Get your strips from Sunnyvale instead! We did some investigation and it turns out Bonchon is transitioning to frozen, pre-breaded strips as a corporate policy. Both Newark and Mountain View have the same, terrible strips. Only Sunnyvale still makes fresh, delicious strips that are worth buying. I've added photos for comparison. This Bonchon is located in a quiet area, it is in the Cedar Springs plaza. There is plenty of parking in their parking lot here. This location is also more clean and modern than the other few locations I had been in the East Bay. I usually get the 4 piece drums with half and half (half plain and half soy garlic). I like that this location gives me that option because some of the other locations does not give me the option to do half and half. I had tried their spicy drums as well, it was good, but I like their plain and soy garlic more. Their pickled radish is pretty good as a side as well. I read more

My go-to is usually the spicy flavored wings with radish, I always love the seasoning! I like to pick up from here for a quick meal that's great to share. The portions have varied sometimes, but I've had more positive experiences with the consistency than not! The side dishes are not my favorite so I usually stick to the main. Overall, everyone is friendly, everything is clean, and it is usually quick. There is not much of a wait when at the restaurant, but I don't know if there are any peak hours. read more

Okay, have their quality gone down and prices up?! I ordered drumstick and wings combo, however, those weren't wings. They were like frozen chicken tenders you'd buy at the grocery store rolled around their sauce. The fried rice wasn't so bad but it was so disappointing I'm not sure will ever be back. read more

Hugely disappointed in this establishment. Never again. So I booked a large tray of wings for next day takeout for a Thanksgiving day potluck. I made sure both grubhub and their own website were accepting orders for the holiday Thursday. They both absolutely were. I got the email confirmation as well. Good sign. So the next day (today) I get a charge on my CC for my bonchon order. Cool. Another good sign. At my pick up time I drove up almost expecting to be let down based on my last bad experience with this place. The sign was flashing "open". Things are looking good. Then upon closer examination, no lights inside. Then a tiny paper sign on the door saying "closed". My stomach sank from the utter disappointment I was feeling. I was missing one of my main potluck promises for today. What a piece of sh1t. Their automated systems couldn't have contacted me or cancelled my order? Even today, no one could take the time to inform me of their decision to close today? Yet, they can take my money? I'll dispute the charge now, but honestly the money doesn't matter. The fried chicken was still warm when my dad returned home with it and some of the pieces were pretty big. The flavors were good but I feel like the chicken could've used more sauce/flavor and crunch to make it tastier. There wasn't quite enough crunch when I bit into the chicken. Overall this location of Bonchon is okay and not super special. I feel like the SJ Bonchon locations are better and that there are better Korean fried chicken places elsewhere. The chicken was yummy, I only wish that there were more flavors! I was a bit unsure about paying so much, but we were really happy with the crispiness and yummy seasoning (soy garlic), so I think it's worth it for a special treat. Not the best I've ever had, but a really solid one that I prefer over other local fried chicken options, and I believe the hype. We took it home to eat as it was a bit late, but the restaurant looked clean inside. The small entrance feels deceptive to the actual space somehow lol, not that it's a huge store. The wait to receive our food wasn't very long at all, so happy with that. But the person at the register was a bit pushy and kind of bulldozed over me when I wasn't ready to order. He also kept asking for my details to record as a customer when I said I didnt want to be. An interesting style of food. This place is known for its wings. I believe this place is a good casual meal to go to. I was disappointed in the boneless wings. It tasted very bland and not fresh. Much better experience from the last time I've tried Bonchon (south bay). We ordered a big to-go for dinner and they got everything right and made on time. The last time I went to Bonchon, I got the drumsticks only and remembered they were HUGE and semi dry - which was partly the reason I was whatever about this place. THIS TIME though, I got the COMBO wings and drumsticks (half/half of Soy Garlic and Spicy). These were a lot smaller and more juicy/tender. Apparently, they don't give extra sauce on the side even if you offer to pay extra. We asked if we could get some of spicy and the soy garlic sauce on the side since some people like extra sauce or dipping it. This review is solely based on the service we witnessed. We came in on a Friday night several weeks ago and were promptly sat by our server who was very kind and seemed new. We ended up ordering with either the owner, manager, or supervisor, though, because she came up to us while our original server was busy with another task. It was a pretty quiet night. So quiet in fact, that we were able to hear said owner or manager confront our server about something after she took our order. It's possibly unrelated to the fact that the manager had to take our order instead of our server but it was followed by a lot of micromanaging. The manager was keeping a close look on every thing our server did the rest of our stay and it made for an uncomfortable rest of the night. My suggestion? Keep your confrontations and micromanaging at the back of the house. Completely unprofessional otherwise. Also? Give your servers a chance to explain and talk before cutting them mid-conversation. Don't be so quick to assume your staff isn't doing anything just because that's all you choose to see. Food is as you'd expect from any other Bonchon location. read more

Tried this place for the first time for lunch. Place was clean and ambiance was great. I ordered a bulgogi bibimbap for lunch with a side of KimChi. Bibimbap looked great but was bland. The bulgogi was so bland that when mixed in with the rice just lost all flavor. The veggies that were mixed in specially the spinach were also bland. The distinct taste of toasted sesame oil is also missing which I believe makes the dish come together. Service is great though. read more

I like bonchon a lot, when i say a lot i mean i eat it 2x a month on the weekends. However, they recently change the menu and now they no longer have 30 pcs chicken wings package anymore, and the price even stayed the same. Idk who thought this is a good idea, but please bring back the 30 pcs set of wings as that is a lot of people's go-to's. read more

11/17/2019 My first time at Bonchon Chicken and honestly I did not know what to expect. I knew that it was Korean fried chicken, but had no idea there were flavors to choose from. We ended up trying the 24 chicken sampler ($26) of Sweet, Soy Garlic and Spicy Fried Chicken. Those suckers were huge! Like they were on steroids. If you are use to the WingStop size like we are, these aren't that. These are about 2-3 times that size. I ate 3 and was full. The batter is very thick and filling. We also ordered zucchini fries and a Salmon Bomb. Everything was good, but just not (temperature) hot. I like my hot food, hot. You'd think that if it was just fried, it would be burn the roof of your mouth hot, but it wasn't. The food came out fast, but strangely was lukewarm not newly cooked hot. We packed most of it to bring home to our teenager. Chicken was just okay. Probably a one and done for us. read more

There was an issue with the pick up time and they called and left a voicemail, and waited until I called back to confirm the timing before cooking the order so everything was fresh. We ordered a few items - Medium chicken combo, comes with 10 wings and 5 drums - Fried rice - Takoyaki - Some chicken dish (forgot the name) The only things we really enjoyed was the chicken and coleslaw, everything else was alright. We got half spicy and half garlic soy flavored chicken. I preferred the spicy. They got a little soggy because we got delivery, I'm sure they are more crispy when eaten in store. The rice was nothing special. The takoyaki was alright, there were way too much of the fish shavings (don't remember what they are called) on top, this made it super fishy. The chicken dish was not what we were expecting, it was a curry type dish with the Korean rice cakes in it. It didn't have much of a description on the menu so I guess I was just surprised with what we ended up getting. It tasted fine, just wasn't what we were expecting. I remember this Bonchon being better but it has fallen off. The wings are barely coated with sauce to the point that we ordered the soy garlic and spicy flavor and there was no way to discern which was which. We also ordered the seasoned fries, which I don't recommend. The fries itself are good but the seasoning was just parmesan cheese and did not adhere well to the fries.
