Excited to see bonchon finally open in Houston. Trekked it all the way to Katy to get my kfc fix. Not too many people there around 6pm so we were immediately sat at a table. First things first: get some flavored soju. They use real fruit in it so it makes it taste even better. I liked the lychee flavor over the strawberry one. We ordered the salmon avocado ball as an app, seasoned fries, and the small combo. Everything was good and came out really fast. Felt like the chicken came out a little too fast. Yes, the chicken was crispy but it didn't have that extra crisp you typically get from kfc and it wasn't piping hot. Felt like the chicken was already pre made and just given out to maintain wait time. Service was good and the manager walked around to greet everyone. To sum this place up in one word: decent. It wasn't anything special. I was very excited to try it and was happy that there were bar openings when my boyfriend and I came because otherwise, the wait was 35 minutes. We were greeted nicely when first seated but one of the first things said to us by the bartender was that the restaurant had only been open for three days, meaning the kitchen was packed and it would take longer for our wings. I didn't mind this but the way the bartender said it was kinda like, "we've only been open three days, cut us some slack". We ordered a small order of 10 wings (all soy garlic), fried calamari, and seasoned fries. The seasoned fries came out first, and though they were described to be seasoned and flavorful with Parmesan and other stuff, they tasted like regular COLD fries. The calamari was alright, the sauce was drizzled on there so some pieces had more flavor than others. The kitchen got our order wrong and instead of getting 10 wings, we got 3 wings and about 7 drumsticks. My boyfriend and I aren't really ones to make a big deal of things so we didn't say anything. The wings were a bit soggy but the drumsticks were so crunchy! I loved the soy garlic sauce, probably the best thing about the restaurant. While my boyfriend and I were eating, the bartender kept looking at the time and talking about how he hoped they closed soon and complaining about how things went that day. I felt bad for the guy but complaining to the customers isn't really something a server should do. Even another waitress came by and said "fuck yeah I hope we close soon". The place has only been open for three days and the workers hate their jobs that much already? Overall, the only thing I would come back for is the chicken, but honestly there are plenty of other Korean fried chicken places that are more advanced with their chicken, appetizers, and sides. This was a place highly recommended by a couple of friends who raved about their fried chicken. (My friends who ordered the fried chicken agreed and said that it was the best wings they've ever had). Despite being known for chicken, after a glance at the menu, I was stuck between ordering the udon noodle soup or the tteokbokki. I went with the tteokbokki and it was probably the second spiciest thing I've ever eaten (the first being the infamous spicy ramen). It was very tasty and the onions and cheese were a nice touch to the dish, but maybe I'm just a big chicken but I won't be ordering this again because I can't handle it at all. Order this if you can handle spicy, but next time I'm gonna try the udon. We're originally from the Bay Area where Bonchon there is LEGIT and highly talked/praised about. Moved to the area about a month ago and was happy to see that they just opened up a location here! Located in a nice area. Same plaza as Main Event. Lots of seating, but there was a wait on a Saturday afternoon. Garlic soy flavor: This was spicy. They aren't supposed to be spicy at all... My son just didn't bother eating after trying it. We all got half and half. I got the strips and everyone else got the wings. Still, their garlic soy flavor was mildly spicy. 0 stars!!! Spicy: I noticed that this was spicier here than in CA. 0 stars!!! Wings: These were so tiny. -_- Someone in our party ordered the small and when they brought his plate, it had like 8 wings and it looked like someone ate out of it already. So we told them. Does this place have a lot of kinks to work out? Yes. Is it delicious? Yes. I've been here 2 times already and have yet to encounter a terrible experience compared to other guests, so I'll just keep coming back, ha. I now live in Austin where there is a deficit of Korean fried chicken (KFC), so I've been craving it for a while. This review is for my recent visit since I ordered more this time than last. I got a large order of their wings (30, 20 spicy and 10 soy) and a small order of their drumsticks (5, half and half). I would say skip the drumsticks and stick with the wings. Their drumsticks were kind of dry and not enough sauce to make up for how much chicken is on it. As for their wings, they weren't as crunchy as other KFC places I've had in LA and Dallas, but it wasn't terrible. I'd say that's the only thing they need to work on, is keeping that crunch going. I prefer the soy-garlic because I'm a pansy and can't handle the spicy. My brothers and boyfriend loved the spicy though! If you can handle the heat, go on and get the spicy! Do not order their "specialty fries" because there's nothing special about it. I've had bother their regular and special, and they literally taste the same but one costs $3 more. Save yourself some moola and get the regular fries. They were wonderfully cooked and crunchy! My brothers loved this place and so did I, so we will definitely be back. At 6pm the we're only a few diners in the cute, Korean/American diner. The staff was young but attentive. Out waiter was able to easily answer guestions about the dishes. They had a steady stream of carry