Bonefish has a very nice selection of seafood dishes. The complimentary bread was super warm and fresh. Both of our meals were very good, and were served in quick fashion. Dan had the cod fish fry and I had grilled shrimp and scallops. Lots of delicious side choices to select from. I do recommend the Herb Pesto sauce to go with any grilled seafood.....yum! Came here on a Friday night. Their website made it very easy to make reservations before hand. We came right before 5 so it wasn't really needed. By the time we were done though it was definitely getting busy. The service was good. The prices weren't horrible. The food was amazing. We shared a Hawaiian martini, which if it wasn't so expensive we could have went for a couple more of them! My husband got the shrimp with coconut risotto. It tasted great and there were more shrimp in there than we realized. I got the pesto salmon which was cooked perfectly. Only complaint is when we paid, it took forever for me to get my card back. Not sure what the hold up was. I did have a paper gidtcard so I'm not sure if that was the problem? We will definitely be back. read more

Bonefish grill is a great place to bring the family for dinner. The fresh bread with olive oil and pesto is amazing and light and perfect to hold you over while you wait for your meal. The ahi tuna appetizer was a light way to start the meal. Our favorite taco is the bang bang shrimp taco: crunchy, spicy, tangy all in one bite. The kids enjoyed the spicy tuna bowl and Mac and cheese as well. The portion sizes are generous. Staff is very helpful and we will for sure be coming again. Went here on a Friday night as a date night. We were seated outside and it was quite a pleasant atmosphere. Our waitress was very prompt in coming to get our drink order, although we just stuck with water. For our meals we ordered the grilled salmon superfood salad and the rhea rockfish, which was a special that night. This is one of the few times that I thought it was worthwhile to order a salad at a restaurant, and it did not disappoint. I got the dressing and the aioli on the side because I always find that there is too much dressing for my taste when it is dressed in a kitchen. This house vinaigrette was very refreshing and went great with the components of the salad. I will say that the citrus aioli seemed very unnecessary though. I don't really have any complaints with the salad other than the sweet potatoes maybe could be cooked a little more, my friend thought they were carrots at first. Also, the way the salad is layered could be a little different. It was hard to get to the ancient grains as they were on the bottom, so it might be better to do a layer of salad mix and then the grains right under the salmon. That way they would also absorb some of the salmon flavoring. The rhea rockfish was covered with a spinach and crab in some sort of sauce. It was tasty enough, and the crab was the highlight. It was our first time trying this fish and the dish was a little saltier than we like, but we would definitely recommend this fish to try. For dessert we ordered the seasonal creme brulee which was a normal creme brulee with whipped cream and a couple of raspberries on top. This is the go to dessert for us when we go out, and I will say that we were kind of disappointed with the fact that there wasn't a good crack when we hit it with a spoon. The sugaring on the top could have used a few seconds more under the torch. It was an okay creme brulee, but I don't see any need to order it again. read more

Stopped in recently on a weekday for lunch. at first we weren't sure they were open as the parking lot was completely empty but yes they are open at around 11 during the week for lunch. I enjoyed fish sandwich sliders (bar appetizer) and the clam and corn chowder. My wife had the bang bang shrimp tacos with coleslaw. (Please note that the restaurant may or may not be able to accommodate ordering from the bar menu in the dining room!) They were very accommodating to change the side of fries to any of the other sides. My wife had the coleslaw and was very pleased by the many fresh vegetables and original taste of their coleslaw. Both lunches were great! We were both very happy with the warm bread with herb oil, too. I would not recommend Bone Fish if your time for lunch is limited. I chose the Thermidor Gnocchi and M. chose the Kung Pao Monkfish. Hint: This special is a GREAT DEAL! The Bang Bang Shrimp is a crowd favorite for a reason. It's piled HIGH with a generous amount of shrimp decked in an orange sauce with only the slightest kick (yes, it's perfectly fine for that Midwestern palate). Served over a bed of shredded iceberg lettuce, it's more than enough for a two-person app, and honestly, would be the perfect amount for 4. The Thermidor Gnocchi was SO. EFFING. GOOD. Chunks of tender, sweet lobster and shrimp were smothered in buttery cream-sauced goodness, surrounded by potato gnocchi and veggies that were done just right. It had a lot of flavor and I wouldn't hesitate to order it again (or suggest it to anyone who may be having a hard time choosing something on the menu). M. ordered the Kung Pao Monkfish. It