Lees is definitely where it's at if you're in the mood for fragrant, perfectly baked bánh mì aka baguettes. If we're talking about just the baguette, there's literally nothing that compares to Lees in the area, and for buy 2 get 1 free- good luck trying! Their baguettes are buttery, fragrant, and has a soft pillowy inside with the perfect bread crunch on the outside. It's even good 3 days later if you lightly toast it! Their Vietnamese coffee definitely has depth and is caffeinated to the core, it'll wake you up with just one sip. It's authentic and is a no frills viet coffee. If you're in the mood for a sandwich, I would suggest the grilled pork, grilled chicken, and combination. All 3 of these are pretty solid and consistent. If you're in the area and are craving banh mi, coffee, or patechaud, dont pass Lee's sandwiches up! read more

If having a Jollibee's is considered a sign of a strong Filipino community, then the Vietnamese equivalent is Lee's Sandwiches. Portland has quietly been a hub for the Vietnamese diaspora for decades and while Lee's is hardly considered the best spot for banh mi or snacks, it nevertheless is a useful marker of Portland's legitimacy of the growing Viet dining scene. While this location is neither the largest or the smallest, it has the same feels as a neighborhood cafe with a decent amount of seating. The place is clean and inviting, with a handful of workers who are assembling sandwiches and preparing pastries left and right. As with all Lee's, the bread is baked in-house. While it's a bit harder for my tastes, the biggest issue I find is that the banh mi stuffing is skimpy at best. Their special combination (dac biet) is still a go-to if needs be, but I find their other items such as beignets, banh cam, and pate so to be a better option. The cafe sua da, aka VIetnamese coffee is still some of the best and sweetest out there. Customer service is warm and pleasant. Speaking Vietnamese is not a requirement, but it certainly helps. Prices are average, but skew on the higher end. Parking is shared but there's usually no trouble finding spaces, especially at night. read more

