I have done seven escape rooms between the two locations with my two boys and we have had great times. The staff is friendly and attentive, giving hints when needed and making it a fun experience. 3.5 stars. We booked the fishbowl escape room since we needed space for 4 people day of (decided to do an escape room on a whim). From their website, this is one of the easier rooms. Some thoughts: Pros: * the game master wasn't yelling out hints at us like some other places have done * 2 of the puzzles were fun Cons: *we had a 315pm room and they started us close to 10 minutes late *the harder puzzles in the room we did weren't hard because the puzzle itself was challenging but because finding the key to knowing what the puzzle was, was the challenge. that doesn't necessarily make it a good escape room IMO I'd come back one more time to try a harder room before making a final call read more

Returned to try our luck with another escape room, 2233: Fighting for the Future, and this one was significantly tougher. It encompasses several rooms that you have to unlock and you have to go back to some of the rooms to find clues and make progress. Getting out the first room was tough, but the second room was even harder. We had very little time left to finish the third room, and we ran out of time. Since no one was scheduled after us, we were given additional time, and we were able to solve it. I think the harder rooms should get more time because eventually we would have finished on time. But, overall it was still a lot of fun. read more

Came here as a large group for a friend's birthday and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and rush of adrenaline when we succeeded! We did the Frightful Feast and it definitely stumped us several times. They give a few hints if you ask for them and which really helped. For my boyfriend's birthday I surprised him with an escape room date! We did the Escape from Venus room, the only one that is designed for 2 people. Despite our pathetic performance (we needed multiple hints), we emerged from the room laughing and feeling closer. When it's just 2 people, you are forced to reconcile your differences in how you problem solve in order to escape the room. Given how different we are, had we done the challenge separately, we would've escaped much faster. The next time we do this, we are going to rock at this - at least that's what we tell ourselves! The only negative would be that there are not more 2-person rooms. We would like to try this again as a couple, but would rather not pay extra to reserve a room designed for a large group. read more

To celebrate my husband's birthday, we decided to have ladies vs guys. The ladies did the 1960 room and the guys did the 2233 room. It's honestly really cool that you're able to do them side-by-side, at the same time, and they even combine the storyline so that it all flows together. Needless to say, the ladies won, which made for a great birthday for my competitive husband and his friends. :) Our room guide was Ali X, and she was patient (we were a bit hyper), funny (she got our jokes), and professional (couldn't ask for more!). Our group had a really good time and we look forward to doing this again one day. The location is easy to find, the staff is all very friendly, and GODZILLA will live on in our memory. Found a last minute escape room reservation here when out with a couple friends. The room we did was rated 5 locks (out of 5) for difficulty and definitely lived up to that rating. Technically we lost, but the venue gave us an extra 5 minutes to finish up, which was really cool. I would definitely recommend coming here! read more

We visited the "Room Escape DC" in Old Town Fairfax City late one Saturday evening as part of a group of 5 - to try out the "Black Death" Escape Room. The premise is that some sort of Zombie plague decimated the population - and our job was to visit this hospital where scientists/doctors were working on a cure - before they all succumbed to the plague and died - and assemble the cure. You get one hour to try and work your way through the clues to "escape." At the one hour mark - we were informed via Walkie Talkie that our one hour had elapsed - but that they were giving us a few more minutes because we were so very close to solving the room. We then solved the room within another 5 minutes. We barely escaped - but we did it! It was a lot of fun, really hard, and forces you to think in a variety of ways: some times creatively, others times logically and critically... Had a blast! My kiddo LOVED doing one of their easier escape rooms for his 10th birthday, but this is far from a kid-only place. When we were there on a Friday night in the middle of the winter, it was HOPPING with groups of all ages and apparently booked solid through its (quite late night) closing. We're planning a couples' night out with one of the spookier rooms, followed by dinner and drinks at one of the many awesome Old Town restaurants. Walking proximity to the restaurants and park and bars is a delightful "plus" for this location. You can absolutely make a night of it! read more

UPDATE: They were kind enough to offer another experience. We opted to do another escape room at their Arlington location. The death by chocolate one was great, lots of fun and interesting puzzles to solve. We did hit another technical/mechanical issue, which is understandable given all the moving pieces that go into each room. Overall a fun weekend activity. We did Bowl Voyage and 15 minutes in we get stuck and spend over 30 minutes on one puzzle, only to find out that an important piece was missing from the room. After an employee came to fix the issue, we had to rush to finish the other puzzles in the 15 minutes we had left. read more

Great standard Escape Room. My family and I came to do the White House room and it was a great experience! This was my family's first time in an escape room and the instruction was thorough, so we were able to get a grip on what we were doing. There's also plenty of opportunities to ask for help if you're stuck, and the staff was very friendly over the intercom. The White House room wasn't the hardest room I've ever done, so it's a great option for a beginner team. In my opinion, it's also a great first try to have under your belt if your team is looking to try one of the harder/scarier rooms! read more