wasn't very spicy, but I know that's not uncommon in this region. I think he was disappointed it didn't have any kick, but he liked it just the same. Honestly, if you're coming to Bonefish, get something a little more adventurous than monkfish. Try the swordfish - their swordfish is insanely tasty. You will never find yourself needing dessert here. There's simply no room left in one's stomach with the size of the portions. Bathrooms are clean, parking is ample. FTW if you sign up for their email and join their rewards program, they have a lot of good deals, plus their happy hour is legit. After I attended a yelp event here, I took my parents to try the dishes as well because they were quite good and reasonably priced (especially with the deals they have). Food did not disappoint - the classic bang bang shrimp is always a winner. We also got the seasonal dishes such as the swordfish and ravioli which was also stellar. The Bang bang shrimp is their "must have" item. I remember it tasting pretty good when I first had it in Florida years ago. So I finally visited the one in Madison and I didn't feel the same. Could be at first I had zero expectation because I didn't know what it was. And the second time, not only was it at a different location but also I had experienced it and expectation. I considered just okay mainly cause of the excess sauce and the use of a bed of lettuce to make the dish look looked there were more shrimp than there actually were. We also got calamari. A little over cooked, breading wasn't to bad, a little thicker than I prefer and they also mixed in peppers with it. But the same thing here where they included a good amount of batter fried peppers, comprising the amount of calamari in he dish. This time I ordered a non-seafood dish, because let's be real, we're in WI. I got an 18oz bone-in ribeye steak, medium. And the rest of my group actually got a 6oz sirloin dish and a 6oz filet mignon. I gotta say the Ribeye was pretty good. Can't say the same about the filet mignon. It just had a different flavor and texture from other filet mignonette I've ever had. She actually didn't finish the filet mignon and helped herself with a cut of my ribeye. Actually I had a total if two others help me with that. That ribeye was SER.I.OUS :) [if I can rank on the ribeye alone, I would have given a 4 star]. I did have there Mule. Worst experience ever. Ordered food to go and was sent text it was ready. Pulled up and called to tell them I was there. No one came out. Finally someone comes out and says that they didn't get my order. Then changed the story to that they had found the order but did not cook it yet. They said they would get it ready right away. One hour later still no food. I go in and ask for my money back. The manager wouldn't even come out to speak to me. Then everyone disappeared into the back. After about 10 minutes they told me they had credited my card back. No one was sincere or cared. I understand mistakes happen but own up to them. I have not ever had a fish entree that is better than this one to date. The black cod/butter fish is just that silky smooth fish that melts in your mouth. Where ever I go and I see black cod I will always order it no matter what. We went to bone fish for the wife's birthday with the cravings calling for seafood we decided this was the place. We ordered an appetizer of the imperial dip. Pretty great dip kinda tasted like a seafood spinach dip it was devoured. Our entrees came and I'll again rave about the butterfish it was absolutely best fish I've ordered. Impressed by the awareness of the staff, when the host was getting tied up with people looking to buy gift cards, the servers stepped up and getting a the growing line of patrons looming to grab a meal. I ordered the Bang Bang Shrimp tacos ($10.90) and was underwhelmed by the lack of flavor - the breading just needed more seasoning. Adding some sriracha sauce helped make the dish more memorable. I'm not sure that grilling the tortilla was a good idea, it made it far too dry and chewy. While I enjoyed the vinaigrette in moderation, I felt the fresh greens were overdressed. The venue is clean and well-maintained. At 50% capacity, the noise level made it difficult to speak at conversational tones. In the summer months, there is outdoor seating, but the view of the West Towne parking lot is leaves a lot to be desired. read more

I've spent my birthday here for the past few years and me and my family enjoy it. The food is good, if not a little expensive, and there's a good variety. The staff are friendly and if your server hasn't been by in a while, another staff member will check on you, and the manager is frequently on the floor. The low lights and music make for a good atmosphere for the fun gathering. I have had an issue in the past where they were so backed up they couldn't seat our reservation on time, which was a bit annoying, but I could tell they were apologetic and did their best to make us comfortable while we waited. Once we met everyone and were seated we ordered the bang bang shrimp for an appetizer. This was very good, it was creamy and spicy. If you are not a fan of mayo you may not like