I've frequented this restaurant for years as my only Indian option on the island. It has continually gotten poorer in the service and food side. They've recently changed the name to something else and removed a bunch off the menu so I doubt I'll be returning. The staff aren't very attentive and when you do get their attention, it's like a burden for them to make happen. I believe a new kitchen staff has been implemented as the food doesn't taste like it always had on this most recent visit. While in Hawaii we were craving some authentic Indian food, so we decided to give Bombay Palace a try because it was right within walking distance of the hotel we were staying at. We had tried another Indian cuisine restaurant a couple nights before. And even though the food was good it just did not have the authentic taste that we were craving. So we decided to give Bombay Palace a try. Let me just tell you this place did not disappoint! The food was out of this world delicious! I've been wanting to try INDIAN & PAKISTAN FOOD! Like literally because I watch MARK WIENS and the dishes always look bomb. So we were staying in Waikiki for our anniversary & I so happened to be looking for some place that served Indian food & Yelp helped me find this place & let me tell you we were amazed...We loveeeeedddd it! My other half was tripping because he wasn't expecting that & the whole way there since we walked from the Wailana parking lot I kept saying "I hope I love it & don't get disappointed" because it always looks good on the show lol but man was I not disappointed it was what I was hoping for. We haven't been her in years but was craving Indian so we decided to take the trek to the edge of Waikiki. It was not crowded at all with only 4 other parties there while we ate. Since they serve take-out I hope that they make up some business in take out considering the empty restaurant. We were seated promptly and they had our table reserved closer io the windows. Masks were worn by staff and tables were covered with paper. I noticed they had regular menus and not disposable paper ones andthI didn't seem them wiped after use. Service was friendly and we ordered some sparking water and wine to start. We decided to try the Samosa. Chana Chaat which was very tasty and quite filling. I prefer regular Samosa since the heavy sauce made the crust soft although the yogurt mint flavor was good. It was a portion big enough to be an entree and with the garlic naan bread and mango chutney it was delicious. Unlike many other Indian Restaurants we've been to the bread and chutney were extra side dishes that we had to order. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala which is one of my fav Indian dishes. Hubby had the Traditional Lamb curry. Both were served with a well flavored basmati rice which is served family style. The portions were decent and more than enough for us to have some left to bring home. The Masala was okay although I have had better. Overall, it was fine but not outstanding. read more

We never got to try the food, so my review is based on the service, or lack of. I dropped my wife to the restaurant whilst I parked because she needed to use the restroom. They would not let her use it because she was not sitting on a table. When I got there and she told me how they treated her we chose to take our business elsewhere. Before the second lockdown, I ordered some take out and enjoyed this at the beach!! We called in our order and drove to pick it up. I'm not sure where the parking is, so I got dropped off outside while my friend drove the car around the block. The road was pretty empty at the time, so it was easy to pull to the side. Although normally the road would be pretty crowded to stop. The restaurant is located in the plaza across the Ilikai hotel. We were running late, so our food was ready when we came to pick it up. After grabbing food, we took it over to the Hilton lagoon area and had a little beach picnic! Indian food is not the most beach picnic friendly, so I recommend bringing your own plates and utensils or maybe eating it before you go the the beach! This was my first time trying this restaurant. The yelp reviews seemed pretty good, but when we picked up the food, the restaurant was empty so I was a bit skeptical. We ordered house special curry, samosa chana chaat, lamb biryani, and a garlic naan! I have not tried a lot of the Indian restaurants on island, but glad I expanded my horizons with this one! The flavors were really good. The chicken in the curry had a smoky taste and had a red glaze to it which was different than what I had at other restaurants. Bombay palace is Indian Pakistani inspired (I believe) so the flavors did have certain nuisances to it! My favorite was probably the lamb biryani. The meat was really tender and came with a nice yogurt sauce to top it off. The samosa dish was also really different as I have only tried the traditional fried dish. And how can you go wrong with garlic naan? Overall, we had an excellent lunch and it was the perfect amount for four people. read more

