Came back with a friend of ours who say it's their 'go-to' and that they're going through a change of management. I honestly think it's gotten worse now than before. Our server was awful. Barely approach us and at the initial greeting, she didn't say anything and just stood there. Very awkward. Meat selection isn't the best honestly compared to other Korean bbq. Actually I wouldn't even consider the place Korean bbq. They changed their buffet to cater to Mexican food. The buffet has taco stands now along with other Mexican entrees. Their ventilation is not all that great either so just be mindful if you're going somewhere afterwards. Honestly, I would never come back. I never did try this spot when it first opened, and after wanting to branch out from the usual, I decided on this place for lunch. My friend and I were a bit worried getting there at 11:30, as there weren't really many other diners. Luckily it did pick up quite a bit. After entering, my first impression was that they were doing too much! Besides the kbbq and hotpot, they also offered some Mexican, sushi, and random ready to eat hot items on the buffet including a fried station. None of it was really impressive, even the banchan section. My main issue was they had large mounds of food out that probably wasn't going to stay fresh long as there's not enough turnover. Our server told us that they have a special right now of $19.99 flat for the dinner options as well. Lucky us! We definitely took advantage of that for the galbi! The beef belly was also nice and crisps up well. We had an option of the built in grill or an over the tables version brought out. While we had originally chosen the built in grill, but ours kept flickering on and off during the first round. We then switched to an over the table stove, which also had issues! The restaurant is not what's advertised in social media, when we got there they were missing half of the stuff that they announce and very poor quality, me and my wife both got food poisoning from the food not being fresh or kept well, there is a lot of cross contamination and staff are rude because they need more personnel but it's not the customers fault to be treated bad. What was once Jin, is now Bon. AYCE KBBQ wasn't much of a thing in HTown up until a handful of years ago and Jin was one of the few local chains that was leading up the charge. As the full rebrand went into a effect a couple of years ago, the change didn't seem to stop at the name. Whatever the hypothetical reasonings behind the name (#1), it has likely resulted in everything they don't want. On the surface, it might seem like not much has changed. The format is still a mix of a la carte and self-serve buffet with limited service. Anyone who remembers what it was like during the Jin days will soon see that the food quality has gone down, the prices have gone up, and the service has not gotten better. Even first timers are likely to notice something. The meats are the biggest tragedy. Whether it's the funk from the marinated meats, or the subpar variety, I really long for better days on their end. It seems that either they have changed management or started a whole revamping but either way I am all here for it! Now, they offer KBBQ, hotpot, and a taco bar! The concept is amazing especially for the price you get right now in their soft launch month of April. The service is amazing once you finally get someone, all of the servers were super nice. I think they are in the process of hiring and training more staff. I will say I think maybe they can refine their system or hire more people because sometimes the wait for items took a bit long to get to our table. The wait at the taco bar also took some time because there was only one person working it. We had to flag someone down for utensils and for our meats. Some items just never came. The broth was never ready and the wait for it was half an hour, I think that is so unacceptable, The meats were fresh, the hotpot broths were delicious once we finally got some (tom yum could use some more spice and sourness), but I wish that the hot food on the buffet bar was more fresh. They even have a buffet line too with hot and cold items such as kimchi, gimbap, fried chicken, and other banchan. However, many of the hot items were room temp/lukewarm, which was not great but it still tasted fine. This place has seen a lot of changes over the years, even its name. I feel the quality has slightly dropped also, but otherwise Bon continues to be consistently decent. It's a nice modern interior, and service is always fast since you have the tableside light so signal a waiter over. The lunch AYCE is pretty good value. Still a decent selection of meats and sides, although the meats that sometimes remain frozen when it gets to your table isn't as high quality as many other kbbq places I've been to. My biggest gripe is the dessert drink (shikeh). It's included in the unlimited menu and is one of my favorite things there, but they cut you off after 2 orders even though it doesn't say anywhere that there's a limit. With that being said, my own experience left me feeling a bit torn The variety is impressive, you can grill, simmer, roll, or build your meal however you want. It's a fun concept and could be all the crave with the right execution. The service was decent, folks were polite and helpful even during busy moments. However, the floors really need some work. Walking between stations shouldn't feel slippery, and the greasy feel made the place seem less clean than it probably is. Also there were too many empty trays and food that looked like it had been sitting out too long. Especially at the sushi station. With all the food options, it's understandable that the folks might get overwhelmed, but that's exactly why someone dedicated to refilling and rotating food would good. This concept is ambitious, and the execution shows signs of being overwhelmed. Again perhaps worth trying at least once just for the novelty. But a return visit for me I'd need to know that more attention is being paid to cleanliness and food rotation. read more

