Went to the Atwood location to grab a pizza for takeout on a Monday night. They had a steady stream of people coming in to eat there and pick up to go orders. Apparently there is also trivia on Mondays, so that may have been part of it. We ordered the portabella lugosi specialty pizza and the spinach cheese bread, since there was a deal going on. They were super quick with the turnaround as it was maximum a 15 minute wait. Staff was very friendly and gave us extra packets if red pepper flakes and parmesan for the road. Pizza overall was tasty. The kids liked the sausage on it so much that they picked it off to eat and just left the rest of us with the mushrooms on our pizza slices. Given the lack of sausage on my slices, i added some honey and red pepper to amp the flavor. Highly recommend! The spinach cheese bread was a surprise with how much people liked it. Paired nicely with the marinara sauce and had a nice crunch to the crust with a pillowy inside. Overall good as always! read more

Crust was good but very crispy edges, which I don't mind:) Hubs got the build your pasta- cavatappi noodles, Alfredo sauce, added chicken, garlic, broccoli, mushroom, black olives and he devoured it! I've been to Glass Nickel three times, and each experience has been better than the last. The service was iffy the first time I went, but this time it was great. For an appetizer, I highly recommend the toasted ravioli. It's hot and crispy and cheesy and delicious. I've done both a build-your-own pizza and the Chicky Chicky Parm Parm pizza and they were yummy! But the Chicky Chicky Parm Parm is really amazing. It's got both Alfredo and traditional red sauce on it. Truly an exceptional combo. In terms of ambiance, Glass Nickel is a great date night spot. Shocking to see this place rated any less than 4.5 stars! The pizza is ordered from them last night was the first proper American pizza I've had since I moved to the Midwest from New Emgland. The crust is properly cooked and has its own flavor, and they follow the instructions they're given. I ordered a New Haven style pizza purely by selecting options on grubhub. I didn't even get to use my own words. They still nailed it. It's exactly like the pizza I used to eat when I was going to college in Connecticut and they didn't even know that's what I wanted. I have had a 75% success rate with my orders being correct here, but the pizza is really good, order comes out on time, and the appetizers not bad so I keep coming back. Tried a new pizza for Pi Day and tried the Chicky Chicky Parm Parm. Wanted it to be thin crust but it came out regular. Oh well, maybe next time it will be correct. Good amount of sauce and the chicken fried up nicely on the cheesy topping. I usually order The Carnivore --that is a top notch pizza. And the Mac and Cheese Pizza isn't bad either but I don't come here for that one. The mac and cheese bites I also tried were good, but not my top choice (the ravioli bites are better). I sat at the bar waiting for my pizza. I waited on a bartender who seems to be doing the work of two people. I felt sorry for her. She seemed overwhelmed. I asked for two shots and a beer and got them accordingly. The bar has interesting decor. Nickels and dime decorate the bar. It honestly feels like a dive bar. Stopped in late on a Friday evening and were seated immediately. This was our first time here and it will not be the last since it is so close to our house. Also we had a $10 off coupon which was nice. Our friendly waitress was very helpful and also explained why there was uproarious laughter from the basement (improv on the weekend which we will need to check-out). Liked that they had a Mai Tai on the menu and it was very good especially at $7 ($5 on Mondays!) There were many good choices on the menu including some tempting apps but we settled on the Boarish Karloff pizza which was very good with lots of meat. The only knock was that the crust, while thin and tasty, was not as paper thin as we like. We are still getting used to large pizzas being $23 - seems to be standard pricing in Madison - at least $4 more than we were used to back East. We will be back. read more

I've been going to the east-side Glass Nickel for years and they do not disappoint. Ambitious custom pies, a good variety of crust-types (I prefer their thick crust, myself) and they tend to err on the side of generous when it comes topping time. One of the fun things they do is add a couple of new seasoning things to their menu every couple of months that are on theme with a holiday occurring in that time. They're not always winners but it's a good opportunity to try something new that you probably would've never tried before. Pizza aside -- they've got some other good entres. When I'm not feeling pizza they make a good lasagna (better than most I've had) that holds up well over delivery. Their Stromboli is delicious, though I find their calzone a bit too heavy on the ricotta for my taste. While I don't go to a pizza place for salad, Mrs. T's standby salad is their Bac-N-Bleu. Their fried dishes are standard fare; Nothing a stand-out but better than some -- especially if you've got a picky eater who will only eat chicken strips. Apps and sides? Their cheese bread is delicious and for those trying to trick yourself into thinking you're eating healthy (occasionally guilty) so is their spinach cheese bread. The Nickel Nuggets basically breadstick nuggets covered in parmesan cheese. They're decent but the parmesan is a little one note after awhile (and I say after awhile because you get a *LOT* of them even for two people). Garlic bread? Who can say no to that? Especially for two slices for $1.50. Their fried apps are exactly what you'd expected and check the boxes if you've got a craving. It is worth noting some of these dishes do not travel well, so if you aren't eating there or picking them up and going straight home the following do get a little self-steamed when delivered: Garlic Bread (still delicious) Fries (tots hold up marginally better, FYI) Mozzarella sticks (still delicious) Fish (sometimes, anyway) Oh and one notable thing -- I have gone here easily 50 times and I have yet to try their subs so look to other reviewers' comments there. read more