I ordered to go around 15 minutes before they closed for lunch. The chef might have been in a hurry, because my food was lukewarm and the usually delicious crispy garlic naan tasted like a doughy pizza bread. The chicken wing tandoori was not salty enough, and tasted old. The skin was not crispy and well char like it should be. I wish I want to Buffalo Wild Wings next door and ordered the parmesan garlic wings instead. The usually fragrant basmati rice also tasted like leftover. The fried potato appetizer was cold and seemed like it has been sitting out for a while. The lamb roger curry was pretty hot and good, and it's the only thing that didn't disappoint. We ordered: Garlic Naan: Leavened garlic bread baked in the tandoor. Their naan is so delicious! Crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Chicken Tikka Masala: Charbroiled chunks of chicken cooked in tomato and cream sauce with a blend of herbs and spices. This dish was flavorful, but a little too sweet for me. Dhaniya Special- Pakistani Specialty with Lamb: Cooked with fresh cilantro and parsley in light gravy. This was the best dish we ordered! Never again !! To whoever is managing (running ) this restaurant. What is going on with this business? The restaurant was packed , there were 3 people running the floor and 2 people in the Kitchen and no one was even moving. After about 15 minutes with no service I eventually got up and turned in my order that i also had to write down Myself (possible COVID policy???). Then we noticed that tables were getting frustrated that seemingly no food was coming out of the kitchen except naan. Eventually a fed up customer got up and asked the kitchen staff "what's going on here ". At this point it was apparent that we were in for a very long wait and we finally decided to walk out. We told the host that we're we're canceling our order ( which surely hadn't been started anyway....) and we received zero reaction or concern as to why we were leaving after waiting. All this for 18% automatic gratuity for dine in customers!!! Sad to see a once good restaurant failing in such a dysfunctional way. This is a hole in the wall in Waikiki. Validated parking. A few tables outside for those who want to eat in open air which we like, heck, we are in Hawaii, after all. Relatively quiet interior, a plus in noisy Hawaii. The kitchen is open so you can watch the cooks at work. The menu is standard fare, but done very well. The sole upside we saw from this place is that it allowed us to scratch our random craving for Indian food while on vacation in Waikiki without having to go very far. We ordered chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, cheese naan, samosas Chana chat, lamb boti kebab, and two sides of rice (do not forget that they charge extra "if" you want rice). Chicken tikka masala was...eh Lamb was so tough and I threw over half of it out bc I couldn't use my utensils to cut the gigantic pieces and got tired of trying to tear it apart with my hands and teeth. Garlic naan was good Cheese naan had zero cheese - it was plain naan, so of course they robbed me there knowing I'm not gonna come back for my couple dollars difference. Rice was a little dry - but they only gave me one of the two orders of rice that I paid for, and it was barely enough for one entree. Samosas were not great. Just soggy and gross. Flavors were pretty good, but the textures were just awful. Should have read reviews more carefully! This place has the most amazing Indian food that I've ever tasted and I was in love. We took my nephew and his wife out to eat to celebrate his birthday. Service was pretty prompt and the manager was super friendly. I loved the roasted eggplant dish which is vegan and hubby loved the chicken korma. They do ask what level of spice you can take. I was a wuss and got a level one but hubby got a three. I was surprised at how flavorful my dish was . Normally if you ask for something mild, it lacks flavor. But this was the complete opposite..... absolutely delicious. It was to the point where hubby ate his dish and half of mine. Entrees do come with rice usually. But we also got the garlic and regular naan. That was heavenly. One less star... since the elevator was broken when we tried to get back to our car. The food is fantastic! Really, really good. The naans were fresh, fluffy, and oh so hot! The curries were both delicious. I had a paneer curry that was as good as the Butter Paneer I had last week, and Hubby had a chicken coconut curry that was seriously hot, and had amazing chunks of chicken breast. 5 stars for the Chef! The cleanliness of this place lets it down. The waiter is sticking to the floor as he walks. So is everyone else. The tables were also sticky. We were given cold plates for the starter and had to use the same cold plates for our main courses. I don't like it when a restaurant can't be bothered to give out warm plates for your meals. And I especially don't appreciate not getting a clean plate. I debated between 3 and 4 stars, but the service was actually okay, so they got 4. So if you are in the mood for amazing Indian food, and don't mind sticky floors and tables, then give this place a try. Despite the cleanliness issues, I'd go back! After we finished our food the missing dishes still did not arrive. We told them to just forget it and cancel those since we just ate from what we had. They refused to cancel the items and said no refunds..eve. though WE NEVER RECEIVED THE DISHES!! manager said it was their policy and no exceptions. Found this *Halal Indian place next to my hotel. We came on a Labor day holiday so they were short staffed. Actually only one girl was helping the customers, it was a long wait list yet she was very calm and greeting everyone with smile. One thing missing was they were not maintaining the proper wait list, she had to ask every time who is next in line. We ordered Lamb kadai and Somasa. It was great, the mix for spices is Lamb kadai was perfect. I loved it and will definitely suggest others to try it. *Update* Tried them again. This time we ordered Tandoori and Dal Makhni. Tandoori I would rate as average, it's well cooked