I usually don't have any issues at Bomboba and they are definitely my boba place of choice. But I have no idea what was up with their staff tonight... :( Just ordering the drinks was tedious enough. I honestly had to repeat my order 2-4 times. I ordered an avocado/durian small w/boba, avocado/mung bean small w/boba, avocado medium w/boba, and thai tea medium w/boba. I do admit that the order was a bit complicated but after reviewing it with the cashier a few times I figured he had it down. After a 12 minute wait, my brother and I got our drinks and were on our way. It wasn't until we got home when we realized that the flavors of the drinks were not right. The avocado/durian was just plain durian and the avocado mung bean was just mung bean and (and was very bland compared to the others). And if that wasn't bad enough, the drinks were also all smalls instead of 2 small and 2 mediums. I wasn't given a receipt so I couldn't double check if I was jipped or not but I guess that one was my fault for not asking for one. It was all just a mess... Lots of choices, friendly staff, however they no longer do frozen yogurt which is why we stopped in. Music is very loud, which isn't good or bad, just letting people know. I haven't gone in a couple weeks but my experience was so bad that I haven't stopped thinking about it and I'm bored so figured why not leave a review right quick. Not much to say honestly, these employees just are horrible at making drinks in a timely manner. If you're coming here just know it's like dining in at a restaurant basically cus my goodness they take forever. So if you want to dine in for a simple boba drink then this is your spot! They're lucky they're one of the only ones that are open as late as they are cus if there was more spots open that late this place would be dry like my phone. These people must be milking cows in the back and serving everything fresh cus I don't know how else to explain how long they take. Let me start by saying I like their boba. But the services are to be desirable. I ordered a few drinks with coffee jellies. Ordered One drink with coffee jelly and boba. When my drinks came out, all the drinks had coffee and jellies. ( honest mistake! No one is perfect). Here is the problem: they remake the drinks with coffee jellies and cut open the old drinks and pour the liquid into the new drinks. Wow! They could make new drinks like all other places but decided to use old drinks that they made in error. On a different visit, I ordered a few drinks to go and they forgot to put in the jellies and any sweeter. The drinks were bland. I called them and the girl just said " ok- we will get it right next time". Did not offer any refund or credit. I don't think they care about their customers. It was such a disappointment coming into bomb boba tonight. It wasn't busy. This place looks so run down and look so terrible and dirty. There was a couple waiting for their drinks and then there was me and my husband. We ordered 2 drinks. Then we proceeded to wait. Then 2 gentlemen cames in, looks like it was one of the employees friends. They didn't order but was hanging out and talking at the register with the other employees. As we waited and waited... no drinks yet, it has been probably 15 minutes already. Next thing they bring out 2 FREE drinks for those 2 gentlemen. Then they all still stood around chit chating. This time I see 4 employees and the 2 gentlemen talking. As we still wait for our drinks. More time has past and nothing. Then another FREE drink came out to those 2 gentleman. Then I walk to the register and notice they are just standing back there hanging out and talking. So one of the employee came to the front to help me. I question about our drinks and she was confused and was like you guys didn't get your drinks yet? I'm like no we haven't. They were looking and found our receipt on the floor. We were the only one that was there that ordered. How can you possibly lost our ticket. By this time I was already upset. It's has been half an hour already. Went for a quick heat retreat, they weren't busy at all, now I know why. They were out of quite a few items, no avocado ice cream, no strawberry flavored boba, no guava ice cream. Then they mixed up my daughter's drink for something else she didn't order. The young lady didn't offer to make a new one. When they told me they were actually out of avocado ice cream (after I ordered) I just told them I wanted my money back. Now with their brand new location expanded with new menu items nonetheless is exceptional and over the top with new flavors of teas,slushes,iced drinks specialty drinks and new additional appetizers to choose from. Everything on the menu may seem overwhelming but with the help of the workers and the owners to help you pick and choose what you like it can be a breeze. Minus the fact that everything is organized and alphabetized for easy choosing. The atmosphere is welcoming and laid back with the addition of the people working there always welcoming you with smile and opportunity to help a customer at any cost. The place is well organized to where you can relax and sit down to where you come right in there are two menus easily located to look through. Also that the side where you order from the line formed doesn't clash with the rest of the business... My little family and I are original customers of the shop and friends of the workers and especially the owners. The owners are