Fun fast food. Enjoyed crispy, crunchy but tasty chicken, great fries. A quick carry-out meal for the family.

Last week in December 2021 we stopped for lunch at this spot just off Route 50 on N. Pershing Drive. We had a great time; tried the Sapporo and Tiger beers and enjoyed them immensely. For appetizers we had the Takoyaki (fried Octopus dumplings w a unique Korean twist) and the Potstickers. Both were outstanding. The potstickers were yummy with plenty of meat inside. We tried the Soy & Garlic Wings and the Chicken Strips. The wings have a wonderful crispy crunch and were extremely meaty. We had plenty of leftovers. All of the food was made fresh and arrived pipping hot. Food takes a bit to come out, so relax and enjoy. A note on the menu says our food takes 30 minutes to prepare. read more

Love the fact they are going digital ordering and payment. Their implementation is really not the best way to go about it. Think about going to a restaurant with 3 friends and the logistics of ordering. The Bonchon is really transferring the process to the customers probably as a means to cut staff. Foremost, the staff is super friendly. No complaints. Seated instantly and directed to the ordering process and was told "if you want to use your phone". If you use your phone, Bonchon is nickel-and-dimeing for everything. No sauce, rice or other items included in a meal cost. No substitutions. Not to mention cost went up. Significantly. Ordering for your table is is prepay and pretip 20% preselected. Pretty presumptuous. Without being locked in to the highly encouraged "App-Experience" and requesting to order the with the staff was almost like talking another language. It was really not expected that someone would prefer to order with the staff. And the minimized staff made it hard to locate and speak to someone. I am not a usual fan of the food. The noodles and friend rice is also good, but I would definitely recommend the chicken. Bonchon is hit or miss for me. If the chicken is perfectly cooked, it's an instant hit and worthy of a 5 star review. Unfortunately on my most recent visit and many previous visits, a majority of the chicken strips we received was overcooked and dry. A tip to the chef - I think that more sauce would make the dry chicken more enjoyable. According to the menu, sauces are not available on the side. We also ordered the pork buns which were very good and perfectly cooked! These are a bit spicy if you choose to order them. Final thoughts, the soy garlic flavor is absolutely delicious and I recommend this sauce for your fried chicken. If you are okay eating around bones - try the wings or drumsticks as they are less likely to be overcooked. You may be disappointed, as I was, if you order the strips. read more

Wow! My last review was in 2014... Not only do I still love Bonchon to satiate my fried chicken craving after six years, but it's now my hubby's favorite fried chicken as well (and he's a southern boy!). Had a craving for korean fried chicken even though it's probably not the healthiest food I could be eating now. I went to pick up food on the first day that Bonchon closed the restaurant but still allowing deliveries and pickups. Got spicy and garlic soy wings and drumsticks. Shells were very crispy and with a good amount of sauce. Loved them! Didn't like the side dishes very much (kimchi slaw and pickled daikon). Want to keep supporting local restaurants in a difficult period. When I arrived there were no staff near the cash registers, I can see people working in the kitchen through a door but despite my waving and yelling "hi", no one can hear me and come out to the registers. I think I waited about 3 minutes and decided to see if I can self-check out on the touch screen system. The restaurant smell funny but the food was good and very quick service. I ordered spicy rice cake, salmon roll and french fries. The spicy rice cake portion was a good size for two people but a bit spicy if you cannot eat spice. French fries was crispy and fresh. Service was quick and responsive as long as you can get a hold of them. It can take a bit of time for someone to finally see us because there were a lot of people. Amaze-balls. Everything was soooo good! We got the medium Bonchon Chicken meal which comes with 8 drumsticks. You can get them spicy, soy garlic or half and half! The spicy is definitely hot but with a sweet ting to it. For sides to share, we got the potstickers, parmesan fries, and onion rings. My favorite out of the sides would have to be the fries. They were nice and crispy on the outside while moist and soft on the inside, one order is enough for two people. The potstickers were also delicious and can get them in both