    Pan fried rice cake
    Phil N.

I've been going to Jin Jin Deli for maybe close to 20 years now and I love that not much has changed. The food tastes the exact same as the first time I've had it. JJD serves mostly Chinese casual basic comfort foods and many of the dishes aren't commonly found elsewhere in town. The standout on the menu for practically everyone here is the Pan Fried Rice Cake that is stir fried with egg and preserved radish in a special soy dipping sauce that is fantastic. It's technically an appetizer but there's been plenty of times I just come here just for that dish and nothing else. It's just that damn good. While most of the menu is Chinese there are some Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese influences here in terms of ingredients or menu items. My absolute favorite dish here is a noodle soup called the Spicy Sate Noodle Soup where you can add meatballs as an option. This dish is also available soupless that's fantastic. It's got an earthy spicy to it that's like maybe an Asian chipotle but isn't really spicy unless you're completely a wuss when it comes to spice. It's probably a 2/5 at your standard Thai restaurant in terms of heat. But it's packed with flavor and has a nice comforting and rich broth that is perfect for the colder days in Portland. For as long as I remember (maybe 18 years) I'd put this in the cheap eat category in my rotation of places to go. They've always been priced really low compared to other casual Asian noodle soup or lunch spots while never compromising on flavor or ingredients. Portions were always very good. Nowadays I'd say they are no longer a cheap eat but priced fairly amongst alternative options with many items in the $15 range. However now that prices have crept up slightly I have noticed a much more generous portion of food to the point where I'm stuffing myself to finish....so the value is still there despite the price increase. The menu is in English, Chinese, and Vietnamese and they also have a picture menu which could help you navigate ordering if it's your first time. Today I had something I've never had before and it's pretty solid, a Kimchee with beef fry tossed egg noodle dish. It was solid...it was nothing mind blowing but it is perfectly satisfying and unique. I typically stick to the noodle dishes both dry and soup, but in addition to the rice cake, I'd say a lot of people really enjoy their fried rices. I'm counting right now and there's 11 versions of them however it's something I rarely order since I love their noodle dishes so much. Their beef chow fun is one of the most slept on menu items here and in Portland. It's amongst the top tier in Portland with a good "wok hei" or dragons breath char on the noodles. If you are a fan of XLBs Beef Chow Fun, then JJD might scratch the itch for you although it is a half tier below, but a much more generous portion. It's fantastic for takeaway or as leftovers as well. Honestly most of the menu here is great for leftovers or takeaway aside from the rice cake which might lose its crispiness. This is a perfect spot for just a very casual quick no frills meal that's quick and comforting and satisfying. You'll find things that are pretty uncommon elsewhere in town but at the same time nothing transcendent that will give you a foodgasm or make you rave about. Jin Jin Deli is like my longtime childhood best friend that's loyal and dependable.

Kimchi Rice Pot with Beef ($13)

Love coming here for a meal alone or with friends. I find this place to be like a home cooked meal as it is a small family wonder business. The food isn't exactly perfect, but it's certainly comforting and a nice warm meal at great prices. Upon arrival, they have menus above the table you're seated at, and bring a cup of hot tea. If you'd like water, they have a station where you're able to get it yourself. I often opt for the same dishes when I visit; the pan fried rice cakes 9/10, kimchi stone pot with beef 7.5/10, or the kimchi fried rice 9/10. All dishes taste great, especially when craving a warm filling meal. Service is very minimal, but the family working are very kind people.

Glad I came back and I will return. A wide-ranging menu, , including rice bowls, a good variety of noodles. soups and other things. Small and busy place, the two working ladies in constant motion while staying pleasant, food came pretty quickly. And it was delicious. I had the sate rice bowl with seafood, in the hot stone bowl with some crusties on the bottom. the egg on top sunnyside up but well fried. fun to find some wide noodles mixed in for texture. Strong pepper heat level. Good amount of seafood, w/ some quality, bigger than a quarter, shrimp. Most tasty. Place small and no frills, Abby and I the only non-Asian customers.

Always delicious. This place is perfect when you're craving an authentic Chinese meal - it has a home cooked feel; comfort food for a rainy day. The seating area is small but clean. Hot tea is provided with self serve water cups.

Pan fried rice cakes, one of their most popular items.