literally the most kindest hospitable people I've met they pay attention to detail and the customers making sure their orders/drinks are to the expectations and likeness to the customers. Moving along to appetizers and entrees/dinner plates. There is so much to choose from as we've tried everything from the menu. Personally pad Thai,pad see ew,fish balls,fried rice are mine and my fiancé's fave. American sampler is yummy for the little ones as its my daughters fave. My opinion: cheese foam is chalky. Place smelled like sulfur (like a backed up sewer or dry tap) which was a turn off but I'm sure there was some issue going on that will be fixed. Other than the fact that it is a little pricey, it is really good! I live pretty much right across the street for this place and every great once in a while we will go get some frozen yogurt from here. And oh is it good! You just grab a small or large bowl and serve yourself as much as you want of whatever different flavors they have at that time, then go over to the counter and self serve whatever toppings you want to throw on it too. (Beware, they do charge by weight of everything you pile in that bowl)! Very dangerous place because it is so good, but expect to pay for that goodness though! It is worth it to me to go on occasion. Came here 2x, ordered tea & food both times, and was thoroughly disappointed in EVERY aspect of service from the time the order was taken to the time the food came. Ordered a milk tea, mozzarella sticks, spring rolls, and calamari to-go. 1. Two things wrong with the order. Girl at the counter completely missed the spring rolls as well as the request to add only a minimal amount of soy milk. Milk tea came back with more milk than requested. 2. The wait. 20 minutes passed with no sign of the snacks. I came up to the counter to ask for an ETA and was told she had no idea. I peeked behind her to the kitchen and there were 3 people in the back milling about not doing much and suspicious lack of food preparation/delicious snack smells. 3. Food smell emanating from the kitchen, finally! but alas not my order. I asked the couple whose order was filled before us how long they waited, and they told me 45 minutes. Oddly enough, they were nonplussed, and after some further inquiry 45-60 mins wait was the norm. 4. First item came out 35 mins later, not packed to-go as requested. I asked to speak to a manager. While he was apologetic, there was also a total lack of accountability for shoddy service or long wait times. Awkward moment as he tried to look around for something to give me in hopes of placating a disgruntled and hungry customer. 5. I pride myself on writing honest, but fair and justified reviews. Unfortunately, this review will be brutally honest. I've lived in Arizona for almost two and a half years now and in that time, I've had pretty decent boba in a few locations - one in Tucson. Nothing really matches up with boba from back home in California, though. I decided to give Bomboba a try. I had high expectations based on the yelp ratings and reviews. I truly believe the only reason it has so many stars is because its customers honestly don't know any better. That's why a lot of Asian restaurants in the Phoenix area have high ratings on yelp that they frankly don't deserve. My wait for my order was pretty long, 15-20 minutes, which I was okay with considering I had a popcorn chicken order. Anyway, I ordered a peach green tea with boba, strawberry snow with boba, milk tea with boba, and popcorn chicken medium spice. All the food and drinks were disappointing, but the ones I ordered for myself in particular were quite frankly, horrendous. When I order a peach green tea from a boba shop, I expect very sweet tea with a generous amount of boba. What I got was bitter, flavorless tea (where was the peach flavor even?), a lemon wedge, and approximately 15 tapioca balls. The milk tea I sampled was alright and the strawberry snow was also okay. Nothing horrible, but not amazing either. The true crime was the "popcorn chicken". If you've been to Tapioca Express or Lollicup, you know that the TRUE way to make boba shop popcorn chicken is to use the Taiwanese recipe with five spice seasoning and basil and cutting the dark meat chicken into bite size pieces. What I ended up receiving was a styrofoam box of what looked like huge Tyson crispy chicken tenders and a plastic container of ketchup. I was a little caught off guard but as long as it tasted good, I was okay with it. It did not taste good. The only flavor it had was spiciness. No seasoning except spice. Flavorless, giant, chicken tenders. It burned my lips with its spiciness and the flavorless tea did little to soothe it. I kept remarking to my sister "this is HORRIBLE" because I was so disappointed. Usually boba shop chicken is a calorie-laden treat that's delicious enough to justify, but not this time. I really do not like writing poor reviews for small businesses, because I generally like to support them. I know people invest their time, hopes, and money into these businesses. But after having spent nearly $20 and being hugely disappointed, I really feel like I owe it to other yelpers to speak the truth despite how harsh it might be. I will likely not come here again. I would like to start off by saying that I received absolutely poor customer service from this place. I would like to review the drinks but FORTUNATELY my appetite for their beverages was diminished