Bonchon in Tucson??? I was excited to hear this news. I am a huge fan and have had Bonchon in Seoul, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Phoenix. I had the 2 drumsticks and 6 wings combo in soy garlic and an order of seasoned fries. The fries were great, but the portion was much smaller than I had expected. The chicken was not of the quality I was used to. It was very much overcooked. The meat was dry and in some areas desiccated. The crunchy outside was overly crunchy that you could barely taste the soy garlic sauce through the cracker-like crust. Granted, this was a Sunday afternoon, so maybe they had the "B" team working. Would I give them a second try? Probably not. Between the low quality of food and the asinine ingress and egress of their parking lot, I would not venture here again. read more

Pretty disappointed with my experience... the chicken was pretty good, but they were very stingy with the amount of fried rice they gave me. $12 for what amounts to a small bowl of rice for one person, and there wasn't any protein except egg. It's the first week they're open, mistakes will happen but the food is well worth the longer waits! The service is amazing from the minute you walk in the door u til you're handed your completed order. The inside is very small. Takes room in the back to make such a great meal. Outside seating is available but I've taken my food to go at this time to feed the family. I will be coming back weekly and fully expect the staff to all be on point within a few more weeks and a lot less waiting for customers. We enjoyed our dinner at Bonchon. My husband and I shared the medium mixed fried chicken. The chicken was fried beautifully and the sauces were tasty. We had the pickled radishes and coleslaw. The coleslaw did not have too much mayonnaise or vinegar. Surprisingly, I liked the radishes (not a radish fan). The young lady at the counter was very friendly. The chicken took a while to come out. I was excited to try this restaurant. We ordered the chicken strip stash, pork belly bao buns, and chicken katsu. The coleslaw in the buns was incredibly sweet, and not in a good way. It really overpowered the buns and I wish it was more savory. The katsu was overdone and I was missing the classic sauce. The sauce on the wings tasted like dirty fryer oil. We usually are not picky eaters, but unfortunately threw most everything away. The restaurant did not look open from the outside, but was clean inside. I would have liked for them to take more pride in what they did as when we opened our food at home whoever packaged it clearly had sauce all over their hands and was on the boxes and bags inside. read more

Let's start by saying how excited I was and have been to try this place . Korean food is so hyped right now, especially fried chicken ! I read the menu and saw some family classics I grew up and knew I had to give it a try!! ( Keeping in mind that I don't normally do chain restaurants and it's to do traditional Korean Dishes right!) Lets move on . My husband saved us a seat at the only table available ( the one with dirty garbage underneath) while I ordered . I ordered the chicken combo for him with Korean Bbp sauce. They are out of the sauce and out of the chicken ??? Huh? ok. But they they have Boneless Chicken. Sure. I ordered that in the Soy Garlic. Comes with Cole Slaw. When u make it a meal, u get an extra side . They are out of KIMCHI , PICKLED RADICH and only have fried . Well i guess my choice is fries. I order the BiBimBap. I get it with Bulgogi . I go back to the table to wait for name to be called . I will post our photos !! I will say the Bulgogi was about 4 slices of meat and my husbands boneless chicken was like McDonald's chicken nuggets. I get it..its a Franchise place ..but my Goodness. I've always loved Bonchon, from California to Tempe. I really enjoy their wing flavors and have given this location several tries. Unfortunately, the coating on the wings has been pretty disappointing. Instead of sticking to the wings, it's really hard, so when you bite down, the coating just falls off. It makes them tough to eat. Plus, the wing sizes vary a lot, which is a bit strange. The owner should visit other locations for improvement. Franchises varies in quality is understandable but this is way off. This is a disgrace to Korean chicken in general. Sadly, I think this might be my last visit if they don't think of a way to improve the coating. read more