it but I am. It is deep friend shrimp that are tossed in a sweet and spicy sauce. For dinner I had the spicy tuna bowl. This came with seared ahi tuna, jasmine rice, mango salsa, shredded carrots and avocado. I really enjoyed this as it was very fresh tasting and not to heavy. Overall this place is decent for a date night or a nice dinner out. We asked if we could sit outside even though it was only 55 degrees, and they happily obliged with no fuss and even turned on the heaters just for us. The manager checked on us twice to make sure we were warm enough and our waiter treated us like we were VIPs as we were the only ones out there the entire time. This was only our third time eating out since March due to Covid, two of those have been with Bonefish because we feel so safe. I was first of all, impressed by the exemplary service my sister, mom, and I received coming here on a Saturday evening. The waitress was very friendly and the food was served exactly as ordered. I asked for coffee, and was it was brought over in a timely manner, however was on the cold side, as go which she stated she would make a new pot and it arrived hot and fresh the second time around. We were also given complimentary bread, served with an olive oil and garlic tasting blend on the side. I ordered a rainbow trout, with lemon butter sauce, along with their Asian sauce. The two sides I chose were their garlic mashed potatoes and the seasonal vegetable, which was green beans. Mom ordered the Baja fish tacos, and it came with seasoned crispy French fries, that she said were delicious. My sister ordered the lobster and shrimp gnocchi dish. I was especially impressed that the kitchen manager, Drew made an extra effort in showing hospitality by thanking us personally in deciding to choose Bonefish Grill, and offered a dessert on the house! I chose the macadamia nut brownie, with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream on the side. I knew this was a favorite of mine, from our Yelp! event, where I was able to sample this beforehand and was impressed. My husband and I decided to try out Bonefish Grill for date night. I am not a huge seafood fan but I love a good filet mignon which I noticed they had on the menu. We called ahead to get our name on the list which ended up being a fantastic idea as there was a 45 minute wait by the time we got there for anyone who hadn't called in. We waited about 15 minutes for our table (which was in the bar area but was totally fine). We had a lovely waitress which I wished I had gotten her name but I didn't. She was very soft spoken and truly made us feel like we were her one and only table (which I am sure we weren't as they were very busy but she never made us feel rushed). I ordered the filet mignon with mashed potatoes and broccoli and my husband had the "Catch of the Day" which was sea scallops. Our food came relatively quickly and I was very relieved that the "garlic" mashed potatoes are really not very garlicky. They are very comparable to Longhorn's mashed potatoes. My filet mignon, on the other hand, was not the greatest. It had tough lines of fat in it and was chewy. It was by far the toughest filet mignon I have ever had (and I've had quite a few). My husband loved his sea scallops though and the bread with oil and herbs they give out is great. I had the blueberry lemon drop as a night cap and it was divine. Super yummy. Overall it was a fine evening. My steak was disappointing but I am hoping it was just a bad cut and not their norm. I look forward to giving them another try. read more

Walking in, Bonefish feels unlike the mid-price range chain (Bloomin' Brands) you've come to expect from other area competitors. The decor is understated, simple, and elegant, for example the one steel wall art on the accent wall instead of showing seafood motifs in your face. The really don't get enough credit for this. Though the plastic salt and pepper grinders on the table was off-putting, and did not mesh with the overall atmosphere. We ordered the 6 shrimp stuffed with crab on a bed of sauteed spinach from the specials menu, a cup of the corn and crab chowder, fish & chips, and an ice tea, all for $40.12 before tip. Our waiter was changing shifts and we ended up with another waitstaff instead of the original one that sat us, I'm not sure if it was due to this shift lapse, but we had to remind another waiter for our bread. The bread comes with a dish of pesto oil for dipping, instead of dry seasoning, this was a deliciously fresh basil pesto with finely diced kalamata olives. The bread is tantalizingly crusty, the crust is almost glowing, with an extremely airy and soft interior. The soup was brought out the same time as the bread. By most restaurant standards, the portion could have very well been considered a 'bowl'. It was really generous. The name is not what you'd expect, it's corn chowder yes, but the lump crab meat is sprinkled on top. At first it may seem unappetizing to see such white meat on top of your soup, but it was delectable! Very Santa-Fe style, thick with sweet corn and red peppers, the luscious crab meat worked better spooned with the soup, rather than mixed in. Our