but the spices/marination were not that great. Dal makhni was good. The best thing about today's visit was the customer service. The curry entree do not include any rice or bread but when you add rice with additional $2, you get only a handful of zira rice which is not basmati either. Rude server, horrible establishment, worst experience. Don't bother even calling or going there!!! We called to place an order and we're told to call again in 10 mins, w called again and server told us to place it via grubhub. Placed the order and got a pick up time, went for pickup and were told to wait another 40 minutes since they are not taking orders via GH. We told her that we already waited 40 minutes and the server got very aggressive and told us that we were blaming her. We made it quite clear that it's nothing personal and the manager/establishment should take responsibility of true mess up . She waved the managers business card in our face and told us to email her. DO NOT CALL THIS PLACE IF YOU ARE EXPECTING EXCELLENT OVER-THE-PHONE CUSTOMER SERVICE, or any kind of customer service when ordering from them. The owner interrupted my call with another employee while she was taking my order. Why would he do that? It seemed like I was taking up the employee's time with my order. He was rude and rushed my phone order. He said, "You're taking too long. Go through the menu. Call us back. We are very busy." My belief that customers who want to ask 1-2 clarifying questions about a menu is in their right to do so. I stilled placed the order, gave him my credit card number, and then he tells me it's an hour wait. I said that I wished he told me that wait time earlier before I gave my card number. That would have been a courteous gesture. I said to actually cancel it, and he said no, I can get it ready in 30 min. After changing my mind because he couldn't guarantee that because he was so terribly busy, I said to cancel the order. THEN HE CHARGED MY CARD ANYWAYS AND SAID, "I HOPE YOU NEVER GET MY FOOD!" It took 2 phone calls (one which he replied "you don't want to mess with me...") and a threat to Better Business Bureau to file a complaint before he reluctantly refunded my card. This was the worst and most appalling experience ordering over the phone. I had high hopes for this restaurant but was highly disappointed from the start. I called the restaurant to ask a few question regarding parking etc. but the guy who answered brushed me off and said, "it's busy now, I have so much customers to take care of" and cut the phone. I was surprised at how rude the staff was but let it go. Once I arrived at the restaurant, there was a guy at the register but he was too busy ringing up bills and failed to acknowledge us. (Second flag) Once we got seated, we ordered a mango lassi and yogurt lassi as well as our food. I ordered the chicken masala which the menu said comes with rice. The waitress asked if we want rice with it (which I thought was strange)so I asked if it comes with rice. She answered saying that rice is a separate charge and I was looking at the old menu (after the fact that we ordered) (third flag) It took a long time for the food and drinks to come out (it was busy so understandable) but we hoped for the drinks to come out at least. I flagged down the male waiter and he said he'll get the drinks for us. He brought out the drinks but brought out two mango lassis. I told the guy that I ordered 1 yogurt and 1 mango lassi and he said unfortunately they don't have the yogurt lassi for the night. I thought ok that's a shame so I cancelled the lassi but a minute later the other waitress brings out the yogurt lassi. I was in disbelief that the male staff had lied and said they don't have the yogurt lassi anymore. So in conclusion, the female staff members and the food was good but the male staff ruined our experience. read more

I'm so torn on how to review Bombay Palace - every experience I've had is different. Consistency not their strong suit. I think they're actually closing at 8:30 right now - be sure to check their website for updated hours. They stop taking orders a bit before then, too. Calling to place your order is hit or miss, we have a 50% success rate in reaching them. I was recently staying at Discovery Bay though, so Bombay Palace was literally underneath me! I've never dined in, but done take-out numerous times. I always go for the coconut curry due to lactose intolerance, and its never upset my stomach alone. The flavor varies, maybe due to different cooks? Its never been unenjoyable though. I've sampled the butter chicken. Its incredibly rich and not for the sensitive-stomached. The chicken is almost always in nice, big white meat chunks! I've never strayed to other protein options. The garlic naan is just okay, almost $5 for one piece is not an appropriate asking price. Most recently, the naan was most strange. The middle was paper thin, not even separating into two, while the rim was super dense. I'm no naan expert, but this proportion of densities was not favorable for our curries. I also got the veggie biryani on my last trip. I've only ever tried this dish at Sarithra on Kapiolani Blvd. and I have to say Bombay's version was much more flavorful. The raita it came with was a good size and it paired nicely. All in all, good flavors here despite the value/portions. Unfortunately there are not many Indian food options on Oahu, which seems to work in the favor of the few we do have. Still better to patronize local eateries such as Bombay Palace (or Gangham Style right around the bend!) any day over the chainy Outback or Red Lobster. read more
