Had a quick break before meetings while traveling for work and Seoul Spice seemed right up my alley and it sure was! I had the classic bowl with white rice, bulgogi beef, spicy gochujang, bean sprouts, carrots, cucumbers, kale slaw, scallions, sesame oil, sesame seeds, Korean "Drug" Egg. The flavors were great, a nice portion of food, and I know I'm going to be sad craving this when I'm back home. This is the third Seoul Spice location I have been to, and the smallest. There are only three high top tables as far as seating goes. So the interior was rather small and cramped, felt a bit grungy, and cucumber was added to my Seoul Train bowl even though I asked twice for no cucumber. All the seating was taken so we went outside, across the street and up some steps and ate at a covered outdoor area (pictured). I snapped the photo and was walking down the steps and someone behind me started calling Ma'am! Ma'am! and when I turned around said "Did you just take a picture of me!?" accusingly. Yikes! (BTW he was in the far corner of the photo, back to the camera, not sure how he even knew about the photo but you'd best believe he is not pictured). I was craving a hearty Korean bowl, so my girlfriend and I ended up at SeoulSpice. She did not have the best first experience because her original bowl was way too saucy, but I was committed to my craving, and honestly, the second visit redeemed it. I really like their white radish and found myself picking it out and snacking on it. Their roasted veggie base is also so unique. I love roasted vegetables, especially broccoli with a little char on it, so that part felt almost perfect for me. Overall, I really enjoyed the bowl, and I appreciated that the sauce came separately this time. My only gripe is that I wish they would just place the sauce container separately in the bag instead of tucking it into the bowl. It gets messy having to dig through everything to pull it out. Drove into Arlington to go to one of my son's favorite places that has a gluten-free menu. We would normally go to the SeoulSpice in Falls Church, but it has been closed for months due to water damage. Parking near the restaurant can be quite the challenge. Fortunately, Sunday evening is probably one of the better days to come into town. The restaurant is small and very limited tables to sit at. The korean -inspired ingredients are fresh and the service was patient, especially with some guests who had a lot of questions + wanted to look at the food items. The only slight downside to this location would be the small amount of tables/eating place. It feels very much like a take-your-food-and-go location, which is fine by me! Real estate isn't cheap. It's your typical bowl place in that you can customize or pick pre-set combos, but it's Korean AND gluten free! I had the Kimchi Crunch ( 1/2 purple rice, 1/2 noodles, chicken, ginger-carrot sauce, carrots, radish, kale, kimchi, sprouts, scallions, cilantro, sesame seeds, crispy garlic) and it was fantastic! SeoulSpice is a small chain restaurant located in the DMV area that I can best describe as a Korean-style Chipotle in that it's fast-casual, with a build-your-own bowl concept. I really like the customizable aspect (though there are pre-set bowls if you're indecisive), as well as the fact that this place is gluten-free and vegetarian/vegan friendly! I DoorDashed a bowl from their Rosslyn location with their salad base (kale and iceberg lettuce), spicy pork, cucumbers, corn, carrots, Korean radish, bean sprouts, kale slaw, and kimchi, topped with cilantro, scallions, and their Sesamiso dressing - one nice thing is that they also don't charge you for getting all of the veggie choices (which I did). For the starter bowl, it's $12.04 on Doordash, although the pork added $1.10. Overall, my salad tasted fresh and delicious, even after getting delivered (which took around 40 minutes) - the pork was tender and just spicy enough, the vegetables were crunchy, and the kimchi tasted fairly authentic! I really enjoyed the added textural component of the kale slaw as well, and the cilantro and scallion garnish topped it all off nicely. The Sesamiso dressing kind of got lost, and the vegetables definitely got a bit watery (which is on me, since I got it delivered), so at the bottom of my bowl, there was a lot of very diluted dressing. Overall, for around $13, this definitely isn't super cheap, but it's reasonable for around the DMV area, and comparable to places like Chipotle and Cava. We both got bulgogi bowls, mine the traditional one and my husbands a