I absolutely love the Woodshed, but my last two experiences have been completely ruined by the bartender/manager. His rude, arrogant, and unprofessional behavior is unacceptable. I ordered two drinks, went to pay, and before I could even grab cash for a tip, he yelled at me demanding to know where it was. The audacity is unreal. No customer should be treated like that. I went to the woodshed last night and had a terrible experience. My real NH ID, which does have a corner peeling, was taken by the bouncer without any explanation, and I had to ask a different bouncer why and where it was being taken. I tried to get my ID back for 20 minutes and was told that if I had my passport it could be returned, so I left the bar to grab my passport. When I returned, I had to wait 10 minutes to speak with a bouncer before waiting another 15 minutes to get it back. During this time, I spoke to several waiters and bouncers who all had heard about my supposed "fake" as the bouncer had gloated about his quality fake-ID finding skills to his co-workers. At this point, I was told that the reason my ID was taken was that I had supposedly slipped it to an underage individual. This was simply untrue and was also a completely manufactured way for them to make it my fault. I had never made it into the bar, so it was infeasible for me to have slipped it to anyone else. When it was finally returned, I received not a single apology despite having been there for multiple hours and going out of my way to prove that it was real, and instead was told "you know NH IDs are shitty". Tough thing to say if looking at ID's is your job. Incredibly unprofessional on multiple counts. I understand the stress of working on 4th of July weekend and get having to be diligent at your job for legal reasons, but I was manipulated and mistreated even when going out of my way to prove to them my identity. read more

Last night was a true experience. First day post covid restrictions lifted and this place was so packed you actually couldn't move. After politely shoving our way to the bar between all the 22 year old chads and brads, we ordered 8 vodka sodas for five people. We politely asked for cran in two and he replied with "all or NONE." So no cran for us. After we got our drinks I wanted a fun picture so I stood on a chair. I know not a cute look but sorry for partying am I right? Well next thing I know I get PELTED IN THE HEAD WITH A SHARD OF ICE. when I turned to see who threw it, it was the all or none bartender screaming at me. I'm sorry but this reaction does not match the problem. Finally, at 9:42 pm the lights went on and everyone started screaming to leave. Mind you, we called that morning and they said they were open until ONE AM. They told the staff it was too crowded and they were just shutting it for the night, Jon Taffer style. The real crime here was they didn't even let the Nickelback song finish all the way through. The highlight of the event was Brooks! He was so sweet and an absolute delight. We have been coming to the Cape for years. Stopped here for a beverage in July 2023 and was reminded why we've only stopped here once in the last 20 years. One of our guests asked the bartender for a Manhattan. The bartender literally said "no." They have an array ofspirits so that was odd. We asked if they had beer on tap. The answer was "Yes. Bud." An older, casual place with a history can exemplify character however, in this case the mildewy smells, broken table and lack of enthusiasm did not. read more

I have been going to the Woodshed for nearly a decade while on my annual summers on Cape. It used to be one of my favorite bars to attend with my closest friends and family - the live music was wonderful, the bartenders and staff were always friendly, and the experience as a whole was unmatched by any other bars in the general vicinity. Unfortunately, this bar has taken a noticeable turn for the worse this season and I don't anticipate that my family, friends and I will be returning any time in the foreseeable future. Other patrons I have spoken to while there have had the same experience- noticing the new behaviors and attitude (towards women more than men) and have also stopped giving them business. The last several times I have been, the bartender, Jo (which I believe is also the son of the owners) has been extremely disrespectful toward customers who were simply ordering drinks from him- politely I may add- but in a way that he wasn't necessarily fond of, and often times using derogatory, misogynistic language toward women. That behavior seems to be accepted and not thought of as a liability; similarly to many drunk people climbing through windows, jumping off the stage etc. There have also been instances where I have witnessed inappropriate advances from Jo toward female customers and employees that were seemingly unwanted, making them appear very uncomfortable. I've also witnessed him throwing things at employees and customers alike, which coming from any employee is not appropriate, let alone a member of the owners' family. While I will cherish my early memories of the woodshed fondly, I unfortunately cannot give my business to this bar anytime in the near future, or until Jo is no longer affiliated with it. read more

This is my first yelp review. I actually had to ask my daughter in law how to post... but I knew I had to say something after the interaction I witnessed between the bartender, Joe (I believe the owner's son) and a young, newlywed African American couple. I sat beside them as Joe continued to serve several others whilst completely ignoring this couple for over an hour. They were simply trying to order a cocktail. It was at this point that others were also beginning to notice his rude behavior towards them. The other bartender was about to serve them when, I kid you not--Joe pulled him aside and said "we don't serve N****** monkeys" here. I was flabbergasted. The couple instantly glanced at each other as their faces dropped. The husband attempted to reassure his wife. But we all heard it, and were mortified. They quickly made their way out, but I wish I said something. Kudos to them for acting with dignity and class, because if that were me, I would have socked him. Shame on upper management for keeping this man employed. read more