before I even walked out the door. Let me tell you the details of what happened one Saturday night whilst I had the appetite for a drink. I ordered a "nuclear bomb" and a Coconut Slush with red bean. When all the drinks came out I found that the Coconut with red bean was coconut blended with red bean. I brought it back to the counter and was speaking with some little kid behind the counter with blonde hair and he was looking at me like I did something wrong. Giving me a look like I was stupid for trying to get what it is that I actually want. It's like he wouldn't have even accepted it if it weren't for his co-worker who said "Oh, we'll replace it for you." As I'm sitting there waiting for the drink, keeping a watchful eye for anything suspicious (mind you that after speaking with the blonde haired kid, he was a suspect to me already.). Pay attention because this is where it all started to fall apart. As I'm looking, one of the workers points towards my direction and walks farther back into the kitchen. The kid with the blonde hair walks walks to the bathroom. The other employee working the register was in and out the kitchen smiling about something mischievous, and always looking at me every time he exited the kitchen. After blondie comes back to the bathroom he walks slowly towards the kitchen. Before reaching his destination he looks at the hand sanitizer and pauses (maybe thinking, should I?). He then proceeds back to the kitchen. The other employee working the cash register would walk to the back and come back with the biggest smile on his face. When the drink was finished, before handing it to me he was turning red. It was the red your complexion turns when you're nervous or embarrassed. Don't know why you would be nervous or embarrassed handing a drink to a customer. I'm not dumb, nor blind and you can tell a LOT from body language. He also kept looking at the drink as to imply that there was some kind of fault or as if it has been mistreated. You see, I like to believe in civility and that a lot of things can be handled by simple communication. I also believe that "closed mouths don't get fed". My girlfriend on the other hand is not going to play these little (excuse my language) f*ckb0y games. She flipped the drink, slammed it on the table and left a little tip for these hard workers. Like all places, there's different staff that man the place. I hope that blonde guy doesn't work there all day. Hell, I hope he only works one day and I was one of the unlucky few that got to experience his work ethics. No smile, bad attitude, poor customer service. Maybe this kid needs to find a job more appropriate for him. IF he's reading this, here's a tip: Smile more, frown less, and don't be so rude to people who are paying your checks. My friends and I were here on their grand opening day, the place was packed! The inside was nice, they have couches and comfortable chairs. We ordered Halo- Halo and the caramel ice pudding. The halo-halo was ok, it was watery, their ice were not shaved it was way too big, like chunks of ice. Halo- halo ice is supposed to be shaved or crushed really well, I've had better halo halo. The caramel ice pudding tasted good, but there's too much ice. The drink was $5-$6 but you're only getting half of the drink. We were back the next day, it was my boyfriend's first time. We ordered the coffee ice pudding with boba, few minutes later they called my name, I came up to the counter and the girl told me that they ran out of coffee flavor, (i was thinking..how did they ran out, it was only their second day). I didn't mind, I said caramel is fine. We got our drink, it tasted good but they forgot my boba. I have to go back to the counter and tell them to put some boba. One thing after another... I'm giving this place 2.5 stars. This place has amazing, delicious drinks but the service is atrocious! I've been here multiple times. The taro boba and Thai tea boba are my personal faves. I do like that they have a very creative and vast array of drinks, I just simply tend to stick to traditional flavors. I would describe this place like a Thai/Vietnamese version of Starbucks. I could see why the menu might be overwhelming for some. Now for the service portion. The lines can be long and the place can get crowded, I see a lot of Tweens and Teens here. It wouldn't be a problem had the service been better. The first three times I went the same guy was at the register and he was awesome at giving me suggestions for drinks and friendly small talk. The last two times a young female has been at the register and is short, rude, and seems annoyed. I wanted to try out their spring rolls and she said the wait would be one hour. I thought she was joking. She said "no, can't you see we have a lot of ppl here? We're pretty busy". Her fake eyelashes must have been blurring her vision bc it was not any more crowded than usual. To be honest this spot is my favorite place to go for if I'm craving boba which is practically everyday the menu is filled with amazing drinks and it pretty much speaks for itself,meaning if you got a vanilla bean snow,watermelon,Thai tea,taro or etc you're going to taste the pure flavors in the drink. The drinks are made fresh and what I've heard few customers don't have the patience to wait for a drinking order,mind you everything is made to order fresh,it's the quality of the drink that takes time to make the boba taste good which is absolutely worth it.