make your own option, adding glass noodles and the cilantro sauce. I really loved the glass noodles- I think doing the half and half with both rice and the noodles is the way to go. The beef was cooked perfectly. Now only bad thing was sauce came on the bowl but not on the side so if you are ordering take out and you like to control your sauce levels, beware. Solid, quick, super casual option across the Metro. They have limited indoor seating, and fewer than usual fountain sodas. Good signature options, if like me, you don't like answering too many questions on toppings and options during the lunch rush. This was my second bowl from SeoulSpice and I absolutely know there will be many more to follow. This time around I got the Seoul Train bowl with chicken and a yuzu Limeade on the side. I appreciated being able to add an avocado, although I'll be honest the flavor was already incredible without it. I highly recommend getting the purple rice as a base, it soaks up the flavor while adding a texture and flavor of its own that doesn't just sit in the background but rather takes its place as a highlight. The yuzu Limeade was refreshing, and perfect for cutting the little bit of spiciness that came through. The bowl was made quickly and with generous proportions. If you're looking for an Americanized Korean version of Chipotle, Seoulspice is one of the few chains in the DMV area that allows you to customize your own japchae, gimbap, salad, or bibimbap bowl. One thing that I like is that they have purple rice here! It was pretty tasty, too. A chicken rice bowl is about $12 pre-tax, but note that most of your bowl will be filled with rice. The chicken was pretty tender, but the flavor didn't stick out to me. You can get as much vegetables as you would like and I ended up getting the bean sprouts, corn, kimchi, and kale slaw. The vegetables were pretty good, but I found that the kimchi was a bit boring. The Korean Hot Sauce (gochujang, I think) was a good touch that made my bibimbap a bit more authentic! Finally, you can top it off with whatever toppings you'd like. I personally didn't think the scallions, sesame seeds or crispy garlic enhanced the bibimbap by a significant amount. You can also top it off with a marinated egg or avocados for a bit extra. Overall, you're paying about $13 for food that was pretty average at best. I didn't think there was enough food per rice bowl and found myself to be pretty hungry afterwards. It was a relatively healthy and light meal, so I'd be OK ordering something here again if I'm ever in the mood. However, there are so many other fast-casual restaurants to choose from in the Rosslyn area so I probably won't come back anytime soon. read more

Delicious food, friendly and efficient service, cute vibes, and super convenient location...what more could you ask for in a fast-casual restaurant? I've been hearing rave reviews for SeoulSpice's other locations for a solid year now, so I was overjoyed to hear that they were opening up a new store in Rosslyn!! I came here with a couple of friends after work on a Monday evening, and...wow...it definitely lived up to the hype! Of course, I'm a little biased since Korean food is my favorite cuisine, but even my friends who aren't as obsessed with kimchi fell in love with SeoulSpice's upbeat energy, cute decor, and diversity of delicious options. One of my friends tried out their japchae noodles with spicy pork, and the other tested out their white rice bowl with bulgogi...both had rave reviews for their meat and both bases, and their sriracha was wonderfully creamy and flavorful. Personally, I ordered their salad bowl with tofu and added literally every single vegetable topping they had. Their tofu was delicious and incredibly flavorful, especially with their super refreshing and tangy ginger-carrot dressing. Each of their toppings were wonderfully crisp and fresh, although I do wish that their kimchi was a bit more pungent. My one major complaint was with the base of the salad; it's described as a kale and iceberg lettuce mix, but it was honestly about 90% lettuce with a sprinkling of kale. I find iceberg lettuce a bit watery, and it wilts easily under the warm tofu and the dressing, so it really doesn't hold up well. I also don't think that the flavor of iceberg lettuce goes particularly well with their other toppings, so I would've preferred a fully kale base. I did appreciate that they had purple rice, though, so I might come back sometime for a rice bowl! Overall, SeoulSpice was a wonderful way to satisfy my cravings for Korean comfort food, with all of the familiar flavors easily accessible and at my fingertips. I don't think that it'll be my first choice for a weekday meal...it was about the same price as Chipotle or Cava, with each bowl costing you $12-$17, but I'm not sure if the flavors or concept were quite impressive enough to warrant a weekly/monthly visit...even so, I'll definitely be filing SeoulSpice away into my rotation of fast-casual spots in Rosslyn and I'll be back the next time I'm craving Korean food. read more