sauce flavors as well (spicy and soy garlic) so of course we did half and half on it. Finally, the onion rings. Also incredibly delicious. They were crispy and paired well with the special dipping sauce (aka crack sauce because it's crazy good). The portion size is appropriate for a shareable appetizer or a very hungry individual. I came here at 12 noon on a Sunday and was seated immediately. I ordered the small combo in soy garlic, which in my opinion is the best sauce. The service was quick and friendly and the prices are definitely reasonable (around $11 for the small combo which is 2 drumsticks and 4 wings). Only one negative: this place is too close to my apartment! OMGGGGGGGGG everything was amazing. Our server was so nice! It was our first time there so he let us know a game plan of what we should order. We did a fried chicken combo: two drums, four flats. We got two flavors, the spicy and the sweet. Easily the best wings I have ever had in my life. They were SO CRISPY AND STILL SO JUICY. The spicy isn't unbearable & most importantly still has flavor and the pickled radish as a side helps you calm the spice right down. The sweet flavor is delish and not overly sweet perfect combo of savory & sweet. The seasoned fries are a great addition if you want to do a traditional wings & fries meal. We loved the fries because they were crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside and overall perfectly seasoned. NOW for the other items we ordered... I know the fried chicken is supposed to be the star of the show here... but let me tell you about the Bull-Dak (which literally stands for fire chicken.) This is a SPICY dish but the flavor is so amazing you literally can't stop eating it even though your mouth is on fuego. It is delicious. Came here on a Saturday morning shortly after they opened. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our server was the bartender so she wasn't as attentive as she could have been but other staff came and checked on us periodically as well. Everyone was very friendly and professional. The server brought us tap water which was not good so I ordered a lemonade. The lemonade was just how I like it! Not too tart and not too sweet. The food takes a while to come out but you should expect this because they have to fry their chicken twice. We got the spicy wings, soy garlic wings and soy garlic strips. The spicy wings are definitely spicy but nothing too bad. The soy garlic is my favorite. It's just a hint of garlic and the perfect amount. Bonchon is consistently tasty and well-priced. Their wings are always crispy and tender, but some can be on the smaller end. They are generously seasoned without being drenched in sauce. Bonchon's wings are, in my opinion, better than BBQ Chicken in Falls Church, ANJU, and CHIKO in DuPont, Bibimix in Rosslyn, Choong Man in H Street, and they rival those of BUL in Adams Morgan (this review will be updated after I go to KoChix). Their restaurant is very clean, service is quick, and other items like their pork buns and japchae noodles are also good. As I said previously, if you want a reliably good soy garlic wing that is meaty, crispy, and tender, going to Bonchon is always a safe bet. Drove to the Bonchon Annandale location first & it was seemingly abandoned with a whole shopping cart on fire in the parking lot lol so this Bonchon will be my go to **** My mind has been changed about Bonchon. Had one bad experience in Waldorf & always avoided it. Although, i do prefer Pelicana still- so many choices for other types of food & the bar is good as hell. Out of all the Bonchons I've been to, this location is the best. Their seasoned fries are delicious and not over fried like I've experienced at some Bonchons. If I'm particularly hungry I'll usually get an order of seasoned fries to go along with my meal; the portion size is definitely shareable. I always order the same entree at Bonchon: small order of spicy wings with sides of coleslaw and steamed rice. The chicken at this location always comes out hot and fresh and the flavor is always on point. The sides are good too - I've gotten mushy/overly wet rice at some locations, never here. The coleslaw is fine. The service at the bar is always fast and friendly. They have a pretty good drink selection; this summer they were stocking a Rosè cider which was particularly good. They place off nicely off each other. The skin is nicely crispy even though it's smothered in delicious sauce. It isn't overly heavy. It's really quite good. Wings are better than drumsticks because the skin to meat ratio is higher. But the drumsticks are still nicely done. The kimchi coleslaw is creamy and goes well with the fried chicken. The