I've been to Bonchon many times--as in, it is the only neighborhood restaurant's phone number that I have saved in my phone because I get pickup orders from here. Once you move past the fact that it is solidly Korean Fusion and not traditional/authentic Korean food (if you're looking for the good stuff, truck down to Annandale), I really like it here. My thoughts on a few dishes: -Chicken strips: I order these ALL the time and while they aren't quite like being back in Korea, the half and half sauce is the business! I personally think the strips have the most authentic taste over the wings and drums. For sauce, you can get spicy, soy garlic, or half and half, and I highly recommend the latter. The chicken is always hot and fresh, like all their food, and it is tender and not overly greasy. If you go to a Korean chicken place and the bottom of the bag looks like it's from a cheap delivery place, run far far away. -Bulgogi wrap: I can't say this wrap is particularly exciting but it is sizable. The beef is fine and vegetables are fresh, although on the whole it tastes like something I could get anywhere. the buttermilk ranch dressing is really good, though. -Japchae: Not gonna lie, I can't with their japchae. I found it to be bland and consist more of red peppers and spinach than the actual noodles. I'd skip the japchae. -Bull dak: I have eaten my fair share of spicy bull dak in Korea, but this stuff is HOT LIKE FIRE! As in, so hot that it's borderline unpleasant, even to someone who thrives on spicy food like me. They go a little heavy on the scallions, but I love rice cakes. Honestly, the chicken loses some of its flavor due to the overpowering of the heat. They just put out a new menu (I know because the old takeout menu has a dedicated spot on my bar) and I can't wait to try the popcorn chicken (as unKorean as that is, clearly) and BIBIMBAP...they finally have bibimbap!! I've been waiting since I moved to the area for them to bring bibimbap so that's definitely next on my list. While I usually do takeout, when I have dined in, the service was OK--although we were kind of forgotten about for a while in the corner. Anyway, despite the recent price increase that accompanied their new menu, I think this will be a neighborhood staple for a long time to come! read more

I visited bon chon recently to treat myself and had an exceptional experience. Albeit, pricey.. lol. I started off with the seasoned fries which were amazing!! & went perfectly with the small set of 8 wings , I ended up going 1/2 and 1/2 as a first timer and really liked the soy garlic wings. This paired w kimchi slaw and those fries w/ spicy Mayo were great. The only thing I'm not tooooo crazy about is the whole QR code to order and pay thing, it takes away a bit of the service touch. The bartender was so nice though and should great hospitality alongside what appears to be food runners. Drinks were refilled promptly but it would have been nice to have a like call button of some sort if I wanted something besides a refil like napkins or a box , also back to the price thing. All side sauce is .75 cents or .95 cents including ketchup. It would have been nice to have more ketchup or spicy Mayo w/ having to charge my card for $1 .. after spending $40 already , I don't get Nickle and diming of things.. S- Service was a 4, our waitress ensured we were taken care of and was prompt to deliver our orders. Good example of how customer service should be. T- Timing was a 5 the food was prepared and served in great timing, we didn't feel rushed between our appetizers and main order. A- Appearance of the venue was a 4. For the style of establishment this place looks like a great spot to watch sports and enjoy great Korean cuisine. Nothing out of the ordinary but their composition was efficient and attractive. F- Food was a 5 they were on par with legitimate Korean style dishes. The fries were delicious!, the wings are addictive and the soju was on point. Definitely worth the visit. F- Frequency ranked at a 5. We caught ourselves trying to find another Bonchon on the way back to New York. Simply cant get enough of those wings and fries, definitely worth trying AT LEAST TWICE ! My husband and I love love love Bonchon! When we found out there was one in DC, we decided that we had to go before we leave!! This location was in a nice area. Street parking only, which was kinda hard to find took us about 10mins until we found an open spot and you do have to pay for parking unless you went during a time it's free. So keep that in mind! This establishment was pretty spacious and had a lot of seats. Wasn't busy, so that was great! Our server was okays. She was kinda nice I guess. Made me feel a little weird, but I wasn't there for her. I was there for the food! My husband and I shared a small order of