This one is a little bigger, brighter, and has a secret KATSU FACTORY inside! At this location only, you can order freshly made to order Japanese Katsu!  I usually don't care for Katsu, but this place has perfected it. The meat is juicy and tender, light breading, and not overly greasy. Each Katsu order comes with rice, salad, and sides of sauce and seasoning. This was my first time visiting this restaurant. We came because there is a new section called Katsu Factory inside and we loved Katsu pork chop ! It was a surprise to us that Satomi has vert good sushi and sashimi. We ordered one hamachi sushi and it was thick cut , very fresh and flavorful. I didn't like my shrimp tempura. They cooked the deep fried way and not the fluffy tempura batter. I was very disappointed and the dipping stage did not taste good, it was too sweet. My family ordered the original Katsu lunch and the combination Katsu ( with Katsu cheese stick , Katsu shrimp and the Katsu pork chop ) . Price was fair and the potion was generous. My family and I always enjoy dining at Satomi Sushi 2. There is ample parking in the lot they share with Starbucks and several other businesses. As we typically do, we ordered several sushi rolls and a Chicken Karaage appetizer. The Chicken Karaage are cooked so the chicken is moist and yet somewhat crunchy as well. The dipping sauce is a nice compliment too. For our sushi rolls, we ordered a Golden Gate Roll, Caterpillar Roll, Spicy Spider Roll and an Out of Control Roll. All the rolls were delish. It was also the first time we've ordered these rolls, but it won't be the last time. I also ordered a Chicken Teriyaki dinner to-go, so I could enjoy it sometime later. The service is always quick and the staff are always friendly. They also come by and refill your hot ocha and water. We went kind of late, so there weren't as many customers that we normally see. I called last minute looking for a tray of sushi and told them it's for someone who had a baby. The person who answered was SO sweet and when she wasn't sure if they offered this, went and asked the chef and then helped me select the rolls. It was ready by the time I arrived an hour later, looked amazing, and they even wrote the kindest note to her without me even asking. Fastest service, polite & friendly waitresses and host, nice atmosphere, better parking, clean, but most importantly the FRESHEST sushi in town. Typically very busy after 7pm on Friday nights and the weekend. Can't forget to mention the spicy garlic edamame with a squeeze of lemon juice, oh man they're life changing. I'm Korean, and I was so happy to be able to eat authentic Korean-style pork cutlet here--it tasted just like the kind you get in Korea. The meat was very tender, and the sauce was exactly like traditional Korean tonkatsu sauce. My child absolutely loved the cheese tonkatsu. The hotate nigiri was really good and super fresh, I would honestly come back just for this. The other rolls we got were also pretty good, but the rice to fish ratio was a little off. So I am kind of a reg at their original location (closer to home) and even updated my reviews for that location to a fiver. Finally tried this second location (twice) within the past 3 months and think a review can be whipped up. Now this spot had been a sushi spot before that I had tried, but first time trying this location as a Satomi. I think I like the interior of the older one better, more neighborly. This one has super high industrial ceilings so it has a colder feel. And for the space it seems they could jam in a few more tables, but they probably don't want to bring on more staff to accommodate higher volume. I've pretty much seen the same staff on both outings and both times have been friendly and fast. Negihama Roll ($8/4*) Very tightly rolled and a little on the petite side. Solid flavors and textures tho from the fresh hamachi to the rice to the crisp nori and hits of green onion. This is probably my favorite simple roll right up there with a Tekka Maki. Saba Shioyaki ($19/4*) I love the one at the other location, and I think they do a slightly better job there. This one was just okay. This one also has more bones, which I don't get at the other one. Hamachi Kama ($17/4*) Properly char grilled and piping hot as it arrives. Nice big collar too and the meat pulls off easily off the bones. Just think it could have been seasoned a bit more as it was kinda bland. They give like a ponzu sauce but I'm not a huge sauce person, just like nice salty bites with charred meats...then a sip of beer. Juno Roll ($15/4*) I usually don't order big ass rolls but I will try a few pieces if someone else orders it. This actually wasn't bad but definitely a tad too busy for me. Tempura shrimp in the middle, then covered with sushi rice, cucumbers and spicy tuna. That would have been enough for me, but then the remainder of roll is topped with raw fishes like salmon and tuna and topped with a chili sauce and slice jalapeno. Actually since this is a Korean owned sushi spot, they actually rock an above average selection of spicy type of sushi rolls. If you are into that sort of thing, you now know where to head to. This roll wasn't hot by any means, but it definitely has a kick. Now I wouldn't want to eat a whole roll to myself but to a eat a few pieces, I would not resist. Still have to try a chirashi bowl here but now knowing that I can trust them, will make it much easier for me to give them that whirl. read more