out customers also.. Unfortunately the loud music and staff singing a different song in the kitchen than what was playing in the dining room was pretty distracting and not pleasant. The food was a mixed bag. The bulgogi sliders with kimchi cole slaw and chicken tacos were delicious. The slaw has just a touch of a kimchi kick. The chicken katsu as well as the pot stickers were so fried and dried out that even the sauce on them, while tasty, couldn't help. We left a good portion of those dishes which our waiter looked surprised that we didn't want to take the rest with us. I've been wanting to try this place since I heard that they were opening in Houston. We decided to head out here and catch a movie at Cinemark afterwards. When we got there, it was packed and they were on a waiting list. We opted to eat at the bar instead, since we were on a time crunch. We placed our order with the bartender: mango soju, seasoned fries, japchae, and small order of wings (10 pcs) half & half flavor. The bartender asked if we wanted to try his version of flavored soju. It was a nice surprise, yogurt flavored and very refreshing. We're glad we gave that a shot. The japchae arrived first, it was mainly 70% veggies, 20% noodles, 10% beef. It was very bland and consisted of mainly sesame oil. I was disappointed in this dish as I think I can make it better myself. I wouldn't recommend this dish here or care to order it again. The fried chicken arrived next, took about 40 mins. I had ordered a small wings order but ended up with the small combo which was three legs and 6 wings. The chicken was flavorful but it was very dry, over fried but definitely crunchy. I have mixed feeling about this one but will try again to see if it was a one off. Our seasoned fries arrived last, 50 minutes after we ordered it. I think the bartender forgot about it because there is no way it should've taken longer to cook than the fried chicken. It was lukewarm and we were too full to eat it. I think service needs to improve and the quality of the food. I will have to give this place another try in a few months. A guy served us with really bad manner. We showed an unused reward code from Fivestars to him, he said we already used it in rude manner. But these drumsticks aren't like what you're accustomed to at a Buffalo Wing joint. These are HUGE! Just note that Spicy isn't THAT spicy. Has a little kick, but isn't gonna set you on fire. Friendly service and cool atmosphere. There is not much room to wait inside and they are pretty busy. We ordered the ddeokbokki and salmon avocado roll to start. Ddeokbokki was everything I dreamed and more. It's a spicy (VERY SPICY) dish with soft rice cakes, noodles, fish cakes, and topped with cheese and two rolls of deep fried noodles! My friend who has a high spice tolerance would casually just say "Ooo my lips are burning" and here I am, turning bright red, eyes watering, a sniffling snotty mess and lovin every minute of it. The salmon avocado ball was very refreshing, interesting, and beautifully presented. We also ordered a medium combo (wings and drums) of fried chicken - spicy flavor. From my experience with Hoododak, I was skeptical to try this place but with persuasion from my sister, I decided to check this place out. I came around noon on Thursday and there wasn't a long wait which was nice. The inside is really casual, kind of on the smaller scale. It is still possible to fit parties comfortably. While I was looking at the menu, I did notice that the prices are a little higher then expected. Kimchi Pancake Trio: I'm not even gonna sugar-coat it, this pancake was extremely salty. It does come with two different kinds of sauces but even by itself is really salty. I don't recommend it. Korean Tacos: With given the option between chicken or bulgogi, I chose bulgogi. It's a shame because whenever I see Korean tacos on the menu, I always jump on it but these tacos just lacked. The meat was perfectly seasoned and was cooked well but there was nothing else special about it. It definitely needed a thick and creamy sauce to it. I probably wouldn't waste my money on these. Half & Half/Soy Garlic & Spicy Wings: Both of these wings were pretty good. They had a nice crunch to them. The Soy Garlic Wings have a small sweet kick to it in my opinion but it didn't really bother me. Now..unless you're able to eat a whole bag of hot Cheetos without reaching for that glass of water, I wouldn't recommend the spicy wings. I really enjoy spicy foods but this was just too much for me. Overall, I thought that this place is no better then a place like Hoododak. I do think that this place has slightly better wings BUT are still brought down with their appetizers. My first time trying Korran Fried Chicken and it was amazing. I got the small combo and that was more than enough food. Both of their sauces are great, and I dont nornally handle spicy that well but it tasted so good. The french fries as sides are big enough to share with at least 2 or 3 people. I was a big fan of the coleslaw that you can get with the chicken too. What made this a 3 star review was the service. Our waiter was a nice enough guy, but he seemed fairly new. Only one person in our group didnt order chicken. She got the Japchae instead. It literally came out at least 15-20 minutes later than our chicken, and supposedly the chicken takes the longest. We were all almost done by the time she got her food. AND THEN, the order was wrong because she requested no mushrooms or carrots, and she spent 5 minutes picking out the mushrooms and carrots. When it came time for the bill, our waiter had to go back several times because he kept getting the tickets wrong. Like I said, he was a nice enough guy. But when an order comes out 15 minutes after everyone else's and the tickets are all messed up, a good dinner can easily become a not-so-impressive, annoying dinner. I'll definitely eat at Bonchon again but I might try a different location. read more

