Remembering back when there weren't THAT many Korean fried chicken options in California, especially in NorCal, I guess there's still not that many options in NorCal, seeing that this Bonchon has survived COVID and the ones in SoCal, at least the ones near me got decimated by independent shops and bbq chickens. It is a bit fancier of a vibe and sit down restaurant, but it is a bit pricier than the other restaurants too. There's nothing inherently wrong with this place. Solid Korean fried chicken. Double fried to get that juicy moist meat and the crispy exterior. I'm not really a bone in person, nor was my ex at the time, so we opted for boneless. We'd get the soy garlic and the classic crunch, standard flavors and again, not too fancy and something you can get elsewhere, same with the coleslaw and pickled radish sides. Estimated, it's around $1-ish a piece and they've long taken it off then menu but we did get the avocado salmon bomb, which was kind of a saucy mushy mess when we did order it. It's not bad, but there's just so many other better options with many more flavors and sides, etc. at better price points nowadays. read more

Despite the not so good reviews I went here anyway since I saw it on TikTok. I just ordered a lunch special, an extra appetizer with extra side. Boneless soy garlic? I'll admit it was good, I didn't see or notice any issues with anything I ordered. My only possible critique lies with the chicken portions and sides being....sort of small? The vibes are off. The service is terrible. The chicken is bland -- crispy but bland. ........ I don't get it. Is it just this location? We arrived at 8:18 pm. The older man (seems to be the owner) welcomed us in but made sure to tell us they close at 9. No problem, we will be out before then. We got seated and ordered quickly. While eating our meal we received the check. Probably around 8:38pm. We were holding drumsticks so we waited a bit. Old man came back and asked for the bill to be paid and we obliged and this was 8:41 pm while he kept saying "no rush, no rush" uhm... yes rush. But ok we get it. We keep eating our food and our waiter comes and asks for the signature at 8:49 pm literally while my poor husband was mid bite holding his chicken wing.... We're finishing up. We asked for to go boxes already. Like chill a minute. I also asked for napkins and she conveniently forgot that. At 8:51pm another party arrived to order to go. I know their chicken isn't gonna be done before 9 pm. We stepped out of there at 8:56pm. That's 4 whole minutes before closing. Stop hounding your customers. Weird energy. You know it's weird because I started tracking all the times they came to aggressively hound us. If you don't want customers to dine in after 8 pm... that's ok..... JUST SAY THAT. If you're gonna offer terrible service at least have good food. The chicken was crispy and was the only thing going for it. We got the original and the soy garlic and they were both so underwhelming and tasteless. Japchae was ok. My favorite thing might be the pickled radish & white rice. I hate to update a review like this, but unfortunately the quality of both the food and service has gone down noticeably. I usually order the half wings and half drums, but the last three times I've received almost all drums with only 1-2 wings. If I'm paying for wings, that's what I expect to get. The drums themselves have also gotten much larger, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it feels more like ordering fried chicken than wings at this point. I really hope they turn things around, because this used to be my go-to spot. read more

We ordered the Seoul Sampler and 10 pieces of wings (Soy Garlic) shared between 3 people. The sampler included 2 drums, 4 wings, Bulgogi Fries, Pork Potstickers, Korean Street Corn and Coleslaw. First time trying this place it was empty as it was a Monday so we were served very quickly. Clean dine in location and it looks like it could be a fun hangout spot! Bulgogi fries were chefs kiss! I loved how crispy they were . It was a big enough portion to eat on your own as a main, or share! We got boneless chicken in yangnyeom and Korean bbq both flavors were amazing! Chicken was kind of hard/ dry and some were hollowish? In the middle but I didn't mind it because the flavor made up for it, plus I expected drier chicken since it was boneless. Next time I will get bone in! I can see myself coming back here and bringing friends to try more things off the menu, i had trouble deciding what to get in the first place because it all looked so good on the menu! Delicious fast food. I would go back for the pork belly bao, classic crunch chicken strips, and pickled radish. The chicken strips were lightly-battered tender breast meat. The battering was a little heavier than tempura, but similar flavor and texture. The seasoning on Classic Crunch tasted like soft salad sembei, very light and satisfying. The Korean BBQ flavor was sweet and sour, and tasted good but was not my favorite. The bao were soft, sweet, tangy, and full of chopped crunchy vegetables. read more

