We have a teenager with severe sesame allergies and we were very explicit about not having any nuts or sesame seeds in the food... we repeated it multiple times yet they still made the food with sesame seeds ! When we returned to the store and mentioned this and gave us attitude that we hadn't specified that!! Like how rude to talk back and not apologize for their mistake. Don't they realize how severe an anaphylactic reaction is!??. I would give Bonchon Schaumburg 5 stars. I ordered via Uber Eats, so I can't say anything about the dine in experience, but for the price I paid, I think the portion and food was worth it. The beef bulgogi was pretty tasty, and I like the hot sauce that they have available as well. I wish they included soy sauce and utensils with the order, but other than that, good food, they made it quick, and on time. Maybe I'll have to try their chicken next time. read more

I've been to many Bonchon on my travels and this is a solid branch. When I stopped by for lunch, the waitstaff consisted of one with four tables of diners. I was a bit concerned about the turn around, but my order was taken promptly and the kitchen turned it around quickly. Everything was cooked well and I thoroughly enjoyed my choices. I saw a lot of customers come in and leave because they were standing by the door for a long time without being greeted. This is not the one employee's fault. He was doing 4 people's jobs. Note: You must go to the guy to give your order. Do not wait for him to go to your table. They were out of udon. It would help if their menu indicated this. Food was good. However, it took a long time for our food to be served. Perhaps they need more kitchen staff, too. Also, the pacing was wrong. We were given the main dishes first before the appetizers. Discovered this place a few years back because I heard Korean chicken was the best, and I can agree! It's not oily at all and has a great crunch still. We love getting the strips for convenience. I typically do half and half, but sometimes the spicy gets too spicy sometimes for us. We love that it comes with a side dish of your choice, such as coleslaw or pickled radish! I've only chosen pickled radish, so I'm not sure how the coleslaw is. I wish they did still have the sweet chili sauce, but sadly it was limited time only. Hopefully it comes back as a permanent one! We love the bulgogi fries too! Even though it wasn't super crispy (just our preference but also we got it as a to-go order), we still loved it so much! We would definitely get it again. Wow wow wow. Let me tell you this place was delicious! My fiancé and I came here after seeing many good reviews on TikTok. We ordered 10 drumsticks. Five of them were soy garlic and five of them were hot. They come with complementary pickled radishes. OK this place is kind of pricey. I paid like almost $30 with tax for 10 drumsticks. Tried it for the first time today. Had the lunch special of 4 drumsticks and got 2 in soy garlic and 2 in spicy with regular fries. Chicken was nice and crispy, good crust on it and I liked both sauces. Fries were also nice and crispy and I got a good portion of fries for being lunch. Overall good. The place was a bit sparse and seemed like just a bunch of tables put out into a big open space. Not much decor like the space was just an afterthought. I think it would look better in a smaller spot with less tables and some decorating done. Bit heavy meal for lunch (ready for a nap) but glad I tried it. I'm loving the mainstream abundance of Korean Fried Chicken these days. There was a time when you couldn't find a halfway decent KFC spot in Chicago, let alone a suburb like Schaumburg. Then, when Bonchon first arrived in Chicago they only had the Chinatown location. Back then, I was ecstatic to find out I could get it delivered from Chinatown to my office via Chowbus. Now, not only is Bonchon in the area, but there are also multiple options to choose from with bb.q Chicken and Kogii Kogii also nearby. I'm merely minutes away from some delicious Korean fried chicken whenever I get the crave. There's just something about Korean chicken wings that put them on another level for me. They just have that awesome crunch from the thin outer shell but it's somehow super light and not at all greasy. That cornstarch and double frying really creates an amazing texture. The skin isn't heavily breaded or battered, and is very thin while at the same time they somehow achieve a light airiness between the skin and the meat that seemed to highlight the juiciness of the chicken. The flavor isn't generated from some heavy sauce that is tossed on the wing, but rather seems to just be baked right into the wing itself. Our go-to order is the half and half wings. The wings actually contain a mix of drumettes and wingettes and the "drums" listed on their menu are literally the full size drumsticks, so don't order the combo if you were expecting drumettes instead. Half and half consists of both the hot & spicy and soy garlic flavors. The hot and spicy definitely had a kick to it, but it's not that painful type of spicy. It was that flavorful type of savory spice that keeps you wanting more even though you're building up a sweat from eating it. The soy garlic was on the milder side from both a heat and flavor intensity perspective, but it had the nice balance of sweet and savory. For the sides we got the seasoned fries and the kimchi bacon fried rice. I was pretty surprised by how good the fries were. The fries were battered and seasoned, and came out hot and crispy. The kimchi fried rice was super moist and had a nice spicy umami flavor to it. The kimchi mixed in added a crunchy texture to the bite and the bacon provided some smokiness. It was just missing a fried egg on top, which would've completed the dish. Overall, I think Bonchon is best Korean wing in the area. It's easy to doubt a chain restaurant, but it's just consistently delicious. read more