dishes arrived soon after, the shrimp dish was amazing! Each jumbo shrimp was cooked perfectly, tail on, succulent and still almost translucent, it didn't have a hint of fishiness or rubbery texture. The stuffing was almost all crab, and I did not detect a bit of breadcrumbs, it had a hint of Hollandise-like sauce. The bed of spinach created the perfect compliment for each bite. The fish and chips arrived with 3 slabs of lightly battered, fluffy cod. My partner kept exclaiming that "it's SO good!". It was quite remarkable, definitely a contender to any fish fry's around the area. My dish was so excellent that this was the first time in a long time that I could recall where I didn't feel the need to reach across from me and steal my partner's food. I was perfectly content with my order and wanted to savor every bite. Service was friendly without being obtrusive, everyone seemed genuinely nice and unpretentious. The restaurant is beautiful without feeling stuffy, there were people in joggers, sweats, and then there were very nicely dressed couples. We'd definitely recommend this spot for mid-priced seafood, a romantic date, or for girl's night. read more

The Madison location was a welcome sight among chain type eateries. As a rule I steer a wide berth when seeking food and recognized icons selling factory line vittles. Bonefish is my favorite exception. Around 10 years back I first joined some friends at an interesting looking restaurant in a Chicago northern suburb, Northbrook. The town my wife grew up in and she had family and many friends that we'd visit several times a year. The first visit I recall two great items aside from great drinks. Bang Bang Shrimp, an appetizer that I've since enjoyed in varying forms to lesser appeal. Crispy lightly battered shrimp with mildly spicy dressing. To date it's still the first thing we request, along with cocktails naturally. As I think, the Tuna Sashimi was also a very nice appetizer. The other was the salmon. Sides vary. Mashed potatoes were likely what I had since I always like to indulge in the starch that delivers butter well! That was then. I'm uncertain if that place is still in operation since I haven't been there now in at least a few years. But thankfully, around the last time I did eat there, the chain moved into my region and are just a short Uber ride home for the times I have to leave my car to save my vip parking spot for the following day. Last time I ate there I had Chilean Bass. OMG! Not a budget friendly meal in my world, but well worth every one of the twenty-eight hundred or so that plate set me back that evening! That particular eve we enjoyed the nice outdoor seating, and the entire family was well pleased with each of their equally well prepared meals. Today is my wife's birthday so tonight I'd planned to take her there for dinner, but this year instead she's joining a friend of hers (who coincidentally was also the very one who first introduced us to Bonefish all those years back!) for a work paid for trip to the Bahamas for the next five or so days. Leaving me to tend to the offspring. I'm tempted to load those two little whiners to accompany me as we ourselves enjoy an order of bang bang shrimp. But in second thought, they'd much rather get ice cream for dinner from Culver's, and this dad has no major issue with a nice vitamin I and D loaded bowl of vanilla and caramel cold stuff if the moms not gonna know about it. Bonefish Grill is carrying the momentum of their grand opening quite nicely. We showed up around 6:30pm on a busy Friday night and stood at the bar for about 15 minutes before realizing the first-come-first-served bar area includes not just the bar, but the tables to the left of the divider. The entire restaurant is basically half bar area, so it's likely you'll find seats quickly if you show up with a smallish party. The restaurant seemed otherwise really well staffed, but there were just two bartenders serving all thirsty Madisonians in the building. The bar was being slammed with orders, so it took awhile to get our drinks. Incredibly, when she got to us, the bartender who took our order was friendly, warm, and genuinely interested in helping us pick out the right drinks. I didn't expect the extent of her kindness for whatever reason. Maybe she has resting nice face. If that's the case, our waiter also had resting nice face. Everyone we interacted with at Bonefish seemed to genuinely enjoy interacting with customers and care that we had a good experience. This left a really good impression. The menu is a bit pricey, especially for the things they specialize in, but the wood-fired, fresh seafood flavor is worth the setback, at least once in your life. The bang bang shrimp is supposed to be what they're most popular for, outselling all other appetizers combined, but we went with the Thai coconut shrimp because we're rebels. My first bite in, I doubted shrimp could get better than that -- definitely try it if it sounds appealing to you. P.S. When you punch in their address, Google Maps currently takes you about 5 minutes out into the country. We corrected the location but I'm not sure how long until it goes into effect.