We have been to Satomi several times and finally writing a review. This time we came for an early dinner to celebrate a special occasion. We were greeted at the door and seated right away. Once seated we were provided menus and miso soup. Service is always outstanding. This location has easy access and ample parking. We ordered: Chicken teriyaki bento, Cherry Blossom roll, Dragon roll, Crazy roll, and Crunchy roll. The sushi came out fresh and delicious. This is one of the best sushi restaurants in Fremont and we feel the prices are reasonable. It's a good place for dinner with family and friends. read more

I came back to Satomi Sushi after a few years and left really disappointed. This used to be one of my go-to spots, but both the food and service have declined dramatically. I always order the Lucky 7 and the Melting Albacore, and this time the flavors were off, the texture was inconsistent, and the presentation lacked the freshness and balance I used to expect. I had dinner with my brother, and he did not appreciate the vibe or the attitude of the servers--it felt indifferent at best. I don't know what changed over the years--maybe new management--but the difference is hard to ignore. Between the lackluster service and the drop in quality, I highly doubt I'll be back or recommend it. Satomi used to be a solid sushi spot, which makes this all the more disappointing. read more

The waitress gave a kind greeting upon entering and gentleman behind the bar suggested sitting in further to keep cool. The tempura was perfectly cooked, the sauce was decent, the Katsu came with a TON of chicken ( we could have shared it). The price point for the bbq ribs was a little high (picture reflects all the pieces- see orange for scale). They had a good variety of sake, wines, and beers. One of my absolute favorite sushi spots. Their bento boxes are always fresh and satisfying, and I can never resist the Lion King rolls or the perfectly crispy crunch rolls. Whether I'm grabbing takeout or relaxing there after work, the service is always warm and welcoming. read more

Sushi rice is terrible. Pretty much blend with no flavor how sushi rice should be. As well as Beef teriyaki tasting like ground beef quality. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT to anyone and would never visit again myself. read more

This place was always in our favorites for Japanese restaurants. We always dined at the Thornton location and occasionally at the Mowry one. A group of us landed on the Mowry location this time and it was an okay experience. The uni had a bitter taste to us and wasn't super fresh or creamy. And one of the appetizers I ordered specifically stated snow crab on the menu, but it was imitation crab. I understated the rising costs of ingredients these days, but advertising it as something else is not acceptable. Perhaps we will stick to the Thornton location as we've never had a bad experience there. read more

I've been to Satomi over 15 times now and that quality has always been great! Good portions and good rolls. I would focus on ordering rolls here, especially the gansta roll. I think this is one of the best weekday sushi restaurants you could get in Fremont. It is dependable and consistent. This branch is better than the Thornton one as parking is much easier too. read more

Satomi is a solid sushi place. I haven't had any bad experiences. I usually visit during my lunch break and order sashimi and/or saba. The sashimi is the best that I can get during my lunch break that's in the area. The service has always been friendly, even when calling in for pick up. The tempura is exactly what it's supposed to be. It comes out hot and crispy. The shell itself tastes good and they don't over batter the food. I tried the udon this time around and it was hot like soup should be. The broth was light yet flavorful. Noodles were perfect and it was a big portion with lots of chicken and veggies. I'd say it was a good ratio between all ingredients. Tip: The Greg roll is huge- topped with sashimi and seaweed salad. read more

