little kick which I loved! We also tried this month's January specials, both are uttapams (a fluffy, savory pancake). The uttapam sandwich is stuffed with a pav bhaji-like potato patty. I found the sandwich quite heavy but tasty! My favorite was the crispy avocado uttapam. This is eaten like a taco and stuffed with fried avocado and a delicious slaw. Have to try! From their colorful food truck, inviting website to excellent customer service it was definitely a pleasant experience. I ordered the Classic dosa, jalapeño cheese dosa and the Bombay grilled cheese. They gave us a buzzer and estimate time it will be ready. They have tables set up next to the truck and they are fancy!!!! They had a mister!!! In this Texas heat you need that mist to cool you off. I picked up the goods and I enjoyed EVERYTHING! I am amazed how they got the filling in the dosa where it didn't alter the texture of it. It wasn't soggy from the cheese or fillings. The cheese jalapeño and classic dosa has great flavors. The dark red/maroon sauce was the star of the show. Yum! I love spicy foods so it was the highlight for me. Very spicy and good. A friend recommended this place so we went although this was a little out of the way. The food is ok at best. The dosa is nothing to write home about, the stuffing is decent but the quantity of the food for the price is very little and the accompaniments like Sambhar is way too little for the dosa. The chutney was ok though. It does not stop at the dos though. We also got the Bombay sandwich and I promise I can make a better sandwich without putting much effort into it. (This review is for their Live Dosa Catering.) We had a large family reunion in Austin Texas last weekend, total of 30 people including kids. We rented a house just outside of Austin and we catered the lunches/dinners. We penciled in Indian food for one of our dinners and I thought it would be cool to do live dosa catering at the rental property. Dosa Shack was 100% the answer!! Communication with Manoj was easy, as he was super friendly and patient. From the catering menu, we were able to choose 4 different types of dosas to customize our menu for the night. This included 2 different types of chutneys and sambhar. We also ordered a tray of paneer tikka and bombay grilled sandwiches from their appetizer menu. I can tell the owner really cares about his food. The quality is high. I have had better dipping sauce and dosa fillings before, but the dosa dough/batter from this place is the best I have ever had. That being said, their fillings and curry sauce are great too, but the dough is just outstanding I got jackfruit dosa and patty paneer dosa. We ordered a jack fruit and peppy paneer filling dosa. The lady outside informed us that there would be a45 minute wait which was also expected since it was Friday evening. The owners were very polite throughout and thanked us for our patience. Our order came within 20 minutes though and dosas were quite tasty. There was ample filling in the dosas with the right combination of spices. All dosas are pink which is not customary. The pink color comes from beetroot added to the batter and is a dedication to mothers and grandmothers in India. A wonderful thought and gesture. read more

They're posted up at 5000 Burnet with a bunch of other food trucks and I'd argue that their menu is the most solid food truck menu. Everything is superb, and I've had most of the menu. They have a really nice setup with plenty of seats by the truck to enjoy your meal. Start off with a mango lassi, samosa nachos and definitely order a classic dosa if you haven't had one before. Admittedly I don't know much about dosas, but I thought they were pretty good! The crepe part was crispy and the filling was flavorful. I got the classic dosa which is a potato, onion, curry leaf filling which I think is a good starting point for anyone to try. It's not a spicy filling but it is delicious. My sister got the devil veggie which was recommended as a backup option as the other spicy option she was looking for was sold out. The dosas come with 2 chutneys and a lentil soup. The "spicier" chutney wasn't too bad and leans more into the sweeter side for me...but may actually be spicy for some. The green chutney wasn't spicy but was my favorite flavor combo. The paneer tikka was delicious but those jalapeños were spicy! And I'd like to think my spice tolerance is pretty high so you've been warned. Located in a food trailer parking lot, this place has good dosas. I got the classic while my wife got the original. The classic is decent but the original is sooo good. That curry leaf butter and gunpowder takes the flavor another level. The dosa was good but we found it to be a little thin and crumbly. We love the concept of Dosa Shack. Pink Dosas are innovative. The SP2 is the best fusion dosa I've eaten. The Doffles are incredible, you can't miss that. The seating area they have is nice, with fake grass and fans. However, if you are a traditionalist, this might not be the place for you, We've come to Dosa Shack a few times now and the consistency of the dosa has been different each time so I have to knock one star off for that. They need to always be super crispy. The Sambar is different than Tamil household Sambars. I also think the wait time is longer compared to other food trucks on 5000 Burnet but that's just because it got a bigger crowd. read more