I'm stingy with 5-Stars, this earns more like 4.5, but heck, let's round up. Winner, Winner on taste and price, i.e., value. The first item is usually the most popular and that applies here: the pan fried rice cakes were excellent? The salted fish and chicken fried rice is one of the best versions I've tried. For certain, it's tops in Portland. The complementary tea was above average, while the iced limeade was oh so refreshing. Service was friendly and fast. Prices are more than fair. Ambiance is so-so as it seems like the seating layout could be improved to allow for more customers. Parking can be tough during peak hours. Lastly, they close way too early for an Asian restaurant, especially a popular tone.

So this place is consistently on PDX eater for the Hu Tieu Sate so I've been meaning to try it. I'll start with it's a good noodle soup dish. Definitely not like the Vietnamese Hu Tieu dish I'm used to as it has a rich peanut flavor. I asked the owner about it and it's a Chinese sate flavor which is cool. To me it was like a cross between a Thai curry and Taiwanese cold noodles. I'll have to let it marinate in my subconscious some...

The spicy beef and beef meatball sate is always a hit! The steamed dumplings are my kids favorite.

Wow! It's been a while since I've died here. Why? Well, between COVID, parking and just busy life in general. Today, we decided to fight other drivers and won ourselves a parking spot! Arriving at 1pm on a Saturday, boy, they were a bit busy! We took one of the two remaining tables and quickly scanned the wall menus. Prices have gone up, but what hasn't? Well, I can tell you that the hot water in a paper cup is still the same. Quick friendly service is the same. Not to mention, they still wear a mask, thank you! Food: ordered the sate beef clay pot $13 and kimchi fried rice with chicken $12. After minutes of ordering, my streamy hot food arrives. Decent portions and still yummy, delicious as ever. Saucy rice and full of flavor once mixed up, a little spicy. Yes, I'm still talking about my clay pot. Is there scorched rice inside? Some, not a lot, but enough to taste it without hurting my teeth. One thing to note: they no longer have unlimited pickled carrots and radish for grabs. They are portioned out in 2oz individual cups and you need to ask for them. Cash or card. No Tap-to-pay. Ice water is self served. To-go boxes are near the front. No additional services will be provided, that's just the service model. Don't need to buss your own table, but you need to go up and pay when ready. Parking is tight, very small as they share the same lot with multiple businesses. No RSVP, there will be a wait if their 10 tables are full. Enjoy!

Teriyaki Chicken! Super tasty good, broccoli, and cabbage so good! could use a bit more sauce! Or a side of Teriyaki sauce!

I enjoyed a great lunch with a friend at Jin Jin Deli. As other Yelpers have noted, there are 10 tables so you may need to wait to dine. My friend and I got lucky and got seated right away. The shopping center has a limited amount of parking. We got lucky with the parking as well. We got spring rolls, kimchi fried rice clay pot with beef, and the special spicy dry tossed noodle with egg noodles. The food was ready quickly. The spring rolls were tasty. The fried rice was fantastic. I loved the crispy rice at the bottom of the pot and it was so flavorful. The noodles came with some sauce to pour over. They were delicious and had a good amount of meat in them. They weren't very spicy but that was okay. Overall, I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant and I could see it being a great take out spot as well.

After going to this place for years, Jin Jin has definitely become a reliable, comfort hole-in-the-wall restaurant between my friends and I. Offering a variety of Asian fusion dishes for a really affordable price, I love going here when I just want a cozy place to get food. I'm not sure about the current dine-in situation because the last time I went here was a while ago, but when I did go, they only had limited seating. Definitely not as much seating as pre-COVID but you could still dine-in if you wanted to! The service is really sweet and pretty fast and always reliable. I love that they have Korean, Chinese, Thai, Japanese ,and Vietnamese food so you can choose whichever you want based on your mood. And, the appetizers are amazing too. A great place for a rainy day or when you want some warm comfort food. :)

I ordered through DoorDash and went with the Vegan Pho and salad rolls. On the positive side, they were generous with the tofu, which is more than I can say for a lot of restaurants. Unfortunately, both dishes seemed to have the same secret ingredient: salt. And then a little more salt. The pho broth was already pretty salty when it arrived, but somehow managed to become even saltier overnight. By breakfast the next morning, I was pretty sure it could have been used to preserve historical artifacts. The salad rolls were packed with tofu, which I appreciated, but whatever marinade was used had enough sodium that my old horse Mika probably would've mistaken it for a salt lick.