The service at this restaurant wasn't great. We ordered chicken wings, chicken, pork, and short ribs, but the server only brought us the short ribs and chicken, missing the wings and pork entirely. I couldn't even find the server to talk about this, which was really frustrating. To be honest, the food didn't taste very good either--the short ribs, in particular, had a strange flavor. When they brought us the bill, they counted my children as adults. I had to point this out so they could correct the bill. One of the better AYCE KBBQ spots in Houston. Quality meat selection at a good price make for a great value. The dinning area is very large so we've never had trouble seating and we've never felt rushed like some other places. They have a button you can push and a waitstaff will quickly come to take your order for more meat. While there are a lot of options you can self-serve like the bulgogi and spicy pork, the better options are ordered. The beef tongue is my favorite. Beef belly, pork belly, pork cheeks, galbi and beef brisket are all good too. One lesser known option is the pineapple galbi, it's a relatively large cut of meat and the pineapple is great grilled. I think it was tacos and chips and queso. This restaurant is now under new management, so we decided to give it a try for Korean cuisine. When we arrived around 6 pm, there were only about 4-5 tables occupied. They had specials advertised, but the Chinese/Korean side buffet was very disappointing. The trays were not being refilled, and the food that was out looked like it had been sitting for hours--not fresh at all. We asked about the Korean BBQ, and while they did provide us with a menu, the experience was underwhelming. The grill heating elements were very slow, so it took a long time to cook the meat, which made the whole dining experience frustrating and not enjoyable. For the price, it's just not worth it. I would rather go to another Korean restaurant that serves fresh, high-quality food and provides a better BBQ experience. read more

You go in and there's lots of already cooked offerings like kimchi fried rice and already cooked meats! There's also a buffet table with raw items you can cook on the grill at your table - meat sitting out like this was a bit weird to me, but there is ice beneath the raw stuff! You can also order meats to be brought out to you, which I don't see why they don't just do this?! The grill didn't get very hot, seemed like a gas grill vs charcoal.. the food was alright, not very high quality meat, but the fiancé and kiddo loves the marinated kalbi and they give you pretty good portions of it per order. Lots of options.. service was good, they don't bother you too much and make sure they get you want you need, even when they're starting to close shop.. there's a bar just full of sauces as well for your meats! I have been here when it was Jin Korean BBQ many years ago. Just recently, I noticed name changed to Bon KBBQ. According employee, it was just a name change. No wonder most reviews still carry the old name. Either way, same style and same affordable priced buffet meal. I came here today was because I didn't want to fight traffic to eat spicy food at the other side of town. One thing I like about Bon KBBQ is the parking and location. All you can eat doesn't attract me. I would rather limit myself to 35 minutes or I'll be full like a potbelly pig. Two things I don't like about this restaurant are the ventilation and thickness of cuts. My shirt stunk like I worked in the kitchen cooking for hours. I normally like to cook my own food at the table. But this time, I worried about eating half cooked pork and chicken. Because I overcooked my meats, they were tough. Yikes. For the price point it's pretty good. Dinner is $29.99 for kbbq and hot pot. If you want hot pot, they bring out the burner/pot to your table. There were 3 or 4 broth options. I had the spicy tofu one and it wasn't super flavorful. Only ate a little bit and then asked the waiter to take it away. There are a lot of meats in the buffet line and many premium meats you can order (all included). Meat quality was normal for kbbq. There are also a lot of cooked dishes like kimchi fried rice, different stir frys and breaded chicken dishes. The kimchi fried rice wasn't great. The chicken dishes were ok. There are also soups. So the buffet is pretty extensive. So many sauces for dipping as well. The place has tvs and lots of cool lighting. Service was good. No issues there. Overall, it was ok. I'd go back and try some different meats. We don't get to try a variety of meats because the portions of meat you order with the waiter are huge. So beware of this. Ok, this all you can eat (AYCE) Korean BBQ establishment is so unique from any other place I've been to. They have a plethora of items in a buffet style area that you can take as well as a few other meats that you can order. The buffet area allows you to get your dipping sauces, banchan, side dishes, and several raw and prepared meats. This is great as you can try small amounts of many things. Then, when you get to your table you can order more meats such as brisket, pork belly, beef belly, and LA galbi. To signal the staff to assist you, simply turn on your light at your table. Speaking of staff, I've never had better staff being so attentive and friendly. The main host personally took us around the buffet area to show us how it worked and what the layout was like. Servers at our table kept our drinks topped off and the meats coming. Now the food itself was incredible. For the price of $28 per person for dinner, it's a great value. The beef brisket and belly is so soft and juicy and fatty. The LA galbi is an absolute must if you want some of the tastiest meat out there. And all the bulgogi at the buffet area is excellent. I love how dude dishes are prepared and available for you to take such as soups, different fried rices, prepared bulgogi, and at least several dozen sauce options. And I love how the bbq restaurants all have a different theme and feel. Jin Korean BBQ is the fourth Korean BBQ place I have tried since moving to Houston. As you can see from the photos, this place is kind of trendy and modern. They have bbq grills at each table. You go up to the "buffet" to get whatever uncooked meats you want and then you grill them yourself. They also have a menu where you can order items they cook for you such as chicken wings. I love that they had LA Garbi too!! I liked how this place also had a huge assortment of side dishes, noodles, rice, veggies, soups, etc. Yes, I had kimchi and it was good. Hahah. The only challenge is making sure we had enough room at our table for 4 people and all their plates. The servers came around regularly to pick up old plates and to check on us. This is my first time here. Service staff was very kind to explain how the buffet works. Food is divided into sections of cooked food, raw marinated meats, and salad bar. They have soups, pumpkin porridge, white rice, and ice cream too. Food is mainly self-service but they have other thin sliced meats which can be ordered from the menu. They also have alcohols if you like. The meat quality was so-so. The marinated beef bulgogi especially, reminded me of the one I could get from Costco. The cooked food reminded me of food I could get from Costco or food that came out of big cans or containers. For the buffet price, I would say it was worth it. I ordered the lychee soju cocktail thinking that it would just be in a small glass. I was shocked to be served a carafe. The soju cocktail tasted more of soda than soju, and not much lychee taste. Restaurant could lower down the volume of the background music more so that I didn't have to keep shouting to my friend who was just sitting opposite me. I love the variety of this Korean bbq spot. My favorites are the bulgogi and beef belly. I really enjoyed the various sides and other options in the buffet section. Definitely get some samjang and salt with sesame oil to dip your meats in. The kimchi radish and potato salad are really tasty.
