This is the 2nd time going to this location that our Uber Eats order was messed up. The 1st time, someone misplaced our order so we literally had to wait another 45 min for them to make it. The 2nd time, out order was made wrong: 1) No sauce for Bibimpap so it just became a tofu chicken-less salad, 2) Wanted to add diced chicken (as with other locations) to it but they were lazy and just gave us 2 drumsticks instead. I remember this Bonchon being better but it has fallen off. The wings are barely coated with sauce to the point that we ordered the soy garlic and spicy flavor and there was no way to discern which was which. We also ordered the seasoned fries, which I don't recommend. The fries itself are good but the seasoning was just parmesan cheese and did not adhere well to the fries. Ordered some lunch specials during Covid-19. Food was pretty underwhelming, my biggest complaint about the chicken was that they did not package the containers right. They completely sealed the chicken in the box and the plastic bag. By the time we go home (10 min drive) the chicken was soggy and lost it's crunch Bonchon is known for. The only upside is they let you pick two sauces (half & half) for the lunch specials. I highly recommend calling in first as they only allow 1 person inside at a time. I went here with my boyfriend on a Saturday for lunch around 1:15pm and there was no wait. I've tried other Bonchon locations before and loved it so I was excited when we found out they have one in Newark! When we got seated, they're menu looked a lot more fancier than other locations, even the restaurant looked nicer too so that's a huge plus! We ordered the half & half chicken plate (choice of 2 wing flavors) with an order of rice and seasoned fries on the side. The flavors we chose was the spicy wings and the soy garlic flavor. When our food arrived, the presentation looked very nice and the wings were bigger than usual. Since I've been to other Bonchon locations before; I know that the wings at this location are smaller than the other locations. The temperature of the food could've been a little hotter. Yeah, it was warm on the inside, but the outside of the chicken wings felt cold. The food was still very good though! I'd recommend this place! I visited again. I wanted to give this location another chance because all of the other locations have been great. But if it's not even good a third time, why would I ever bother coming back again? I wouldn't. I can't and I won't. Sorry, Newark BC. I gave you a third chance and it just doesn't cut it. It's a miracle- I typically don't ever give out second chances even. This makes me want to stick by that rule even more now. Yikes. So, what went wrong, you ask. Where do I start? The restaurant was barely half full when we got there and we had to actually wait a bit to be seated. Clearly, they were short staffed because they had that sign in the window and a few people were waiting as well. But that's fine- it's a Friday night. Once we were seated, our order was taken fairly quickly. It was promising from there. But once we got our loaded fries, it all went downhill. The fries are nowhere near worth the $7. They're not decked out with any special sauces or real garlic even. Save your money. My bf and I never finish an appetizer. It took us that long to get our chicken that we ate a whole, giant basket of fries. I know that they forgot our order because more than one table who sat down after us had received their chicken. How bad is that? Pretty damn awful, if you ask me. The only saving grace is that these two stars are for the one guy working there who really seemed to care. He probably bought into this franchise. Good luck, bro. Because it's been going downhill. Not sure if you bought the business from someone else or you've been running it since it first opened, but things have to change. This is the worst Bonchon I've ever been to in my life. Ordered wings for takeout. At home I opened up the container and every wing was just soggy and gross. I immediately called back to have new ones made and bring back the old ones. The teenage cashier was super rude claiming that "they've always been like that." You mean terrible and not made to order? She said they get soggy if they've been sitting around for a while - thanks for confirming that you're giving away old chicken. It's probably just this location but I'll never go back here again. I have now been to Bonchon a few times and they never fail to pack the flavor. I like the variety on chicken flavors, but I wish they had a pancit dish to go along with all the goodness already on their menu. I just always crave it when I am gnoshing on their goodies. The venue itself is nicely decorated and welcoming. Nice bar area if you wanted to catch a game and multi-task over a meal. The hosts are always happy to assist and they know the menu inside and out! I have never seen one of them even glance while I was babbling on about my order. LOL Impressive these days. Fairly young staff so if they get distracted just course correct and ask for a bit more attention... this is not a fine dining experience by any means so if you come in expecting that, you set yourself up to fail. I went here with a large group of friends and even though this Bonchon is more quiet than some of the others locations. The food and service were fantastic. The waiter was kind and often checked up on us throughout our meal and making sure our waters were filled (which is so important when eating the spicy food!) We ordered wings, chicken strips, and the bul dak. Originally, they forgot the rice cakes in the Bul Dak, but the manager was super nice and immediately fixed it by making me a new dish. The bone in wings were also extremely juicy and were easy to eat, unlike my experience at some of the other locations. The best part is that this location is on the edge of a small strip mall with lots of parking and the location is great to meet up before doing other events in the area! read more

Honestly I feel like you can't ever go wrong with Bonchon! I'll agree that there are a lot of korean fried chicken places out there now, but Bonchon is probably one of the better ones in this area. Their wings are always consistent - saucy, crunchy, and super delicious! They also offer a variety of other things on their menu such as spicy rice cake or even fusion dishes such as tacos and sliders. Whenever I crave some korean friend chicken, Bonchon is usually my go-to because of all the options and the quality of the wings! I wish they'd offer more wing flavors, so I guess that's my only con for this place. On top of that, service has always been pretty solid every time I came to this place. The chicken in the bibimbap was also lacking but maybe that was for the best--it had almost no flavor to it and had the texture of something I hocked up during a sinus infection. The spinach had this bizarre rubbery texture and no matter how much I chewed it it wouldn't break down. Even the rice tasted funny--how the hell do they even do that? It's rice! I thought I'd give them a chance and contact them on their website before writing a review to see if they could somehow make it right like they ask on every negative review here (if only I checked yelp first) but that was three days ago and I've heard squat. So the two stars I might have given is now one. Not really sure how they would have made it better considering I don't really see any reason to ever come back to this place. The boyfriend and I went to Bonchon in the early afternoon and was pleased that there was no wait. We were immediately seated and placed our orders. The boyfriend and I shared the Medium Combo, half Soy Garlic and half Spicy. The Soy Garlic was tasty, but mediocre when I compare it to other Soy Garlic chicken wings I've had in the past. In contrast, the Spicy was good! It had a nice kick to it and I definitely preferred it over the Soy Garlic. Service was awesome. I believe our server's name was Paula and she was great! She checked up on us often, refilled our beverages, and gave us additional napkins without even having to ask. Thanks! Overall, for my first time at Bonchon it wasn't bad. Service was good, food was alright, but I thought prices were a little steep. The restaurant was clean and spacious, and atmosphere was laid back. Although the wings here can't compare to San Tung's or other Chinese Korean restaurants I've been to, Bonchon is still a cool spot for your chicken wing craving.