Been to other Lee's in Vegas and Cali...and this location was definitely not up to par. I was really looking forward to getting fresh banquettes and banh mi, and we drove out of way to get here. Don't expect a friendly face. Felt like I was bothering them when placing my order. And it took quite a bit of time waiting for 3 banh mi. And usually it's packed with pickled veggies but they were extremely conservative. And the bread, it's flat. While we were waiting, one of the staff started sweeping the floor. I like the Hot baguette just come out from the stove when they have "Hot" sign on at the door. They're on sale once in a while, buy 2 get 1 free (just the Baguettes). It always crispy outside and soft inside. The best is if you dip it in the condensed milk or hot coffee/ Vietnamese Milk Coffee (they sell them here too). My favorite is number #11 (Special Combination) with extra Pate^, and Vietnamese Ice Milk coffee. It is delicious. I also like their Party Platters, options A, B, C all are ok. I usually stop in just for their iced coffee cuz it's so good. Not a huge fan of the sandwiches. A lot of times the bread is hard or stale when I get a sandwich so I only get coffee now. The service was fast and restaurant was clean. Parking lot isn't so great. It's always full and the spots are so tight and compact. My wife eats here many times where there are days which are good and not in terms of the food. However, today they missed an item in their combination baguette that did not have Cha Lua. It comes with only two types of meat, which I find very hard that they could have missed it. There was only a few customers when I went in. Find that very dissatisfying. I needed a place that would satisfy an Asian craving as well as a non-Asian option for the girlfriend. So why not banh-mis where they serve European sandwiches. I had high hopes for this place. First of all I was super impressed that you get the option for them to cut the sandwich in 1/2, 1/3 or 1/4. I got it in 1/4 thinking I would be too full after eating two pieces. Nope I was wrong. This location is very clean and newer than most of the locations I've seen in SoCal. I ordered the #1 Combination, #9 Sardine, and #4 Grilled Chicken Banh Mi ($4.49 each) along with a Thai Milk Tea ($3.49) and Vietnamese Coffee ($3.99). The wait time for my order was only 5-7 mins and there was plenty of parking in the private lot. The banh mi were decent since the protein ingredients were flavorful. The sardine was soft and briny, but wasn't a sodium overdose. The grilled chicken had hints of charred flavor and tender. The combination jambon meat had a deli-like texture with a slight creamy spread of pate to add a meaty flavor. For the price of $4.49 a banh mi, I felt the protein ingredients were very sparse in comparison to the large amounts of pickled daikon, carrots, cilantro, and jalapeno. The size of the banh mi was around 11 in length and 2.5 in width. The Thai Tea and Lee's Coffee were absolutely delicious and quenched my thirst immediately. The Thai Tea wasn't too sweet and had a creamy flavor from the splash of half and half. The coffee was sweet from the condensed milk, which complemented the shots of dark espresso very well. I love their sandwiches! Everytime I come to Portland I always stop by just for the freshly baked baguettes & of course an ice coffee. The coffee is so addicting but super strong be prepared to feel jittery lol. If your not from around the area or if you don't have a lees around they also sell the coffee frozen at Costco! I usually just get the pork & pate banh mi & grilled pork. I'm sure they are all good thanks to the fresh baguettes. I also decided to try the pork pastry today, super buttery & flaky but the filling was just tiny for my liking. Overall service was good area is clean & everything is always consistent! They have really good Vietnamese Iced Coffee! Let's just say if you want to try something sweet and with a caffeine kick. This is your go to! The coffee they use is great with good flavor! The coffee here is so good. It's really strong and sweet. It's a little expensive for how much you get (the cup is mostly ice), but it's super tasty and caffeinated. I always get the regular coffee. It's been many years since I've had Lee's sandwiches. Visiting family in California, I've had my share of Lee's sandwiches. Today, I picked up some combinations, #1, sandwiches for lunch (for a coworker and to bring home). Once I got back to the office, I opened the sandwich and noticed how skimpy they are with the ingredients. One piece of meat, and a little bit of cilantro. Carrots and daikon were sufficient. However, the bread is really good. Nice and crispy outside and soft insides. I've given 3 stars for the lack of ingredients, but the flavors and bread saved it. I'm not sure if I would go back, as I have had better experiences at Best Baguette (Beaverton). The service was nice and quick though. The pastry items were limited at the time I visited (12pm) and stock of other items on the floor were limited as well. My only gripe is, they need to put more protein in the sandwiches. I placed a pre-order to be picked up at 5:30 I get to the store they tell me they do not have half of the things that I ordered I ordered a bag of beignets. ordered veggie rolls I ordered two sandwiches and I ordered a honey green milk tea. To add Onto it all they have on their website and in the store that they are giving healthcare workers and first responders a free sandwich and free drink I walk in in scrubs and it with my badge and they charge me still full price. Super glad when this finally came to town. Great strong coffee you can buy by the bottle and sip at your leisure. Also just tried they're new drinks today. The mango smoothie with spicy chunky bites was a surprising welcomed addition and the orig milk tea with bubbles delivered. It did help that it was in a cute old school glass milk bottle (+$1.50). Be mindful of where you sit--there is a chilling breeze if you sit too close to the door when I opens and there are ventilation ducts that point downward over some tables. They have snacks and drinks available for purchase scattered about. Service: grab non-sandwich items that you push to purchase, order and pay at the front, seat yourself, your number will be called by a PA system. They have no teas or bubble teas (at least when I went around noon on a Saturday). Only smoothies were available. You can't really go wrong with any sandwich type--it's just the that they skimp out on the toppings, especially the protein. I always love the pickled carrots/radish and cilantro in the sandwiches. I remember this chain being so hot back in the day and in California. It was mildly popular after moving to Oregon, but if I recall correctly, it was so unpopular that the Hillsboro location had to close. I like the texture of the sandwich and how it's crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, but this is not the case if you buy and save to sandwich to eat the following day (it is rock hard). I like the taste of everything, but the atmosphere is just so ghetto. There's always old men smoking outside of the shop and inside the shop smells like cigarettes because customers sitting inside smoked before they came in. A chain for bahn mis? I can't say that I'd heard of Lee's prior to walking in but they have stores in California, Colorado and Texas to name a few states. Bahn mis have always been in one off stores with just Vietnamese families usually running the business. I've been to An Xuyen, Bihn Mihn a few other local places and love the food out of all of them. So how does a company with 55 stores compare? Surprisingly pretty good. House made mayo? Check. House made pickled carrots and daikon? Check. A 12" French bread roll? Check. I was quite surprised, pleasantly at that. You even have the option of getting regular sandwiches like turkey or roast beef (they refer to those as European sandwiches) There's even a mini grocery store of sorts where you can purchase Vietnamese sausages, coffee, the house made mayo, desserts, bread and other ethnic items. As for my bbq pork sandwich? It was really good. All of the above mentioned items, plus cilantro, jalapenos, salt, pepper and a splash of soy sauce. The last being different from other bahn mis I have had in PDX. The roll was a bit sturdier than some of the one off places and nice and crispy. There was plenty of pork and lots of crunchy veggies. The price was very much in line for this type of food and and the fried banana I got to accompany was really tasty as well. The two together was barely $5. I keep finding new food up and down 82nd. I am a huge Lee's fan!! I've been to many locations across the country. The Bahn Mi is delicious and always fresh. I think the fresh baguette is what really makes Lee's stand out from its competitors. However, the last 5 times I've been to this specific location they've been completely out of boba. I drive 35-40 minutes just to come here and I'm disappointed each time when I can't get a boba tea with my order. Last night they didn't have any textures in stock besides rainbow jellies. The iced coffee is delicious so at least they have other drink options that are tasty. However I just can't look past this issue anymore and wanted to leave a review. I am loyal to Lee's but if they're always out of things (which if you read the other reviews it seems like a pattern) then I might have to make the switch to Best Baguette. read more

The place was disorganized, stock boxes all over the front of the restaurant, and it was just dirty. They had a plastic swinging barrier at the cashier which was dirty and broken.