sweet ginger salad is large and goes well with the chicken to balance it out. The spicy rice cakes with fish cakes and melted cheese and chives is a good version of the street food snack, wIth the rice cakes nicely chewy, and a couple of tempura sticky rice filled seaweed rolls thrown in that are delightful. The first thing that came out was the fries. It was crunchy just the way I liked it. They gave out two diff sauce one was ketchup and the other well.. idk but I liked it! Since the fries came out perfectly crisp we knew the fried chicken wings were going to be delicious. I did the half and half wings so it was the spicy one and the soy garlic kind. It also came out with the radishes which was great because it calmed down my tongue when it got too spicy. It's like an alternative to milk but radishes won't fill you up! We first tried this place at the beginning of pandemic and since then has been something that we frequently crave. The chicken is perfectly crispy and the spicy sauce is full of flavor (and spice). The food holds up really well delivered. Sadly this Bonchon location has really gone down in quality lately. They stopped giving rice with your orders (a cheap move IMO) and the chicken has been extremely hit or miss. For example, last night we got an order of 20 strips and they were soggy/had no flavor at all. They clearly had been sitting out (completely cold) and were bland beyond belief. Last time we ordered, they gave us a bunch of strips that were HALF the size of the normal strips which was a total ripoff. For the price, it's just not worth it. Bonchon Snowday! Visited this Bonchon location yesterday with 2 other friends and this is the 4th Bonchon location I've been to so you can say that I am a Bonchon fan. I enjoy going to different locations of the same restaurant to see if they upkeep and maintain the quality of the products because we all need some consistency in our lives, am I right?! My 2 other friends have never been to a Bonchon nor ever had Korean fried chicken so I took it upon myself to take them so they can try the yummy goodness Bonchon has to offer. I ordered the fried chicken wings with a side of the parmesan garlic fries. It tasted just like I remembered it the last time I had Bonchon which was last year! My one friend got the strips and the other friend got the same fried chicken wings. The person working at the bar (where we sat) gave my friends one chicken finger and one wing that has the "spicy" flavor so that they can try it without committing to a whole plate. VERDICT: Both friends enjoyed their experience and I am most definite they will come back again! We came home and they ate their leftovers almost right immediately even though they kept saying that they were sooooo full. We all agreed that there must be crack on Bonchon wings because it is VERY addicting. The service was great, good price and also good drinks! We love the cocktails and we will come back again in the future to try happy hour. This is one of the better Bonchons in the DMV area! The fried chicken is crispy and made to order. There is an indoor and outdoor sitting area with a bar as well! It's usually never too crowded so I always get a table right away whenever I go. For 2 people, I get their small size wings/drumsticks in half and half. They have soy sauce flavor and spicy flavor, you have an option to get one or both. Warning: spicy is really spicy! If you cant handle spice, I would just get the soy sauce flavor. I had friends who got the spicy one and couldnt eat more than one. I usually get pickled radish with my chicken order because it makes the chicken better! It gets rid of the oily taste of the chicken and allows you to eat more. I always get their parmesan fries, even when I to go it. It comes with spicy mayo-like sauce and ketchup but theyre both good to dip in. If you're to go-ing the fries, dont close the box so that the fries dont get soggy! The size of the wings were the smallest I have ever had at a korean fried chicken place in the dmv area. The flavor was good but the size was pitiful. Ordered the salmon avocado ball, which was supposed to be avocado, cucumber and imitation crab salad covered completed by charred salmon. Instead, we got, one piece salmon hanging on top, maybe four pieces of small cubed avocado and a whole lot of cucumber and imitation crab. Should have just been named the cucumber and imitation crab ball. Fries were great. Location is clean and service is good, but really hard to get over the quality of the wings and the quantity of the ingredients in the salmon dish. Try a different location instead. read more