I'm not sure what the proper term is for this type of establishment, so here I'll coin a new term for the species-- Chipotlesis bibimpabii, or known in common English as "Bibimbap Fast Casuals (BFCs)." SeoulSpice occupies this niche. You know the type; you chose a base, then a protein, then some vegetables, maybe some toppings, and finish it off with some type of sauce. You can find similar BFCs all over the DC area, e.g. ricebar near the White House. Maybe these are in part the lasting legacy of Chipotle. Say what you will, but joints like SeoulSpice always seem to work well for a group of people. You don't get people going "...ahh, shucks, really could've done without the carrots in it or whatever," since you yourself chose the ingredients for the rice bowl. If you don't like which vegetables are in your bowl, that may just be a skill issue. The biggest downside to these BFCs is that the whole time I'm thinking, "I could've just bought these vegetables myself and made this same thing at home." This is especially true when you're one thin glass partition away from a guy just scooping ingredients into a paper bowl for you. Still, I liked what I got at SeoulSpice. Purple rice + tofu + bean sprouts + kimchi + seaweed + sesame oil + Gochujang. The tofu was shredded, to the extent that a vegetarian friend asked if it was chicken. It most certainly was not. Kimchi was good too, even if mild. The best was the Gochujang sauce; it wasn't as thick as normal Gochujang, which worked to its advantage in the rice bowl. As for portion sizes, SeoulSpice gives you a little less than is deserved for a $14~ price tag. The interior of the shop is also quite barren. There are only three barstools for the whole place, which when you have a four-person group makes sitting arrangements a little... awkward. If I'm in the area again and in need of a quick bite, I'll make my way over for another bowl. And at the end of the day, it's pretty healthy to alternatives, plus you get the added joy of coming up with your own type of bowl. Pretty good. read more

I enjoy coming to this place, but I do get frustrated with how little rice they give. Today, the guy serving me put some rice in my bowl, then took out a small amount and returned it to the steamer. I jokingly told him to give me back that rice - he looked at me stunned. Seconds later, he scooped up a weak spoonful of chicken, which another employee noticed and added more. I realize that food costs are high, but being overly stingy is off-putting. I'm not requesting a bowl that is bursting out of its lid. I want value for my money and I don't get it here. read more

Authentic? No. Delicious? Yes Tried their fireball bowl today (first time customer.) Was very happy with the bowl. The Japjae was warm which is not traditional but had a solid texture and taste still. All the other toppings were well balanced and tasty. If you don't like something or want extra just let them know. Staff was also very nice Altho 1-2 were obviously new but that didn't slow down the process. Overall very happy and will return. I've always heard of this place but never had time until today! 8-2-22. First it's very immaculate and vibrant and colorful which caught my attention first!!. Very welcoming the place was , as was the staff!! I told the young lady I've never been there she suggested so many options, asked was I allergic to anything and offered suggestions. I finally chose a bowl with half noodle half with rice , Beef Bulgogi and Korean chicken! Kale, kimchi, carrots and some creamy sriracha and a little cilantro lime with avocado. I also got a Kale-Apple juice drink. I got home and it was still HOT, full of flavor and delicious as ever!! The meats both were fall off the bone tender definitely recommended. The veggies I added were all very fresh and I liked that the cucumber was finely chopped. I topped it off with the cilantro lime sauce which was tangy and sweet, and added "the" egg which is a lightly marinated tea egg with a slightly runny yolk (think of a ramen egg).
