It seemed that they were having people pay by credit card today so it was either cash or ordering online. Opted to order online just to dine in. Holy 5 star review!! Came to try this place after we saw GrubWitMike (a bay area foodie legend) post about this place and it did NOT disappoint. Of course we had to try it because it's in the area. We kept our order simple: 1) Soy Garlic Wings 2) Honey Butter Wings and 3) Picked Radish. We doordashed our order and even from Fremont all the way to Union City the wings stayed fresh. They are PACKED with flavor and extremely crunchy. On top of that the pickled radish tied the entire meal together. I'm not even lying to you when I say my siblings and I killed our entire order. My personal favorite was the soy garlic wings. It's a classic that tied together with the crunch of the chicken. The honey butter wings are on the sweeter side with a hint of cheese. Although this Vons Chicken is one of their smaller interior locations that I have been to (although they do have a larger front patio), the staff is accommodating and quick. Our order: -Honey Butter Fried Chicken Great crunch and texture. Perfectly prepared chicken with a sweet powder. One of my favorite "dry" Korean Fried Chicken flavors. -Soy Garlic Fried Chicken (sauce on the side) This was my first time having the fried chicken sauce less... and I am not mad at it. You can clearly taste and see the crunchy goodness of the chicken. And being able to dip it in the sauce was interesting. The sauce flavors were more pronounced this way, but I think i still rather enjoy it tossed in the sauce. -Soy & Black Vinegar The Flavors were full of Umami. It was decent, but I think my palette still prefers the soy garlic. Side of steam rice -Steam rice costs extra, but for me, it is a necessary side since I feel that the rice brings out the flavors of the main dish. I gave it the ultimate test of to-go portability in that I ordered online (easy), asked for sauces on the side (a built-in order option), picked up (ready, hot, and friendly), and then drove four hours with it in the car. When I got home it was not soggy, and all I had to do was warm in the oven and toss in the sauce. Perfect! Absolutely loved their daikon "wraps" (a 3" round of flat daikon slice to use like a tortilla with your chicken). Loved their boneless chicken with the crispy soy garlic ($17.99 half order - about a pound) and the Yang-Nyum ($18.99 half order) with sauces on the side. I ordered both "spicy" and they were!Came with a ginger-mayo slaw, and also ordered the cubed daikon. The to-go packaging was folded so it was vented and didn't get soggy. I came in with a party of 3. We ordered the Gangjeong Glaze half combo, spicy soy garlic half combo, japchae, and French fries. The Gangjeong Glaze was delicious; sweet yet savory. The chicken was moist and soft. I dipped the French fries into the remaining sauce from the chicken. The French fries are a really fun thick cut shape. The flavor was what you'd expect from French fries. The spicy soy garlic was also really good but the Gangjeong Glaze was more favored amongst the table. If you're not good with spice, just go with mild, all of us thought it was a little too spicy but that's our fault for having a low tolerance. The japchae was good but clumped up into a block after a while. We ended up leaving with 3 drumsticks and some japchae as leftovers. My 1st time ordering here and I've never heard of Vons before. Very friendly cashier who gave me information about each type of chicken. I landed up ordering the spicy chicken, garlic and soy garlic chicken. I chose drumsticks because I'm too lazy to eat wings! LOL! Each box contained 5 large pieces of drumsticks! I was impressed! Cooked perfectly crispy, moist and tender huge chunks of meat. The spicy was my favorite, I felt the 2 garlic flavored ones were on the sweeter side and I really didn't taste much garlic at all unfortunately. Regardless, all 3 boxes of chicken were fresh, moist, tender and tasty. I also ordered the JapChae and Ttebeokki. Nice, large portion of JapChae, but unfortunately the Ttebeokki was really underwhelming and didn't even look appetizing. It was like they ran out of sauce and barely added any to this dish. The rice cakes were practically white and not even 100% covered in sauce/flavor. That was truly disappointing as I was looking forward to eating my rice cakes! Ugh! When I got my chicken, it was hot and fresh from the fryer. OMG, there's nothing like fresh and hot fried chicken! Super crispy and crunchy....so good! The wings and drums were meaty. I forgot to count how many I had in the order. The one negative thing was the garlic sauce flavor. It was very mild, and a bit of a let down. I was expecting a spicy garlicky bite, but it was very mild. I wonder if I had a choice between mild and spicy garlic sauce. They didn't ask when they took my order. Service was friendly and polite. The restaurant has a small dining room and an outside patio with umbrellas for shade. Vons Chicken is in the Lucky's shopping center, a few doors away from Starbucks and Menchie's Frozen Yogurt. I have always loved Vons Chicken. Hands down, I preferred this over Bonchon. The crispy honey cheese is, for me, the best in Korean fried chicken. It's been awhile, though and I have not had Vons Chicken since the pandemic. That being said, I was pretty disappointed with my last order after a very long time since I last had this. Quality seemed to have gone down. My last order seemed a little dry, making me wonder if this had been sitting