Spicy wings (came with 8pc and a side of radish) and a Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap. The wing, as always, were delicious! Very crispy on the outside and juice on the inside. Not really spicy at all, just a tad bit kick. The radish is really refreshing after eating the wings. The Bibimbap kinda threw me off with its appearance at first because I saw quinoa in it and that's not normal at all! And traditional bibimbap usually have a fried egg, but they had like shredded cooked omelette egg in it instead. Weird I thought at first, but it tasted really good with the sauce! First thing I noticed was that the décor was funky and colorful. Second thing I noticed was that they have a happy hour not only for drinks but also for food. Score! I would highly recommend dragging another person to go with you so you order a couple of the appetizers and share an order of the chicken. I figured the avocado ball would taste heavier like a volcano roll with a lot of sauces but it was lightly dressed. The cucumbers and the thin slices of salmon made it disappear pretty quickly. The takoyaki was something I could have eaten all day long. Fried and light little octopus-filled balls. What's not to like? If you're not a fan of tentacles and such, give this a try. It's a lot tamer and familiar in taste than you're probably imagining. I highly recommend the spicy sauce for the chicken if you like heat. It had the perfect balance of spice and flavor and captured my attention way more than the garlic sauce. Another thing I appreciated was that they didn't have 10 different sauces to confuse you. Bonchon is the classic chain - you know exactly what you are getting and it's good. We've been a couple times for their wings and it was great as they have plenty of outdoor seating for the Navy Yard area. The wings is definitely their main attraction and why we keep going back. They are so flavorful and the meat - even without the skin- is delicious. Though I would recommend having wet wipes or be prepared for sticky fingers Only disappointment is there's none of the more traditional banchan. So we end up spending money on sides - like French fries. The bull dak we recently had was nicely spicy. Just the right level of eat slowly or it's too spicy. But the cheese did not melt as much as I normally expect. It satisfied the craving. read more

Every time I have food from this Bon Chon, I am pleasantly surprised. Last night was no different when I ordered from Door Dash. My family and I ordered 40 wings with seasoned fries (STRAIGHT FROM FRY HEAVEN) with coleslaw. It was my father's first time and he has already called this morning wanting to know if we can go to the restaurant. The 40 wings was a bit much for us. It was 7 of us and we only ate half because they are so filling. During the week, they have a lunch special for $10.00 that includes seasoned fries and 8 wings...a definite must if you want to try them out before you dive in. Such tender meat and beautifully crispy skin breading on the outside. Both the spicy and the soy garlic flavors are worth getting, hence the half & half! Place was surprisingly empty for a Saturday evening. Service was fast and food was delicious. Went with a Cesar salad, wings and fries to be shared. Wings were out before the 25mins, no complaints as we were hungry. Fries were loaded with parm and the salad was fresh. The bar had spouts on the drinks and I did not like that. Been here several times before and after Nats games and while the menu has changed and the prices have increased, the food has remained consistently good. There basically two heat options - hot and not hot. Both are tasty but the hot is really hot, so be careful. It's the kind of hot that hits you quickly and stays with you after you are done eating. Make sure you have water handy oof you are not used to hot food. The prices are a little on the high side but the portions are tremendous. Chicken pieces of all types are bigger than at most places. Bon Chon is a chain so if you can find a location near you, go check it out. read more

We also got the seasoned fries which were delicious. Hence the four stars instead of three. For appetizer we got the pork buns. The pork skin was cooked so hard that I almost choked on it . This Bon Chon is cleverly positioned right by the Nats stadium and offers lunch specials for those who work nearby. For only $9, you can get deliciously crispy chicken (drumsticks, wings, or combo in soy garlic or spicy or a mix of both) with a side (rice, coleslaw, kimchi coleslaw, fries, etc.) My coworkers and I have dined in once and we've also ordered carry out a few times. I would recommend calling ahead at least an hour for your carry out order. When dining in, be prepared to take your whole hour (or more) for lunch. The service is