I think this located used to be a sports bar, and I think for that purpose, the food here may be good. Lots of screens around the bar area. I was craving fried chicken, and after seeing all the great reviews, I decided to give Bonchon in Newark a try with my 4-year-old son. I'm so glad we did! We ordered the sampler to share, and it came with fried chicken, gyoza, coleslaw, corn, and Korean beef fries. Every single item was delicious. Since I was dining with my son, I chose the Soy Garlic (soy ginger) chicken because I thought it would be a kid-friendly option, not spicy and it was perfect, sweet, savory, and packed with flavor. The chicken itself was incredibly crispy while still being juicy inside. I wasn't sure if my son would like the Korean beef on the fries, so I asked if they could serve it on the side. They were more than happy to accommodate my request, which let him enjoy plain fries while I still got to enjoy the beef. I really appreciated how kind and accommodating everyone was. The restaurant had a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. I arrived around 6:30 p.m., and I was actually surprised it wasn't busier because the food was so good. There were only a few tables occupied when we got there, but more people started coming in as we were leaving. Even then, there was still plenty of seating--I could easily see them accommodating a party of 20. After chatting with our waitress, I learned Bonchon is a chain restaurant. Honestly, I never would have guessed because everything tasted fresh and authentic. The service made the experience even better. Not only was our waitress incredibly friendly, but the owner also came over to introduce himself and ask how everything was. That personal touch really stood out, and I told him I'd definitely be leaving a positive review because the food truly hit the spot. The owner mentioned they do a lot of DoorDash and takeout orders, which makes perfect sense. I know the next time I'm craving fried chicken at home, I'll absolutely be ordering from Bonchon. Ordered a large mixed chicken combo, half soy garlic half spicy for take out. Arrived 20 minutes after I placed the order over the phone, and only had to wait a couple more minutes in store for my food to be ready. The host/cashier was very nice. Mixed combo had wings, drums, and huge drumsticks with good crisp on the batter. I wish the wings were a little meatier but the flavor of the soy garlic was great, and the spicy flavor was definitely hot. Good place for take out wings. read more

My cousins and I went to Bonchon for an early dinner and we had such an AMAZING experience. We ordered of teottbokki, bulgogi fries, and wings. We waited a very short time, and the employees were sooooo nice and friendly! They never hesitated to help us out when we needed refills on our water, extra utensils, etc. The food itself was delicious. We got 3 items split among 5 people and the portion sizes were pretty good for the price we paid. I recommend coming here at 5pm on a weekday because it was very quiet, allowing us all to rest. Today, I ordered the Mukbang Meal online for about $40 with tax. The meal was fantastic--crispy chicken, wings, fried potstickers, bulgogi fries, corn, and coleslaw, enough for two people. However, the service had some issues. I ordered online due to limited lunch time, but when I arrived, I still had to wait 10 minutes just to show my I.D. It wouldn't be bad but no-one was at the register just me, didn't even see staff serving customers. Additionally, my order didn't include utensils or napkins, which was inconvenient, especially for dishes like coleslaw and corn that require scooping. I also never received a confirmation that my order was ready--just a pickup time. The interior has a high-end Korean bar aesthetic, which is nice, though unexpected for a fast-food-style restaurant. Maybe they host karaoke nights. Overall, the food was excellent, but the service and attention to customer needs could improve. Leaving negative feedback brings me no joy but this issue needs to be addressed. My wife I had lunch today and we both ordered the chicken sandwich. Picture included. While the flavor was good the actual chicken in my sandwich was almost nonexistent. The server was very polite and apologized. The most disturbing thing is the manager said he couldn't do anything. We are a regular here (starting fairly recently). The food is amazing. I used to be a regular in Bonchon (berkeley branch) during my studies at UC. After moving to Fremont, I was delighted to find a Bonchon nearby. The service is excellent, both quick and professional. I normally order strips (spicy of course) with sides. I prefer the pickled radish as side although fries are good too. The strips are cooked to perfection, this place knows how to cook chicken. I can imagine they nail the temperature of the frier! The Korean tacos is a must have, try with spicy or with soy garlic chicken. Both are amazing. This is one of the places which I crave in Fremont/Newark area.