The food here is incredible.Super flavorful fillings that are spicy and you can't really go wrong with any that you choose. The dosa is light and chewy and is a perfect envelope for the food. I am only rating the devil veggie dosa and mango lassi with this review. The dosa batter is phenomenal, but this one in particular was lacking flavor and punch. I wasn't getting the szechwan garlic sauce. The veggies were just okay. The chutneys and lentil soup are delicious. Dosa with a twist? Yes, a unique South Indian-Texan collab food. When my Austin trip was finalized, I did some research about the best places to eat near the place I stayed. Dosa Shack popped up, noticed it due to the name, of course. I ignored it since it's a food truck. But eventually I ended up experiencing their food. It's a South Indian food truck - but the food is given a unique Texas twist. Their recipes are South Indian rooted, but the ingredients & preparation are altered to invent these new dishes. They have verity of dosas served with different chutneys, Sandwiches, Street bites aka Chaats, Drinks and Desserts. One of their Dosa options is the Original dosa, but it has parmesan in it. Rest of them were modified. We decided to try the Devil Veggie and the Jack of All. Also ordered the Samosa Nachos from the Street food section. They prepare the food once the order is placed. It took around 15 minutes for the food to come out. The dosas were served with 2 different chutneys and Lentil soup. Tomato chutney is their Mild option and the Ginger chutney is the Hot one. Cherry tomato Lentil soup is medium spicy. Ginger chutney - ridiculously good. Goes well with the dosa and add tons of flavor to it. The Devil Veggie - stuffed with vegetables sautéed with schezwan sauce. It had big flavor and spiciness by default. With chutneys, a real deal. The Jack of all constructed with the tropical fruit - Jack Fruit. It's the tender jack fruit used for this along with other spices and curry leaves. The dosa is stuffed with that Masala and it's fabulous! It gave me nostalgia about my homeland! Worth every penny for it! The Samosa nachos is another twist added to the famous Indian street food. It's Jalapeño cheese samosas served with herb yogurt and salsas! Loved it! Big kudos to the brain behind this concept. But to pull this off doing all the justice to the concept? Got the SPC2 dosa and the samosa nachos. Both were really good! Liked that the dosa came as an order of two with a decent amount of filling but not so much that you lose the delicate dosa flavor. Lentil soup that it came with and the dipping sauces were delicious. Samosa nachos were crispy and reminded me of chaat. Servers were super nice and helpful and food came out relatively timely for a food truck. Real deal dosas at 5000 Burnet. * * * Austin is having a South Indian revolution. Tons and tons of South Indian engineers have moved to Central Texas. They want the outstanding food they have at home. All sorts of restaurants have opened to meet this need. * * * Sadly, for us Central Austin yuppies, Most of that good food is up in Cedar Park. Some of it is in Northwest Austin. Very little of it has hit the center of town. * * * But civilization is moving southeast. There is now a credible dosa truck at 5000 Burnet - the best food court in the city. The menu is limited. Essentially, four or five kinds of dosas plus some minor trimmings items. Dosas are super-long, super-high rolled South Indian crepes that get filled with spicy goodness. They are a staple of South Indian cuisine, the way that sub sandwiches are a staple of American cuisine. There are lots of dishes in America besides sub sandwiches. Go to a place like Sangam Chettinad at McNeil and Parmer and you will be blown away with hundreds of intriguing possibilities. You can eat every meal for a week at Sangam Chettinad, order several dishes at every meal and never have to repeat a menu item. And most of those dishes would not be dosas. * * * Still, four or five kinds of dosas beats zero kinds of dosas ... And zero kinds of dosas is what we had previously. These are pretty good dosas. * * * The Dosa Shack does makes two culinary concessions to Austin's Anglo Yuppies. One) They cut their dosas in half. A normal dosa is longer than a foot long sub. Both ends stick out off the end of your plate. A normal dosa has all of the stuffing jammed in the middle like two tennis balls. The outside edges are "empty". Empty is okay because you are supposed to be savoring the taste of the pancake that makes up the dosa itself. People can argue about whether a dosa is good or bad, just on the taste of the cooked batter in the crepe itself. It is like a ramen noodle specialist sipping naked broth out of his bowl to see if the broth meets his standards at the purest level. The batter here seems fine to me - although I have not been following the Dosa Batter Debates carefully. There is still plenty of naked Crepe to taste if you want to enter those debates yourself. Two) They pack the dosa somewhat fuller than you would serve in a dosa for Tamils. This is so yuppies don't complain they are being ripped off. * * * Dosas come with hot sauces - multiple - and these do too. But the heat is in the stuffing and not the sauces, which is as things should be. Your first bite of stuffing will blow the top of your head off. This is why your head comes with hinges. You can blow the top of your head off with Dosas, and then replace the lid at the end of the meal and go back to your normal business. Two different hot sauces means you can blow the top of your head off three different ways - Sauce 1, Sauce 2 and Bare Naked. The flavor changes, so the trick never gets old. I inhaled my dosa in six and a half seconds. I wouldn't mind inhaling another one sometime very soon. * * * There are still some slots for rent in the 5000 Burnet food court. Any one want to open An Idli truck? A Chettinad truck? A Goat Curry truck? Or a Chaat truck? (Please, please, please a chaat truck?) We got room! read more

I came here for a diwali lunch with my parents I was a little disappointed the dosa was more soft as not as crispy. It had great flavors though. My mom ordered the vada pav and my dad had the bombay cheese sandwich which he enjoyed. The sandwich comes with chips. Dosa Shack's Classic Dosa is hands down the best post-work delivery I've had recently in Austin. The potatoes inside were perfectly fluffy, and while the dosa wasn't crispy by the time I got to it, it was still soft and flavorful and filled to the brim with this spiced potato deliciousness. The three sauces really elevated it--a sweet tomato-based one, fresh coriander chutney, and a spicy orange sauce that added a nice kick (sorry I'm not the most cultured). Small but mighty menu. The pumpkin sambar has so much flavor. My husband mistakenly ordered the classic instead of the original so I need to go back to try that next time.