friendly but slow and the food takes awhile (~20 mins) to come out. Conveniently right across the street from my new building, this has become a quick & frequent dinner/hh option with friends when we don't feel like walking or ubering anywhere. Bonchon is known for their triple fried chicken, and I normally just split a medium sized chicken wing combo with a friend, which comes with 5 large flat wings & 10 drum sticks for $25.99 (can barely finish). Bonchon was surprisingly open for a Friday night before a Nats game and you may want to make this your new pre or post game spot. Located just a few blocks from Nats stadium and the metro, Bonchon is close enough to the stadium, but also a safe distance from all of the activity. They have a spacious and clean indoor section with the A/C blasting and a nice outdoor patio if you want to take in the sights and sounds of fans heading to the stadium. As an added bonus, you can also hear cheering from the stadium if you happen to be running a bit late. Bonchon has tasty cocktails with a range of liquors - sake, whiskey, tequila, vodka, gin. The cocktails were refreshing and reasonably priced. Their wings are the best! We have been craving Bonchon since we visited one in New York and were thrilled to hear that DC is adding one. If you have a hankering for wings, make Bonchon your destination. They offer great portions, reasonable prices, and a fantastic assortment of sauces. Ive been eating at Bonchon for years, and for months at their location. Recently, the quality has dipped considerably. The bull dak I ordered a few weeks ago paled in comparison to bull daks I've had at other locations. Their chicken has always been their calling card, but the order I'm eating now tastes and looks like they took frozen Tyson's chicken bites and added their sauce to it (still a huge fan of the sauce. You could go here pretty much any time during the day and feel comfortable. The waiters were great. We split a medium (10 pcs) and got half spicy and half soy garlic wings. Bottom Line: You just can't go wrong with fried chicken, Korean fried chicken at that. Bonchon is fantastic because they also have options for those not into fried or into chicken at the moment. Overall, you CANNOT go wrong checking out Bonchon. And a note from Koreans (my fiancee and her family): You MUST eat fried chicken with ice cold beer...it's a requirement. Seriously. Food: So we always get their tenders vs. boneless vs. boned wings. The tenders are white meat and a nice shape to eat. The breading is amazing, very crisp, although loaded with sauce. It's never soggy! Comes with two options: Soy/garlic and Spicy. First time we visited, spicy was 3.5/5 and second time Spicy was like 4.5/5...I mean 5/5 is Carolina reapers. We have no idea why/how it was so spicy, but we had to stop. So hopefully it'll be more enjoyable for you! BIG TIP: You have an option for a side with the chicken...request the PICKLED RADISH. It's sweet and sour and blends well with the heavy fried (and spicy) chicken!!! Beef Bulgogi Tacos: Also a must try. So good with the loading of sauces. Loaded Fries: Kind of pricy at about $8 but totally worth it to split with 1-2 other people. These fries are loaded with flavor that complement the chicken beautifully. Final Thoughts: This is my favorite fried chicken spot, let alone Korean fried chicken spot with their white meat fried chicken, well flavored, amazing side dishes and accompaniments, and great beer to bring all the flavors together. My friend and I came here on a Saturday around 7:00 pm. We sat at the bar area. I give it 3 stars because the bartender did not appear to be patient at all. Also, I didn't like how the food was set up. First the bartender immediately gave us a menu and asked us did we know what we wanted. Without even giving us a chance to think, she said let me know when y'all are ready to order. She was bartending by herself, but she could have still had some type of patience. My friend had several questions about the menu, but she didn't appear as though she wanted to help him. Next is the food. They only have 2 types of wings, soy garlic and spicy. I don't like the fact that you can not get extra sauce on the side. When I order my wings, I always get extra sauce. However, you can't do that here. But the wings were good. I feel as though the soy garlic are the best! I forgot what my friend was trying to order, but she wouldn't let him substitute something out for something else. So basically if the meal comes with tomatoes, you can't take the tomatoes out or substitute it for something else. You basically have the eat the meal the way it is on the menu. The Parmesan fries is what basically gave my review the stars. Those fries were so good. The drinks were pretty decent too. So that's part of the review as well.