Bonchon has been here almost a year now and this was my first visit. We've wanted to try this for some time now but for some reason, we just never made it. So, after seeing a movie, we went out for some Korean Fried Chicken! There was a short wait to be seated. My only complaint about my visit was even though there was a wait, they had plenty of tables. But, when they seat parties of two, they move two tables together with four chairs leaving others to wait. I found that odd. When we were seated (about a 10-minute wait so not too bad), we were given menus. It is very diverse. Yes, they are known for their chicken, but they have more traditional Korean and Korean-American dishes. We went there for the chicken, so we got the chicken - an order of 10 sweet and crispy tenders, slaw, fries, and kimchi. Going backward - the kimchi was very good. Sour, spicy, crunchy, all of the things you love (or hate) about it. The fries were served Belgian style (see my picture). I didn't have any of the slaw, but there was much more chicken than either of us expected. When we first saw the prices, I thought they were a little high. But 10 nuggets are probably four meals for me. So, the fries were served in a paper waffle cone, as I said - Belgian style. They were crisp and hot - right out of the fryer. But, they were not greasy. I can't speak to the slaw but my wife was very happy with it. But, the chicken was outstanding. It was sweet, and I think I was expecting a sweet-hot sauce, but it was very tasty. They did a great job of caramelizing the sauce so it was crisp as they described. The service was really good once we were seated. We must have gotten there at the busy time because, when we left, there was no wait and tables were available. Bonchon is an accommodating little eatery that serves a tastily select menu by a friendly staff. What they do well is wings. And that's what has had this spot on my Want To Try list for some time. After finally having the pleasure I'm glad to have stopped in for a bite. Naturally, I had the wings. The flavors are not vast but each have a uniqueness all its own. In fact, I can't pick a favorite! In addition to the wings, I had edamame and fries. The edamame was a tad undercooked but the fries tasted double-fried and were delicious! I'm glad I did not over-hype this spot in my mind because I think it is good, but not great. Nothing particularly stops it from being great it just sits nicely in the "that's a good spot" category that is there when you need it. In the future I can see myself returning while in the area but I probably won't make a special trip. read more

I went on a chicken wing craze this weekend, and bonchon was the last on my list. I was pleasantly surprised that it was a sit down rather than counter service. It was quite empty on this Monday for dinner, so the service was quick and attentive. The space was clean and big too. We got the small combination of sweet crunch and soy garlic, as well as an extra order of 5 spicy wings. The spicy were my favorite, though it wasn't very spicy at all unfortunately. We also ordered the kimchi bacon fried rice and a salad, and both were delicious. I paired with a sapporo, as they were out of their korean beers this night. A great experience overall! Came in for lunch on a weekday, pretty vacant and service was super prompt. There was just one girl hosting and serving and she was kind and quick. We got the lunch special with chicken strips and seasoned fries, the 3 pork buns, and takoyaki (not pictured). The chicken strips look unassuming but are so flavorful, tender, and crispy--that crispy coating is nice and thick, and addicting. The seasoned fries are a great thickness and the seasoning is not too overwhelming. Just a tad on the small side with not too much meat Potstickers- 4 stars- I love that you can choose a sauce for these as quite often I'll recook ones I get in a sauce at home. They are a bit on the small side as well. The flavor of everything is delicious. I wish there was a hoisin or even side of soy garlic honey sauce option for the side. I live two blocks from the Wicker Park location so go to Bonchon more than any normal human should. I'm obsessed, love their food, love the city locations. I'm super happy about this Schaumburg location so I can hit them up at lunchtime while I'm at work...but...this location lacks some of the pizzazz of the city locations. My friend and I were the first people in at lunch last week just a bit after opening. We ordered and my friend's food came out within 10 minutes. My food took 30 minutes to come out. It was...just a bit much. Especially when you're going on a lunch period. I know their food is made to