The menu offers an array of meat and vegetarian options. The servers ask how spicy you want your food to be. The range goes from very spicy to not spicy. I order a (- 5). The chefs prepare a larger bowl of rice when 2 or more people order. A good tip is that you can ask for more rice - free of charge. However, the dishes can be on the pricey side. You can order garlic naan, rice, or even poppadom to accompany your meal. It tastes delicious. Got the Pakistani Special in regular spice for my daughter and I. She enjoyed the sauce the best :) We had a bunch of different sides, which were more exciting than the main dishes my family ordered. My daughter had fun eating the papadums (flavor: meh). The Tandoori Wings were very spicy but otherwise no other flavor in it. We got a variety of Naan breads- the garlic cheese was my favorite, lol resembling the crazy bread at Little Ceasars. Everyone on our table got different dishes (from Chicken Tikka Masala to Traditional Chicken Curry), which seemed to taste similar to one another with the level of spice being the only variety... which is less than expected since I love variety. The dining area is cute and cozy. Everything seems clean. Staff is so friendly, gave my daughter a plastic spoon so she didn't have to use the metal fork to play with ;) Glad we tried it out because they were so customer-oriented. Here is some constructive feedback. - The basics...please CLEAN the restaurant. You can see years of dust accumulating on the overhead lighting and corners of the dining room. - The restaurant is showing it's age. Miss matched chairs, extension cords and outlet extenders strewn around, men's room urinal out of order with a plastic bag over it, table cloths and other surplus items stored in plain sight of the guests. - The prices/portions reflect those of a higher end restaurant but the property needs a "Restaurant Make-over". Either bring the prices down, increase the portions or fix up/clean the restaurant (or some combination of all three). This is on my regular rotation for take out! The food is consistently good. My favorite dishes are the garlic naan, samosa chana chaat and paneer makhani. The samosa chana chaat has a real kick to it if you love spice. It's plenty saucy, which I love. The only downside is the prices are spendy, but they're right in Waikiki so that's to be expected. This is the closest Indian place to me and it's pretty good. Well as their site says it's Indian and Pakistani food. The decor is a bit dated, but the food is good. I like the lamb shish kebab comes out on the sizzling plate. I usually go for lamb dishes. I think the other I tried is Rogan gosh. When they say spicy it's very spicy though. We had veggie dishes, biryanis, their naans, etc. and everything was really good. They're always consistent in quality and taste. Located in Discovery Bay, per the Dining Out section in the local newspaper, this restaurant has a new chef and new owner. Reading that, my parents and I decided to trek out to Waikiki to try this place that we haven't been to in years due to a not so stellar experience previously. Boy am I glad we tried this place. Chai Tea: 5/5 the usual chai tea in any Indian restaurant. The only difference, the menu doesn't off the choice of hot or iced. Came out has hot chai tea. Vegetable Pakoras: 5/5. Comes with the usual dipping sauces of chutney and the mint sauce. The pakoras here come out looking like patties instead of the usual ball style. Still tasty. Still would order this. Fish Tikka: 5/5. The fish for the day was Mahimahi. The waitress suggested this dish or the curry with the fish, as both is very tasty. Usually getting fish curry style in other Indian restaurants, we opted to to try it the Tikka style. Coming out on a sizzling plater with onions and green bell peppers, with a wedge of lemon. Tasty and done just right. Dhaniya Chicken: 5/5 Listed on the menu as a Pakistani special, we opted to try this dish, because the menu said it's a Pakistani special. According to the menu, this dish comes with gravy but what I liked was that it was not drowning in gravy. Garnished with cilantro this dish was flavorful. This dish can be found under the 'Entree' section, and all entrees come with a bowl of plain biryani. There is a $10/bottle corkage fee as this place has a wine/beer menu. I just went here yesterday for dinner for the first time and they absolutely crushed it. The service was above and beyond, everyone was nice and friendly, and the food and drinks were killer. I wish I could remember the servers name because she was truly great. I came in by myself with my twin babies and she really helped look out for me. I got the butter chicken, shrimp tandoori, garlic naan, cheese naan. Everything was fantastic. I ordered a lot so I could bring some home to my wife just in case. She's not a big Indian food person and even she was like "holy crap this is really good." I can't wait to go back and try more. I just moved near here so easy access and will be back soon. I do wish it was slightly less expensive, but it's an expensive area so I understand, and maybe it's good because otherwise I'd be eating there too much. Thursday night dinner date with my husband. We live near here, and I've always thought