Satomi Sushi is one of my favorite sushi spots that's close to home and also very good quality food! My family and I arrived at around 7 PM and were seated immediately. The ambiance is pretty quiet and peaceful, so it was definitely a great spot to relax and catch up. To preface, we ordered the Bay Scallop roll, Flaming Dragon roll, and Cherry Blossom Roll to split and I ordered a Tempura Udon for myself. Bay Scallop: It's really hard for me to dislike any scallop roll because I love scallops and I always like the sauce on top of the roll. This roll was absolutely a hit in my books! The sauce was so warm but didn't take away from the flavor of the fish. If we were a roll-only family, I'd order two of these if I could. If you like baked scallops, you HAVE to try! Flaming Dragon: I thought this roll was pretty good, but nothing can beat my Bay Scallop. It was also very saucy and came in a tin foil that was lit on fire. It took around five minutes for the fire to die down, which I thought was a bit longer than usual, but it was worth the wait! It had a little tiny kick of spice to it that only amplified the taste of the sauce. Cherry Blossom: I honestly liked the other two rolls more. I have a bit more bias towards saucy rolls because I love reaching for that extra ginger to mellow out the sauce taste, but this roll was okay. If you like that fresh, simple taste of a sushi roll, this one is definitely something you should try! Tempura Udon: I think the rolls outshined this a bit. It's pretty much your average udon-- it was savory, hot, and delicious! I could have gone with a little less veggies than what was in here, but it definitely helped my body warm up after a cold day! It's definitely a big size for just one person- I recommend splitting it with another person if you are also ordering rolls. The portion of the tempura was a lot more than I expected and I only ended up eating a few pieces. Definitely worth your money if you are looking for some soup! Overall, Satomi has never missed their mark for me. The wait staff was very attentive to making sure that we had everything we need and that our water cups stayed full throughout the dinner. Shoulda gone to the further location. I picked this location since it was closer to the place we were planning on hanging out after lunch. We arrived and it was pretty quiet in there on a Sunday at noon. It's really dark inside too. We ordered: Spicy tune roll: 3/5 very messy presentation (see photo). Taste ok. Orange blossom: I didn't taste this one but it looked a lot better than mine. Tempura udon: 3/5 wow so much going on in that big bowl. Udon texture was a bit too mushy for my taste. Gangsta and dragon roll: the men said it these were ok Unagi kabayaki: 4/5 my kid liked this. The unagi is smothered in sauce. They do give a big piece of unagi. This place had ample parking and we were seated immediately. There was tons of seating and the place was hip and warm. The restroom was clean and smelled good. We ordered sushi, tempura, cucumber salad and Sapporo drinks. The food came out quickly and was fresh. The dishes were very tasty and we almost forgot to take pics as you can see, the images of the pics were almost all eaten. 3.5 stars but rounding up to 4. I haven't been here in years, but every time I drive by I make a mental note to come back. Well I finally had the chance to grab lunch here last weekend. Decided to come for an early lunch as I remember the place filling up fast. Arrived around 11:45am and was able to secure a table right away. The complimentary miso soup came out immediately and our order was taken quickly thereafter. We ordered several rolls and everything was delivered within 5-10 minutes. I have seen better in terms of presentation and amount of fish per roll, but overall the taste was good and satisfied my craving for sushi. FYI - The inside of the restaurant isn't fully functional in terms of seating, so I imagine there might often be a wait due to the limited tables. Price came out to about $60 for 4 rolls. A tad expensive but nothing abnormal compared to other sushi joints. read more

Tried a few more of their bento box options: + Teriyaki Salmon, gyozas, California rolls (4/5) - The salmon steak was cut pretty thin (less than 1/2 inch). I was afraid it would be dry, but it wasn't. It was actually cooked well, but I thought the teriyaki sauce was too sweet and sticky. + Teriyaki beef, gyozas, California rolls (5/5) - slices of beef was tender with just a little bit of fat. Really enjoyed this. + Karaage chicken (2/5) - these were little pieces of chicken cubes. Each piece was like the size of a sugar cube, and they actually resemble square cubes. It was dry. The sauce tasted like Worcestershire sauce. Do not recommend. We've had a few misses here, but the good outweighed the bad. Still lots of delicious options to choose from. read more

This has been a local go-to for Japanese food for me for years. I sense a lack of energy though in this establishment to keep up. The sushi chefs never greet me as they did happily at Thornton many years ago. Their second door was propped open with a high chair, opening and banging close in the breeze - it was tacky and a bit disrupting. Recently their Flaming Dragon roll came out with half the flame, resulting in a barely warm roll inside, not seared as it should be. Overall, the quality of their fish is mid-level - sometimes the raw cuts can be fishy. I haven't seen this large place full in years. Competition is high in the restaurant world. I wonder how long they will be able to maintain two locations in Fremont. That all said, I think this place still has potential. With more attention to detail and some small changes they could be worthy of more stars to me. read more

You order online. It takes around 30mins for your food to be ready if you order at 5pm. You paid online using credit card and they email me the time food when good will be ready. No soup. Most place gives you free soup, not this place. We like the beef teriyaki because sushi is just ok. Chirashi rice does not have enough rice vinegar. All dishes come with. There are 2 Satomi's in Fremont, so just be sure you're ordering at the correct one you want. They can be pretty pricey, but we really like the food here, so we keep going back. Before COVID, they were very sweet with our boys, making sure they got what they needed, made sure the soup was safe for them. Now with COVID, they seem to be taking a lot of great precautions. Food is still great. My only thing is to be mindful when you're bringing your food home or ordering via a delivery service. They pack their food a little differently, not sure why they put the smaller packages in the bottom. It's fine when it's on the table, because it sits up fine. BUT if you have to drive it home alone, you have to find a way to make sure it doesn't tip over. =/ As for the food, the salmon teriyaki is great. So far, I've enjoyed all the sushi we've tried. The tempura is still nice and crunchy when we get home. This is still our go-to Japanese place. read more