order but...Schaumburg is all about quick lunch spots for all the business people here. Now the food was good, but it lacked some of the crispness of other locations. My chicken came out piping hot and was a great sized portion...it just wasn't quite as crisp nor flavorful as other Bonchons I've been to. That all being said, service was good at this location and I'm sure I'll be back for more of their awesome lunch deals. Great food, I ordered the wheat noodle soup with a fried egg and the food came to my table still boiling in a clay bowl! If you love your soup hot and fresh, you will love it here. I am finished and my bowl is still really hot! It was perfect... not overly seasoned! I highly recommend it! They should be called WFC (Worst Fried Chicken). This Bonchon has discovered the secret to maximizing profits with minimal overhead expense. Management wants to save a penny to lose a buck which may work in other industries but is a massive risk in the cut-throat restaurant world. First, this place is really stingy with napkins. It's a place that offers wings, people will need tons of napkins or towelettes. Ask for more napkins, and you get two. I am sure they have written a manual for the staff on what to give and how much. Second, portion sizes like fries and Coleslaw are almost half what you will get compared to other Bonchon places. Third, the food is the main reason we come to a restaurant to spend our hard-earned money. It's from a fridge, reheated, and probably made a day or two before. It is not fresh, to say the least. Ordered spicy chicken tacos and got sweet chicken. With a place like this, sending it back would be another risk. The fried chicken is soggy, mind you owe we dined in. The wings are tiny, and the coating is using less is more philosophy. This is already a pricy option for what it offers. The fresh food and quantity justified the higher price range for wings. Why should I go back? No reason to go or recommend when other Bonchons exist that do not practice this stingy policy. They could save tons of money, which is an excellent strategy in the long run; when customers like me figure it out, it's a lose-lose situation. Lose your money and lose your appetite. I really hope management figures out how to get their act together. Otherwise, it's not better than KFC or Popeyes; their chicken is usually fresher. WARNING * this location is under new ownership and we were very disappointed with the food quality and portions. We used to love this place but just ordered in March 2021 and though their prices are the same , they DRASTICALLY cut their portion size. We used to rationalize payer the steeper prices because the portion size was reasonable and the quality was outstanding! Not the case now. The Seasoned French fries were also different and not crispy , so if you take out expect them to be soggy. Also the chicken strips are a joke to call them strips. At best they are 1/3 the size they used to be and more of a nugget than a strip. Also there was virtually no sauce on either of the chicken items we ordered making them very dry. Coleslaw containers seem smaller and were half filled. The new owner was very kind and apologetic, however we are unlikely to return. We are very sad because this really was a favorite takeout location for our family and one of the few great fried chicken locations around, we are sad we will have to find a new place. Korean style fried chicken.  Starting in Korea in 2002, the Bonchon chain specializes in highly flavored chicken wings, strips, and fusion Korean dishes. They are presently on a tear spreading across the United States. I had onion rings as a starter, pretty conventional prep, a heavier breading, not ultra crisp. Moved into the strips, an order of six, which I requested "half and half", that is half "Spicy" and half "Soy Garlic" for seasonings. There's no "sauce on the side" option here, they come seasoned, period. And they are delightful, super crispy, extremely flavorful, something really different, and juicy white tenders inside. The Salmon Ball was a change for me, served chilled, it is a mix of avocado, crab, cucumber, wrapped in lightly seared salmon and topped with spicy mayo, unagi sauce and crunchy tempura bits. Very nice. Bonchon has locations in New Jersey, California, New York, Connecticut, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, and Texas, and Hawaii. I love Bonchon. My first exposure of it was at the Glenview location. The Schaumburg location was great too. I went with the soy ginger boneless chicken strips and as expected, the chicken was seasoned and fried to a perfect crisp. Phenomenal. We had a party of 15 and the staff was super accommodating a took care of us. Food came out at a timely manner and everything was great. Besides the chicken, we also ordered fries, onion rings, potstickers, and some sliders. The sliders you had a choice of ribeye or chicken, and we went with the chicken. It was decent, but I felt like there was more bread than meat ratio. The onion rings were surprisingly good too. I wasn't too much of a fan with the potstickers, as I felt like it was too crispy for my liking. Eight potstickers came in one order. Overall, still a great spot to dine at. So happy to see more Bonchon Chicken locations popping up in the Chicagoland area. read more