about trying it, but seemed a little pricey. Anyway, we wanted Indian and it was close by. Walked in and was greeted, sat in the back in a booth. First thing I noticed is that it's a little hot in the place. Open kitchen, which is great!!! But not a lot of a/c action going on. They do have a tiny patio you can sit outside. Husband ordered Diet Coke (comes in a can- which is annoying at restaurants, but oh well). We started with the vegetable samosas, order comes with two. They were on the smaller side, but very good. The mint/cilantro sauce and chutney they come with us yummy and compliments nicely. We also ordered garlic naan and each ordered chicken tikka masala (medium hot). It was some of the best food I've had since I've been here on island. Really really good. The sauce was thick and creamy, not too "runny". And the naan was light, crispy and chewy. Next time I think I will try "hot" spice. Bill came out to about $70 +tip for the two of us. My wife was craving for Indian food. We where looking for an Indian food place, but the place we wanted to go to was closed. So we decided to eat at Bombay Palace since we had a good experience since last time we ate at the restaurant. When we got into the restaurant there was no wait. We were the only costumers inside. So We got seated right away. Once we where seated, the server filled our glass with water. As I was about to drink the water I notice the glass had a stain, the glass was dirty. Looks like it wasn't wash properly. We called over the server and told the server we were ready to order. She gave as a pen and order form, server told us to write our own orders down. My wife and I was like "okay" they're properly short handed. So we ordered the same food we ordered last time we ate at the restaurant. We got the following food... -Samosas: The samosas was terrible, the samosas was crispy but the inside was ice cold. -Vegetable Biryani: rice tasted old and the vegetable was soggy. -Chicken Tikka Masala: chicken was dry and the inside was cold. Seems like they just microwave the chicken masala. -Lamb Rogan: It was alright, it was oily and seems like it was also heated in the microwave. -Garlic Naan: this was the only thing that was good with our order. It was warm and crispy when we got it. Overall this experience was terrible. After what our dining experience at the restaurant. We will for sure will not go back. Our order was around $86.00 and with tip came to about $100.00. With the amount paid for the food. You could get a lot better food else where with better service. The food was ok but the attitude and service is the reason for the 1 star. 1. When they seat you, they hand you an order ticket with a pen and menu and ask that you take your own order, write it down and then hand it to the waitress. I understand because of poor staffing, this can happen however they had 2 waitresses just standing around. 2. As if writing my own order wasn't enough, they only allow you to order once. Which brings me to #3 3. If their portions were enough from the first place, I wouldn't have to ask to order again...we ordered the same amount that my family needs and somehow all of us were left hungry and unsatisfied. For example, we ordered the shahi paneer and paid $17 for it. When we saw there were only 6 paneer cubes in there, the waitress said all their paneer entrees only have 6-7 pieces. 4. If the menu says free fountain drink refills, what's the question? We order a refill and the waitress when she brings the check decides to comment "by the way we didn't charge for your refills." 5. My husband and I have been craving Indian food for a while and dreaded going to back to Cafe Maharani primarily do the main waiter there. At first this place did not seem to be promising despite all really good looking pictures and reviews. This was mainly because I was hangry and we were waiting for then to open (5pm) and they opened at 503pm dont judge me. We've all been there. HOWEVER!!!! This place drastically surprised me and was more then definitely worth the wait for multiple reasons. Reason one--food-- The food was delicious, has tons of flavor. When my husband inquired about items on the menu the waiter actually answered his questions sincerely and provided great suggestions. The waiter did not just blow off the question on what is the popular answer, or seem like he didn't know what he was talking about. We got the chicken Tikka (dry), chicken Korma (Medium), samosas, and garlic cheese nann. Regretfully we should have not doubled up on the chicken (though super delicious) we will be back for other shrimp and lamb dishes! Reason two--atmosphere-- The atmosphere was wonderful. The place was not crowed (not just by people, but by stuff). There was the right amount of tables and our table had plenty of space for our dishes. You are able to see directly into most of the kitchen which is nice because you can see how your food is being prepared and even better smell it Reason three--customer service--- Not just the waiter took care of us. Three people came to our table throughout our meal to ensure that we had drinks (never had an empty glass, not even once), our food, (they brought it out as it was ready) and respect (they were SUPER nice and attending).
