And now that we have our daughter and wanted to celebrate her baptism, the Bonaventure brewing company was the first place that came to mind. **ALERT! This review is for the venue outside the Brewery, not the Bonaventure Hotel. ** I am SO grateful to have found this venue. It is truly a hidden gem in the middle of L.A. The views are fantastic and add a tremendous backdrop to any occasion. I had my book launch party here, and from the start, Jacey was very helpful and answered all my questions. Unfortunately she was not available for my event on the day of, however, Erica did a great job in her absence. We were able to come in early enough to decorate, and when we needed things moved around, the staff was right there to help. I had 100 guests, which fit us comfortably; I could have added more if needed. I had the taco buffet for dinner, and it was set up so smoothly. I never saw the staff going in and out, and the food was good! We also had bar services, and my family never complained of having to wait long for their drinks or of any high prices. Believe me when I say I spent a great deal of time looking for a venue, and this one not only worked great with our budget, but the spot was divine. We could reserve rooms at the Bonaventure, which was a perfect way to get ready before the party and the ideal way to keep the party going. After the event, we visited the Bona Vista Lounge for more spectacular views, a fourth meal, and drinks. My only gripe, or more of a warning, was the parking situation. Many of my guests were turned away from the hotel parking due to an event at the hotel and a concert in the area, so paid parking lots were full and hard to get into. I held my engagement party brunch here this past weekend, and it exceeded all my expectations. When I was searching for a venue, I was on a very tight budget. I had a vision of this beautiful outdoor setting, but with over 100 guests, I assumed I would have to let go of that vision. I didn't have to because I found Bonaventure Brewing Company (inside, but not to be confused with the Westin Bonaventure hotel). I reached out to Jacey who is the events coordinator, and she was so kind and helpful!!! The pricing was so affordable. You won't find a gorgeous place like this for that price anywhere. Trust me, I did a lot of searching. The outdoor setting with the greenery is such a beautiful vibe. Jacey, Erica, and the staff took such great care of us. They were very accommodating with setting up welcome sign easels, guestbook tables, memorial tables, a dessert table, etc. The bartenders and waiters were so attentive. I will never forget this day. Visiting the hotel for the first time. It has one of the nicest hotel lobbies in LA!

Just not good. At all. The atmosphere is dark, stuffy, and depressing, the beer sucks, and the menu is dated bar fare prepared averagely at best. It's got a musty, stale odor like many other areas in the hotel. However, what really makes this a 1 star experience was the absolutely atrocious service, some of the worst and also weirdest I've ever experienced. The FOH staff is like a sad little clique that nobody really acknowledges, and since they are clearly helping guests so infrequently, they don't really know how to interact with them appropriately, so the staff essentially hazes them instead. My husband and I were there on a weekend getaway for a Dodgers game and concert. We needed a quick snack before the game and decided to try this place purely out of convenience. There was only one other patron; bad start. The moment we sat down, FOH staff started repeating the same "you going to the Dodgers game?!" line to each other in this snide, disparaging tone that was obviously intended to make fun of us. It happened at least 8 times between 3 or 4 staff members. That's incredibly bizarre and completely unprofessional as it is, but it didn't stop there! Since we were provided about 60-90 total seconds of interaction from staff, they had plenty of time to just stand around bulls**ting about life. The gal decided to get into a very lengthy conversation with her colleague about some lawsuit against a former employer she had also slept with, and all the ins and outs of their history and in progress lawsuit! We left as quickly as possible, and she was still going when we exited. This place is a dump in every sense of the word. Stay far, far away (like a different hotel, perhaps). read more

Where do I even begin?! We had our wedding reception at the outdoor patio deck garden of the Bonaventure Brewing Co. I cannot express enough for perfect our day was! First of all, you can't beat the view from the circle garden. It is truly a hidden gem in LA and I can't believe this venue doesn't have more recognition on Yelp. The comment we kept getting from all of our guests that night was "this venue is so different from every other wedding I've ever been to". It's just memorable. We barely had decorations outside of the generic wedding table stuff, the venue itself is just stunning and you don't need to add much to make it look more beautiful. (We saved money on not buying real flowers - you don't even need them, it's that beautiful!) We planned our reception in two and a half months and it was all through their amazing event manager, Jacey. From day one of inquiring info via email, she was so kind, quick to respond throughout, informative, and easy to talk to. We knew right away she had plenty of experience and truly has it all together :) It made us feel at ease as far as setting our deadlines before the big day. We did our food tasting with Erica and she was so sweet and knowledgeable! She really took care of us with food and beer tastings. Absolutely everyone loved the food selection. We went with coconut shrimp and chicken skewers for appetizers, chimmichurri steak and honey pepper salmon for entrees, and mashed potatoes and veggies for sides. Everything was so good - but the steak was my personal fave! We had 80-85 quests and it felt like the perfect amount of people with seating. Not too cramped, very spacious while also feeling like it was so intimate and private as far as the venue itself was. As you look around you see the tall buildings surrounding you with hanging lights and beautiful greenery. Again - so memorable and unlike your typical "indoor hall" wedding. They even include cocktail tables, patio furniture, and heat lamps. Our wedding was at night in October and weather was PERFECT. We danced all night and had the absolute best DJ (not affiliated with the venue, but highly recommend Mike "DJ Space" if you look him up!) who really complimented the LA rooftop vibe. The price minimum is very reasonable considering what you're getting. We are still in awe of our special day and we could not be more happy of how the night went. Worth every penny. We didn't catch their names, but the server and bar staff that night took excellent care of us. At no point did we not have a full drink and they kept asking us (bride and groom) if we needed anything. You guys are amazing and made us feel so special. We recently had our wedding shower here and it was the perfect place to have it. We had around 120 people and it was just the right size venue. I didn't provide seating for all 120 since we had such a short event and most of our guests were up and about mingling around. And this was by my choice, they were more than willing to give me enough tables for everyone, but I wanted more standing room. The space is super beautiful, we didn't bring too much for decorations, mostly bud vases for the tables (will definitely post pictures when I get them). It's in a pretty private area. There was some sort of convention going on in the hotel and saw some people try to enter our event, but the staff were on top of it to make sure it was only our guests. Jacey is extremely easy to work with and answered all of my questions in a timely manner. On the day of our event, we had Erica manage it and she was great too and super easygoing. I love an event staff that helps makes things easier for you. My partner and I actually never visited this venue before booking and I wish I did, just so that I can give super clear instructions to our guests on how to find the venue. Everyone eventually found it, but it can feel a little like a maze inside the hotel. Everyone kept complimenting the venue and the location and we knew we chose the right spot for our wedding shower. read more