Guys, run. My wife ordered the family xl combo for our dinner this past Sunday evening. I was already out so I ended up picking up the online order she made. We usually pick this location because others are inconsistent. After I picked it up and was taunted by the yummy smelling food the whole car ride home, we were ready to feast! Never have I been so disappointed. We opened it and remember, this is an XL family combo, meaning double the sides of fries and coleslaw. Tell me why the TWO boxes of fries were barely filled halfway. I found myself saying out loud, are you kidding? Fine. Then I went to look for the coleslaw and wow! You know when you order a side of guacamole from chipotle, the clear plastic container? I kid you not that BOTH sides of the coleslaw was in two of these. And to round off this massive disappointment, I ended up counting the number of chicken we received because...why not? And of course, we were missing one drumstick and one chicken wing. Guys, I'm not even a stickler about these things and I know wings are a hot commodity right now but realize that this whole combo is $45. The least they can do is get it right. The only fried chicken I always crave for - BONCHON! I've been to other locations in NOVA and this one is by far the most organized and cleaniest Bonchon I've been to. Staff are nice and service is quick! Chicken was HOT, JUICY, CRUNCHY on the outside and JUICY on the inside. Rawr. One thing I noticed, though, was the large wings weren't as LARGE as the other Bonchon restaurants I went to BUT that's ok because the chicken tasted magnificent. Bonchon Chicken at Arlington is a long drive away from home but it's one of our favorite meeting spots when catching up with friends who live closer to DC. My favorite dish is the Soy Garlic Wings because it's an addictive balance of sweet, salty, and umami with a perfectly crunchy skin. If you have to pick just one dish, this would have to be it! The Potstickers are juicy and mouthwatering when brushed with Bonchon's signature soy garlic sauce. The Jap Chae's flavor varies on occasion. Sometimes it's flavorful and sometimes so bland, I've wondered if I could ask for their signature soy garlic sauce to add an oomph! I like Bonchon. I like it a lot. I'm not addicted, but I am a fan, and enjoyed my meal here more so than I had in the past. I love this new Bonchon because it's way closer than Little River Turnpike, plus much more modern - that one was fairly divey, so I wasn't sad to see it go. Also, the staff here is actually friendly and the menu is bit bigger. Good beer selections - we both went with the Port City Wit. We came late on a Sunday, so they were out of legs, but we shared wings (half order of spicy, half order of soy garlic) and they only took about 10 minutes! I was shocked. We also ordered the pork buns (2 for $9.50), which were delicious. Our server was great. This is your run-of-the-mill Bonchon. I know it's a chain, but lots of times locations will have something going for it - bigger wings, special items on the menu, etc. In that regard, I don't think the Arlington location has anything standout about it. It's the standardized Korean Fried Chicken you'd expect, with the chicken albeit on the smaller side. I will say though that table service was pretty abysmal. Came with a party of 4, and it took forever to get our order in, receive our food, and to receive the check after asking for it. I get it's a weekday lunch so you're not really going to have primed service, but there were blatant times I saw staff members just chatting to themselves at the bar while I'm trying to wave someone down. It probably didn't help that we switched servers halfway through and didn't receive a notice. Unless I'm in the area and super dying for KFC, I don't think I'd come back. I love Bonchon! I go to the one in Richmond often so I was excited to come to this location. I convinced my party they would love it here. This location was nicely modern and chic. It wasn't packed yet so we were seated right away. Once we got seated 10 minutes later the crowds started coming in. Sadly we didn't figure it out until we were already at home munching and found a couple of drumsticks and overall fewer prices than there should have been. Fuming, we vowed revenge. A week or so later we ordered more wings and voiced our grievance regarding being shorted the previous time thinking it would just be an opportunity to vent to an indifferent employee. Not the case. Jason took our call, sounded sympathetic, and with the manager involved, told us to just come by and pick up an order of complementary wings and an apology. Wow, this is a full 180 from the time we ate in shortly after opening. Perhaps the owner has taken the reins on this once sinking ship and righted it.