Great spot to stop in and get a quick chicken fix. There aren't many choices in flavors (spicy or soy garlic for both wings and drum sticks) but they are both definitely tasty. I would actually recommend the wings over the drum sticks as more of the sauce flavor comes through in these. The drum sticks are HUGE and good as well though. For me what really made this place was the excellent service and quickness with delivering the meals. We came closer to close and so they didn't have some spoons and some clean utensils but they did the best they could to get things washed and brought out. There was a wait upon my arrival to this restaurant, which I wasn't really surprised because they just opened this location and obviously alot of people wanted to try this place out. I gave the gentlemen (must have been owner/manager) my name down for a party of 5 and waited at the bar area. It must've been a good half hour wait until I realized another party was already seated. I went up to the hostess' desk and checked the wait list and apparently he had scratched my name off. I informed him that we have been waiting and asked why my name was scratched off when my name hasn't been called. Apparently he had me mixed up with someone else, so he seated us immediately after. Because of the mix up, we were comped with onion rings and parmesan fries. The fries were a bit too salty for my taste and the onion rings weren't anything special, but they were crunchy (as they should be). The waiter informed us that it may take awhile since they were short staffed and barely preparing (cutting up) the chicken, which we were fine with considering we had already waited long enough. So my boyfriend and I ordered beer; ended up waiting about 15 mins for our beer. We ordered calamari, bulgogi, chicken rice plate (forgot the name) and of course the wings. The calamari was a fair portion but it had a sweet glaze to it, a little too sweet. It would've been nice had they provided some lemon to sqeeze on top (like how many restaurants do). The bulgogi was okay, but could use more flavor and didn't come out hot like it should have. We ordered 20 piece wings, half soy garlic and half spicy. The wings were good in size and the soy garlic flavor was pretty good. It wasn't drenched in the sauce which I like. The spicy wings on the other hand, they were a bit too spicy (I only had one piece!) and even the guys thought it was spicy as well. But I did enjoy the fact that they didn't use too much batter. Also, the waiter asked my sister if she wanted a refill on her water; weird that they took her cup back to refill it in the back. I wouldn't be surprised if it was unfiltered faucet water. Grossssss. This is my second time ordering at the Towson, MD location. They need more training. My order at 7:03 didn't come out until 7:40...37 minutes for a order of 8 wings, and tacos...the plain fried rice not on receipt. The Cashier needs a LOT more training...ordered 3 items and it took over 5 min for him to still get it wrong...reiterated entire order 3 times. Two orders before me both came back in from their cars to get stuff left out of orders. The couple behind me, family of 4, took 15 minutes with this cashier to get the order correct. Horrible, and waste of time for a fast food place. Retrain or give him another job. He does not listen or does not know how to run the computer. He is a train wreak and slowing down that stores production. After that...the wings were very over cooked. read more

I'll admit, I came here totally expecting a 3-star experience. However, for a lunch this week I had a quite good experience. Service was prompt despite the initial confusion on whether I was going to eat-in or grab take-out. I got the 8 wings lunch special with a side of pickled daikon. I actually do like how everything's a la carte so I don't have to pay for a sugary soda that I don't want. I'm not a fan of sweet wings so skip the garlic sauce but the hot wings are quite good. The wings came out pretty fast, nice crispy crust and pretty juicy. Despite my dislike of sweet stuff there's a nice balance of sweet, sour and good baseline heat that builds over time. The pickled daikon was as-expected, nothing fancy there - just good acidity and roughage. Best Korean wings in Katy still goes to Hoodadak but Bonchon is a worthy competitor if you are in the I-10 / 99 area. read more

My suggestion: Know what kind of wings you want before arriving. When you order your beverage, order your wings as well. Order everything else when you figure it out. That way you don't feel like you're waiting for your wings. The wings were crispy, kinda dry but seasoned well. The spicy is like spicy! The garlic is good. Surprisingly the garlic potstickers were yummy. Bulgogi sliders are alright. Don't order the season fries! Save yourself a few bucks and order regular fries. Service still needs works, but food isn't too bad for being just opened. Ordered some wings, fries, a salmon salad, and a Japchea to go for a lunch meeting. It was my first time walking into the place and it looked really nice! The bar area is right there and they have a full service bar; a pleasant surprise because I like to drank! The food came out on time, the staff was pretty friendly, and when everybody tasted the food it was delicious. CAUTION: The spicy wings are hot!! Damn good, but hot! I will definitely want to come back; maybe to watch a game or just have a nice tall beer after work at the bar. The only downside (and it's a very tiny downside) is that the prices are a bit high BUT, I feel like any Korean food place in Houston has high prices.