Sometimes you're exhausted from traveling and just want to eat in the hotel, I understand that. But find something elsewhere. The service was friendly but glacially slow and the food was awful (rubbery fish and chips, dry/grayish burgers, the saddest looking fish tacos I've ever seen) except for the steaks. Several beers on the list weren't available. They had the oddest assortment of chairs I've ever seen around a restaurant table (some really high, some really low...like a Goldilocks situation) and the ambiance sucked (think slightly sticky generic airport style restaurant without the hustle and bustle). I can only imagine the reviewers who described it as romantic are either A) referring the revolving restaurant on the 35th floor B) experiencing a separate vendor/caterer they use for weddings in the outdoor space C) on drugs. For a restaurant inside the (mostly vacant) retail side of a massive hotel, I was pretty impressed with Bonaventure Brewing. I was staying at this Westin for the LA Marathon and my boyfriend and I needed a quick bite to eat before we headed to the expo. We just went to the place nearest by, which happened to be in the hotel. Stopped in on a Friday during Lent and surprisingly, they had lots of great meatless options. I went with a Veggie Burger and my boyfriend got the fish & chips. I also had to order a beer, mostly because it's a Brewing Company, and also because their main beer is called "Marathon." Hello!?! Couldn't pass that up and I'm sure it helped fuel me to run 26.2 miles around LA a few days later. ;) The bartender was really awesome. I felt like he could have been really stressed trying to manage so many orders alone and their computer/credit card system kept failing. But he was so kind and upbeat. I would have been so overwhelmed if in his shoes! We sat outside out on the rooftop patio and had great weather and a decent view. Really enjoyed our lunch here! We also came back the next day for dinner just to eat a healthy meal before the race. I opted for the salmon. It originally came out undercooked, but as soon as I pointed that out to them, they quickly got me another one. I'd definitely recommend going during the day and sitting on the patio (at nighttime, it probably gets too cold to eat outside). Eating inside here is kinda depressing because it's only you and 2-3 other tables. I feel bad for the waitstaff and wish they got more business here. I for sure enjoyed my experience and would go back (but most likely only if I'm staying at the hotel). read more

As mentioned in a prior review, the first few levels of the Westin are pretty dark - Bonaventure is on the 4th floor (along with the pool) and provided the opportunity for some much needed sunlight. The seating is next to some great green space, the pool deck and an area for outdoor events. The addition of greenery was very welcome. I sampled some of their beer and wasn't really impressed, but enjoyed the food - the poke tostados were amazing. read more

This is an amazing wedding venue! We had such a great experience getting married here. The staff was all really helpful throughout the entire process, especially Jacey and Erica. On our wedding day everything ran SO smoothly and you can tell that everyone who works there is a pro at events. The chairs were moved from the ceremony area to the reception area in a matter of minutes and everything looked even better than I imagined it! I'm sure they were doing a million more things behind the scenes that I wasn't even aware of, and I didn't need to worry about a thing. The food is also excellent, even for an event with over 80 guests. I have dreams about how fantastic the cheesecake is here and the salmon was perfectly cooked too. The garden setting is perfect for an outdoor wedding in LA and I loved how many flowers were in bloom. This was a great wedding venue because we were able to personalize a lot of things and make it our own, but BBC took care of a lot of the details I didn't want to have to worry about myself (like hiring bartenders or ordering linens). Nobody bothered to sit us down (there is a "Please wait to be seated" sign) for a few minutes, then someone waved us in. Okay, whatever, we found a nice spot on the terrace/rooftop plaza. We waited for a long time and nobody came. The servers clearly saw us and made eye contact multiple times yet they didn't come over. The food selection looked decent but we weren't able to get any food (or drinks) in a reasonable timeframe. We left once a very loud argument started at the table next to us (behind the glass), that was our breaking point. If you're in the Westin Bonaventure hotel, try the other restaurants or just go downtown. read more