I was impressed by the very unique themes here! You can tell they put heart into their rooms and are looking to give people a great experience. We did two rooms on our visit because they offer 20% off if you book another room that day. - Escape from Venus II - I believe this is the only 2-player escape room in the DC area! It makes a good date and my boyfriend and I tackled it. One caveat is that it was super easy for us (we solved it in about 20 min), though we're both puzzle lovers. It may be better for a first date or for someone who's never done an escape room before. It has cute interactive aspects to it! - Joker room - This was such a cool concept - you start off chained up! I wish there were more puzzles while chained, but this was overall a great room. Good middle difficulty. Also another great date since you're tied to your love ;-) I enjoyed this place! I had my second escape room experience here today and I have to say it was a bit disappointing. I was with a large group of seven and from the beginning we were told to close our eyes because we were passing a second room to the game... so most of the folks in my group thought we had more rooms to go when we were actually in our second room (this is because we didn't quite consider the room we started in as one of the rooms). Also 15 minutes left on the clock we were told that we finished the game. However, there was one more puzzle we had to figure out and everyone was still actively trying to solve it. We even had one more hint left to ask. But because some of the games have magnetic(?) unlocking or detection system, the room gave us the key to the end of the game before we actually solved the last clue. I know there are people watching us and giving us hints a long the way, but they even thought we finished the room. When we asked about the last clue, that's when the worker explained how to solve the puzzle. In the end, we didn't feel like we finished the game because we just abruptly ended. It was VERY anticlimactic and everyone left with disappointment. My first escape room was Escape Room RVA in Richmond and that place was so much more complicated and exciting when it comes to puzzles and storyline. read more

The place was nicely decorated, the room was well designed, and the game master was very nice. However, I definitely thought the room was anticlimactic. I've done more than 5 Escape Rooms of all different difficulties in the past that were more complicated and exciting. My group of 9 participated in the Joker's Room (3/5 difficulty) which is actually only designed for 8. It wasn't a huge deal and it was really nice that they accommodated one more. The room was much easier than the ones I've been to before though. I felt like there wasn't enough puzzles at once to occupy everyone and there were moments where multiple people didn't have anything to do. I'm definitely willing to come back and try another room, maybe with higher difficulty. read more

This is the best escape room in the DMV area! Their rooms all have challenging but logical clues that lead you to the next puzzle to solve. There is a variety of locks (numbers, letters, etc) that make every obstacle engaging because it's not just the same lock over and over. The best part is that their puzzles are almost like magic. Pushing one button to a morse code symbol will magically unlock something all the way across the room. We've done every room they have and always go back when they have a new one. I really appreciate Marley's description of the sign cause.. yeah... that sign is tiny. So, scroll through the photos, look at the map - cause the first challenge is finding the place. The general idea of an escape room is that you are trying to get out of a room (or series of rooms) that are thematically designed (a creepy hospital in Dr. Panic's room). You find clues around the room that help you to unlock a series of padlocks, or other devices to reveal more clues. Filing cabinets open, locked doors become unlocked, people get scared, obstacles are overcome. Its really run. You get a 3 hints from the host (via a walkie-talkie). My only advice - don't bunch up on clues. Work as a team so only a couple people are working in any one area. Yell out things as you figure them out. Specific to this place, when you book a spot in a room, you're paying $27 for one spot. You can buy multiple at a time, but if you don't book up the entire room you could end up with random people joining up. We had a couple join us, and they were awesome and a great addition - there first time going into a room as well. I'm sure experiences will vary with this. This also means, if its just two of you, you can join up with a larger group and meet some new people. If you do have new people with you, make sure you take the time to introduce yourselves before you enter the room. The host didn't do this, it was one of my friends who took the initiative, and I think this helped the new person awkwardness. Next - the door isn't actually locked to get out. You can leave if you have to (phone calls or bathrooms). The exit when you finish is a different one, and that's locked. We made it clear we were going to be annoyed if anyone walked out the entrance, and I didn't think about it all during the game, but a few people said it made them feel better about the experience. This was my first escape room experience - so I won't speak to the quality of the clues or puzzles. They did a really great job setting up Dr. Panic's rooms with some freaky ambiance and startling sounds. At one point, the guy who had laughed after hearing someone was nervous about going into an escape room literally screamed and jumped. So scary - but not over the top. My SO who couldn't deal with Game of Thrones, was nervous but perfectly fine going through the puzzles. The room had a 25% success rate - something I wish they posted on the site. Some were 10% and the "date room" (couples escape room) was 47%. You could always call and ask - since it gives a good idea of difficulty (I guess). So, we felt pretty good solving it in 47 minutes. My only complaint was that we wasted a bit of time with a pad lock that needed to be "reset" (spun) to function. We were pretty sure we had the code right, and tried it in many different positions. Another hint was used up because we thought we used a clue (clues don't repeat) when we hadn't. The last hint ended up being used (or second to last, since the host didn't count the faulty pad lock as a hint) because we didn't think creatively. So - 1 call for lack of creative thinking - 1 for lack of organization and 1 for a room error. For a bunch of first-timers (with 2 out of 8 having done 1 before this) - I think we did well. Leaving the facility one of the girls on our team was already looking up more locations and info on the other rooms. These things could get really addicting. My last peace of advice - give yourself time afterwards to go get a drink or at least hang out for icecream. Its a really nice downtown area - and you'll be a bit amped up after the experience. We did a latish appointment on a Sunday and had a long drive... but I found myself wired when I tried to get to bed 2 hours after we were done. read more