This place is about as "Korean" as McDonald's is fine dining. I love bibimbap, but...sorry. Bonchon's "fusion" version doesn't come anywhere close to the real thing. Let me start over.. The location is difficult, but doable if you know your way around. The interior is upbeat, bright, and clean. We were there on a Sunday at lunchtime and it was busy. They have two large (4-seater?) tables and 3-4 small (2-seater) tables.Not nearly enough for the number of customers, but most just did take-out. As for the staff..not specifically unfriendly, but not particularly welcoming either. Who knows, maybe it was just an off day for them. But then there's the food...We've eaten a lot of katsu and bibimbap, just not in Tucson. So we were excited to see this place open. But holyjeemoly, katsu without the right sauce? Without the classic katsu crunchy breading? Without shredded cabbage under? Just soggy exterior, dry interior chicken cutlet on rice with a drizzle of an odd sauce and a tiny side of flavorless coleslaw. And my bibimbap?! I've never before had any without pickled veggies and a hot egg on top. This one had COLD spinach (like the kind you get in the frozen bags, not the fresh kind) and COLD!! scrambled eggs. Really? And cold shredded carrots. But hey, it did have some cooked onions and lukewarm mushrooms. No pickled veggies. No sesame seeds or oil. No classic bibimbap flavor profile, as in marinated beef cooked on the hibachi. So, no. We won't be going back if that's what "fusion" means. How hard would it be to put a tiny bit of kimchi in the corner of the little plastic container as a nod to "Korean"? You know, like the sushi places do with pickled ginger and wasabi. $30+ for two for lunch with no drinks or special sides. this review is long overdue but this definitely needs to be said. i will start with the food; personally i did not really care for the chicken even though i ordered it a little differently from how it normally comes. i got the chicken tenders plain with the soy garlic sauce on the side. i felt that the chicken was rubbery and the breading did not really stick to the chicken. however, the sauce is HEAVENLY. it is so delicious and definitely gives the food more flavor. i also got an order of potstickers and fries and they were both amazing and i would return just for those items. now i will move on to service; the store manager is the best! i have never met someone who takes the time to educate their customers on the culture of the food and how it is cooked. i explained to her my issues with the chicken and she made me different versions of each type of chicken they have to explain how it is supposed to be made and to see how i would like it. although it has been a hot minute since i have been here, i would love to give their chicken another try and support them just because i think everyone needs to come see this place and support this business! read more

I had the 5 chicken strips with spicy sauce and they were huge and delicious. Nice and hot but didn't blow the rood off my mouth. I also ordered the pork potstickers, am No would not recommend them at all. They were dried on all sides, very crunchy and tasteless, all for $10, sorry but I would not try them again. Fried chicken was crunchy, juicy and seasoned well. Close enough to what we had tried in SK. Tteokbokki however was very spicy , oh man I couldn't eat it. I was so excited to see Bonchon open today while my partner was getting a sub from next door. I had the japchae and pork belly bao. I really appreciated that, in spite of how busy they were, they honored my special requests in both dishes. My food was a little pricey, but it was also hot, delicious, and correct. It's a small space (not appropriate for dining in with a large group), and most orders were for take out. I did have a really hard time reading the menu because of the tiny text and strange angle for half of it, which really hurt my neck. If this is how their first days are going though, it will be great for the eastside. read more

Absolutely horrible. I'm extremely disappointed I will NEVER order from here again. I got my order off of Postmates and everything bad. The Tteokbokki was soggy, mushy and lacked any flavor except spice and had gross clumped cheese on top for $17 I got such an insanely small portion, the bulgogi fry's were extremely salty. The only decent thing was the was $22 and was still an insanely small portion. If you want actual good Korean food try the Korean house restaurant. They have better prices better portions and know how food should be made edible. 0 stars imo. read more

My husband and I came here and split some chicken strips (half in the soy garlic sauce, half in the spicy sauce), pork potstickers, and seasoned fries. Everything tasted good, but we got pretty tired of the chicken after a while and couldn't finish it. Because of the fried food and the sauce, it was also a pretty heavy meal. I've had Korean fried chicken at oh my chicken (at park place) and thought that was better - I didn't get tired of the flavor like I did here. The worst part about this restaurant for me was the lack of seating. It's so small that there were only five tables. Five! Since the restaurant faces west and the owners didn't invest in blinds, three of these tables are in direct sunlight at dinner time. If I ate here again I'd probably have to get takeout. You basically can't get a table unless you get here at or before 5 pm. The service was okay. It was relatively quick and the staff was mostly helpful, though they did seem annoyed when we changed our to-to order to a dine-in order (because a table opened up). All in all, I would eat here again, but I don't think I would get the chicken and I would plan on getting takeout. read more

We stumbled upon this place a few weeks ago and it was very enjoyable. It is a bit far for us but, we have been back twice in a very short period of time lol. I understand there is a new location opening up on 4th Ave. on February 12/14. ( l don't remember the exact date or the cross street). I am super excited because that is a location I can frequent often. I have been looking for a good Chicken Katsu, ( I have been extremely disappointed everywhere I have tried it) However, I definitely found a delicious one here. I ordered it both times I went. We also got the Bulgogi fries..... OMG, hold on to your tastebuds because this is going to blow your mind! Describing the dish would not do it justice, just go in and order it, you won't be disappointed. We also ordered this dish both times. Went to go try this place for the first time. Ordered their equivalent of the chicken tenders, seasoned fries, and potstickers. Initially when they take your order they sound thorough by double checking your order with you. However, upon receiving our food the chicken tenders were not crunchy at all and the batter was just soft. They got the size of the fries wrong so they remade it and we found a hair fried into one of them. Potstickers were good though! Would not go back food was nothing crazy or unique and most of the menu items you could find elsewhere that are better made. read more

I'm not a chicken fan, but YUM! The spicy sauce is amazing! The vegetable dumplings are excellent. You need to try it!