under a heat lamp. This place holds a special place in my heart because it was where I had my second date with my boyfriend. We ordered the Crispy Fried Chicken with Honey Butter and the Crispy Fried Chicken with Cheddar. It was like a perfect blend of fried chicken and karage, a combination that's quite rare. The chicken was juicy and not at all dry, and the sprinkled powder added an extra burst of flavor. The restaurant itself was spacious, clean, and well-lit. Although we dined there for dinner, the bright ambiance made it feel like lunch, which might suggest they have nothing to hide--just great chicken! Wow. This was a very disappointing experience. We had come here at the beginning of the month and ordered Fried Chicken and Onion Rings. Everything was great! Today, we were heading home from Morgan Hill. Traffic was less than ideal and I wanted a short respite from the craziness. I got off at Mowry and headed to Von's for some Onion Rings. The order taker was the same efficient one that I saw last visit. I told him that I just wanted one order of Onion Rings. He asked if it was to-go. Yes, it was. When I pulled out my wallet, he asked if I had cash, which I did. There was a sign on the cash register that said that there was a minimum charge of $15 before credit cards were accepted. (That is a violation of most, if not all, credit card processing contracts. There is not supposed to be any minimum). He told me it would be about six minutes. I didn't time it, but it seemed like it took more than six minutes. When my order was ready, he handed it to me and thanked me for my business. I took it out to my car, opened the bag and pulled out the box to take a picture. The top flaps of the box were taped together. Once I pulled apart the flaps, I could see that the Onion rings were quite dark. Upon tasting them, they were burnt. The batter was extra crispy, and I couldn't taste the onions at all. If the recipe calls for frying the Rings in 375-degree oil for 3 to 4 minutes, I'm guessing these were fried 5 to 6 minutes. Oil temperature was probably not the problem. The Rings were not greasy nor were they stuck together. That also indicates that dropping the Rings did not overly cool the oil. I think that either the wrong timer was used or was forgotten all together. The restaurant did not appear to be busy. There was one table of four seated and eating and one other customer waiting for her order. There were no other customers that came in after me. My first three jobs were in restaurants. Human beings make mistakes. Compounding the mistake by serving the mistake is inexcusable. The order should have been restarted. If the cook didn't recognize the Rings were burnt, additional training is called for. I'll remember this the next time I crave Onion Rings. They probably won't be coming from Von's. read more

I ordered both the cheddar flavor (I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this one, I was just curious what a cheddar flavored chicken would taste like, lol) & the soy garlic. Great crisp and good pairing with ranch -crispy yangyum half combo mild: too sweet for my taste buds. One of the best Korean fried chicken spots in the area! I come to this place every month when I crave Korean fried chicken. I usually get the honey butter flavor, which is more on the sweet side. It pairs well with the radish side dish. If I want something more saucey and spicy, I'd opt for the Yang-Nyum flavor. Has a great kick to it, similar flavor to the Buldak ramen packets. The two half orders were enough to feed 3 of us. The chicken was moist and plump on the inside, and nice and crunchy on the outside. After eating the very flavorful garlic chicken, the crunch chicken seemed a tad bland, so if you get an assortment I recommend eating the crunch chicken first. The chicken was cooked thoroughly and the sauce was coated generously. The chicken fell a little on the flat end in terms of juiciness on the inside. The spice level may be a little high for those who have low tolerance and since they have only mild or spicy, you may end up having to ask for a more customized spice level if not too confident with your tolerance. Service was fine--we requested for gloves to eat with and they brought them out even tho it was not a part of the table setting. The wipes at the end with the bill was also a good addition. Seating could be arranged a little better as some of the seats are right up against the sectional separating the seating area from the preparation area and may feel a little tight. I've been coming to this place for years and it's always been a top tier place to come eat at whenever I'm craving some good Korean fried chicken! When I heard that they're releasing a chicken sandwich, I knew that I had to try and see how good it would be. I came here on a Wednesday afternoon and got seated immediately. Right away, I noticed the menu posted with their new items. I decided on the crispy chicken sandwich combo #3, choosing the spicy soy garlic as my flavor. The sandwich was SO good! The chicken itself was piping hot and I had to take a few seconds to cool off my next bite, so be a little careful! The bun itself was buttery and crispy and soft all at the same time, giving each bite an extra crunch along with the chicken. They add coleslaw and the radish paper which I think perfectly balances out the saltiness of the meat itself. The fries were also piping hot and they were also well-done with the crispiness. By the end of my lunch, I was extremely full and definitely doubted how filling it would be!
