We came by after coming back from the beaches at National Shore and this restaurant was close to our hotel. We were seated right away and I asked to sit indoors. We like that the parking is very convenient. The lobster in the rough was just ok. Didn't have any flavor at all. The deep fried haddock was great. I'd like to amend my review after 8 years a bit. Obviously being very frustrated in the moment didn't help but allow me to explain in depth a bit more. We arrived to an empty restaurant, we were the only ones seated and we placed an order for 2 fountain drinks, and 2 mains a chicken sandwich and clam strips. We waited over an hour. The strips came out cold, and the sandwich wet to the point it went through the bread, and overall just really unsafe to eat. We asked for the bill, they took 20 minutes, they then came back and verbally told us if I recall, about $40. We asked for a physical copy and they really didn't like that. To double check, we referenced the prices on the menu and came to about $20. The physical copy was still for about $30. Big red flag. We paid cash at the table and left. They chased our car as we were leaving saying we owed more and attempted to block the car from leaving. Will not return. Please be aware of the situation at any restaurant. If things don't feel right, if the food doesn't seem safe, don't attempt to ride it out like we did trust your judgement and leave. read more

We popped into the Lobster Shanty on a Monday afternoon. We had our dogs with us so we were glad to be able to have them with us at the outdoor tables, although the cars wizzing by wasn't exactly a desirable vibe. We have been coming to the Outer Cape for a very long time and this is by far the worst food we have ever had and extremely over priced!! The service was very nice and attentive, but it took 40 minutes to arrive during a slow time, although it was hot . The bisque at 9 dollars a bowl that was the size of a cup was ok. The crab cake was gross and it was deep fried. They did not serve remoulade sauce and instead gave us a side of bisque. The lobster roll was flat with zero taste. The onion rings were very good. If you want excellent seafood in a nice atmosphere, stop at Arnolds a bit before this restaurant, or go down the street to Moby Dicks in Wellfleet. Both restaurants are on 6A and are casual. We ordered clam chowder which was good. Not the best on the cape but good. We both had broiled scallops. They were fresh and delicious. I asked if they could make mine spicy. They tossed a few pepper flakes on mine and with the garlic butter they were quite good. The waiter looked at me like I had nine heads at first. Lol. The vegetables served with it were standard restaurant style frozen begs with no flavor. We didn't eat them. There are much better places to dine out in Eastham. My family planned to dine in Rock Harbor but found the place we wanted to eat closed down for some reason. A quick search for lobster rolls led us to the Shanty. Parking lot nearly empty. Indoor seating was plentiful because there were no diners. The outside patio near route 6 was empty for obvious reasons so we chose the outdoor seating to the side near the parking lot. The food: I'm not into lobster but my family all got lobster rolls and fish tacos. I had a burger. The seafood was ok according to them. They've all had better. The chowder was decent, but again there is much better on the Cape. My burger was a frozen patty and over cooked. Stick to the seafood options I guess. Staff is fine and did a nice job waiting on us. Had my doubts about Highwayside dining but we stopped in after a bike ride to Coast Guard beach. Quick service, great people, genuinely excellent lobster roll (I know EVERYONE has the "best lobster roll in Cape Cod" but we left happy after four different lobster rolls in the last five days!). This says closed, but this place is open. So the kids have really cute beach buckets that their meals came in. My fiancé ordered the "all you can eat fish n chips" which ended up not being all you can eat. He wasn't asked if he wanted more. My lobster roll was quite small for the price, but the lobster was good. Here is the part that ticked me off. I ordered a side salad. $5 and change for this salad. It looked really tasty. Small bust I was starving. I went to open the "ranch" dressing and it was bleu cheese. I then waited about 15 minutes until our food was brought out and explained the mix-up. I was then brought tartar sauce. The cups were not labeled so they obviously were unable to tell which one they were bringing me. I gave up and wasn't asking again. The meat was softer than usual and did look a bit stained from the roe, but I was starving so I plowed on. Claws were all mush though. Inedible. Our waiter was nice so I tacked on a star. Here is a tip when eating fresh whole lobster in a restaurant. Always start with the claws. The tail will almost always be somewhat edible (which is why you find them frozen in supermarkets). The claw meat is delicate though. If it has turned to mush, send the lobster back immediately and order something else. read more

The good: Our waitress was very friendly. She seemed to enjoy her job. My lobster was delicious, as was the corn on the cob. The not-so-good: The chicken strips my wife and daughter got. Very dark, dry, and unpleasant tasting. The stuffing in my lobster (I got the stuffed lobster). There was a very large amount. Actually, too much. It wasn't very good, either. Soggy bread with a bell pepper flavor. That was it. No other spices that I could detect. I've had stuffed lobster at other places and the stuffing was always delicious and went well with the lobster.
