I had some extra time while I was down there on business and decided to find a place to have a 2 hour lunch lol.. The location is almost in a neighborhood which could be a good thing if I lived there. It reminded me of the average Louisiana Cajun restaurant. All of the staff were polite, friendly and professional. Everything on the menu seemed so good, I didn't know what to choose from. I finally narrowed it down to the crawfish pot pie and BOYYYY WAS THAT A GOOD CHOICE! Excellent crust, very delicious flavors and I would kill for that pie crust! They lost a star because of their below average gumbo. It was bad and I mean bad. I hardly wanted to eat it after the first taste but who am I to let good Gumbo go to waste?!? There was four of us and we thoroughly enjoyed the friendly service. Reese was our server and he explained the different dishes we were interested in having. We ordered the shrimp Tasso; blackened chicken penne; the daily special of the blackened Papago fish with bum buere Blanc over grilled asparagus; and the seafood creole Cobb salad. The staff was friendly and informative and the food was so good we wished we could order it all over again. Was spending the evening in Lafayette while on a cross country road trip. Wanting some good local cuisine, I couldn't help but notice the great reviews Bon Temps received on Yelp. So I decided to check them out. I was pleasantly surprised. It was a fairly small place that pinged high on all marks, the atmosphere, staff, food, and value. There was a slight wait on a Saturday night but I decided to eat at the bar. I ordered the Etoufee Crawfish Pot Pie. DELICIOUS! The crust was baked just right and had tasty but not overpowering spices that gave it a little kick. I ordered the jalapeno grits as a side. I received a comically sarcastic look from the bartender when I asked if they were instant grits. I had a couple of local beers on draft. The restaurant was cozy, and not overly touristy. I was very impressed with the prices which was approximately 25 to 30% lower than what I would expect. If I am ever in town again I will definitely be back. read more

College weekend! Touring University of Louisiana, and wanted to eat some great local food. Found out this place lives up to its high ratings. When we were leaving for dinner, I asked the desk hostess at our hotel if Bon Temps was a good place to eat, and her eyes lit up and told us we chose very well! And she taught me how to pronounce the name! I was excited! My husband loves meatloaf. Bon Temps has a meatloaf like none he had ever tried, and wow! Flavored with just enough cajun spice, and served up with their hot red potatoes. Daughter had a burger, and I tried a sausage plate with andouille and boudin, and a cup of gumbo. This is an amazing Louisiana style restaurant! The food portions are on the larger side to help fill your belly up. The customer service is AMAZING! We where being waited on by Amy and she was very knowledgeable about all of the dishes! And made great recommendations based on what we where in the mood for. The crawfish etouffee pot pie was amazing in my opinion! Very hot when it was served and nice and spicy, the breading was cooked to perfection! After we where don't with our lunch we asked for the check. During this time a group of 13 people entered the establishment and about half where kids. The kids managed to spill three drinks within a span of 10 minutes. The staff where quick to clean up the mess. We then asked for to-go boxes, which the server went ahead and grabbed our plates to put in the boxes herself! Then the children spilt another drink on my sisters shoes (which was chocolate milk (yay)) after the staff cleaned up the children's mess and my sisters shoes, the check came and she had given us a free voucher for a free appetizer, as well as fresh warm garlic bread and a free slice of cheese cake even though it wasn't their fault. Not my favorite spot! The food was average and didn't live up to the pictures. The kids burger was a slider. The sugar dish had a hair on it. I can't really seem to find a positive. I ordered red fish with a side of grits and sage sweet potatoes. The sides were delicious. However, the fish was sketchy and dry. My husband ordered the meatloaf poboy and he said it tasted "ok." I normally stay in New Orleans when I visit Louisiana for work. This time, I had the good fortune to find myself staying a night in Lafayette, which is what gave me the opportunity to visit Bon Temps. After seeing such stellar reviews from other Yelpers, I couldn't resist. I arrived and had a good feeling. It just looks like the kind of neighborhood, off the beaten path place that has the potential for some really authentic, and delicious, local Cajun flavor. Happy people were leaving with undoubtedly full stomachs and the place was abuzz with eager diners. I had a seat at the bar and was greeted by a very friendly bartender. She offered the day's special in addition to the menu, and at my request made some suggestions. The decision was quite difficult. When you see the menu, you will understand. Everything just looks so wonderful and interesting. After much consideration, I decided on the crab cake appetizer and crawfish étouffée pot pie. Yes,that is correct, I said crawfish étouffée pot pie! I also asked for a link of boudin, as this is one of the things I like to try pretty much everywhere I go in Louisiana. Holy smokes! The crab cake is unlike anything I have ever experienced before. A wonderful, crunchy flavorful outer crust filled with the most incredible, rich, creamy crab center. This combined with the bright creamy sauce and touch of hot sauce served on the plate was amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed every single bite. It was a perfect balance of flavors! The boudin was good. Lots of flavor, but a little salty for my taste. To each his own. Now to the pot pie. Imagine a bowl of rich, delicious crawfish étouffée with rice with a light, delicate, buttery and flaky pastry, perfectly baked over the top and served with an extra helping of crawfish tails on top. Wow! Every bite was an experience to be savored and enjoyed. Needless to say at this point, I thoroughly enjoyed myself at Bon Temps. The place is full of liveliness, the staff are all very friendly and accommodating and the food in outstanding. Please come visit if you find yourself in Lafayette.