This is our Thursday night spot! The Slackers are awesome musicians and they are fun loving and play awesome sing along/dance songs. Drinks are small and they don't do "tall" glasses which kind of stinks because you have to go to the bar more, and actually end up drinking more because they still make the drinks stiff. Always a fun time, always enough parking, and have never had to wait in line. Pretty hot in there in the summer, and they are cash only. Bring your dancing shoes! read more

Every time I have went to this bar I have seen the bouncer harass and yell at 24 year old girls unprovoked. This is not the first time I've seen it but it will be my last as I am never returning here it isn't worth feeling accosted and humiliated. Absolutely disgusted with the mistreatment and disrespect afforded to both my friends and other people in line. I understand the stress bars undergo on cape cod during the summer but I am absolutely disgusted by the way this bar treats its customers especially young women. This place is the WORST. $5 cover to get in for a band that barely plays. Cash only bar so you got hit the ATM that specifically says the $5 (yes $5...) fee is set by the bar. Anyway, you buy a drink and there's no where to stand comfortably so you go outside with your drink. The band goes on and I'm told I can't be outside with my drink while the band is on. This place is ass backwards and run by absolute scumbags. Enjoy some drinks somewhere else, you'll save $10. Update: So i go back in to get a drink from a friend who had bought me one and I have the two outdoor bouncers just pounce and yell at me as I got up from the bench and went to a closed door to get back in. Probably the best bar on the cape! The Woodshed is the perfect spot to grab a beer, catch up with friends, or listen to live music. Courtney behind the bar is hilarious, and service is excellent. On the weekends I would recommend getting there early, there is usually a line. I can't wait to go back next summer! read more

Beloved dive bar. Definitely one of the most fun bars on Cape Cod. It's no frills, cash only, gross bathroom, literally an old rickety barn, but always a good time. There's a live band every night in the summer, and usually by 11pm you'll be sweaty from dancing, packed in like sardines. Crowd is a mix of old timers and summer visitors. If you have a connection to the area, you'll likely run into old friends or see some familiar faces. Always a good time. read more

"The Woodshed Lounge" hahaha how did it get this name? If by lounge you mean cramped-in wooden no frills bar with dust in the rafters older than my Dad, then, yes. Lounge it is. Really though, I love the Woodshed! Part biased in my review, as I worked there for 2 summers many, many, many years ago, on recommendation of my father and uncle that it was a blast there. Simple and fun job, as a cocktail waitress back then...cash only. No frozen drinks, no coffee drinks, only Bud on tap, no high-maintenance drinks, no food. It has since then changed a bit. Very little bit...they now have Bud Light on tap as well. And the drafts have gone up a quarter or so. That's about it. So...the ambiance is interesting...it's really no surprise it's called The Woodshed...since that's just what it is. Picture hanging out in a barn with lots of tiny tables and lots of candlelight. And a band. And a sh*t ton of drunk people, and there you have it. There is so much random crap all over the place. One night after closing I was counting my money at the bar, and I see a pink bra strung over one of the lights. Me: When did that bra get thrown up there? Bartender: Seriously? This is your second year working here...that's been there for 3 years. Wicked pissah. Like I said. Lots of random crap all over the place. The Shed is a very unique place. I try to head in at least once a summer to say hi to old friends. It's like a time warp there....same bartenders, some of the same doormen, same regulars in their same spots, drinking their same beers. Same ridiculously cramped bathroom with the world's smallest mirror. Dirt lot parking. I love that about it though...it never changes year after year. No updates, minimal upkeep. Good old Woodshed. Tips: 1. Get there before 10. It gets super packed, and closes at 1. 2. Buy a couple beers/drinks at a time, as they are small...and did I mention it gets super packed? It may take a bit to get another drink...although the bartenders really hustle. 3. Buy your cocktail waitress a shot, and do one with her. Don't question me. Just do it. Then do it again. 4. Don't ask for ridiculous drinks. This is not Boston. Keep it simple. Rum and Coke, Miller Light, tequila shot. If you ask for a mai tai or cosmopolitan, or something equally fru fru you just don't belong, and need to leave. 5. The big Shed parties are the Brew Run, which is a 3 mile run that starts and ends at the Shed, the end of the season Labor Day party, that you will likely black out during each year. (or maybe that's just me), and the Halloween party. 6. If you want to grab food before heading in, go to the Brewster Inn and Chowder House next door...really good. 7. Be careful driving back to wear you came from. Cab it if you can. The cops are a bitch. They have their hiding spots, and they will follow you for a bit, as there is nothing else going on in Brewster. Nothing. read more

I echo what many other reviewers have already said on Yelp, Google and trip advisor ... I would give this bar zero stars if I could. I've been to the woodshed several times over the past few years with various visitors and friends from all over the country and overseas. It's a fun, tourist bar that attempts to give local cape cod vibes. Tonight, our party of 9 (all in our late 20s) arrived at the woodshed at 10:30pm and were met with the rudest bouncer I've encountered. This man refused to allow entry to my friend with an out of state license, despite his co-bouncers accepting NY and RI licenses from other members of our party. He claimed that my friends license was a fake and attempted to confiscate it, refusing to acknowledge that my friend had multiple credit cards and a student ID to verify his identity. When we asked him to scan the ID he said the WoodShed does not have this common piece of technology, refused to let us talk to a manager and proceeded to throw insults at our group as we left. The bouncer refused to give me his name but he was quite short and young with sandy colored hair, a purple shirt and freckles. I will be calling the manager to formally lodge my complaint with this business. At minimum this woodshed employee was incredibly rude to my group and at most he is may be running an illegal operation to steal IDs. His actions cost this business at $50 in cover and much more in drink purchases. I've never had an experience like this before, despite living in Boston and traveling both nationally and internationally. I would strongly recommend that you avoid the woodshed if you don't want your night ruined! read more

Honestly if you know what you're looking for and you come here you get exactly that. I don't know why (the owners son?) joe gets such terrible reviews. He's a charm. I'm a Massachusetts native and if you're from here, you just get it. He's very kind and good at his job. Didn't hit on me, and made excellent drinks. Great music, great people, great food and an overall great time. I'd give this place 6 stars if I could. If you enjoy being totally disrespected by the waitstaff you should go! We were there sat evening and was told it was cash only. That's fine, there is a debit machine. While I was getting cash, my group ordered drinks. They paid and only had $4 left for a tip. (No biggy, we'll make up next round now that we have cash!) The waitress then approaches the person that paid and said "Hasn't your mother ever taught you how to tip?" WHAT?? Is that how you treat your customers? I've misspent more than a few evenings in this little bar and music venue next door to the Brewster Chowder House. I enjoy it particularly in the fall, when the regulars take it back from the tourists. This is a rustic building with no frills. If you want to eat, there is a nice U-shaped bar and a dining room next door. Years ago, I saw an excellent band called The Preacher, the Judge, and Panama Red, but they've since split up. Last I heard, the Judge formed a band called Judgment Day. It's the kind of place where someone can yell, "Play Ol' 55" and the singer can say, "Damn, I forget how it starts," and someone else (okay, me) can yell the lyrics up to him. If you run into the Judge, ask him to sing "Psycho Killer." The song will follow him to his grave. read more

Since I was young I've been spending summers camping at Nickerson State Park, and eventually I was introduced to the Woodshed by my uncle. It's a great mix of ages, and great live music every night of the week (During summer). Beers are cheap, and the staff is friendly. It's a bit small, and there is sometimes a line during the summer on weekends. Cover is usually $5, but sometimes there isn't one. A good pick if you wanna enjoy some live tunes and sip on some brews with good friends! read more

If dive bars are your thing then the Shed is the place for you (if your not into dives then probably pick a different place). The place is literally an old shed so it can get cramped and loud, especially when the bands are playing. Live music every night during the summer, with bands that are normally solid and typically get people dancing. The drinks are cheap, the bartenders/servers are always friendly and it's the type of place where both locals and tourists hangout. Basically it's the definition of a dive bar so keep that in mind if you go there. Only downside is that it's cash only, so come prepared. read more

Definitely a dive bar. Went here on a Saturday around lunchtime for cheap PBR pounders and maybe some food. What I found was a dark, actual woodshed converted into a bar. Awesome! The place had about 10 people already there after opening and first thing I noticed is that there were people with babies in here. Word. Second, there was dirt all around my PBR can. Usually I don't let that go but this is a woodshed. The server, Callie, was awesome about it and tried to clean as much as she could off. Was able to have lunch on the back deck though. Great breeze back there on wooden picnic benches. I ordered the scallop roll and it was surprisingly good for a bar. I guess it would be because it's the Cape. And Callie was all too attentive by actually coming out to the back deck to see if we needed anything else. I would definitely come back for some dive action. read more

I called to see who was playing and asked if there was a cover charge and I was told no cover. When we arrived the kids at the door let other young adults in yet charged my husband and I. When I questioned why they were charging the old people one said "well you're the ones with the money". Worse yet, when we were leaving they were letting in more young adults (kids) without paying a cover and when I said something the kid at the door said "well we know them." Over 250 beers on tap, serving a strictly female-only clientele. In terms of appetizers, I would certainly recommend the escargot or prosciutto-wrapped spring asparagus. Located in a former abbey, the smell of candles and incense permeates the tavern, giving it a subtle mystical ambiance. The owner, Kenny Brown, regaled us with tales of Brewster yore and untold secrets of our national history. Quite eye-opening, will return! read more
